There is a July 4th sale going on at Master Z's in Waukesha, WI. They have The Pin (both Avengers and Transformers) on sale for $3349. Is this a good deal? I think it is considering a pro goes for $5799 there.

NO!!! It's worth maybe 1k. For 3500 you can get about 200 other titles that are real pinball machines not toys.

#4 5 years ago

I wouldn't take one for free to take up space in my game room. Especially an Avengers one

#5 5 years ago

Funny how this pin has gone UP in price. It was $2,499 when it debuted on Amazon. And everyone said it was too high then.

#6 5 years ago

If you buy it you will own it forever.Nobody will want to buy it from you.

#7 5 years ago

It's a fun game for $2,500 shipped free from Amazon.

But, for $1,000 more, plus sales tax, sheesh, don't buy it.

Even their Pro is $1,000 too high - I'd find a new place to shop.

Which of the 2 "The Pin" machines is rarer? Is one worth more than the other?

Hard to say, as nobody on this site actually bought one.

#10 5 years ago

Do not buy....nope nope nope. As they said for 3k you can get two GREAT sys 11's or a GREAT DMD game, not a toy

George Gomez designed "The Pin." He did Monster Bash and Lord of the Rings, correct?

Yes, and JPop designed games for Zizzle. Just because CV and TOTAN can sell for $7K doesn't make a Zizzle worth $3K.

#14 5 years ago

Matt, Master Z's is way overpriced. You know you can get almost any NIB pro for ~4.7K~ from any of our distributors.

They have nothing in stock most likely....you are buying the floor model.

#15 5 years ago

I'll be invoking the "no true Scotsman" defense at this time.

Sounds like you really want the Pin. You were fairly warned.

#17 5 years ago

A Tranformers LE just sold on Pinside for $3800. Just sayin'.

DONT BUY IT!!!

You will forever regret it. Most people wouldn't take it for free.

#20 5 years ago

No DMD? REALLY?? Wow, had to go research the Avengers and Transformers "Home" versions.

First I have seen of those and I hope the last!!

#21 5 years ago

LOL. That's goofy looking and the price for that is insane. I would much rather spend that amount of money wisely, that's a ton of money and you can buy a few nice older pins for that or certainly a REAL decently priced DMD pin.

Quoted from mattenno:

Are you just trying to justify buying this? Seems like a waste to me, really. Might as well go for the real thing and spent the extra money which shouldn't be too much more for you if you would spend this amount of money on this as it is. I am sure if you save up for it you would be much happier, you might regret this. Then again, if you REAAAAAALLY want this (think hard, and I doubt you will be able to re-sell down the road), then go for it I guess.

#22 5 years ago

I think he is just joking ...no way this is real.. Right?

Both of the "sale" prices listed on the pics have about 1k markup on them

#25 5 years ago

OP has been here 3 years, so I'm guessing this post is tongue-in-cheek.

But if not.....

Don't buy this pin at $3k..... Or even $2k

If you are looking for a pin and have a budget of $3k-$3.5k I'm SURE folks here would be thrilled to offer a number of choices that would make you MUCH happier than The Pin.

I'll start things off:
NGG. A LOT of fun for $3kish!

#26 5 years ago

This guy seems set on buying from that clown store. $5800 for a wwe pro is all you need to know about that place.

#27 5 years ago

Ironically you could buy either an avengers or transformers pro for the same price as those.

#28 5 years ago

It's an overcomplicated Zizzle you can't service easily. Not one of Stern's better ideas. Waaaaay overpriced at $2 grand, never mind what seller wants.

Quoted from mattenno:

Lion shit is rarer that dog shit, you still don't want a pile of either. Get a real game!

Very easy to service.

Glass lifts up, bottom unscrews and drops.

The pin is something for divorced moms to buy for their kids.

UPS deliverable, warranty, easy set up.

Moms are not going to buy a used pinball machine. They want warranty, they want brand new, they want UPS.

Two different markets, two different products.

#31 5 years ago

No.

Next question ...

Here is a great "The Pin" video for all you guys that don't know what you are talking about.

You can see:

All LEDs

Standard Stern commercial flippers, pops, slingshots....

The glass raised up and locked

The bottom removed and all the parts exposed.

The service modes: Lamp test, coil test, display tests......

Quoted from mattenno:

You're not listening. The pin is garbage. Don't waste another thought on it. You can buy brand new Stern Pros shipped to your door with no tax for $4500-$4800, or many lightly used Stern Pros for $3000-$4000.

#36 5 years ago

Good video. That's more than I have ever known about that item.

At $1,495 that would look pretty good.

A used one on CL went for $2200 about 2 months ago.

#39 5 years ago

It would have been slightly interesting to me if they offered a different title or theme than a watered down version of their big brother pins. We aren't the market for it thought. I just don't think it took off like they thought it would have.

If TNT throws it off the roof, will it bounce?

Not sure, but I heard it will blend.

Pin's system is the precursor to SPIKE.

#45 5 years ago

That doesn't make it worth buying.

#46 5 years ago

I went to master Z and bought them all. Cornering the market on pretend pins.

Quoted from Captain_Kirk:

Pin's system is the precursor to SPIKE.

Which probably proves Spike was developed to cut Sterns costs, not make their "real" machines better.

#48 5 years ago

I owned one! My wife surprised me with the TF Pin years ago for my birthday, knowing I loved pinball growing up. I didn't know anything about the ins and outs of pinball at the time, so it was awesome. Not too heavy either because we have a full flight of basement stairs. Easy to move in the full box. Set it up in 20 minutes or so and we were ready to go.

It was great, until drop targets malfunctioned a week later and that was it. They wouldn't reset. Not knowing anything about pinball, I called Stern (which is recommended in the owners manual BTW). They told me they'd send a tech or I could send it back. Now it was bought via Amazon for $3K with free shipping and free returns so that wasn't an issue. Real easy process.

The issue is, like for me being complete noob at the time, what happens out of warranty? You'll be paying a hell of a lot of money for service, or the service is "send it back". That's just a huge pain for "The Pin" buyers.

Anyway, for me, it was a great experience, because I joined Pinside, did research and got into 'real' pinball.

#49 5 years ago

(In a python voice) Man with many letters in your name, thanks for sharing.

I think that is/was a weak point for the pin. How do you set up a service support system for such a small volume product. I assume it would have been refined if the game sold better and experience increased. Amazon probably saved the day on that example.

I applaud Stern for attempting a home buyer alternative.

so, after reading this thread, what you people are saying is that this is great deal and I should jump on it before they're sold out? maybe buy both?
