Sitting here on a Saturday night watching a Top 100 countdown of the best Rock Anthems (Max) got me thinking....No.3 was Nirvana, Smells Like Teen Spirit (Nevermind album ).

To me, this is one the the most perfect albums I have listened to and own. Not in composition or any type of bullshit like that, but the ability to have one song after another just flow perfectly into the next. The songs, the tunes, the ability to not have me flick past a song to get to the next and able to scream along with Kirt, hell yeah.......love the album and would rank it up with my very favourite.

What say you? Agree? Have your own personal favourite?

-just for reference sake, AC/DC came in second with Long way to the Top
- 1st place was GnR with Sweet Child....

I would have to say Boston's self titled album is as close to perfect as you can get, all 8 songs were radio hits. Def Leppard's Pyromania is superb also.

#3 4 years ago

Sgt Peppers Lonely Hearts Club Band. The Dark Side of the Moon. Are 2 that should show up near the top of that list.

Below those 2 albums, Candy-O, Who's Next, & Hotel California.

Excluding any greatest hits and moving into the 80's post, I always thought The Cult's Sonic Temple and U2's Achtung Baby were both perfect albums.

#5 4 years ago

I agree on the Cult's album.
Rush: Moving Pictures.

Pearl Jam's Ten would be perfect if it weren't for Jeremy. But since that was a huge hit, I will call it perfect.

I also like the Verve's Urban Hymns.

Crystal Method's Vegas and The Prodigy's Fat of the Land are also awesome.

The Wall and Appetite for Destruction

Agree withe Pearl Jam's Ten and Nirvana's Nevermind.I would add REM's Life's Rich Pageant and Sleater Kinney's One Beat.

#8 4 years ago

Probably Ac/Dc TNT, but to be honest there are so many albums i could put into this category and a LOT that could be left out too

#9 4 years ago

The Beatles Revolver
Led Zeppelin IV
Van Halen 1 or 2
REM Reckoning
Pearl Jam 10
Coldplay X & Y
The Killers Hot Fuss

Quoted from SealClubber:

Rush: Moving Pictures.

Also Permanent Waves or 2112
Saga Worlds Apart

#11 4 years ago

Pink Floyd
Dark Side of the Moon & The Wall

#12 4 years ago

For the classics I gotta go with Rush:Moving Pictures

More recently, I'm totally loving Knife Party:Abandon Ship.

#13 4 years ago

Highway 61 Revisited
Bringing it all Back Home
Blonde on Blonde

#14 4 years ago

Have to go with either

'The Wall'

'Animals' by Pink Floyd is my personal favorite, but 'The Wall' is longer and more diverse.

Life's Road by Three Seasons [2011]

A little off the board and more contemporary, but it's worthy.

I know that it includes some "Greatest Hits" and a live album or two, but here is a feature I did for the West Virginia Broadcasting Message Board a few years ago listing my "Top Fifty Albums Of All-Time". I have been listening to music since 1963 and have been in radio as a Program Director/Music Director/On-Air Personality since 1978 and have heard more music during my life than should be allowed by law. Here is the list. I'd lay money you've never heard of #1...

Scott Ross' harpsichord recording of the complete keyboard sonatas (555 in total) of Domenico Scarlatti, in celebration of the 300th anniversary of the composer's birth. Took over a year to complete. Finished in 1985 - 34 CD.
Scott died of AIDS a few years later.

You can find some on youtube. For example

Unsure if this would be a great music for a pin. But this is great music to let your mind wander.

Quoted from Cheddar:

Alice in Chain's Dirt

Any AIC with Layne.....

One of my favorite albums to listen to from beginning to end is Queensrÿche's Operation Mindcrime. I think it's ingenious how one song flows into the next all while telling an interesting story.

#33 4 years ago

I like most of the albums mentioned. But for me:

Master of Puppets-Metallica
Appetite for Destruction-GnR
The White Album-Beatles

Lots more, but I love those.

#34 4 years ago

The GZA - Liquid Swords
Dr. Dre - The Chronic
Brian Eno & David Byrne - My life in the bush of ghosts
My Life with the Thrill Kill Kult - Hit & Run Holiday

Use your illusion I.
Only the last five or six songs; everything after November Rain.

Agree with many of above, and don't forget this one from my top 5 desert island album list:
David Bowie - Zizzgy Stardust

These also come to mind when peeking at my iPod -
KISS - Destroyer
Bob Marley - Legend
System of a Down - Toxicity
Grateful Dead - Skeletons from the Closet
Temple of the Dog

Those are also all killer and no filler.

#41 4 years ago

Boston
Kiss Alive
Pink Floyd Dark side of the moon

#42 4 years ago

The Downward Spiral
Mellon Collie
Doggystyle

Yes - Close to the Edge

...and Roundabout

#44 4 years ago

Wow, wake up and a lot of replies....

Gotta agree with GnR - Appetite and Pearl Jam - Ten. Both great albums cover to cover. The only problem I find with GnR is I need to skip to get to the next song to listen to it, rather than to skip it...lol.

Really wanted to have a Met album in there but just missed for some reason, Disposable and Orion keep it out....I actually prefer And Justice....but there albums just miss one or two songs to make it complete for me.

Toto IV
Van Halen 1984
Loverboy Get Lucky

#47 4 years ago

I think you should mention Screaming for Vengeance and Back in Black.

#48 4 years ago

I have got to go with Floyd & Dark side of the moon.... During basic training a guy smuggled in a walkman. Every few nights it was my turn to fall asleep to dark side of the moon. The flow still seems so surreal...
