I only ever hear "mode-based game" and "non-mode based game". Let's see if we can fix that, together.
Here are the other types of games I can think of:
Metallica and Jersey Jack Pirates of the Caribbean are both games mostly centered around multiballs and mini-wizard modes. I can't think of a name for this category other than "multiball into mini wizard mode-type games".
Attack from Mars and Medieval Madness are games centered around defeating the central toy multiple times to progress. I think Stern Pirates of the Caribbean also fits here. Funhouse also qualifies. If you widen the definition just a little then you could say that TNA is like the others. I don't have a name for this category either. I guess "Player vs Toy ruleset" is descriptive. But I'm hoping someone can beat it.
The ruleset for Scared Stiff is sort of like a playground or sampler platter or series of checkboxes. I think there are other games like it. I guess I might start calling these "Sampler platter games".
Can anyone come up with (better) names for these? Are there any other types of modern ruleset?
