Gorgar as a kid, arcade was in our small town bowling alley we all just called it the "BA". Just picked one up for my home game room.

Black Knight as a kid, was in a bar (the Flame Lounge) only got to play it when Dad and Mom took us in to get a burger basket. We stayed in the area with tables and got to play pinball. If Dad went to sit at the bar we were never allowed to go to the actual bar.

The one that drew me in wasn't even one I like today

T2....but once I played it, I wanted to play others, I now have a few Grails that escaped me for yrs

Cyclone to Whirlwind to Funhouse and finally T2 Plantation Bowlarama/Poolhall 1990. 16 years old and it was glorious, always better when ur skipping school and smoking hash. Damn those were good times, Damn I'm old.

Cyclone pulled me to the pinball side and away from double dragon or mat mania or whatever was the flavor of the month in videos back then. From there I was hooked. I love system 11 games. Whirlwind would be my favorite from back then.

In my teens at the Disco Kid, mid 70s, KISS and Spirit of 76, which used to always award a free game if the score ended with "800", so on the last ball we'd pick it up a few inches, drop it and tilt it there to get a free game. KISS ended up being my first pin.

When I was older, my buddy was building a house in a small town and I used to go there on weekends to help him. We'd usually break for lunch at the one-light downtown bar, and there was a T2 we used to play the crap out of. Was also the first DMD game I owned (pin #3).

Started playing pinball when I was 11. Back then Captain Fantastic started it off. The next big thrill for me was Gorgar (the first talking pinball). Then Black Knight came out and that one blew me away. I played for a couple more years Stern Galaxy comes to mind, and that was about it until 1994 (I was 28) when I bought my first pinball machine. Which one you ask? Of course, Captain Fantastic!

I don't see capt. Fantastic in your collection, do you still have it?

I cant remember which one it was-dad was a Jaycee in Mundelein, Il in the late 70's. I was 8 or 9 and he'd take me to their weekly meetings. One of the members routed machines and they had a pin set up on free play. It was like smoking a crack rock for the first time-I was hooked. Wish I could which machine EM got me hooked...i'd love to add it to my collection so I could say "this machine started the sickness"!

Can we help you narrow it down? Do you recall if it was a Gottlieb, Bally, Williams, 2" or 3" flippers, theme, cabinet colors?

There was 5 of them for me. Small town so the place only had one at a time.
Hook F-14 tomcat whirlwind D/E Simpsons and Dr Dude. I’m slowly getting them all. Good times!!

Pinball at Fairview Lanes (Rockford) was the best. My personal focus was TAF, while a friend gave pointers on ST-TNG.

I recall an over-sized pin at Electronic Experience (Machesney Park). I have no clue what it was; the ball was larger than my hands (in grade-school). Just wanted to climb up on the thing to watch the ball.

Gottlieb Pin Up and in 2nd place Gold Strike. I was a teener in the 70’s, and what a great time it was.

1973 Bally Circus believe it or not, and Odd's and Evens. I was in 3rd grade and actually really liked the artwork on both games, been hooked ever since. Saw a brand new Capt. Fantastic being unboxed back in the day and mastered that game!

Started playing as a teen in the mid 70's at laundromats and a couple other places near Purdue Univ campus in W Lafayette, IN.
We'd ride our bikes into town, ...until older and we got our drivers license and first cars.

So at first it was just e-m type machines made by:
Gottlieb (Flying Carpet, Wild Life, Hot Shot, Jack in the Box, King Pin, Pro Football, Big Indian, Magnotron), later - Spirit of '76.
Bally (El Toro, Space Time, Circus, Hi-Lo Ace, Monte Carlo, Nip-It, Twin Win), later - Bow & Arrow, Hocus Pokus, Old Chicago.
Williams (Lady Luck, Spanish Eyes, Swinger, Dealers Choice, Gulf Stream, OXO, Sky Lab, Strato-Flite, and Triple Action).
    Chicago Coin ('73 Riviera, '72 Casino, & '71 Hi-Score Pool).

    Good times!

There was always one or two that caught our eyes because of gameplay, design, or artwork.
I am curious as to what pins forever got you into this hobby.

I was already playing, but the one that just blew me away was Fireball.

It was at a bowling alley where they already had three other machines in the back, but they placed a brand new one proudly at the front entrance all by itself for all the world to see.

A local burger joint that my friends and I hung out at had Gorgar. We dumped so much money into that pin!
I always wanted to find an immaculate example to add to the collection, but most are pretty beat.

Whirlwind for me. I was at a boy scout day trip at some lake in NJ. It was a HOT day, and the "seaweed" at the bottom of the lake skeeved me out. I wasn't having it. I turned my introverted attention to the shipping-container-turned-arcade by the rec area. Inside was a Whirlwind, gumball machine, pacman, and maybe a foosball table. Anyway, I saw whirlwind and it's fan topper and thought it would be the best way to cool myself down.

I was hooked pretty much immediately, and it wasn't because the fan offered me sweet heat relief. I thought the game had just the coolest soundtrack, and all I wanted to know was "what would happen if I hit the left ramp when the big red arrow was flashing." I wasn't really a good enough player then to actually make that shot during multiball, so I didn't find out until much later in life.

Still, that allure, music, and sweet fan is what got me hooked from there on out.
