Quoted from CrashJT:

do have mylar. Maybe will do what epeabs did... Thoughts?

I would vote for removing the scoop and then laying mylar. Unfortunately, I would then wait for a ninja scoop and install it. The tough part is gonna be the wait for the protector and not playing until it arrives and you install it.

Quoted from kmad:

Who did you contact to get it?

Follow the contact instructions for tech support from Stern's website. Some experiences vary from what others have had, but all my interactions have been pretty speedy with replacement parts, if readily available, within a week or so

#3853 12 months ago
Quoted from Boslaw:

Stern is sending me a new pop ring that has a flat side so it won't get stuck on the scoop.

Same here. Just got the reply in less than a day. Happy with their support, so far.

Playing devils advocate here, but if Stern felt there would be long term damage with their alternate solution in place, don't you think they would have either halted production or issued a service bulletin to not play the game until there is a proper fix? I understand not wanting to cause further damage, but asking someone to sit on their new machine and not play it until a 3rd party solution is available seems like overkill to me and a potential legal disaster for Stern.

Quoted from swampfire:

My Premium built on March 2 had the blue rubber guard, but I’m pretty sure a Stern rep installed them in the games at the show (LAX), not at the factory.
What I’d like to know is whether any Premiums are getting wear at the upper scoop protector. Mine still looks brand new after about 500 plays, and my theory is that they switched to a better metal around the time they started making Premiums.

My LE is definitely wearing on the side scoop protector, even more than the lower one. Curious if they made them thicker on the premiums.

The lower protector is bending up very slightly on the two front corners. I've started getting inconsistent ejects from the lower scoop, and am not sure why. There are no side tabs to interfere with the ball. Usually it hits the right flipper but I do get some SDTM and even hitting the right sling every now and then.

Really annoying when you get a SDTM from the scoop during 2 ball multiball with no ball save...

Looking forward to installing the TPE protector that is currently en route.

My lower protector is bending up on the corners pretty significantly, and the side scoop is noticeably damaged as well. I'm pretty sure that our LE's (Gen. 2 scoop protectors) have the original thin metal, just with the prongs sticking out trying to prolong their life. It's not working. I have less than 100 games on mine, and hesitate to play too much before a fix is decided on. Curious (and anxious) to hear what everyone experiences with the Ninja protector.

I'm thankfully not having any of the other issues you mentioned. <fingerscrossed, knockonwood, etc.>

Looks rather good! I'd slap some mylar or fisket down on the lip of the protector and order the ninja solution. This way you can keep playing. ...and why do you want to keep playing?

Do as you wish. Just sayin' that Stern's fixes have not been exactly stellar.

Is this normal ?

The wire In Front of the metal plate while the ramp is in down position

Definitely not. Looks like the wire is getting worn down, too, fix that ASAP.

Probably just needs to be put back down under the playfield, and maybe zip-tied if it comes back up - but make sure you account for both the raised and lowered position if zip tying anything, the last thing you want is to zip tie such there isn't enough slack for the ramp to move.

Also,

My diverter keeps going up and down randomly. And then stopping always in the UP position .

And at no point do I seem to have any control over it whatsoever.

I do coil test. 8/10 times one click of menu button results on one cycle down/up of diverter. But then it gets stuck in cycle of up down up down up down. I’ve looked and manually pushed it, nothing seems to be restricting or rubbing. No idea what to do

Essentially, during gameplay
The diverter seems to only be doing two things
1) either in the UP position
2) going up and down up and down up and down

Pushing of lockbar button or flipper buttons does nothing to diverter.

#3862 12 months ago

Game has maybe two dozen games on it so far. Starting to see some deformation of the side scoop. Just dropped some mylar on like I had done on the front scoop.

Did you test your lockbar button? Does it reliably work in switch test mode?

Did you look at the coil wiring to the diverter to see if there's a loose connection either at the coil lug (tug on them lightly) or at the connector?

Looked at the wiring. To my untrained eye all seems ok. Connected. Secure

Lockbar switch test. I’m still learning…?

The lockbar button is constantly flashing red, at all times.
Every time I press it, I hear the “swish” sound.
For plunge, it flashes white for few seconds and plunges whenever pressed.

But lockbar button currently has no effect on diverter, no matter when pressed.

I have only seen it turn blue few times so far for a mode, which says “hold to activate” and it Does, it works when pressed and held.

Also I’ll mention, currently running code 0.89

Quoted from epeabs:

Probably the better solution is to remove the protector and mylar under it into the scoop opening. I wanted to play my game upon setup and didn't exactly want to do a partial topside teardown to mylar. I chose to mylar over the metal protector into the scoop opening.

Is there a trick to getting the mylar to stick to the wood inside the scoop?

#3867 12 months ago
Quoted from jpc211245:

I don't think it will stick. I believe you need to wrap it through and around the opening and attach under the playfield if you're going that route. I just did mylar up to the bevel and used clear nail polish for the interior wood to toughen it up. Worked well since the B/W days on scoops, so I expect it will be ok here, too. We'll see.

Quoted from Apollo18:

Don't just look. Feel and tug to make sure there are no intermittent connections or pinched/rubbed areas of the wiring to the coil.

Quoted from Apollo18:

Go into switch test mode on the system menu and press the lockdown bar button a number of times to see if it registers once per press. Try it fast and slow.

Get on 0.91. What are you waiting for? It's a big improvement over 0.89, and may take care of some issues.

I did the same. I used your Sally Hansen clear nail polish advice and then cleaned, waxed, and put mylar to the edge of the scoop. Holding up great so far. Thanks!

Quoted from Apollo18:

But lockbar button currently has no effect on diverter, no matter when pressed.

The diverter won’t activate from the button press, but it will change the way the ball goes when you hit a ramp. Look at the “middle” flasher domes when you press the button. Those will change. Whichever one is pulsing is the the side the ball will come back on. The divertor only moves when the ball activates the ramp switch.

Quoted from jpc211245:

You can make the piece longer and stick it to the metal of the scoop on the sides.

Quoted from CrashJT:

I put mylar over both of my metal scoop protectors at the show. It definitely can’t hurt, and the mylar held up fine for the ~450 plays it got.

#3874 12 months ago

Here are my scoops after about 185 plays I believe. The front scoop was even worse but I’ve been playing with the metal the last few days.

The thing that surprised me was when I took the scoops off they appeared to have been severed by the fork at some point.

Just get it from Marco. They're not far from you (South Carolina) so you should get it pretty quickly. Get extra, it's very handy to have around.

This is what I did just now.

I’m not sure how it’ll hold up.
But maybe you have something like this ordered from a mod or another pin etc. You could use.

I just used the vinyl pieces from my Iron Maiden ramp stone step decals.

Will see how it goooooooes lol

That might help with the bending up, but it won't protect the playfield from the front of the connector digging into the clear. When I took the front one off, there was a line of fine white powder where it had started digging into the clear. I'm glad I got it off when I did.

Essentially, during gameplay
The diverter seems to only be doing two things
1) either in the UP position
2) going up and down up and down up and down
Pushing of lockbar button or flipper buttons does nothing to diverter.

I had the exact problem. I posted it here but got no response. Here was my fix.
First of all, as someone else mentioned, the button does not actuate the diverter, it only chooses the side. The trigger for the diverter is the opto sensor on the ramps. For me I found the LED side of the opto was intermittently dimming and flashing causing the diverter to go up and down for about 10 seconds at random times. I thought maybe it was just the aim or the wiring but I trouble shot it down to the led. I took one out of my GZ and swapped them, and it worked perfectly. I emailed stern and 3 days later got a replacement under warranty. It was the sensor on the right ramp that is behind the back wall of the play field . Pull the play field as far forward as you can to access it. It did this right out of the box. It works flawless now! Hope this helps!
Best Pin Ever!

#3896 12 months ago

Problem was the Right ramp entry opto was misaligned. It is located BEHIND the PF, with a plastic cover (two easy screws to remove). In active switch test mode
Gently nudged the opto (in my case it was the side with blinking red light that needed the nudge) until the diverter stopped going crazy. Then tested the opto and everything was working perfect (broke the opto beam with my finger & diverter Responded perfectly nsync)

Hope this helps anyone else with this problem.
