Quoted from WeirPinball:

The problem is the formula for the clear changed due to environmental stuff and the softer wood. Ball vs wood - wood always looses. If you think you need to let your game cure talk to an auto painter, do they cure cars for weeks?

The wood needs to cure/dry. Not the paint. Obviously wood loses. Post something useful instead of trolling. Do you have a Rush? What your experience?

Im having an issue with the clock. Powers up but the hand doesn't move. Doesn't move in test. No tech alerts.

Did you try reseating the connectors?

Quoted from PinMonk:

Only part of the problem. Short cure times and poor catalyst choices by Stern/Mirco contribute to the problem. Bader seems to have it mostly figured out for Spooky/American (except for one run of TNA). Also, the specialists like Ron Kruzman and HEP churn out consistently good-looking, durable playfields. So it's not just a clear issue and it's also not "there's nothing to be done to fix it."

I've had hep pfs in my games, if you think they don't dimple they do. Not as bad as new pfs, but they were wpc games with older pfs. Kruzman swears his clear doesn't dimple but my auto clear guy uses the same exact product and it does dimple. He's been doing it for a living for over 20 years. I asked hep how long I should let his of cure he told me no waiting required to cure. Not sure what is going on but it isn't just stern.

That is an interesting theory, wade Krause makes his own ply to use in pfs he says the stuff available doesn't cut it, so you could be on to something

As far as my experience, look it up. Do I have a rush? Yes 2 right now

There's more to kruzman's "technique" than just what product he uses. He's got a specific curing schedule and stuff

I never said they didn't dimple. You just don't see the CRATERS you do on SOME Sterns. The fact that it's not all of them clearly points to the wood, and the user testing that was done on a LotR and a few newer PFs bore that out.

Any guesses why the front scoop and perhaps both scoops are intermittently ejecting the ball with very little force? It’s causing middle drains. It Seems to have just started and do not think it’s related to the protector. Thanks.

#3358 2 years ago

Am I the only one entertained with all the MacGyvering going on in this thread? From Duct tape, 3D printed scoops, hard as nails(lol), sending out more generic cliffy's, V3 blue blinders and mylar. Hoping Stern comes up with a real solution soon(I can't handle all the face palms).

Playfield protectors are a waste for home owners. If I had a route with a killer location that would get 10,000+ plays-I might install a pf protector-but probably not. Hard as nails will not do anything to protect your scoop and I would not put it on. Recommend putting down mylar if anything as a temporary band-aid until Stern, Cliffy or Kerry come through with a permanent solution.

Clear coats have nothing to do with dimpling. The density of the substrate or layers of plywood affect the depth of dimples. All machines dimple and eventually even out, and it really comes down to the density of the top layer of ply for severity of dimples. Games like Star Trek look like moon craters while CGC games seem to have more dense pfs and dimples are less noticeable. 5 layer vs 7, 11 layer, etc.

What I have noticed from RUSH pics is the bad planking on playfields. The ribbing effect going all the way down the pfs. Seems like Stern goes through cycles with this problem. Games like Simpsons, Spiderman, Iron Man all had really bad planking from factory. Nowadays it has been hit or miss and you play the playfield lottery every time you get a NIB. I can say this-I do think the playfields with planking hold up well and I have learned to live with it.

I had another idea to mod the center cartoon playfield art(still bothers me for some reason?). Instead of trying to find another good picture of band members what about just putting the RUSH logo sticker over the cartoon art? Three things are bothering me with RUSH-the scoop debacle(waiting for real fix), the QR reader on apron(would have to get apron cover), and the band member cartoon art in center pf(need to cover with a sticker). Meanwhile I am going to pop some popcorn and continue watching all the MacGyvering action in the RUSH thread-this is better than binging Netflix. C' Mon Stern make a Miffy already sheesh!

Does the same here. Not often, but annoying when it does. I've pulled glass and have tried to see why but can't determine.

Check under the playfield to see if any wires are interfering with the mech. It’s a long shot, but a definite possibility.

Quoted from Av8:

Wax is fine. Its a good idea.
I bought and sold over 40 pins and many NIB sterns. I joined pinside when it first started. Stern playfields are the softest. Especially when new. I saw an Stern Elvira first run that looked beat to death after a few months. Like a golf ball. Why? Its the wood they use and the short cure/dry times. Some games are better than others.

What kind of wax do you use?

Is anyone else noticing that the Right most pop bumper gets caught on the back of the scoop, so it hangs on the metal scoop back (Hangs the metal pop bumper ring in a down position) until a forceful push sends it back upward again?

I have the same problem in mine.

I'll categorize this next one as, I have no idea if this is wrong but it looks wrong

The picture is my left flipper switch. I'm not pressing the flipper in that pic. It's bent like that in its resting state. Seems to work ok but I noticed it when I was taking a pic of my outlane switches. I've never seen a switch bent like that.

I’m surprised at some of the hate here for the Insider Connect reader in the apron. I love it, just added one to my LZ and I have one on order for STH. Invariably I forget to log in before I have my best game, but I like hearing that sound when I reach a new achievement. You’ll hear it a lot when you first start playing a game, but after a few weeks of using IC, you’ll want to hear it. It’s also nice to not have to enter your initials for high scores.

Just wanted to offer a different view. I do have a kit on order to move the QR reader to the coin door, but at this point it just doesn’t bother me.

I think it is the shitty cartoon art-it sticks out to me every time. Someone slap a RUSH sticker on-so I can see what it looks like

I personally like the QR reader.
I think it’s a cool add.
I also forgot to log on during my highest score. In case you didn’t know because I found this out later.
You can still log in even if you are on ball 2 or 3 and it will change from player to your name on screen!

I love IC. I don't get it either and I always forget to log in also. I wish there was an option to stay logged in.

On the other hand, I do dislike the IC apron card on my Pro. Looking for a good quality replacement.

I know its probably been discussed in the IC thread but what am I missing ?I dont use any of my ICs on anything. It feels kind of Big Brotherish to me and like a pathway to buy upgrades. What do you gain.

I just think it’s cool to earn achievements and I like that it tracks your scores. 3 of my 5 have it installed. The only thing I don’t like is the red border on the add-on versions so I’m gonna make tweaks to those to match my machines.
Rush - looks Great
LZ - matches ok
Beatles - looks like shit

You’ll get lots of different answers, but I mostly like being able to track my own progress, even across different examples of the same game. Yeah, it’s silly and maybe pointless, but I dig it. A Stern employee also told me at the LAX show that they have some cool stuff planned (no specifics).

Oh, and competing in a tournament with IC was great! No holding up your hand to wait for a scorekeeper. I think this is going to be a killer feature for locations. It take the “selfie league” concept to the next level.

I just nailed the Super skill shot for the first time. Soft plunge to upper flipper. Inner loop then immediately hit left ramp. Gave me outlane ball save, TM and EB lit. A bunch of stuff.

How do I calibrate the clock hand? Mine is out of sync.

My experience so far with Rush Premium has been awesome. My wife and I are huge fans of the band. (We're fortunate enough to appear in the game singing "conform or be cast out" in Subdivisions, and "kindness that can kill" in Freewill.) I've owned arcade games since the mid 90's, and this is my first NIB experience. So far it's been fantastic. I think the artwork is sublime. I like and respect all eras of the band and live that Michael has tried to incorporate as much as he was able to, without it looking like some sort of hodge podge scrapbook. I love the Test For Echo touches on the Premium. I know a lot have discussed issues with the cartoonish portrait in the center of the playfield. I've read every post, and I do agree to some extent with some of the criticism,. Maybe it's because of my Red Lenses, but It harkens back to the dreaded (but beloved) kimono era. The cartoonishness, to me, adds to the campiness of both that Rush era AS WELL AS that campy era of Pinball art in general. And for this reason,
I love it! The default sound was honestly "fine" for a pinball machine, but the addition of the Pinwoofer system definitely allows you to hear a lot more. Treble of Neil's varied cymbals, bells and whatnot, as well as the intricate bass lines of Grddy's. It's not a must have, but you likely have already spent 8K to 12K, what's $370 more to make it sound fantastic (for home ). Friends who WEREN'T Rush fans say playing makes them want to listen to more Rush, which is great. I love it, because when your favorite song moments cross with the adrenaline Rush of blowing up the game and seeing all of this glorious lights, it burns that euphoria into your cortex! My wife on the other hand, isn't a huge arcade/ pin person and so is hearing the repetitive music from afar and it is making her less interested in hearing Rush. I get that too. I've had on the Far Cry ball lock since the beginning. I love it. Super cool! I haven't seen any glitches in .90. I've seen people complain that they can't see the ball locked from the player position. I'm 6'1" I can't either, but it's pretty obvious. Unless you're in the middle of another multiball, the whole game pauses for a second or two for your to enjoy the fruits of your labor! A red light appears in the window, the lightning strike video showing the concert footage baby carriage on the pier and the words "Far Cry Ball Locked" also appears. A white flashing light in the window washed out the red during the lightning! Cool effect. If you need to see it, stand on one for foot, put one leg behind and bend at the torso and you'll be able to see it sitting there. Maybe the window is more for onlookers, but that red glow means something! Trust me, it's there! When you finally lock the second ball with the side scoop flashing green, "Far Cry" is shown and both scoops eject balls simultaneously! It's badass!! The Clockwork Angels Drum Clock is also very cool. It has 12 "hour" leds and a minute hand. It's in memory of Neil Peart, which I think is cool. When not playing, it shows the actual time. When playing, it has two functions. During "Working Man" mode, it regulates the length of the mode as you use the drum bumpers to move it from 9AM to 5PM to complete your work day. It also starts The "Headlong Flight" multiball when you make it it strike midnight. I also like the ball lock behind the drop targets. If you hit the captured ball it releases, but eventually it just returns it into game play. Not exactly sure what causes the variation, but it's fun. I've added a bunch of cool mods like the Signals Dog and Fire Hydrant as well as the Presto rabbit in the hat (thanks Rocket City). Also the Roll The Bones dice (thanks WilliPinball mods) on the slingshots and two Clockwork drums on the left back two flashers. Also PinMonk's color mode light mod. Lermods ice blue trough lighting really makes my owl pop! Looking forward to a Red Barchetta, some Cliffys and a Wizard Mod Test For Echo action button magnet. Maybe a gefilter! With regard to the scoop, I have rev 2. 150 + games in, zero ball scaring, bottom scoop looks fine, slight wear on side. I would be pissed if the playfield were damaged, but mine seems fine. Would rather have an intensely fun game with one of a kind features, than a perfectly boring game delivered late. To me these are all hand built, unique and one-of-a-kind pieces of industrial art. That's part of what makes them unique and special.
I really wanted a LE, but didn't have enough clout, this being my first NIB. I'm jealous and hope you all are loving your babies! I'm very happy with the art of the Premium, Moving Pictures being my favorite album. I will be getting the Expression Lighting, probably the Side Armor and the topper.
I hope any issues are resolved quickly for everyone and that you enjoy yours as much as I love mine.

I just changed gameplay mode from normal to competition last night hoping to make gameplay a little harder.
Does anyone know what exactly is some differences?
Does it make multi balls harder to get etc?

Being Rush fans, when we heard they were filming the Time Machine tour in nearby Cleveland, we attempted to get tickets. The scalpers had them at insane prices eg $1200 each. I suggested we see them in Hershey PA which we did in the front for $200. It was about a week or less till Cleveland. We were pulling out of the lot after the show, and my wife is working feverishly on her phone. I'm like what are you doing? She says, I just bought us tickets to Cleveland. She claims the prices dropped, because the show was soon, but still won't tell me what they cost. (When I mentioned Rush was coming out with a pinball last December, she said let's use the house fund!) She's a real fan.
Anyway, on the drive to Cleveland, I probably didn't need to, but just in case, I made my final plea. It may sound stupid, but it's a lifelong dream to be in a concert video, especially Rush! So tonight, I don't care if you have a migraine, you'll sing every word to every song and pump your fist the whole time! We can't control where the cameras are, but if a camera happens to pass by, I don't want to end up on the cutting room floor because we aren't into it. Luckily, we ended up in a lot of it. Some of it is in the game. I may be in Spirit Of The Radio, but have yet to see it for myself. I first confirmed our appearance in Jack Danger's twitch live stream during Limelight Multiball. Discovery (pun intended) is here

Discovery (pun intended) is here Most of our shots are here

So cool. Thanks for sharing!

I saw them 5 times but never sat in the first 20 rows. Really glad some of those clips made it into the game.

Thank you! Glad you were able to see them. They were a one of a kind band.

Just got home from a 20 hr drive from Miami and a great 4 days on Royal Caribbean's Independence.
My wife was such a trooper, handling 3 hours of driving...
But guess what? It's MOTHERFUCKING CHRISTMAS here boys!

All these Pinwoofer accolades might finally get me to hop that fence. Mostly interested in the amp ""booster?"
Who has that installed again? I really liked what I read about it.

That might just be the coolest story of this entire thread. Aside from Ed "accidentally [yeah sure Ed]" vacationing all over the globe with Geddy lol.
Seriously... awesome story man, congrats!
