Quoted from TigerLaw:

I wonder how much in penalties has accumulated now. One thing is certain, you can't bankrupt out of bankruptcy court imposed sanctions...though the judge could modify the amount later of course.

Not only that, but as time progresses Keith's case gets stronger and builds more proof that Kevin isn't being straight up with everything. As Kevin fails to meet his court ordered obligations, he just adds more fuel to the fire.

Time is on the good guy's side this go around.

I am not a lawyer but have been around enough courts to know that one thing you don't want to do is piss off the judge or make him/her dislike you in any way.

25 days x $500 = $12,500

#12953 7 years ago

I remember sitting in traffic court a few times where the defendant said he couldn't pay the fine. If you couldn't or wouldn't pay then it was X amount of dollars or X amount of days in jail.
Back then a day in jail = $7 a day towards the fine.

What's the going rate now?

Was this in 1959? They really should consider bumping up the dollars credited per day served, taxpayers paying hundreds a day to house someone on a two-bit traffic violation seems like a pretty poor use of resources.

Even if it's 3 times that
$12,500 fines / $21 day = 595 days, or 1.6 years? He'd be adding 3 weeks of jailtime everyday he doesn't submit the paperwork at that rate. Pretty hard to find receipts he doesn't have while in jail.

It's no wonder why he didn't show up.

Or else maybe his formal tuque was at the cleaners.

Only thing better than Kevin accruing $12.5k of penalty to date would be for him to be apprehended and have to spend some time in jail at the same time he continues to owe $250 per day.

Nothing about correctional facilities makes financial sense. Unless you're a publicly traded company who runs for-profit prisons of course, but don't get me started on that.

I'm glad I don't know the current rate but I did know a guy who got sent to the county prison for inability to pay his fines (drug and DUI stuff) about a dozen years ago and I think he was getting $25 credit per day. Conversely I've heard if you're not indigent, the same county prison tacks roughly the same amount per day that you're incarcerated onto your balance of fines and costs. No idea how true that is but obviously the 'guests' aren't bearing even a fraction of the actual costs.

I saw this and thought "great, one more acronym I don't know." But Google tells me you were likely referring us to the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife. I take it you've got fresh evidence that Kevin has fled to the Pacific Northwest and is living off the land (without a fishing license)?

I like it! Your comment "was safe for work" circa 1985, but times have changed and with shifting workplace norms and standards of professional conduct, we're going to have to let you go ...

Yeah, if memory serves me correctly, I might have posted an image in the wee hours of the night, but then thought better of it. I'm not really sure. It might be on my home computer so I can size that up when I get there.

Every time a see a flurry of new posts in this thread, I think that there is an interesting update of some sort. I keep being disappointed.

That's not how it works at Casa O-din.

Quoted from goatdan:

Sort of - except that online, the majority of those protections do not apply to you. Since that's where PayPal operates, it makes sense.
I've been pretty majorly screwed by credit card companies before from online orders. Make no doubt about it - no transaction company cares about the company they are using. The credit card company actually makes money when fraud is transacted (they charge the company who had the fraud transacted against it charged a "fee" for the privilege) and they have very few tools to allow people to completely verify who they are online.
Honestly, both methods are crap for merchants. I've found that for small things, PayPal is easier to talk with and show proof than credit card companies. And we've dealt with both, and follow both of their rules quite extensively. With larger items, the credit card rules definitely do favor not-PayPal.

Any more, If someone does not have a verified paypal account with a confirmed address, I cancel transaction. I get too many fraudulent orders.
I can't verify as easily with credit cards/

If he can snap of pic of the love scene he endures (I'm imagining something like messing with Sasquatch...) he will be able to pay us back for sure.

Same. Although when the day of glory happens for this thread I'd be shocked to find less than 100 new posts when I woke up.

Personally, I'd be satisfied with video of a Sasquatch playing pinball and leaving it at that!

Whoa! More big things are happening people... I won't go into detail, but I did uncover some pretty damning info last week and was just asked to share it with the legal team. Fingers crossed for all of you.

Kevin got a role in a new pirate movie, and he got a big sign-on bonus that will be garnished to be distributed to all the buyers?

What?!!! 6 days have gone by and no comments on this thread! This is my favorite one on all of Pinside. It's like reading a detective book with ongoing episodes.

I'm just bumping in hopes someone remembers to update this thing.

Well, the US Marshals picked Kevin up and took him in to the judge.

I haven't listened to it all, but it's here if you want to listen: https://soundcloud.com/user-800669943/1bk2016-21030-20170120-111818
