I finally made it to the theatre to see Dr. Strange in IMAX 3D.

I give it 9 out of 10 popcorns and it is a must see in IMAX 3D in a theatre. There are few movies that I say "You have to see in a theatre" and Dr. Strange is now one of them. Just like Avatar the IMAX 3D experience elevated this movie to a whole other level. My wife and I were literally blown away by the special effects and trippy visual overload throughout the movie.
This movie is not like any other Marvel movie and has a deep spiritual story line that utilizes the directors full imagination.

If you have not seen this movie yet, trust me-It is a must see in IMAX 3D!

I think I will like RP1 it reminds me of Tron and another dimension of gaming, plus Steven Spielberg does not disappoint. Taking the kids to see Imax 3D on this one, I think it will be one of those movies where 3D is a must like Avatar.

Cruella was an excellent movie and the entire family enjoyed it, I recommend seeing it or streaming(8 out of 10 pops). Jungle Book was entertaining and worth seeing but did not grab me like other movies(7 out of 10 pops). I like the Rock and he is entertaining but this movie is not one I could watch over and over like Jumanji. Black Widow was entertaining and worth seeing. There were some really bad cheesy one liners but Scarlett Johansson made up for them(7 out of 10 pops). Recent movies purchased on DVD that are good-Entrapment(9 out of 10 pops), and Jack Reacher-two thumbs up(10 out of 10 pops).

Really looking forward to No Time To Die(the only movie in history to have a two year hype/wait)

*Spoiler alert*-No Time to Die

Well after over a year of delays and hype the last Bond with Daniel Craig hits the theaters. My wife and I have been chopping at the bit to see this one.
While the movie was enjoyable we left a bit disappointed. My wife left the theatre balling with tears and said "I don't like spending $30 to leave feeling like this." Let's just say it is a real tear jerker. I actually appreciate movies that have a alternate ending, a friend of mine once said-'Every movie is a love story.' Does every movie need to end with kissing and rainbows? Anyway I did like some scenes but felt the movie was a little drawn out and felt like multiple cuts piece mailed together. Definitely a memorable Bond but probably not in my top 10 Bonds and not one I could watch over and over like Casino Royale. Top 25 Bond site currently ranking it at #13. It was definitely worth seeing in a theatre and there are some fantastic actors/actresses in this one. Sad to see Daniel Craig hang it up but am looking forward to the next chosen Bond as well. I heard the guy who plays Venom as a possible candidate?

I give this one 6.5 out of 10 pops or martini's 'Bond-James Bond'

Also have a sideline conspiracy theory that they delayed this movie further because of scenes with DNA altering virus-yea perfect timing-Doh'

I saw a trailer video for 'Die Hard-A Good Day To Die Hard' and thought it would be a good movie to purchase for the collection(liked the armor vehicle chases). Wow was I wrong, what a horrible film. I am a big fan of the Die Hard franchise, but stick a fork in this one-because it is done. The first three were epic and enjoyable but this one was really bad-almost turned it off. I have not rated a movie this low yet but this one gets 1.5 pops and I do not recommend it.

Reminds me of the Taken franchise. I really enjoyed the first in the series and then they all seemed to go downhill from there. Will Ferrell was offered a crazy amount of money to do ELF 2 and he knew not to mess around with it and to preserve the original-smart move. Sometimes sequels are no bueno.

Spider-Man No Way Home:

While I am a fan of the Spiderman franchise and absolutely love my Spiderman pinball machine, Spider-Man No Way Home was good but not great. I enjoyed the special effects and camera angles(they keep getting better and better especially when web slinging through city). This movie to me felt like too much emphasis on the love story and less emphasis on crime fighting, etc. I enjoyed the rehash of characters from the past and I liked the way they tied it together but it did feel 'fake or forced' at times. I still recommend seeing this one in the theatre and I may even suggest popping for the Imax on this one. It's a love story but still worth seeing in theatres.

I give this one 7 web slings or pops
My wife gives this one a 9 for tear jerks/love story

Quoted from Friengineer:

10/10. I also love me some Spiderman Pinball!

Wow a 10/10 is really saying something-you must of shed some tears at the end

The whole Hollywood love story tied into every movie has me numb to the level of cheese factor

I could skip the last 10 minutes of love story but hey that is Hollywood and it is the formula proven to move audiences

2021 Disney Eternals:

I knew right away that this movie would be complete garbage and to wait until it streams and not to waste a penny in the theatre. All you had to say is Salma Hayec and Angelina Jolie and I lowered my head in disgust. This was a low point in the Marvel universe and I will pretend it does not exist.

I give this one a .05 pops because that is the amount of time I wasted watching it-turned off after first fight scene in five minutes. Wonder if all the cheesy toys are selling big time at Target stores? Huge fail-do not waste your time.

Quoted from John-Floyd:

Michael was barely in it. No spoilers, but what the hell did I just watch?

Diddo-WTF? It was a hot mess and the Judith Myers writing a journal entry was agonizing. Michael was in the movie for like 5 minutes total? I was really disappointed and I give it a 1 out of 10 pops. Stick a fork in it-because it is officially done. "Evil changes shape" -serious? This is not a one palm face moment-but a two palm face moment.

Let's talk about some other great movies that I purchased on DVD recently...

First is Sean Connery and Catherine Zeta Jones in the movie Entrapment. The chemistry with these two has a great presence and the suspense keeps you interested until the very end. I give this one a 8 out of 10 pops

Second is L.A. Confidential. Wow what a great film! I usually do not rate a movie a 10 but this one deserves it. The cinematography, actors/actresses and plot were all fantastic. A true Hollywood film that can compete with some of the classics. Highly recommend-10 out of 10 pops!

Quoted from SLAMT1LT:

DVD... now that's a word I haven't heard since.. oh, before you were born

Yes I have a massive DVD collection and continue to grow my collection. I think I have every 80's movie ever made

People say why have DVD's when you can just stream? I laugh at them because often times you have to pay to stream or find a platform that has the movie I want to watch. Or I could just go to my movie cabinet and grab it to watch. I do not collect Blu-Ray-waste of money and I am unable to notice the difference in video/audio.

#1509 1 year ago
Quoted from RonSS:

Um, no. Blu-Ray is much better

I am a huge Sony fan and I got suckered into the whole Blu-Ray scheme when it was launched. Movies like Avatar and any super hero action film felt more immersive with bright fluidity and improved orchestrated sounds. Now this is back in the day when TV technology was just taking hold. Fast forward to today with the 4k, 120hz, etc. and I find that the quality of Blu-Ray DVDs are not as noticeable anymore to me like they used to be. Basically technology has caught up now.

I buy my DVD's mainly from a second hand reseller chain called Second and Charles. Most DVD's cost between $4-$7. We have a super hero section, a Disney movie section, a horror collection, 007 collection, 80's collection, TV-Arrested Development, Seinfeld, Curb your Enthusiasm, 24, CSI, LOST, GOT and too many to list. I enjoy collecting DVD's and hunting for certain titles to add to the collection.

Quoted from toyotaboy:

With SO much media (theater movies, streaming service movies, massive amount of TV shows) I find that I rarely ever go back and re-watch stuff like I used to.

I must be getting old because most of the media today does not entertain me much. I find myself watching Arrested Development and Seinfeld often. The last TV series to really get my juices flowing was Mandalorian and Game of Thrones. Sometimes I will just throw in a classic like The Burbs, Fletch, Caddyshack just to buy some time. These classics never get old for me-I am stuck in the 80s and cool with it

Avatar: The Way of Water

Decided to take the whole family and kids friends to see this one in IMAX 3D. The first movie was magical in the theatre and I wanted to see if the second film would have the same affect. We were not disappointed by the visual effects with this one either and it was definitely an experience. The movie started a little slow and then it was like a match was lit when they submerged under water. The visual effects under water with the IMAX 3D is really spectacular in person(It felt like a Disney amusement ride or something). The plot was good(yes it is always a love story) but it did drag on a bit. With the previews we were at the theatre for four hours(I might as well have flown to NY for lunch). Four hours in a theatre is just too much. My son said dad I liked the movie but it was way too long(coming from a 10 year old).

Avatar is an interesting franchise to me. It is a franchise that is all about visual effects and the big screen. The first Avatar movie was magical on the big screen and so is the second movie. My problem is after I watch it in the theatre the cheese factor kicks in and I have zero desire to re-watch it on my home theatre. I can watch Indiana Jones and other franchises hundreds of times and they never get old-they are timeless. I have not been able to make the connection with the Avatar franchise other than seeing the movies on the big screen for visual stimulation. It is one of Disney's largest franchises and I honestly hope it is not made into a pinball machine(hard pass for me).

So is it worth seeing in theater?-absolutely YES. I recommend seeing this one in IMAX 3D(a must) to capture the magic of the special effects. The CGI was over the top at times and appeared choppy(like a video game) but the plot and story line carried it through. Will I buy Avatar Way of the Water on DVD when it comes out-no it will not be nearly as entertaining as seen in person in the theatre.

I give this one 9 out of 10 pops for visual effects/stimulation but I have to lower my pops to an average of 7 pops because of the overdrawn fight scenes that never seemed to end. I kept looking at my watch towards the end saying 'when will this end'. Movie was simply too long and not enjoyable to sit in a theatre for that duration. Am I glad I saw it-yes Will I ever see it again-not sure.

Who wants to go back to the past? I have very fond memories of growing up and going to Blockbuster video to rent movies. From middle school to college-many a Friday nights were devoted to the trek to Blockbuster video to rent the newest releases.

This movie brought back some great memories and is a real 'feel good' movie. My wife and I really enjoyed reminiscing. I give it a 7 out of 10 pops for nostalgia

PLANE

I really like Gerard Butler and he did a great job with this action packed suspense film. This movie is full of suspense the entire duration of the film and it was an enjoyable ride. If you enjoyed seeing SPEED in the theatre back in the day-you will also enjoy this film. I recommend NOT watching the trailer. Some trailers spoil the movie and this one is worth not being spoiled by the trailer. I also recommend a cheap matinee in digital format-no need for IMAX. Good movie that captures your attention with nail biting scenes and a nice short movie to boot. I give this one 6.79 pops.

Terminator 2 Judgement Day

Mission Impossible: Dead Reckoning; Part I

Anyone ever heard the saying-'Same old shtick'

I am a big fan of the MI franchise but Dead Reckoning felt like a repetitive adaptation of previous MI films. It felt like it was non stop action and fight scenes started to feel forced. The plot also did not feel real and the entity was a bit contrived and not very realistic. Add in the casting of previous actresses and actors and have the scene where girl dies in Toms arms-oh the saga-like beating a dead horse. My favorite MI movie by far is MI3 with the iconic Philip Seymour performance. Dead Reckoning is probably my least favorite so far in the history of the franchise. I give it a 6.5 out of 10 pops due to the repetitive nature of the film-been there done that.

To Catch a Thief

Out of all of the classics-this one really shines

Cary Grant and Grace Kelly ignite the screen and some of the cinematic footage of cruising the French Monaco Riviera are spectacular. Just like Casablanca-this classic never gets old. I give this one 8 out of 10 pops.

I also find Grace Kelly's life story interesting and the similarities of her death driving the dangerous curves in Monaco to the actual movie.

The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug

Rarely does a movie have all of the elements that tie together. A cinematic masterpiece with the great actors/actresses roles and a plot that captivates an audience the entire film(can't even take a bathroom break). Now add in the orchestrated music/sounds and it becomes spectacular! This movie is a crank it up movie for surround sound systems. Probably one of the best movies to experience a great sound system and in 4k.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Hobbit:_The_Desolation_of_Smaug

I give this one 9 out of 10 pops for the overall depth and quality of this film

One of my favorite scenes from the movie is the Dwarves river barrel escape scene...

If you are a fan of the classic Casablanca with Humphrey Bogart(10 out of 10 pops) then you may enjoy another Humphrey movie from the essential collection.

1951- The African Queen. I give this one 8 out of 10 pops for the suspense and classic plot. A memorable movie that leaves a lasting impression.
