I just watched Sin City: A Dame to Kill for. I'll give it 5 Eva Greens out of 5 for the visuals. Overall 4 popcorns out of 10.

Quoted from dmbjunky:

recast Dwight with Josh Brolin.

That's how the comic book is. Dwight has cosmetic surgery. The timeline of the comics is very confusing just like the movie.

Half pops? Come on RD!!!!!!

Quoted from dmbjunky:

Nightcrawler - 7/10 popcorns - An enjoyable look at sensationistic journalism and the ambulance chasing cameramen. Great performances and a great car chase at the end.

- Agreed Worth the watch. If you have Netflix spend a few hours on Nightcrawler - 7/10 pops

Quoted from dmbjunky:

Goosebumps - 5/10 - Despite the terrible CGI, I still had fun watching this. The Dummy was really great.

- It was fun but could have been better. Sort of like a drunken night out in Rio. 4/10pops.

Quoted from sulakd:

Just finished. Fukin awesome! 9/10 popcorns. Thanks for posting.

I just put DEATHGASM on my list.

I watched Hercules with The Rock over the weekend. 6/10 popcorns. It was entertaining to have on in the background but not a movie I would go out of my way to watch. If you need some movie-filler then Hercules if for you. The action scenes are cool, the characters are likable, the plot is predictable, & The Rock is straight diesel.

Quoted from Neal_W:

Hateful Eight was devious and fun. Kept me riveted and wanting to watch it a second time after the end. 10/10 Porncops. (I'm a sucker for any 4k film with snow.)

I don't know what porncops are but I would give Hateful Eight 9/10 popcorns.

This is a PINBALL site!

No Hawkmoon, this is Sparta!

Speaking of Sparta I recently watched 300 again. 9/10 Popcorns. The sequel is not so great. 4/10 popcorns. It's something to have on in the background.

#137 7 years ago
Quoted from mcluvin:

Edge of Tomorrow was a pleasant surprise. Think he was trying to make up for Oblivion which was not so great.

Oblivion was a solid movie, it's plot was predictable so I don't respect it as much as say Edge of Tomorrow. Edge was exceptionally good. There is a turning point in the movie where I feel bad for Tom Cruise's character. Imagine having to relive 100+ experiences where your loved ones died & you failed your mission.

Quoted from rotordave:

PSA - I just read that the NZ Metal splatter movie DEATHGASM is on Netflix in the USA ... Go watch it. It's kiwiana at its finest. One of the local pinball guys (Tim) did all the special effects for it.
Metal + chainsaws + 1000000 litres of fake blood = winner.
rd

I watched DEATHGASM last night. 7 Popcorns out of 10. Hide yo kids, hide yo wife. This movie is not for them. It's not a great movie but it's definitely worth going out of your way to watch via Netflix.

Quoted from LyonsRonnie1:

I was kind of surprised, the first movie was very good, I really liked it. The second one wasn't as good, although the action scenes were much, much better. The third movie surprisingly I thought was pretty bad

Spot on with your comments. If you watch a few fan-made theories on the Matrix, many fans believe Agent Smith is actually the "one." They are good movies to have on in the background after the first watch.

I watched There Will Be Blood for the first time over the weekend. It's a good flick but definitely a "one-watcher." You see it once & you don't need to see it again.

I'll give it 8.5 "I drink your milkshake" out of 10. I drink it up!!!!

It's worth watching just for the last 15 min or so even if you don't care for the rest of it.

Quoted from Wickerman2:

Don't think it's been mentioned: The Cabin in the Woods. It's a Joss Whedon horror film with a twist to the usual "formula".

7.5 Mermaids out of 10!

I watched the Amanda Knox Murder documentary. It wasn't as riveting as making a murderer or any of the Kurt Cobain documentaries but it was still worth a watch if you are into that sort of thing. 7/10 Popcorns.

I will say after watching a bunch of these documentaries, always ask for a lawyer. Always.

I watched the Neon Demon via Amazon Prime. You'll either hate it or love it. For me it was a one watcher 3/10 pops. It was a bit slow. I also saw The Collector via Amazon Prime & a thoroughly enjoyed it. It was meant to be a Saw prequel. If you can get passed a few plot flaws then you'll like this one. 7/10 pops.

Quoted from dmbjunky:

I watched Tomorrowland by Brad Bird with George Clooney

I agree, Tomorrowland was a movie with potential but I think the overall plot sucked. The plot was fairly basic if you removed some of the sci-fi elements. 4/10 for adults - 6/10 for kids.

I watched Spectral on Netflix. The movie is a Netflix original. The movie isn't very deep & is the kind of movie where about half way through you forget why you are watching but you spent an hour watching it so you continue. 3/10 pops.

If you're more into the supernatural and horror themes go for death note like what rotordave said but I want to add onto his point and say parasyte and hellsing:ultimate but since you are watching OPM consider watching my hero academia. If you want to watch the best time travel anime then watch steins;gate(it has a slow start but gets better trust me).

Noted. Thanks. I'll check them out.

Quoted from toyotaboy:

The founder (ray Kroc of mcdonalds). Amazing what he did to the original owners. Micheal Keaton plays the part well.

The founder was a good movie & worth the watch. Ray Kroc did some very subtle shady legal maneuvering to those McDonald bros. They were portrayed as naïve. I wonder if they were as naïve in real life. Must have been to accept a handshake deal.

Looking forward to Alien: Covenant this weekend. When a film has...
Ridley Scott
Strong female lead
Flame throwers
Aliens and Androids
and rotating beacons
It's beautiful.

I saw Alien: Covenant yesterday.

My biggest beef with Ridley Scott's Prometheus & now Covenant is that he uses science fiction devices when it suits his film's plot but completely ignores reasonable technological advances. Spoiler Alert: they still don't wear helmets or masks or anything while walking around on a strange planet. In a world where AI exists, space travel/hyper sleep exist, etc, you are telling me there are NO protocols when it comes to exploring other strange planets. Come on man!

The movie is worth a watch. Redbox or stream it. It does have more gore than other Alien movies so that's a plus.

6.5 popcorns.

9.5 popcorns. Jim Carrey is on a different mental level & maybe he's onto something. Best part is when he sent the other guy to the playboy mansion then later showed up himself. Hef's face was priceless. Awesome Documentary.

#900 6 years ago

I just watched "The Vault" with James Franco. 4/10 pops. If you are working on something and need some background noise, then this is perfect flick for you. Not scary, not original, not over the top, not for kids, bland.

Quoted from Astropin:

I think (given the budget) that "The Happening" is the worst movie ever made (again...given its budget and "star power"). The worst

Not to mention that one with the water. Uh a doosie. Signs was okay. Not a great ending. Um the aliens have the technology to travel here and cloak their ships but they don't have h2o filters? Eh... : thinking:

#929 6 years ago
Quoted from spfxted:

Didn't he also do a big budget Chinese action film or something? Also shite!
What I find is the more control he has over the movie, the worse it is.....

Avatar - The Last Airbender should have been great but thanks to M Night it has a 6% rotten tomatoes score. The village wasn't bad but it would have been better if it was his first film, not a mid-career film. M Night & JJ Abrams are on my "Do Not Pay Money For Movie" list.

Cloverfield Paradox - 2 popcorns. It's free with Netflix. It's definitely boring. Good luck - Skip if you don't like Cloverfield movies. Skip if you don't want to ruin the Cloverfield series.

I thought it was well done for a vampire flick. Worth a watch if you have Netflix.

#1023 6 years ago
Quoted from Astropin:

My review of the Titan on Netflix.
I'm going to put this as gently as I can, this movie was a total cluster fuck. It was mind-numbingly stupid almost from the get go. A sharp seven-year-old could have written a more convincing plot. I fear I've actually lost a couple of IQ points just from having watched the film. Now I love Sci-Fi movies. And if you look back most of the movies I've reviewed here I've given seven or eights. I'm not hard to please. I'll put it this way M Night Shyamalan could have made a better film out of this. Look back at my recent M Night rant if you're unsure of how I feel about him. -2 popcorn's for being hazardous to your intelligence quotient.

My friend didn't have nice things to say about it either & I regard him as of sound movie rating mind. I have a similar write up about Neflix's Mute. Just pass on it.

#1025 6 years ago
Quoted from Astropin:

For some reason Netflix is having a hard time getting their actors to act (at least in their films). Is it the directors they're using? Maybe I'm going to have to start giving directors more credit when it comes the actual acting that takes place.

My major problem with Netflix's original Sci-Fi content is story. Mute, Titan, Cloverfield Paradox, all have poor stories. They are not well written with poor character arcs, poor dialogue, etc. Heck, I'll even throw in What Happened to Monday. It's story is average or slightly above average at best. It's shameful really, especially when Netflix boasts about Black Mirror so much. They could have the market on great original Sci-Fi content.

Halloween - 8 Popcorns.

The movie pays homage to the original. Same premise too; Michael escapes & goes on a murderous rampage. It's not a good movie as there are a few too many dumb movie moments but it's really entertaining for what it is. If you like scary movies & the series, you'll enjoy this one.

Starts off really slow, but sucks you into the story of Frank Lucas. It wasn’t till towards the middle that I clicked that it was based on a real story, I’ve watched some documentaries on him and how they imported drugs in coffins from Vietnam during the war, and all the currupt cops back in the 70s.

"Whadda gunna do Frank? You gunna shoot me in front of everybody?

I’m not really a horror guy ... hit up Charlie Emery spookycharlie, he’s the horror guy. He even has a horror movie podcast!

Horror is such a wide genre too ... so many different types. How about the Rob Zombie movies? They’re also a bit “b movie” as well. Sort of movies you love ... or hate.

You are the man RD! I didn't know he had a horror movie podcast, consider it added to list.

I'll probably re-watch the 10 short film anthology of Halloween horror movies on Netflix. I forgot what it was called. Then I'm going to rent Us. I'll leave a review afterwards. Any other movies I should add pinside?

Midsommar might be too f***ed for me. I watched Hereditary and I didn't care for it.

1917

I believe most pinball people are attracted to great visuals and sounds. This film is a visual masterpiece. You cannot see one edit in the film, it's a constant flowing shot in real time. It's EZ to watch and I thinking to myself, "what's coming next" Go watch 1917 in a theater, great movie!

9 Popcorns

Best movie I have seen since Mad Max Fury Road!
10Pops for me.

Girl on the Third Floor

CM Punk buys a victorian home & works to fix it up. The house may or may not be haunted.

"The film tells the story of a deeply flawed husband who renovates an old home for himself and his wife, and the supernatural events that ensue while they live there."

Back again with a Jordan Peele double feature Get Out and Us.

Get Out - 7/10, worth the $4 via Amazon Prime. Good plot, entertaining, not a conventional horror movie but will make your skin crawl a bit.

#1351 2 years ago

I'd give US a 7 outta 10. It was a decent horror movie, entertaining, nerve wracking, kinda fucked up. It ultimately falls flat but most horror movies do. It has a unique premise, hits less hard with the social commentary, and is fun.

Worth a watch.

#1360 2 years ago

The Suicide Squad by James Gunn - Definitely a fun movie, plenty of action, a few characters to care about, full of carnage and weirdness. In my opinion DCs greatest strength is their anti-heros. We know Batman, superman, etc, etc. The movie is a nice change of pace.

Watch via HBO Max. If you don't like DC then fucking skip it. lol life's too short.

9/10 pops. Definitely worth the watch if you like DC or superhero movies like watchmen, GOTG, TDK, etc.

#1361 2 years ago
Quoted from pinmister:

Cruella was an excellent movie and the entire family enjoyed it, I recommend seeing it or streaming. Jungle Book was entertaining and worth seeing but did not grab me like other movies. I like the Rock and he is entertaining but this movie is not one I could watch over and over like Jumanji. Black Widow was entertaining and worth seeing. There were some really bad cheesy one liners but Scarlett Johansson made up for them. Recent movies purchased on DVD that are good-Entrapment, and Jack Reacher-two thumbs up.

Really looking forward to No Time To Die(the only movie in history to have a two year hype/wait

No pops.

Quoted from Spyderturbo007:

Has anyone seen Upgrade? It's pretty bad ass, but I'd recommend against watching the trailer. It just gives away too much. You're better off watching that one cold in my opinion

Candyman. 7/10 pops. If you like Jordan Peele movies: Us or Get Out or you like the original Cxndyman then this movie is for you.

It lost a few pops because of one scene at the end. The aesthetics weren't great. My buddy and I sit in the front row as we always do and during the movie some police car lights shine on the characters for effect. The light is intense and burned my fucking retinas! My buddy was worrying about seizures so he covered his eyes. Not a great effect to have in the climax of your film.

Worth a watch, however you enjoy watching films!

Gunpowder milkshake. 3/10. Has quirky moments, has action so it earned 3 points. Nebula is terribly cold in it. Can she act? Serious question. Watched via Netflix. Pass

#1405 2 years ago

Cosmic Sin via Netflix. Started out strong but was terrible. Bruce Willis is in this stinker about humanity's first contact with aliens. The only cool parts are the beginning details. The rest is a hard pass. 3/10

#1407 2 years ago

Britney vs Spears via Netflix. It's pretty fucked up what people will do to their children. Documentary is about Britney Spears and her conservatorship. Completely fucked up. Some documentaries should be required in schools. 10/10.

Americas not free until Britney is free was my favorite movement of 2021.

#1408 2 years ago

Game over man via Netflix. From the guys who brought you workaholics. Die hard knock off with dick humor. You will see a few dicks, plenty of dumb humor, etc. If you're bored and liked workaholics then check it out. Several laugh out loud moments for me but I'm a degenerate.

6/10.

I'll be reviewing a bunch of movies. I have a newborn baby boy so I'm up late, I'm done with TV shows because they get cancelled (Netflix cancelled Cowboy beebop), and I have a ton a "b" movies on my watchlist. Enjoy.

#1410 2 years ago

Kate via Netflix. 5/10 popcorns. John wick derivative but less entertaining. Had some cool ideas but ultimately is a dud. Mary Elizabeth Winstead is John Wick but she is killing the Yakuza.

Midnight Run via Netflix 7/10 pops. Bob dinero is dog the bounty hunter trying to collect a bounty on the mob's accountant. Something about 80s action/comedy movies that hit the nostalgia button. Maybe it's the payphones or the indoor smoking. Worth a watch

#1413 2 years ago
Quoted from pinmister:

Die Hard-A Good Day To Die Hard

It's definitely the worst one! They should have made this movie instead: the kids stop a terrorist take over of some business building where 1) it's a Christmas party they didn't want to go to, 2) John McClain is there and the terrorist want money and revenge on him. Fuck the whole Russian plot line.

Some movie franchises deserve the "Force Awakens" treatment where it's just a rip off of the first. It works for John Wick. Why not John McClain?

#1416 2 years ago

Underworld 8/10 pops, a must see if you like werewolves and vampires. Plenty of action and political intrigue. Also Kate Beckinsale in leather tights doesn't hurt the movie's cause. Plot: werewolves vs vampires. What more do you need?

Underworld 2: more of the same. If you liked the first one then keep watching. Less political, more action, more lore. Vampires vs werewolves vs hybrids. Takes place right after the first.

Underworld 3: vampire knights vs werewolves. Less action, more politics, more love story. Has it's moments. Takes place 1000s of years before the first.

Underworld 4: they couldn't get the actor to come back and play Michael but they did well without him. If you're watching this one you care less about plot and more about mindless action.

Overall I find the series enjoyable. The first being a must watch if you like an action movie set with vampires. Good background movies to have on. Movies 2, 3, &4 all have their moments, cool ideas - 6/10 pops

#1427 2 years ago

Killing them softly. Brad Pitt is a hitman cleaning up some dummies who rob a card game. Entertaining. 7/10 if you like mob movies, Brad Pitt, and you have 90minutes, check it out.

Oldboy - American remake. Spoke Lee directed, starring Josh Brolin, Liz Olson, Sharlto Copley.

7/10pops. The Koreans know how to make movies. Josh Brolin gets kidnapped, held captive for 20 years then release to hunt down the people who did it. Very entertaining, kinda mess up like most Korean films. Spoke Lee shot a good looking film.

Fahrenheit 451 with Michael B Jordan. A modern take on a classic tale. The future technology was scary. I could definitely see our society having an "Alexa" type permanent device in our homes. I like the story so for me the movie was a good watch.

Spider-Man No Way Home:

While I am a fan of the Spiderman franchise and absolutely love my Spiderman pinball machine, Spider-Man No Way Home was good but not great. I enjoyed the special effects and camera angles(they keep getting better and better especially when web slinging through city). This movie to me felt like too much emphasis on the love story and less emphasis on crime fighting, etc. I enjoyed the rehash of characters from the past and I liked the way they tied it together but it did feel 'fake or forced' at times. I still recommend seeing this one in the theatre and I may even suggest popping for the Imax on this one. It's a love story but still worth seeing in theatres.

I give this one 7 web slings or pops
My wife gives this one a 9 for tear jerks/love story

Spiderman No Way Home - Entertaining as hell. Good plot. Most marvel movies have weak plots and villains who mirror the main character. Not this one. Go see this one right now. What are you waiting for?

10/10. I also love me some Spiderman Pinball!!!

#1450 2 years ago
Quoted from pinmister:

Wow a 10/10 is really saying something-you must of shed some tears at the end

Gunna be a challenge to replace Daniel Craig. It was an easier sell to replace Pierce Brosnan. His movies were the 90s/2000s in a nutshell. They were campy and on brand with Bond.

How do you replace gritty James Bond? How do you replace origin story James Bond? How do you replace emotional James Bond? How do you replace Daniel Craig's James Bond?

Promising Young Woman. 8/10. Worth the watch. A Sadistic & charming revenge story. Has a few plot holes but nothing egregious for a sudo horror movie. Great social commentary about the lack of strong character in our young men. On HBO max

2021 Disney Eternals

Not sure what the point of the movie was. Lol. The movie was bad which is a shame because the characters are on the verge of interesting. The movie would have benefited from actual villains.

The Last Duel with Adam Driver, Ben Affleck, Matt Damon. 8/10 pops.

Entertaining for what it was, a bit long. Ridley Scott directs well. He is a good director when he's not obsessed with AI and robots.

Finally had time to watch Nobody yesterday. WOW! This Movie does get your attention right from the start! Lots of WTF moments that will have you wondering what's going on. And a Christopher Lloyd was great in this (even if he only had a limited roll in the movie).

I give it a 8 out of 10

I agree with your review. Nobody via HBO Max is a fun movie. If you like John wick or Bob Odenkirk you'll like Nobody.

Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2022 via Netflix. Sooooooo bad. It is the complete opposite of 2018's Halloween. It's borderline unwatchable.

If you have 90minutes to waste, Netflix, enjoy blood and want to not feel, then give it a watch.

Characters suck, plot sucks, even the chainsawing sucks. Not scary or suspenseful.

3/10 pops. Too bad too because Netflix could have had something here.

Nightmare alley....Meh

I can't decide if what I watched was good or not. The movie has all of the "movie things" to be good. Proper writing, motifs, character motivations but the problem I have is it's a Guillermo del Toro movie & it's not on brand. There's no werewolves or creatures.

The Green Knight 9/10 pops. Arthurian tale. Very avant garde. Visually well done. Plot was good & a slow burner. Plot was original compared to the trash movies Netflix is releasing these days.

$2 at the Redbox

Reviewers say you're supposed to feel uneasy as the audience member, I felt none of that.

I felt uneasy about how Sandler's character couldn't get out of his own way. The going through the motions comment really sums it up nicely. It's not a good movie by any means. Maybe worth (1) watch. Forgettable movie.

1951- The African Queen.

My great uncle, in his mid 90s didn't say too much. African Queen was on the TV & when Hepburn started to pour out the booze, my uncle spoke up.
"That bitch is pouring out all the good booze. "

I just about died laughing.

Dune 2: 10 pops outta 10.

It’s not a perfect film. It suffers from a bit of poor pacing. It was amazing. The visuals fucking amazing. The sand was sandy. The book to movie changes were good.

Well worth a few beers with the boys and a movie theater pizza! Go see this movie.

When they cut to the black and white world, you’ll get 2 minutes to get up and pee. Only two minutes.

Thanksgiving via Netflix.

7/10 pops. Worth a watch.

Solid slasher, had me guessing but the pacing of the movie was off at the end. Reminded me of a 90s slasher; a lot of movie, in the last 10 minutes reveal & end scene.

Everything everywhere all at once... been putting this off, what a wild trip. I highly recommend it.

Also can be found on Netflix now. 10/10. Incredibly well done.

it still pisses me off that the first part of Dune was in 3D (I also have the Blu Ray in 3D) and now Part 2 is not!

I didn’t realize that. I agree really dumb!

Quoted from TheBananaPeel69:

Please watch the Swedish film ‘Aniara’

A ‘cruiseship’-esque transport between Earth and Mars goes off track.

Go in blind.

The scifi is SO above its weight class.

Where did you watch it? Netfilix? Hulu? Other?
