Quoted from Methos:

We were big John Sykes fans. He formed a band after Whitesnake called Blue Murder that had a few albums that nobody heard, but they were incredible. Saw him live a few times. I still listen to his material even today. If you have not heard it, pick up the first one, simply called Blue Murder.

Still of the Night and Crying in the Rain are freaking awesome.

Yep, I’ve got the 3 Blue Murder albums. Sykes is an amazing guitarist, such a good tone.

Check out Bad Boy Live if you haven’t heard it, his solo album recorded in Japan around 2004ish. Blue Murder, Whitesnake and Lizzy songs, recorded with Tommy Aldridge, Marco Mendoza and Derek Sherinian.

Pretty sure that was his last recording, although he is supposed to have had a new solo album in the can for some time.

Zappa so underrated as a guitar player.

The "solo album' is about 3 complete songs, and lots of riffs and things just sitting around. He's not motivated to get it done, I don't know why. He was supposed to do the project with Mike Portnoy and Billy Sheehan in what ended up being the (IMO superior) Winery Dogs band; very bizarre situation..

#106 9 months ago

speaking of Winery dogs..

Hey Rob although I'm not a Dream Theater fan, you have a great tone and some nice chops.
Sounded great!

Some of my favorite heavier Blue Oyster Cult:

See You In Black

Lips In the Hills

I Am the One You Warned Me Of

Heavy Metal: The Black and Silver

Take Me Away

Hey thanks man! I've kind of fallen off the DT wagon in recent years but that song is still a killer! Great workout, so to speak

I shall not brag about my metal collection, but here's part of it!

Repped.

But in this age of downloads I'm content with storing all my music on a NAS and using Plex. I have no desire to go back to vinyl, CDs, 8-tracks or cassettes.

#113 9 months ago
Quoted from AlexSMendes:

Oh man... didn't anyone warn you that you can't talk bad things about any group or rock band and (mainly) you absolutely can't swear or say curse words in this thread? There are women and little kids reading this, for christsakes....
May that be your first strike. One more and you'll be ejected!

Guess I should have put a by it, was just a joke.

Oh, that's a relief, man! I'm not being a dick, but I get the strange feeling that a few people over here lack a good sense of humor!

He is a flake by all accounts.

I saw the original BM band with him, Carmine, and Franklin doing almost the entire debut album in Milwaukee, they followed King's X and opened for Billy Squire. Was beyond great, I can still remember him playing "Riot" and seeing the guitar slides in that song live thinking this real freakin cool.

The producer for Whitesnake 87 came out and said Sykes was really tough to work with. As others have mentioned, he seems to be a clone of Vinnie Vincent in some regards.

Another great with wasted potential.

We call them "home boys" and I was lucky enough to see them on that tour with Pantera and Exodus. Big mosh pits.

Korn - Get Up!

I, I am clearly broken and no one knows what to do
Pieces of the puzzle don't fit, so, I pound them into you
Itching is the pulse inside
Creeping out to come alive
It's just doing what it's gonna do

Times are looking grim these days
Holding on to everything
It's hard to draw the line

Shut the fnck up! Get up!

I can't wait to rip my eyes out and look at you
Peace through pain is precious especially when it's done by you
Itching is the pulse inside
Creeping out to come alive
It's just doing what it's gonna do

Times are looking grim these days
Holding on to everything
It's hard to draw the line
And I'm, I'm hiding in this empty space
Tortured by my memories of what I've left behind

Shut the fnck up! Get up!

Unfortunately I never had the privilege of catching them live!

Neither Pantera, but I lost count of how much Exodus shows I attended. One time here in Rio I got to meet and have a nice conversation with Gary Holt, Rick Hunolt and Tom Hunting... Another time Rob Dukes picked my arm, pulled me from the first row and I was "forced" to stage-dive back!

Last time I caught Exodus live was a couple of years ago in Las Vegas when they were opening for our great King Diamond on his Abigail tour and that was EPIC!

Seen the Dwarves many times in the 90's. Most brutal punk shows I think I've ever been to. The guitar player kicking people in the face at one show was a highlight.

Just D/Led their entire catalog - great band!

#135 9 months ago

Never heard of them before either but holayy foook! I like it! 70's fuzzy vibes! Reminds me of Spiritual Beggars!! A band that i can't find on vinyl dammit!

#136 9 months ago

I also see that the new Joe Satriani "What Happens Next" FLACs are on the bay.

Probably not as good as Graveyard, but you know I got to give it a listen.....

Cowboy Junkies just signed to Nuclear Blast.

#141 9 months ago
Quoted from o-din:

There were like three of us that listened to Priest back then. lol. Advantage- hanging out in a record store when we should have been in school.

Make that four of us...i was 13 in '77....learned a lot about playing guitar from "British Steel"...

Is Muse considered hard rock or should that be somewhere else.

Man, the Cults Electric album ... I think we played that more at parties in 1988 than we did Appetite for Destruction (and that was on extremely high rotation...)
