My LE should be delivered next week. I plan on spending 8 hours to JJP-itize everything with Cliffy protectors, PETG washers, and cooling fans. I should be excited but Iā€™m nervous about having to take a new machine apart and put it back together just to play it.

#12770 2 years ago

I heard from my distributor that both JJP and Stern have had a lot of employee turnover. Is that why we are seeing more issues with games? Itā€™s no longer just playfield issues but mechanical as well?

LE 1704 has been delivered. I ordered 12/16 through distributor.

Were there washers on the spots that have been pooling and chipping?

Yes. Black washers on the problem posts. I count 10 of the black washers and there are clear plastic washers under the sling posts. Havenā€™t had a chance to look at the underside of the pf yet to see if nylon nuts are there.

#12918 2 years ago
Quoted from glpinball:Just spent 6 hours over 2 days installing full cliffys and a petg washer under almost every post. Hope it works.

Got my game yesterday and we are out of town this weekend so I just said fuck it and we played a few games tonight without bulletproofing the playfield. Got to a couple songs but got booed off pretty quick. Game should be lots a fun but I hope I donā€™t regret playing the game in the factory shipped condition.

The sound quality on the this machine is extremely bad for a music pin. I've seen posts about adding pinwoofers and powered subs with alligator clips, but has anyone tried to add a bluetooth soundbar and sub?

#13053 2 years ago
Quoted from bigd1979:

I believe there is noticeable delays when using bluetooth ..that's if you can get it connected and stay connected...

Ok, I'll look into one of the other options.

#13206 2 years ago

How is the LCD screen removed? Iā€™m trying to install the Tibetan Breeze cooling fans and need to get to the power board behind it and donā€™t want to force anything.

#13208 2 years ago

Does it take some force because it isnā€™t necessarily easy?

#13210 2 years ago

Yeah I got it. Thanks.

#13456 2 years ago
Quoted from MJW:

Thanks Loyd. Got it thanks. Flippers were activating switch 18 bumper rubber.

Hey all. So I have this same issue tonight on my game. Do I need to bend these apart or whatā€™s the fix?

#13466 2 years ago
Quoted from MJW:

Yes. I just adjusted switch sensitivity by opening the gap until it registered with a ball hit and not by activating the flippers.

I gave it a few flicks with my finger and itā€™s good.

#13468 2 years ago
Quoted from deejaypee:

Those of you waiting to play your machines until youā€™ve fully protected your playfields to the best of our abilities are special peopleā€”and by that I mean youā€™re either amazing or defective. Both work.

Yeah I tā€™s hard to have it sitting around for a few days and not be playing it.

#13511 2 years ago

For anyone not happy with the sound - a Polk PSW10 powered with some alligator clips sub does a great job of improving the sound. It really balances out all the treble hitting you in the face and is easy to install. Iā€™m sure the Pinwoofer sounds better, but for an easy and quick sound upgrade I highly recommend it.

#13563 2 years ago
Quoted from PanzerFreak:

With newer build games, late June / July going forward, with the latest combination of black washers, longer posts, nuts, etc is it still necessary to remove the black washers and replace with PETG ones? We were hearing multiple reports of pooling / chipping with some April, May, and early June builds but that seems to have stopped completely with the latest build games.

I have a July build and I wouldnā€™t say the pooling is gone, itā€™s just not at the previous problem areas. Iā€™m keeping an eye on the posts and adding PETG washers when I see pooling. There are just too many posts to get them all right away.

This post and another one were my project for today. Unfortunately the other one is by the pops and under the upper play field and guitar lock and is a little too hard to get at today.

Quoted from zaphX:

My opinion (which is admittedly unpopular):
Do not stress about this. Play your game and enjoy it as it comes from the factory.
If something chips, cover it and keep enjoying your game.
Take advantage of the playfield offer if you'd like to have iron-clad peace of mind.
It is a toy designed to bring game-playing enjoyment.

Iā€™ve accepted that it is was it is. Anyone who pays off the balance of their machine and takes delivery will need to accept that it will likely happen. It is a bad clear coat formula. They need to use more of Part B.

Is it just my machine, or does anyone else have all the targets aimed directly at the fucking outlines? Frustrating.

#14630 2 years ago
Quoted from PinFever:

just like Metallica's guitar pics of death next to the ramps . All stand up targets next to ramps are designed to drain in one way or another . Try

Yeah I know. Just venting after several games of them beating me down. Trying to lock one last ball, miss the ramp and straight to the outline.

Does anyone know how this hex spacer below the guitar lock is attached to the playfield? I loosed the screw above to lift the upper playfield a little and the spacer doesnā€™t seem to sit right anymore and also spins so the screw canā€™t tighten.

#15059 2 years ago

In case it happens to anyone else - there is a screw behind the guitar lock coils that can come loose and just needs to be screwed back to the spacer. It was probably obvious to most people but new to me.

Has anyone adjusted the sling settings? We have had far too many boring-ass balls that bounce slowly from sling to sling only to mercifully drain into an outlane. Incredibly frustrating. The pin is set at 7.0 and is level left to right. Didnā€™t know if this just makes things worse.

Glad to hear Iā€™m not the only one that struggles with that song. I finally broke a million on Civil War last week.

To anyone having spotlight issues - mine havenā€™t worked for a few weeks. While installing a shooter lane protector I just decided to manually move the lights up and down and left to right. My first game the spotlights were both working again. Maybe dust or something is binding the gears after awhile?

#17602 2 years ago
Quoted from PinMonk:

The crappy stock servos are likely failing on yours. Moving them manually helped them temporarily. Just replace them with the $10-$15 EMAX ones and your problem's solved.

I ordered 4 servos from aliexpress a week ago so they will get delivered at sometime. But for shits and giggles I moved them around when I had the glass off and they started working again. Didnā€™t know if someone had an explanation for it.

I ordered art blades and got them today and there seems to be a lot of creases in them. Has anyone else had this and are the creases still visible after installing them?

#17865 2 years ago
Quoted from attitude05:

I have had it happen to art blades before. Just lay them out before you put them on and they will smooth right out once they are on the side of the machine.

Quoted from Ecw0930:

And be sure to use the wet method so you can squeegee them flat.
Creases should come right out.

Ok. Iā€™ll lay them out with some weights to flatten them out for awhile. Iā€™m not much for the wet method though. Too many things to go wrong. My last art blades I was able to just stick the top and make minor adjustments before fully adhering them.

#17868 2 years ago
Quoted from PinMonk:

Like what? Have you done it, or just heard stuff?
The wet method is LITERALLY the most forgiving way to install art blades. It's really hard to have something go wrong in the process.

Electronics and spraying water seem like a bad combo. Maybe if you have towels all over and shit it works fine. I tapped the top of the art blades to start it, moved them as necessary, and then pressed everything down when I was happy with it.

#17870 2 years ago
Quoted from PinMonk:

You don't understand the process, then

Fair enough. Thereā€™s more than one way to do it. Iā€™ll think about it for a week while I try to straighten the art blades out.

#17873 2 years ago
Quoted from PinMonk:

Of course. I'm just trying to point you towards the easy, foolproof way. You had some bad information about that process that was completely wrong and I wanted to make sure it didn't mislead anyone else who read it and took it at face value.

You should also take down the YouTube videos I watched then.

During a game tonight a ball went into the center scoop but did not eject. The machine eventually went into ball search mode and kicked it out. I shut off the game and went into test mode. The coil fires during coil tests but the switch doesnā€™t register when a ball is in the scoop during a switch test. I can manually register the switch when pushing down on it with a pencil. Do I need to remove the switch and bend it or is there something else I should be looking at?

#18999 2 years ago

Thanks. Iā€™ll give that a try - careful is my middle name. I just need to pry it up gently?

#19001 2 years ago
Quoted from zaphX:

Do you happen to have the scoop Cliffy installed? If so, there is a tab on it that eventually breaks (it happened to me recently) causing the entire protector to act like a spring and prevent the ball from hitting the switch

I do have a Cliffy scoop protector. The bends have relaxed a little it seems but that doesnā€™t seem to be the issue. I pushed in on the tab to make it tight to the underside of the playfield with a ball in the scoop and the switch still didnā€™t register.

Quoted from zaphX:

I don't understand you guys putting Slash on the AXL area of the game, blocking the lane lights and the screen.

Iā€™ll get shit on for commenting, but Iā€™m in zaphX corner. I donā€™t understand blocking the Axl lanes or skill shot area with as much stuff as you can cram in there. It just doesnā€™t look right. If you show a picture of these mods to some pinball noob and ask them to point out the aftermarket add-ones, they can probably pick out like 99% of them cuz they just seem out of place.

#20530 2 years ago
Quoted from Looking4FirstPin:

Any recommendations on fixing switch 58? It is the center scoop VUK, and it is not recognizing the ball. I have not modified that scoop to put in a Cliffy. It is stock.

I had this issue a couple of months ago where it stopped registering out of the blue. I was going to bend the switch but decided to check the wiring first. I jiggled the wires and it started working again. I havenā€™t had an issue with it since.

I pulled the glass to fix a SDTM scoop issue Iā€™ve been having and found a bolt head at the bottom of the cabinet. Any ideas where this is might be from? Looks like it just sheared off from someplace.

Iā€™ve started having issues with the guitar neck ball lock. During songs after trying and failing to get a 6 ball power chord, the guitar locks will start releasing balls. 1 or 2 may release but then the lock only moves down 1/2 or 3/4 of the way and the balls wonā€™t release. The game will keep trying to release them to no avail, and then it will start auto launching more balls or go into a ball search. During coil test mode both coils work fine and there are no errors. Iā€™ve checked the key posts and have not found this topic but I swear someone has posted something similar in the past 4-6 months. Anyone else remember something similar and what the solution was?

#23684 1 year ago
Quoted from ConstantDrain:

I had problem with the nut on the bolt loosening and have even had the whole bolt drop into the bottom of the cabinet. My problem however was that the up and down post on the R would bounce after releasing a ball. This would deform the spring. I would then replace spring. This happened twice. I ended up making more of a gap on the lock washer and tightly screwing down the nut against lock washer. So far so good.

Thanks for the response. I posted this pic 7/3/22 where my bolt snapped off somehow. I thought it may be causing this issue but that was 5 months ago and is on the left release but I am having issues on both sides.
