Today I was rummaging through (insert eBay keywords "rare vintage") family pics after a long overdue chat with my cousin and I found a pic of me in 1991 at Christmas proudly holding up Use Your Illusion 1. Is this a sign my LE may arrive in time for Christmas 2020?

Also, thanks to those who have posted info about patches, strategy, rules, and potential things to look over like the record, diverter & drumstick ramp. Looking forward to battling it out for high scores.

Quoted from jalpert:

Are there any magnets in this game?

Quoted from Skyemont:

Isn’t there one at the top of the playfield that drops the ball down to quality Axel?

Skyemont is correct. There is 1 Exposed Core Playfield Magnet located above the X in the AXL letters at the backstage area / top rollovers.

The plate says "GNR GAME TEAM EDITION" across the top (I believe), with "SLASH" directly below it.

I’m still waiting on my LE delivery but I finally took a ride up to play one today and I get there and nobody at all is even waiting to play the thing. Only because we were the first ones there and had the whole place to ourselves for a good hour!

Totally blown away, as if my expectations weren’t exceeded enough with the few photos I saw and videos I watched. No pinball machine has ever wowed me in so many ways, it’s indescribable, next level, totally blown away and I’m not even scratching the surface.

After more people showed up the wait to play it grew considerably. You can tell by the flipper rubbers how much it gets played but the playfield and posts and scoop and other key areas looked fantastic.

Thanks for the hospitality, Cointaker!

#6306 3 years ago
Quoted from Phbooms:

If the sling rubbers are a different then normal size would you happen to know the exact size i should order for the slings?

I was asked for full payment from JJP last Monday and the game arrived Friday.

Mind if I ask what day you placed your order with JJP? Really trying to get a feel for what others can expect here with timing.

The extra song talk has been mentioned a few times but I would say if there’s any chance of it happening, it would probably have to be songs they played on tour so they could use the footage for them.

I guess for starters someone could try and compile a list of what they played at tour versus what’s on the game to see what potential choices could be.

Finally got the call today, 10/9 order direct with JJP, ETA around Friday or Monday for my GNR LE!!!

#11388 2 years ago

So my game arrived at the Forward Air terminal 20 minutes from my house early this morning but they didn’t offload it till 1:30pm, they refused letting me come pick it up, and wouldn’t take a nice extra cash bribe to get a driver back in to bring it out.

Now I gotta wait till Monday to come after some of these high scores everyone is working on. A little frustrated with FA dropping the ball big time. Guess I’ll just have to spend the weekend re-reading some of the good info everyone’s putting up about scoring, rules and bulletproofing the game.

#11392 2 years ago
Quoted from Rolls-Royce:

but next week it will be an amazing weekend!

No doubt about that!!! I’m definitely excited. Not gonna let some preventative maintenance needs ruin it either, I do whatever it takes to protect and preserve any game I get anyway, aside from playfield protectors. It’s already been 8 months, now I got a little extra time to make a slot for it.

Finally in, had to go to the terminal because they’ve botched the delivery day since Friday but it’s here, looks flawless, June 2021 LE ordered direct from JJP on 10/9 around 10am.

No issues at all inside or out all around, plugged it in and playing it without doing anything at all to it. What a blast, this is how a game should be enjoyed!

May 21, 2021 playfield stamp.

It came with those black washers from the factory?

Just on the 3 posts w/ the biggest potential for problems - upper playfield and by AXL and I also noticed them by the outlanes.

#11564 2 years ago

The kit fooflighter mentions above seems to describe the way the one is built with as of June 2021. I missed the inlane posts with my previous answer, the black washers are there too.

#11637 2 years ago

So glad I got this game. What an adrenaline rush. It’s also what I always wanted a music pin to be, yet it still exceeded my expectations. 50 long, beat the crap out of it plays in, not a single issue in any of the potential problem areas. A cymbal nut came loose, and flipper fade happens but that’s it so far.

#11656 2 years ago

That rug looks awesome.

I finally pulled off a 6-ball power chord jackpot tonight, what a rush that was! So far my top score is only 45,000,000 or so, which doesn’t even equal some of the song jackpots I’ve heard and seen people lose.

100 plays logged now on this beast of a machine. Finally had to tighten up coil stop screws tonight, and made a small adjustment on the lower right flipper because it had a tendency to get hung up inside the coil at times. Smooth sailing otherwise.

#11694 2 years ago

I don’t always hit the scoop, and when I struggle the most, it’s usually when it’s time for applause jackpot. Goodbye, potential high score. It was nice to see what could have been.

This game rocks, even when it destroys me.

#11736 2 years ago
Quoted from Jimmyhonda:

So, my right orbit to left flipper shot is hitting the left sling and not going to the left flipper. I know it’s been suggested to slightly bend the left rail in. However, how do people suggest doing this?

I just loosened the nut underneath at the end of the rail closest to the left slingshot, wedged a screwdriver between it and the post right to the left of it, and held it there as I tightened the nut underneath. It worked great but I need to do it again and make it tighter next time.

#11952 2 years ago

On the Rad Cals, would Mylar flipper button wear guards be helpful? Not sure if Rad Cals wear or not. And also, would removing the Mylar if it needs to come off later hurt them? Wax Rad Cals before Mylar? Or is there a better method? Thanks.

#12117 2 years ago
Quoted from LTG:

Did you keep the coin door closed ?

I just downloaded with the door open. It verified, and then I told it to install, and also did that with the door open. No issues. It even remembered the score of the last game prior to update. I still lose the ball and big jackpots and still haven’t made it back to Desert Demolition to see how it is now.

#12125 2 years ago

When playing the newest beta release, it seemed like when it was time to collect jackpot and end the song or add a ball and continue, that it was automatically taking the jackpot and ending the song without me making that choice... Seemed to happen within about 3 seconds of the countdown starting and on about 3-4 different songs. There was a song or two where it did let it countdown from 10 to 1, and let me make the choice myself. I'd add this to the beta chat but I didn't get in yet.

#12128 2 years ago
Quoted from mozach:

Was it the applause jackpot?

Yes. Each time it was applause jackpot. But it really seemed like it started to countdown and let me make the choice, then made it for me a few seconds into the countdown. I never noticed this prior to updating to the newest beta, on 200+ games. I don't think the ball was already in the scoop either, pretty sure I hit it in there each time when it lit.

#12133 2 years ago
Quoted from mozach:

If applause JP is lit and then you hit the scoop, it definitely shouldn't countdown.

I believe I answered “Yes” to your previous question incorrectly.

I don’t think applause jackpot was actually lit - the scoop was lit because I reached a certain point in the song. And then it gave me the choice if I wanted to cash out or add a ball - that’s when it chose to cash out for me, within about 3 of the 10 seconds of the countdown.

I’m about to play a few more rounds so I’ll report back. Maybe I bumped the action button without realizing it.

EDIT - played a few more rounds, not having that alleged issue now. My bad.

#12298 2 years ago

Almost broke 80,000,000 finally!!!

Knew it was gonna be great when I got past Slash solo without losing a ball. Also did DD album mode (beta), tour multiball, and had 55,000,000+ on Paradise City I cashed in before end of song. Patch strategy and booster multiball success fueled the madness.

#12307 2 years ago
Quoted from insight75:

I'm totally with you on the score minus 1 zero....

That’s also me about 85% of the time! But I’ve shifted my patch strategy a bit to go for ones that do higher scoring for songs.

I also try to get several booster MBs running at once, and while in them, I send balls to the upper playfield and let them drop into the hole to try and get my patches building up even more during those.

Plus getting jackpots on boosters is huge. It helped a lot! I think I had 136 song level for my 55,000,000 Paradise City jackpot.

#12310 2 years ago
Quoted from tdiddy:

What are the first things I need to do to make sure my playfield doesn't begin to have issues.

Quoted from PanzerFreak:

With the latest fixes (just need to verify they are there of course, should be) I don't plan on changing anything.

Agreed. Just double check to make sure you have the latest fixes as Panzer mentioned. If they’re in place I’d leave it all alone.

My May playfield and June build date have those fixes and I don’t have any issues. Over 250 heavy plays now. I haven’t done anything to the game at all other than inspect it every once in awhile and I’ve waxed it 3x now also.

Quoted from tdiddy:

should I swap out the pinball

I haven’t swapped mine yet but after seeing your question I did inspect them yesterday and they seem fine still. Also remember the magnet so certain balls won’t work as good as others if you do swap.

Pics added, sorry I didn’t get all the wax off the black washer on upper playfield post.

#12311 2 years ago
Quoted from mozach:

What patches are you going for?

The two newest ones I went for that I think contributed to the song points the most would be Vater and Duff Skull. I also get the Gun, Bra and Panties. And Axl mike fuzzy. Also Marshall, Gibson, Fender, etc.

I avoid patches like the one that boosts Rocket Queen scoring for example, because that’s only going to help me for Rocket Queen.

#12312 2 years ago
Quoted from arzoo:

I honestly don't know how JJP can get away with this shit, just unreal.

This has not been my experience with JJP at all. Maybe it’s all in how people conduct themselves when they inquire with JJP. Or maybe they flame JJP publicly before giving them a chance.

#12315 2 years ago
Quoted from dug:

Any issues with downloading / running the new beta code? Bugs?

Not a single issue so far with any of that on my end. Enjoying it. Desert Demolition got some code for this recent Beta release and it’s fun and done well.

#12318 2 years ago
Quoted from Mattyk:

There is a post here you can try searching for that has the 3D print file.

Try this maybe

#12322 2 years ago
Quoted from arzoo:

people are having issues getting parts

Agreed, but with supply chain issues, lack of people wanting to return to work, shipping delays, and the backlog of games still needing to go to customers I think it’s reasonable to expect some parts supply delays. Sending post kits might be on hiatus so they can save remaining inventory to finish builds, for example.

#12545 2 years ago

16 games to choose from here, weekend impromptu pinball party started up, GNR got the most plays by far. It was great seeing them all battle for top score of the day. Really enjoyed seeing my wife take and hold it, she rarely played pinball till GNR arrived. Everyone took at least 5 games on it. The wow factor was achieved. Well over 300 plays now, not a flaw to be seen. Chics dig it, and looked great playing it.

#12601 2 years ago

"It's so easy" they said... Yes, perhaps, if you just want 1,000,000 point scores. I want 25,000,000+++ jackpots and song levels at 100+. So I just try to max out booster multi balls and go for scoring based patches while trying to lock all 6 balls and then start the song.

Ball 1... Got some patches, some boosters, locked a few balls, start song is lit!!! I'm not ready yet, need more boosters / patches / balls locked. Crap, there it goes down the drain. Ball 2, start song still lit, but I might as well lock a few more balls, go for more patches, and more boosters. Down the drain again. Ball 3 - okay, I think I have my song level up high enough, time to lock this last ball and start the song! Down the drain! Best I could do last night was around 30,000,000 with a 25,000,000 applause jackpot on Chinese Democracy. Far cry from my 55,000,000 Paradise City applause jackpot and 82,000,000+ score.

Love this game.

Speaking of song levels, I actually had it say MAX one time. Does anyone happen to know how high it goes over 100 till you get it to say MAX? I've had 136 recently, I think I saw over 160 song level at one point.

#12604 2 years ago
Quoted from HeyZeusss666:

Max song level is equivalent to 200

That’s what I suspected but didn’t see any mention of it anywhere. Thank you for the quick response!

#12617 2 years ago
Quoted from Eskaybee:

For the longest time I tried putting all my eggs in one basket just trying to max song level and ball locks before going into song.

Been using this same approach for the last week after hitting 80,000,000 and 82,000,000 that way, but some of that was a mix of what you’re doing when you cash out early for extra ball chances.

I just need to have the perfect ball 1 if I’m gonna try and max it all out before starting a song.

Quoted from Eskaybee:

Lately, I’ve been trying to get into songs quicker, lighting the extra ball, then cashing out.

This is what I like to try and do if I hit the scoop before I was ready to start song, especially if my song level is under 75, then I look forward to cashing out for extra ball and moving on back to more boosters and patches.

It all depends how the ball rolls, but the amount of choices to make along the way regarding risk versus reward make it seem like a completely different game every time.

Quoted from Eskaybee:

Cradled with ball in left flipper, all I needed was a hit on the slash record to light the final shot with action button, finish the mode, and start the wizard mode. Potentially 2 shots away from starting it. And………I hit the slash record, with it spinning the ball went way out of control, I had 0 tilt warning from a slap save on the previous ball, with the ball entering the center drain I went for a slap save and pulled it off, and then TILT! 150+ mil final score, HS#1.

I’ve felt similar pains so many times! But wow, that’s an incredible score even after losing bonus and ball via tilt! Congrats!!!

#12619 2 years ago
Quoted from HeyZeusss666:

It was my most epic game ever 232 mil, took over an hour. Previously, I had a 229mil game where I got a 203mil applause jackpot

Wow! Incredible! Ever think about posting your score? I had no idea I needed to aim that high based on the numbers others have posted under scores.

Quoted from Eskaybee:

150+ mil final score, HS#1.

Same goes for you, add that score! Haha!

Quoted from HeyZeusss666:

So how do you figure out what the best scoring strategy is?

Still working on that myself but it sounds like you sort of figured it out with the results of your two completely different, 200+ million point games. So I'm assuming a blend of both, and also based with some good focus and decision making on the risk / reward available, depending how the game is falling into place. I basically grab the best patches for scoring that I can while trying to stack boosters, and if I can’t get the level I want for a song and have to start it, then I try and cash out early for an extra ball and start the patches and boosters again before next song.

I also tend to try and avoid album modes and especially Slash solo cause that gets my ball almost every time - I’ve only competed that one time.

When album mode is lit, if I don’t wanna do it, I just try and lock all the balls so it has to start a song.

#12621 2 years ago
Quoted from mozach:

Hold down the action button when album mode is lit and it'll unlight.

THANK YOU! I thought I remembered seeing a way to skip it somewhere else before, but forgot to look or ask. Now I can take advantage of an easier option instead trying to lock all the balls!

Quoted from NeilMcRae:

yet they continue to ship pinball machines with cheese for playfields.

Come on now, you act like this issue is continuing after many (and none that I’ve seen elsewhere) have not had any issues after May playfields and June builds. I get it, it sucks some people are seemingly being screwed, but this blanket statement stuff is pure BS. And we haven’t even finished production yet, there’s supply issues and people just being such dicks about issues it’s no wonder they’re being ghosted. Who knows what will happen in a few months, maybe playfields will finally be available after they get games out to people patiently waiting. I’ve been told by more than one JJP employee playfields will be available. Take it however you want it but blatant false statements ruin your credibility and make me less likely to value your opinion.

Quoted from NeilMcRae:

ts +still+ happening

Here’s another tip for you - some people over seas are just now receiving builds prior to June, so this is to be expected by most people but thanks for showing your need for requiring special attention.

#12639 2 years ago
Quoted from psexton:

is there an adjustment of some kind I could do to make the inner loop easier to hit?

For me it’s all about the timing, and a quick blast of the button then let off instead of slam button and hold tends to get me that loop better, without adjustments.

Appetite for Destruction was released on this day, 34 years ago.

https://www.thisdayinmusic.com/classic-albums/guns-n-roses-appetite-for-destruction/

Game destroyed me last night, best I could do was a 25,000,000 jackpot.

#12826 2 years ago

I love it when I have 5 balls locked for power chord jackpot and just as I send the 6th one up there, it times out. Every single time!

Anyone have any idea where Karl D sets his outlanes? Just curious.

Added over 3 years ago:

After looking closer at a video of his stream where he gets wizard mode, it like Karl’s outlanes were in the middle for that game.

I’m guessing his pitch may be steeper than my 6.8 since the ball seems to come down to the flippers faster with less side to side bounce.

#12872 2 years ago

Finally nailed a 6 ball power chord jackpot and it was worth over 7,000,000!

They also seem to be a great way to resurrect a less than stellar performance on a song. The award besides points has been add a ball plus ball saver again for a short period of time.

*** I don’t always seem to get ball saver with power chord jackpots and I’m not sure what causes it to happen when I do.

As I have 3 locked and 3 bouncing around in the pops pushing that jackpot over 80k during band frenzy and... time out.

I had to walk away from my GNR and didn’t touch it for over a week.

Vacation is over so it’s back to heavy daily use again. According to the audits, our house sitter and their guests played it while I was away. They’re not really into pinball either.

Hit a 190 song level today, been awhile since I passed 175 after maxxing it a few weeks ago.

My biggest struggle with this game seems to be consistency regardless oF how well I’m playing and how much I accomplish with my strategies that have gotten me much higher scores in the past.

Quoted from screaminr:

it's just a moderation notice from pinside

Moderation notices serve as a reminder to me that there's no need to make a donation to Pinside at this time.

Another smooth, quick WiFi update today. This game is a beast! Still working on score consistency, I struggle with that the most. Load up boosters, load up on patches, sometimes I can get around 50 million on a song, other times it's a few million. Seems pretty random, in a way, yet there's got to be a formula. And if there is, it seems the formula for a high score changes or varies depending what song you're on.

In other news, Keith does intend to balance song and mode scoring, according to comments in the Beta chat.

#14026 2 years ago

Probably already asked and answered, but when does the JJP warranty begin? At date purchased, date received, when you fill out the game registration, or?

Asking for a friend (not on Pinside) who still has their game sitting NIB while they await the house they’re moving into, to be ready.

Thanks!

#14027 2 years ago

I’d like to see how Axl would have responded to the ridiculous ways I’ve been moderated, if it were him, lol!

Would love to post screen caps of the violations and their reasons, while others did worse in the same threads. I’m sure others can relate. It’s not balanced and often seems targeted.

Was curious what everyone’s favorite song to play was, surprised there’s not a topic and poll. Rocket Queen really gets me amped up!

Also badass is when multiball is going on a song and you just happen to have to hit the flippers at the exact same times the heavy beats are hitting, feels like you’re really part of the song.

I’d be more inclined if Pinside was a revenue stream for products I offer and sell here but I mainly provide them with content at no cost to them. It’s not that I don’t deserve moderation at times either, it’s mostly the hypocrisy of why they do it to me at times. I’ve wanted to kick in again but the last few moderations were out of line.

So to keep this thread on topic, regarding my donation status, “I’m gonna kick it on down the line” for now.

Quoted from PinMonk:

I'm not a fan of moderation, either, but it's pretty much all that keeps this place from devolving into rec.games.pinball and people just leaving en masse because there's too much dick-measuring and non-pinball noise. So, a necessary evil, even if I don't deserve any of it (ha!).

Couldn’t agree with this assessment any more!

Pinmonk, my bad if I came across in a negative way towards you, I wasn't trying to make an issue with you.

I like, appreciate & respect what you do here. I just didn't feel inclined to re-up it right now with how BS the recent moderations were. It literally came down to that because I have been overdue, so to me it wasn't really a BS excuse. More of a principle thing. But thank you.

Well I can finally say I got both the song and the encore song applause jackpots right after one another. Too bad it was a sub 30 million point game. And both were Chinese Democracy songs. Then I blew two balls and failed to collect an extra that was waiting. Taking a break then back at it.

Lol that’s hilarious! I’ll try and hit my grand champion score with the wifey and let her collect some jackpots a little later.

Installing the PinMonk fan kit was a literally a breeze. Took less than 20 minutes, the airball deflector took less than 5 to install. Catching sunset before I play test but everything powered up fine with no issues.

The wire snippers and zip ties were a nice touch in addition to the packaging, design and ease of installation with the connectors and instructions.

Play test with Tibetan Breeze kit - definitely a huge difference and solid upgrade!

Now for some disclosure - I heard previous talk of people trying or suggesting to DIY this. And I was one who had already done that, before the GNR kit was ready and not due to those discussions. This kit works better than what I had setup myself, plus now the inner loop is way easier to complete now that the coil up there is staying cooler.

So my point is although some may be able to DIY this with various methods, I’m glad I finally went with this kit. It’s a cleaner and more professional look as well as an improvement in performance.

#14324 2 years ago
Quoted from Ecw0930:

I like my SE better than an LE/CE.

It’s totally okay. I haven’t gotten to play the SE yet but I hear that’s the one you want if you want faster flow and looping.

Personally, I really think this is one of the best upper playfields ever and utilizing it for patches, ball locks and power chords seems to add a deeper but more technical element. That’s my preference but if I wanted speed and flow I’d likely prefer the SE.

One of the best parts about this game is how it can be a game for both sides of that spectrum. It’s great in both versions.

#14325 2 years ago

Side note, it’s almost ridiculous how much better this game is with the fan kit. I can make my shots so much easier now, I’m hitting 6 ball power chords more regularly, and getting higher average scores.

And the airball deflector saved me at least 2 or 3 times already. This is all in just 3 full games since installing both.

#14329 2 years ago
Quoted from Ecw0930:

I feel maybe more advanced players (so pretty much anyone that plays regularly hahah) might enjoy the LE more. I actually kinda want this game to have MORE flow. But it's so damn good how it is.... It's a different, rare, breed and I love it.

Couldn’t agree more with your assessment. You’re doing it right!

I’m anxious to play an SE so I can see how game play differs strategy wise in case I can learn how to play the LE better and plus it’s still GNR and it’s JJP so it doesn’t really matter if it’s an SE, LE or CE - are all going to be excellent. And there’s one that’s perfect for any preferred style of gameplay.

#14331 2 years ago

I agree with that as well. Something about how it’s coded, the risk versus reward, patch strategy, booster multiballs, cash out or add a ball... It draws me in even more and makes me want to explore all the rules, how it works and what all comes into to play, in more depth. Being able (or having to) to constantly change my strategy on the fly also keeps it extra interesting and increases the variety in how I’d play a ball or what I might normally go for otherwise.

It might be a lot to absorb all at once but once you get the general structure of it all, the game becomes even more addicting as you attempt to put it all together. Make the right shots, build up and stack all 4 boosters plus hit their jackpots, collect the right patch combos, start songs with huge levels and all balls locked, nail a 6 ball power chord, get band frenzy, boost jackpot, collect applause and nail the encore?!? Pull all that off once!

Quoted from PinMonk:

If there is, I'll change them.

I’d have to double check but for some reason I think after the step with the molex connector to tap power, the revision of instructions I had may not have mentioned to add the 4’ extension next. I found that extra wire later on when I went to begin connecting the fans. Even looked back at step 1 to make sure I didn’t miss mention of it in there. No big deal as these are easy to install without instructions - the key part was knowing where to tap for power.

#14353 2 years ago
Quoted from allsportdvd:

#1 how much song value do you lose if you decide to choose a different song to play?
#2 What does band frenzy do?

#1, I think they changed the code so instead of losing value you stay where you are but if you keep the song that’s presented as opposed to choosing one, I think you get around +15 roughly. I think I saw it here somewhere.

#2, band frenzy, you can really boost your song jackpot by hitting the pops. There’s more to it than that.

ZaphX has explained both of these better in previous posts I believe. I’d have to look and see if there’s some key posts. I think it’s difficult to compile all the various info about strategy when it’s intermixed with all the other posts but maybe a few of us can come up with something or make a thread about scoring and strategy only? It seems necessary with how deep this game can be, the risk/reward and all the other elements that come into play for scoring.

Sending 2, 3 and more balls to the upper playfield into the super lock all in succession or at virtually the same time is one of the most rewarding feelings of satisfaction and bliss I’ve ever had with pinball.

#14920 2 years ago
Quoted from cybevenom:

the feeling when you finally lock all six balls and erase Keefer from the powerchord leaderboard.

YES! I have a new challenge I'm working on now... After the 6 ball power chord jackpot is awarded, I'm trying to send all 6 right back up there again ASAP. No dice yet, about the best I've managed to do so far is another 4 or so within a minute or two. That upper playfield is so well done.

#14922 2 years ago
Quoted from RTS:

Plus it's fun to multitask the different shots with the upper pf flipper if it's not a clean lock from below.

Totally agree. I like how you can send some up there to the lock cleanly, without needing the upper flipper. But if not, you can manipulate that upper flipper in a way to get control of the ball, or cradle it, then send it to the lock. I also like how you can "loop" the ball in the upper playfield more and more after you've gotten that booster multiball activated up there since it takes more hits each time.

There's a lot of strategy you can employ with that upper playfield whether you're trying to get the lock filled, grab extra patches, and so on.

#14933 2 years ago

Sorry if it’s been asked and answered here or on another JJP thread, but what do you guys think is the best cleaner for the invisiglass? I thought I read somewhere that ammonia based cleaners can be bad for it.

I've never related to folks who talk about games that are 'bolted to the floor'.

#15004 2 years ago
Quoted from Damonator:

After GnR and LOTR, which would you say are your top 3 favorites?

They’re all favorites for many reasons - some sentimental, some nostalgic, some not very common, some museum quality. There’s only 2 I’d really consider letting go out of what I have right now but I have no need or desire to. Still working on adding more.

Gofers, Champion Pub and TFTC are up there towards my top 5 favorites of what I currently own.

GNR destroyed me as usual tonight. Best I could do was around 40,000,000.

#15036 2 years ago

I got mine faster direct with JJP than it would have been from my local distributor who insisted their allotment would probably come first. I saw people who ordered from them a few days before me didn’t get theirs till at least 2-4 weeks after me. Some distributors may vary but this is what I experienced.

#15087 2 years ago

For anyone having trouble scoring more than 20,000,000 or so, or anyone who has issues with the ball getting stuck by the pops, I’d check the pitch.

At 6.8 I don’t get nearly as many side drains since the ball is less floaty. I also don’t have issues with the ball getting stuck in the pops anymore.

I had it there when I was hitting highs of 80,000,000 but reverted back about a month ago and hadn’t cracked 30,000,000 since I did that. After going back to 6.8 and a fresh side to side level, I’m consistently hitting 40,000,000+ again.

I can’t stress enough how important boosters and patches are either. Study the patches and what they do and what patch combos do. For example, as other have said, Fender patch makes band frenzy much easier to achieve during a song and you need that active, and send balls to the pops while active, to really build your jackpot.

Try to avoid Rocket Queen until you have the condom patch, try and do Welcome to the Jungle after you have the gun and rose patch.

I also like to get the 4 sponsor patches early on - not only for what they do individually but once you get all 4 you are awarded an extra ball you can try to collect.

There’s little reward in giving it hell trying to play a song for points if your song level is 75 or lower - you’ll work your ass off and barely get a few million.

If I accidentally start a song before I am ready to because I know my song value is not high enough then I will just play the song as long as I can to try to cash out when there is an extra ball award to collect.

#15196 2 years ago
Quoted from Shmilder:

I wish Karl would do some more steaming.

I’d like to know what his game pitch and other settings are at. His pitch looks on the higher side due to how fast and less floaty the ball comes down. Looked like his outlanes were in the middle on the videos, not sure about the rest of the settings.

Approaching 700 plays on my LE now.

Just replaced the factory balls which were getting a few spots on them. You can see the spots where the yellow micro fiber cloth reflects onto the balls.

Did a fresh wax job and tightened the record, the posts and etc all still look great and the fresh wax made it nice and wicked fast again.

Also added nylon washers day one out of the box, but went with black, and also put them on the leg levelers.

Then one of them dropped back onto the playfield and SDTM. Which is when the sound turned off, flippers stopped responding but everything else carried on as if I was playing the song. The other ball remained in its lock position and there was no ball search.

This happened to me one time exactly how you described and it was right after a code update so I thought it was a glitch - but there actually was a ball stuck up by the pop bumpers under the drumstick ramp. Can’t say that’s for sure what happened to you but it’s worth an extra good look over.

Album modes and wizard mode aren’t a priority for me since scoring isn’t worth it at the moment while code is being balanced and polished in comparison to what you can get on song jackpots. I’ll do tour multiball also, and the one that frustrates me the most is Slash solo… if it was big points and chance for an extra ball or if I didn’t lose my ball on it every time except once that I can think of maybe I’d change my mind. Poor Slash…. His thing is cool just not worth enough for the risk yet.

Ran into a conundrum now that I’m more acclimated with patches and boosters prior to starting a song, the effects of band frenzy and how Fender patch with thunderchucks helps drive the jackpot higher during band frenzy within a song…. So what about power chords? This is my dilemma.

It seems counter productive to waste a band frenzy opportunity trying to get a big powerchord jackpot. So my strategy has been either get the powerchord asap when song starts, or don’t bother.

Maybe after I get a band frenzy I’ll then go back and try for a powerchord jackpot. But the largest 6 ball one I’ve gotten wasn’t even 10 million points whereas band frenzy has given my jackpots boosts of over 10 million and more on average.

#17108 2 years ago
Quoted from zaphX:

The thing about going for power chord is it cleans up the playfield, allowing you to make more targeted shots.

This, besides frenzy not usually being ready early in the first minute or two of a song is the main reason I go for powerchord jackpots right away in the beginning of the song.

#17193 2 years ago
Quoted from Eskaybee:

Getting the ball into the Duff bass will reset the powerchord timer + add a multiplier to the powerchord jackpot, so keep that in mind too.

This is the first I’ve learned this tidbit which is very helpful…. Thanks!!

Okay, for a few weeks now I’ve been suspicious I’m not actually receiving some of the extra balls I’ve earned. I was just playing Sweet Child of Mine on ball 2, and during the song, collected 2 extra balls, the EB skull animations came on the screen and everything. I failed to finish the song and it then started on my last ball. This isn’t the only song or time I’ve felt ripped off but I’m positive it just happened.

After about 3 years of not seeing one of my retired pinball buddies I call him up and invite him for pinball. I tell him about all 9 machines I added while waiting for GNR since he was last here.

He arrives. Swears he’s gonna save GNR for last. Browses the whole collection. Hits up Champion Pub one time. The next three hours it was all GNR for him, I didn’t even get offered a 2 player game. He never played any of the other games the rest of the night.

Seeing someone who’s played mostly 60’s-80’s games their whole life aside from my mostly mid 90’s - early 00’s collection - who’s got darn good flipper skills - play such a high end game with the latest tech and wow factor that raised the bar was absolutely worth every penny the game cost.

I never did take a turn after he left. Just hanging out and answering his questions about what was what on the game as he played again and again was enough to make my night.

#17355 2 years ago
Quoted from zaphX:

Civil War is a song that consistently kills me off.

This one seems to be the most difficult of all the songs. The shots it wants you to make are some of the toughest to hit in the whole game and it doesn't seem to let up with how much it wants you to try and hit them.

I blew a 54,000,000 plus jackpot on Paradise City tonight. Had gun and rose patch, around 140 song level or so. Not my best, I've had max song level a few times in the past. The other day I blew well over 100,000,000 in jackpots on one game and still ended up in the 70,000,000 range. Outlanes are still at factory default settings.

#17369 2 years ago
Quoted from Rolls-Royce:

but I collected "Gun" in 3 games in a row and there’s no revolver besides Welcome to the Jungle

I think you need to get the gun paired with the rose in order for it to activate higher scoring on Welcome to the Jungle and Paradise City, then it will show up next to those songs on the song selection list.

#17402 2 years ago
Quoted from Rolls-Royce:

I switched to Fender a few days back

You definitely want this patch before starting any song also. Fender is more universal for all songs since it will improve how quick you can get to band frenzy.

But gun doubles patch scoring. I’m not sure exactly what they mean by that but I’ve been getting that first, then fender, then I try for duff and Vader and thunder chicks then the rose. That’s as of this week.

I’ll likely change it up again soon but with this general direction I’m averaging 30,000,000 a game easy and losing 50,000,000-100,000,000 worth of jackpots.

Had to order some of the blue snubber rubbers for my scoop today. $2.99 for a little rubber isn’t terrible but they’re charging me $10.63 to ship 6 of those little things usps priority mail. It definitely isn’t costing them even half that.

Sort of irritated there’s only one place I know of to get them and I didn’t have a good experience the only other time I ordered there. Not really one to complain much but it seems wrong.

What’s worse is I didn’t order them before I needed them. Now I have to play something else for a few days or risk a little damage.

#18522 2 years ago

Insane shipping costs aside, I have to wonder how long it’s going to take to change these things out. Or if there’s a quick and easy way anyone figured out.

Looks like a small wrench and tons of turns might get them out without removing the scoop or guitar super lock mech.

We lost our local classic rock station that began in 1985 in 2011 to country. Yesterday, the original 93.5 WTPA branding and classic rock returned.

From the article:

“The change took place at 9:30 a.m. on Dec. 21, with Guns N’ Roses’ “Welcome to the Jungle” being the first song played under the returned classic rock format.”

In other news, I lost over 100,000,000 in jackpots in one game this evening, including 55,000,000 on Don’t Cry.

Quoted from holminone:

How did you do it?

It looks like a lot of steps but it can be done in under 30 minutes. This method for replacing the snubber rubber is considerably faster than following the instructions for the cliffy, mainly because you don’t have to remove all the screws completely, or cut any wire ties, or unplug any wire connections. You also don’t need to get under the playfield at all. Just lift it out to a normal service position.

Have your 1/4” and 11/32” nut drivers, a small or thin 8mm wrench and mircofiber or other cloth ready.

DISASSEMBLY

- Remove the bass guitar wire form (11/32”)
- Remove the Axl statue (11/32”)
- Remove the screw under the Axl statue (1/4”)
- Completely loosen (no need to remove) the screw on the guitar head super lock (1/4”)
- Completely loosen (no need to remove) the other 2 screws on the upper playfield - one near the back by VUK and one near the side corner. (1/4”)

(* just un-threading completely and not removing those screws all the way saves a TON of time, aggravation and headache trying to fish them back down into their locations)

- Carefully and slightly lift upper playfield just enough to not snag or break wires. You just need enough room to get a nut driver down to the 3 nuts (11/32”) on the metal guide that's on top of the plastic under the guitar head super lock and the one 11/32” nut on the gate that connects to the plastic. You’ll likely want to angle the guitar head of it just a little bit towards the bass side of the game for best clearance.

You’ll find the sweet spot if you have your nut driver ready and you can maneuver the upper playfield a little to reach all the nuts as you go if necessary but I was able to reach it all where I had it resting.

- Stick a microfiber cloth under the upper playfield to rest it gently on whatever it's now situated on top of.

JJP-GNR-upper-playfield-partial-removal-1 (resized).jpgJJP-GNR-upper-playfield-partial-removal-1 (resized).jpg

- Loosen the one nut (11/32”) on the right side of the gate
- Remove the other nut (11/32") on the left side of the gate that's connected to the plastic under guitar head.
- Lift the end of the gate off the plastic, swing it out of the way

- Replace the metal guide
- Swing the gate back over top of the plastic.
- Tighten all 3 of the 11/32” nuts on the plastic, and the one 11/32” nut loosened on the other side of the gate so you could lift and swing it out of the way.
- Carefully manipulate upper playfield back into place.
- Tighten all 4 screws (1/4”)
- Replace Axl statue (11/32”)
- Replace bass wireform (11/32”)

Blew over 65,000,000 SCOM jackpot but made up for it with a 135,000,000 Paradise City applause jackpot. Finally not only broke 100,000,000 but put some extra on top and ended with 205,447,239! What a rush. It’s difficult to describe how it felt in the final minute of Paradise City knowing what I had at stake and not wanting to blow it as I have with so many other 50,000,000+ jackpots.

I had all sponsors and going into PC I had the gun and rose patch so song value was at max. Didn’t do real good with the boosters on this game but 75% of the patches collected and about 3 extra balls were just enough.

Pitch is around 7.2-7.3, factory settings, factory outlanes.

The 4 screw heads are all 1/4" size. Not sure about the other details.

Hey guys i had a rubber break off. Does anyone have a rubber list for GNR LE. Also in the meantime i have a slightly bigger rubber i can use for the meantime. My next question is does the whole guitar neck have to come off to be able to put the rubber on?

Pretty sure it's going to be the 1 1/2" I.D. ring you need there. The only other large rings on the game are 2 1/4" I.D.

I don't think you need to remove the whole upper playfield. See this post for a quicker, easier way to get in without removing the whole upper playfield or cutting wire ties & etc.

You should be able to get in to that gate where you need the rubber and back out in under 30 minutes.

Would love a listing of shots per song to target (e.g. “inner loop”, “left orbit”, “right ramp” for song X) but have not come across this.

I hear stuff like that all the time when I’m playing and I rarely if ever have to rely on color to get through a song. The callouts will let you know what to hit. But even if color blind the shots will still be flashing.

Quoted from jacksparrow0112:

Are the flashing shots for each song consistent

I believe so, for the most part at least, and if not, I haven’t noticed.

Didn't top my recent 205,447,239 high score, but just got a 183,274,861 score last night. Figured I'd share a small outline in case people are trying to get bigger points.

Started on ball 1 with "It's So Easy" because I didn't have much luck with boosters going in but had Gun, Fender, Vader and Duff patches so that's usually a good song to start with if you need to get a bit of points with little going into a song. Song level was around 90 I think. Hit applause jackpot of around 35,000,000. Encore was "Welcome to the Jungle" with a song level around 135 I think, where I cleared 75,000,000 on the applause jackpot.

I disabled album mode and continued working on patches and locking balls. Collected Fender and then Marshall to award extra ball. Collected that, was sitting around 3-4 balls left in the game. But, Slash solo happened so I lost a ball.

Next song was November Rain. Being as long as it is, and that I was down to 1 ball in play about 3 minutes in, I cashed out at around 10,000,000 because it was awarding an extra ball. So I'm around 118,000,000.

Went for more boosters, ball locks and patches. Lost another ball, was down to my final one.

Ended up getting the Rose patch to go with Gun to increase Paradise City and Welcome to the Jungle scoring. I figured I'd go for Paradise City if I had a chance at one more song since I know that one usually nets a lot of points and I wanted to beat my high score. Didn't do as good as I should have but still ended up with the 183,274,861.

I also had the poster, the game logo, the t-shirt, Melissa's candy, and a few other patches I'm likely forgetting. Will try to take better notes or just do some video sometime.

If you're struggling with scores... Although I finally cleared 200,000,000 - I have nearly 750 of my own plays on this game now. And I still finished with under 750,000 just yesterday in a game. Rebounded with a 127,000,000 or so score. This game is a masterpiece design and code wise. Don't let low scores discourage you.

If you want to try and get a bigger score, here's my best advice for the easiest approach. Skip album modes completely, they're just not worth it points wise yet. Try to at least get Fender, Duff, Vader, Gun and Rose patches while also trying to get a few balls locked and also try to get some good boosters in. Then play Welcome to the Jungle. I can't think of an easier way to score big points with the least amount of effort.

If you can't hardly get anything before starting a song, then It's So Easy seems like a good choice since it's a frenzy so scoring can be a little better even without boosters and patches.

Study the patch list and what they award. That's how I determined what I thought was most important for me, based on how I'm playing the game and what my goal currently is (highest score possible). I'm sure I'll completely change my patch strategy when I decide I want to go for Not in this Lifetime.

If you go into a song with 70 or lower song level, you're going to struggle with a huge jackpot, especially without certain patches. So in these situations, it's usually best to cash out early - especially if an extra ball is offered. Then work on those boosters, ball locks, and patches some more.

Last but not least - I can't count how many games I've gone all the way to ball 3 and didn't even get to start a song. I've thrown away many games just trying to get setup with the right patches, some good booster action, and locking balls. Recent higher scores I'm getting, I still focus on those things and sometimes still don't get to start the song till ball 3 anyway but it's so worth it when I pull it all off.

Quoted from zaphX:

playing songs from the same album has the benefit of accruing higher and higher jackpots.

Case in point, tonight I had my Gun, Fender, Vader, Duff and Rose but it served me up Rocket Queen. Too bad I didn’t have the condom patch but I did well on boosters and started with a 125 song level. Was down to last ball in play, decided to cash out the jackpot at 10,000,000 or so leaving me at 15,000,000 approximate score because it offered up an extra ball.

Stupid Slash solo was lit so when this happens and I don’t wanna play album mode, the only option is to try and lock all 6 balls to force start the next song. Luckily I got a booster and stacked another so locking 6 balls was easy and next song was Nighttrain. Since it was the same album now it was song level 145 even though I didn’t do so well on the boosters leading into it.

Blew 35,000,000+++ applause jackpot then basically gave up cause slash solo, album mode and tour multiball all were lit and I blew 2 balls on those modes. Ended with 27,000,000+, only game I played tonight.

This game should have been 100,000,000+ but I had some terrible balls after the first 2 songs and basically fell apart.

Also, picture how much higher those song levels and possible scores would have been had I had the train patch for Nighttrain and the condom patch for Rocket Queen.

#19323 2 years ago

Just played another game tonight… Ball 1 I lost before I even hit 500,000. Almost wrote the whole game off then got my main patches, locked 6 balls, started a song…. 4-5 songs later, ended up with over 111,000,000 and I even lost a ball during slash solo as usual. Blew over 50,000,000 on Welcome to the Jungle applause jackpot I just couldn’t hit for some reason, and blew another 24,000,000 or so on another song.

Got 2-3 extra balls just for cashing out songs I knew I didn’t have the energy to finish that offered extra ball. This is key because you can come out ahead. Why struggle to try and finish say 75% of a song when you’re down to 1 ball in play? I used to go for it all the time. But the extra ball, and going for more patches, skipping album modes and trying to lock the 6th ball to start another song seem to be more rewarding points wise, in the long run. I’ll rock a song as far as I can but once I’m down to the last ball I usually cash out now. My best song jackpots are shorter songs where I can keep at least 5 but many times 6 balls in play during the whole song till encore.

Still the usual - factory settings and outlanes, plenty of wax and a 7.2-7.3 pitch at flippers. Went for the same patches, Gun, Fender, Duff, Vater, then I go for Marshall and Gibson to get extra ball lit if I am down to last ball or if not I’ll save them and go for Rose and Frank’s drumsticks first. I also almost never trap the ball during songs. Run and gun all the way.

Been recording overhead videos just in case anyone is curious how I play but didn’t put them online yet.

#19330 2 years ago

It remembers how many balls you have locked when it releases them during booster multiballs. And during booster multiballs if you throw one in the lock it will also add it to the total locked count and release it back down into play.

#19345 2 years ago

I don't know all the scoring answers, just posting my observations based on how I'm playing and what's occurring, glad it's helped a few while also promoting healthy discussion. I'm thankful when others chime in with what they've discovered or learned - there is a lot to absorb. And even if I had it all memorized, all those tips and strategies would still need to be executed well during a game.

#19347 2 years ago
Quoted from Vespula:

Still wish I knew what need to do during a song to try and ensure that I have the extra ball with cash out

Eskaybee just answered that question a few posts up. His info has helped me a lot, same with ZaphX and I'm sure I missed a few but those two seem to have a lot of regular and good info so I remember them easier.

Quoted from Eskaybee:

During a song, lighting all 9 inlanes (AMP, GNR, JAM) will qualify the light extra ball IF you cash out. It progressively gets harder to light those inlanes the more songs you start.

If I could add to that, I think this is part of why it's imperative to try and not start a song at all unless you have all 6 balls locked, or as many as you can lock, whenever possible.

With more balls in play during a song, you're more likely to get those inlanes all lit up much faster, and then have the option to cash out early with the extra ball included. Jackpots also increase faster and end up higher with more balls in play.

Would I try and lock 6 balls, get my boosters, patches and try to go straight into November Rain or Estranged? Heck no. Neither of those has a song specific patch that improves their scoring that I know of either. I'd have to really be in the zone and not missing any shots to actually think I might make it the whole way through.

The shorter the song, the better your chances will be to complete the song, and hopefully with more than one ball in play.

Someone mentioned song value drops I believe 15 points when you choose the song yourself. So I generally try to take what it serves me to capitalize on the max value I can have at the time. If I'm near my last ball on the game, and if I have patches that are song specific I haven't gotten to take advantage of yet, then I'll go ahead and choose a song I have a patch for since it will most likely be my last song of the game, I want it to be as maxed out as possible (and likely from an album I already played a few songs off of.)

Appetite for Destruction is my favorite album to play because it's got plenty of short songs you can score big on early in the game. It's so Easy is one of my favorites, I can score pretty well with usually just Gun, Fender, Vader and Duff. Same with Out to Get Me.

After I complete one or two of those shorter songs, I'm back to getting the Rose to go with my Gun patch for Paradise City and Welcome to the Jungle, the train for Nighttrain or the condom for Rocket Queen. Because then I've already got a song or two done on Appetite, the album level will be higher, then going back in with the appropriate patches and cherry picking the next song I want on that same album usually yields great rewards.

Quoted from jacksparrow0112:

Is there a more desirable order to qualifying the booster multiballs?

That I’m not sure about since it’s difficult to study what’s happening as it’s occurring. But I do try and start them when I need it the most. The upper playfield lights target seems to be the easiest for me to start besides the one in the inlane with the AMP letters. Plus you can loop and hit that purple light target a few times before you let the ball drop towards a GNR letter for the patch, or lock it.

Under the upper right flipper I don’t usually go for since I haven’t figured out the best way to hit it consistently but I never pass on a chance to do it when I see a ball going that way.

The pyro one seems to be the most random since it’s harder to hit and start but I think super skill shot helps that one activate easier.

Don’t forget the jackpots in boosters also help boost song value and jackpots.

I wish I knew if there was an order to try and stack them in but it’s definitely worth looking into and paying more attention to. Once you get one going, it’s usually not too hard to add a second and once you have two going the third and forth sometimes come easy if you can keep everything in play.

Game destroyed me last night. Had 2 games in a row without even 1,000,000 points. My high was just over 8,000,000. Played maybe 5 games total. Hoping to rebound sometime today.

It doesn't matter what you know about the rules or how well you play or not, sometimes it's just going to be extra brutal. No 2 games on it seem to be alike, ever. What a masterpiece.

#19387 2 years ago
Quoted from Vespula:

In reflection, I love this rollercoaster style about it. When it's happening and game over, I'm thinking with a "ok, so you wanna piece of ME?" attitude.... and I smash the "one more" start button because I want to know what's around the corner... After several of those I might walk away, regroup and often come back guns blazing and play better and have a "top 8" game, but maybe it ain't my day.
Like you said, love that no two games are ever alike...even the brutal ones seem to find a way to uniquely take me out with sniper efficiency and I am so enamored and stunned at the same time when that happens that I humbly smile in respect for the masterpiece I'm fortunate enough to own.
I will enjoy this game for many years. I usually stop playing games I've mastered or have become boring. This ain't going to be one of those...not in this lifetime.

I couldn't really agree anymore with how you described your experience in playing and owning this game. It definitely describes how I feel about it. I don't ever see this one becoming boring and even if I knew all the rules and had gameplay mastered I still don't see it happening.

I did walk away last night to regroup but never returned as intended. Lots of F bombs were dropped, along with some overly aggressive bumps. Anxious for today's action, whenever I get to it.

Set a new personal record tonight for fastest 6 ball power chord jackpot from start of song - 1 minute, 2 seconds! It was on "This I Love" and was worth 5,750,000. Album Level 0 and Song Level 86 at the time. Only had the Gun, Bra, Amp (got those in order, not by choice via mystery "Award 3 patches") & Fender patches at the time.

The real kicker is I had the first 5 balls locked within 38 seconds. Then I fumbled around a little bit with the last one.

#19517 2 years ago
Quoted from Vespula:

This is great.
Also I really enjoyed watching your 40+mil video.

Thanks a bunch! That was supposed to be my 100+mil video but I accidentally uploaded the wrong one. The 100+mil video may go up soon.

Quoted from Vespula:

I learned several things from watching it! One if them is you're dangerous on that guitar lock!

This is key! That upper playfield is so important strategy-wise. You need to be able to hit it regularly with the left flipper as much as the right flipper. I've actually hit the left orbit with left flipper and right orbit with right flipper also, which is extremely helpful. If you can pull that kind of stuff off, the game gets easier, especially in clutch situations.

I said it before, I like to go for Power Chord as soon as the song starts. Once I get band frenzy during the song, then I focus on the shot just to the left of the scoop through the center spinner and into the pop bumpers. Then, as I get down to just a few balls in play, I'll go for Power Chord again since it always adds a ball (unless you drain last ball in play to get Power Chord). Adding a ball via Power Chord is often how I'm able to keep playing through a song.

When not in song mode, I like to use the upper playfield to mix it up between getting patches and ball locks. Only after I have Gun, Fender, Vater and Duff will I consider locking the 6th ball to start a song. Which reminds me - I never, ever try and start a song with the scoop unless I've already got 6 balls locked. And that's only possible if you lock the 6th ball during a booster multi ball, then you'll have to hit the scoop to start it. Once I'm to that point, I don't usually risk going for more patches or potentially losing a ball - I'll go ahead and start the song. But ideally, I've gotten as many patches as I feel safe getting, then I'll lock the 6th ball to start the song.

If it's time to collect an extra ball, then I'll either try and do it with a booster multi ball or during a song. If those aren't options, and I'm on my last ball of the game, then I'll go exclusively for the extra ball and risk everything to do it.

Game has been beating me up lately. Usually it happens when I don’t start the first song with Gun, Fender, Vater and Duff patches. If I start a song without all 4 then I’ll at least try to salvage the song for an extra ball and cash out since jackpots will be too small with too much effort.

Once I get the 4th ball locked I really start going for the patches because I’m finding it easier to lock all 6 balls before I get those 4 key patches.

We’re approaching 20k posts in this thread faster than the POtC thread. Pretty awesome but I’m also not surprised.

Just a quick break - game is waiting for me so a few more rounds are on deck. Recent videos won’t go online because they’re full of bad language and bad attitude.

Quoted from deejaypee:

#19749 2 years ago

Somehow, with only the gun patch and 2 balls locked, it started me on This I Love and I kept getting add a ball till I got a 6 ball power chord worth almost 8,000,000! Ended up getting at least 18,000,000 on the song with nothing really going into it.

I was ready to walk away when the song started but decided to try and salvage what I could and go for an extra ball. Glad I didn’t walk away.

Just tore the glass off to do a fresh clean and wax, level and pitch check/adjust and tightened a spotlight that was loose on the servo. And the record, but with loctite this time. Just over 1000 plays in now.

#19779 2 years ago

Lol…. Wax on, wax off. I do this often. Usually every 100 games if you want it to always look like it just came out of the box. But it is faster and more furious that way, which is okay because that’s how this game already is so why not improve reaction time and reflexes some more.

#19787 2 years ago

Slash solo kept me from locking the 6th ball to force start song the other day also. Doesn’t always seem to happen but it did this time.

I just blew a huge 65,000,000+ jackpot cradling the ball for what I thought was the last 30 seconds of the song. Should have been a 200,000,000+ game. I got booed off stage with less than 3 seconds left probably. That’s what I get for cheating.

Ended up with a high of over 115,000,000 tonight since the recent wax but it took 20 some games to break 100m. Still factory settings but 7.25 pitch at flippers. Considered lowering it a bit back to where it was out of the box and see what happens for the next few rounds.

#19893 2 years ago

Just put my pitch back to factory out of the box with leg levelers all the way down. Feels way too slow now, and more floaty.

I did notice when the ball goes to the outlanes I seem to have a bit more ability to guide the ball with some nudges whereas with the higher pitch if it’s headed that way it’s usually a drain with authority and less chance to save it.

We’ll see how it goes today, I’m having an event with a variety of ages and skill levels. I already anticipate raising it back before the weekend ends. I like the fast ripping speed more than the slow floaty play even if it’s harder to play.

It is possible to put the loctite on the screw in the record without puncturing the record label. I just took the assembly apart from under the playfield, and pulled the whole shaft out. Then I put the loctite inside the shaft, stuck it back in the playfield, and put the record back down on top of it all. You just have to press hard enough into the record label with your thumb to keep the screw from spinning while you tighten it from underneath.

I've only made it to level 2, what happens when you beat it?

This only happened one time for me in over 750 games. I think after you complete level 2 it's the end because it sounded and looked like a victory, the mode ended before timing out and I think I netted over 10 million when it happened. But my memory is vague, so I'm not positive.

My post about making it without losing a ball - that particular instance, I didn't finish the mode, I got past level 1 and it started level 2 but then it timed out on me so I was in and out without losing the ball but no victory or completion.

Blew 6 balls on Rocket Queen with MAX song level tonight. Been hacking and grinding my way lately through multiple songs with smaller over jackpots it seems. Even my recent 280,000,000 score was a half dozen songs or more, none worth more than 55,000,000. The struggle is real with this game.

The washers go under the metal bracket, basically between it and the ball stopper. You're trying to lower the ball stopper so it's closer to the playing field.

Did that and had them under the bracket but it didn’t work for me the first time around. Doubled up the washers - 2 on each side, problem hasn’t been back since.

I should add, I forgot this part, one of my servos was seized once and I freed it by working it with my hand and it resumed working.

They definitely fail a lot for random reasons but I got lucky 2 times.

Don't fix what isn't broken. I don't even consider any of this "bulletproofing" nonsense to be worthwhile.
Play your game and enjoy it. If things break or fail, address them then.

100% agree, did it this way and haven’t had any issues, been an awesome 1000+ games no stress no worries, played it right out of the box.

I think advising newbies to disassemble and reassemble their brand new game (voiding the warranty) is poor advice.

Absolutely!

My scoop cliffy started to raise up in the front.

My factory installed scoop protector is still holding strong after 1000 plays. Not sure what to recommend for your Cliffy, maybe Cliffy himself can help. That’s who I’d ask if it were me. Seems like a common issue though, I’ve had Cliffys on other games do the same thing. Maybe the adhesive on them needs to be a bit stronger.

#20921 2 years ago
Quoted from SLicK350:

don't think I 'd want to try anything stronger.

I agree, I feel like too much adhesion would potentially cause more damage if it lifted paint or layers of wood when they lift or get warped. Personally, I think the metal on Cliffys needs to be stronger and better quality, or just a little bit thicker. Then maybe they will lay flat a bit longer instead of raising up.

After reaching a satisfying score position a few weeks ago, I had to take a little time away from GNR. The reason was to play some of my other games since I’m way beyond capacity and need to part with one or more, and not sure what to let go of. Want to keep them all but it’s getting ridiculous.

After my hiatus, I am rusty. And when I am rusty I get frustrated, and a little rough with the game…. and then Duff insults me. More than once. It’s glorious. Such a great game. Probably time to hit it heavy again.

#21097 2 years ago
Quoted from Wildbill327:

I felt like I was neglecting my other pins

Couldn’t agree more! I remember being elated with LOTR, Champion Pub, always wanted a TOM and got one 2 weeks ago… Plus the rest of my collection. But there’s still no comparison. I’d play GNR all day every day if it weren’t for feeling bad for the other games, cause they’re pretty decent too, just not next level like GNR. It’s incredibly difficult to walk by it to play something else. Part of the issue was also cause while waiting for GNR to arrive, I picked up 10 other pins. So they all need some quality time.

Both games I squeezed in on GNR last night didn’t even top 4 million. Usually I do a best of 3 at the least, but my wife needed a super jackpot so I quit early.

#21117 2 years ago
Quoted from Vespula:

I incorporate what I know when I can but get punished for being greedy or focused on the wrong thing especially in critical thinking and timing situations

Still one of the best things about this game is the risk/reward/strategy! I love how it burns you when too greedy. For me it’s trying to max out patches and then I lose ball 3 without ever starting a song.

Broke 21,000,000 this evening, only got 2 games in.

#21158 2 years ago

Only played 1 game tonight. Got through 3 songs. Had next to 0 patches. (Gun, Fender, Vater). My Michelle, 45 or so song level, started way before I wanted to. Got a 5 ball powerchord and a 30 second ball saver so I decided to try and finish it. Hit applause for around 5.5 million and made encore with Nighttrain, which was around 85 song level. Almost cashed out but hit another 5 ball powerchord so I kept going. Applause jackpot was still only around 8 million but I got Welcome to the Jungle for encore with about 130 song level and hit applause jackpot on that too. Only had 2 balls in play and got no encore. Ended up with a small 26,000,000 final score but it was still a nice run considering I started with next to no song level. And made it through 3 full songs in a row.

Feeling bad for my other games again.

Quoted from adrock:

I bet they complete the run.

They almost have to, they said 5000. Can’t really see them not doing it. This game is so awesome I’ve had FOMO for the last few months now on buying a second one just to keep it NIB.

#21167 2 years ago
Quoted from MikeS:

They also said 5000 Wonka LE's and I don't think they are anywhere close to that.

Good point. But I’m also assuming they can still build all 5000 Wonka LE indefinitely, license permitting. So if not now, maybe more will be run at a later date once demand starts draining more of what’s left of the current built supply.

#21171 2 years ago
Quoted from Vespula:

This to me indicates plausibly better to wind it down early and move on to toy story (pin bait ) and as another stated if they had the license to produce 5k they could start up and complete their run of GnR a year or more after TS launch when there are not anymore GnR nib and fulfill a second wave of demand again and possibly at higher prices.. kinda like they did with rerun of Wonka, maybe?

lol, yes, thank you, that was well done! And ultimately what I think I was trying to conclude, that if not now, they’ll likely finish the run later as needed.

#21174 2 years ago
Quoted from Xelz:

What’s the consensus on installing Cliffy’s scoop protector vs. keeping the OEM part?

I’m glad I kept the OEM part. I’ll add the cliffy later if it takes damage and needs covered.

The amount of effort it takes to do the cliffy versus how well the OEM has held up so far and just wanting to play it out of the box are all reasons why I did a hard pass. And people have complained about the Cliffy lifting and failing so I have no regrets.

Over 1000 plays and still good. Here’s a pic, just now, I was fixing to play and realized I have to change a second snubber rubber now.

Game pitch is confirmed at 6.5.

I’d maybe increase the pitch a little. But first, double / triple check how level it really is. If the back right is jacked up too high the bottom front could still read level. Mine lands on the right flipper every single time I launch regardless how high up the skill shot lane it goes.

#21280 2 years ago
Quoted from DinoBob:

Ok, added a small piece of felt to the ball guide. Its slowing the ball down, resulting in balls exiting from the skill shot to land on the right flipper.

Glad you got a solution figured out that works! That issue would have driven me to the brink of insanity.

Know what else JJP GNR is #1 at? Most active Pinside club thread with over 21k posts. Stern’s Metallica appears to come closest with 19k+. BM66 and Rick and Morty 17k+, same as JJP POTC.

I cashed out because I'm weak

LOL!!! Nice one! I probably would have cashed out also. Too many times I've run the jackpot up only to lose it. I'll keep it going if I have a lot of balls in play but if there's 50% or more of the song left with one ball and a score like that... Goodbye pride. As for MAX song level, I don't think they're easy to reach. I've maybe hit it around 5-10X in over 1000 games.

Got to play a tournament today and GNR LE was one of the 8 games in the lineup. Happily took 1st place on that game. Finished 2nd in qualifying but bombed it, tied for 2nd in finals then blew that too and ended up in 4th out of 15 people.

Quoted from Vespula:

Admittedly I am way behind on the patch knowledge, and forget about learning what all 46 (or whatever) of these patches do for the most part.

Instead of trying to learn them all, I just read through the list and cherry picked the ones that seemed most relevant to boosting scores, songs and etc plus 4 sponsors for extra ball and focus on them. Then I started memorizing how many times I had to hit the action button to get to the next one. So if I took gun first, then 6 hits to fender, 5 hits to Vader and collect Duff right after, and so on.

#21509 1 year ago
Quoted from dsmoke1986:

The left or right flipper?

Should feed to the left. You can try loosening the screws from above, just below the guitar super lock and turning the scoop and tighten them back down. That worked for me. Others have used washers as shims from underneath to try and change the trajectory with success as well. Some even adjusted the scoop eject power I believe.

Here’s the key post with the washer shim method:

In addition to the inlanes requirement for light extra ball added to cash out, to be able to successfully bring up "cash out and light extra ball" you need to have the center scoop lit green by completing the objective shots and be down to one ball on the playfield when you hit that green scoop, I believe?

Sounds accurate to me, in addition to what Eskaybee and Deejaypee said.

One of the most difficult things about this game for me is trying NOT to play it all the time. But I have forced myself to only allow one game per day lately. The other pins were feeling neglected. So I gotta do what I gotta do.

#21550 1 year ago

*disclaimer - the Hyperlytes I just installed are going to make the 1 game a day limit even more difficult to maintain. These things are incredible, totally immersed in extra lighting now all around, it definitely completes the game in that aspect. Simple install, well put together, looks like it could be factory with the connectors and controller box and rail style, and it’s awesome how perfectly integrated they are with the hot rails.

Cabinet lighting has been done before but nothing compares to how fluid this cabinet lighting is with how JJP did the hot rails. No other game cabinet lighting can possibly compare to this. That was a major factor in my decision. I am one who never buys mods, but these along with the airball deflector and fans from pin monk were must haves. I got the official art blades too. Guess the topper is next.

As for the 1 game limit I’m trying to impose on myself, at least I can let it ride in attract mode and look at the beauty with these new Hyperlytes from time to time without having to play it.

Quoted from Vespula:

But, I find myself avoiding playing if I can't dedicate multiple games or at least 30 minutes of time because once I start... well, you know...

This is one of the excuses I try to utilize to legitimize my decision and soften the blow from my GNR withdrawal.

#21553 1 year ago

Props to our wives! I’m surprised I haven’t pushed mine into going to therapy. She just gives me a look now when I say I’m buying another one.

The funny thing is we (really just I as she has no stake in this) ran out of room after 10 pins. Then she decided to taunt me by saying there was no more room. Time and again 8 more times and here we are and I’m already plotting out where the next one will go. Go ahead babe, tell me we’re out of room again and I’ll find another.

What’s this have to do with GNR? It’s the only one she ever played continuously for hours.

My playfield has held up great with no issues. But I still grabbed an extra playfield set and a plastics set and a few other extras so if for some reason this game ever needs fully restored, it can be done much easier with those parts in hand. Whether I'll ever need them or not made little difference in my decision. It was because I could, more than anything. I also thought about my 90's games and how infrequently I see playfields become available for those.

69 minutes and 40 seconds, felt like 90+. And thank God Scorebit didn't freeze or whatever it does sometimes because I worked my ass off for 170,984,129 points this evening. Probably played close to 10 songs. Had all but 8-10 patches. Highest song jackpot was maybe 30,000,000. Highest powerchord was 6 balls and 8,500,000. I cashed out on about 3 songs for extra balls. Probably had 4-6 total extra balls. Kept skipping album modes. Actually beat Slash solo the only time I got stuck with it. Still only my 5th best score but I'll take it.

After having several sub 30,000,000 games this week and almost deciding it was time to rip off the glass so I could clean and wax it again, somehow I found my groove again. I still need to clean and wax it again. But I will sleep better tonight. This game will never leave my collection.

#23178 1 year ago

Apologies if I sound a bit arrogant in assessing my scores. That’s not my intent. Mostly just wanted to share the struggle and eventual breakthroughs when they happen on this game along with a few tidbits of how I’ve gotten there.

I’ve had plenty of sub 1m point games on GNR and fail miserably plenty of times. 1450+ plays on this one and at least half are mine so I’ve got plenty of practice and different strategies based on what’s going on at any given moment in the game.

I think it’s awesome anytime any of you get excited about a score, regardless of what the total is. People have crushed some songs way higher than I have, I think my all time best was around 130,000,000 on paradise city but I had song max and lots of luck.

Also keep in mind I’m very active trying to get the highest scores on here for all my games and games I don’t own that I find in the wild on location or at other friends houses. If someone takes my score, I’ll often play and play to try and get it back.

A good example was Alien Star. Blownfuse (RIP) had the high score. I stayed up all night till sunrise cussing at the game and blew through a few hundred credits till I finally got that one. And no, I didn’t go after it intentionally after he passed, I worked for that one when he was still with us so he had a chance to take it back. I even told him about it to try and spark some additional competition on the game, lol!

One final thought, especially for games I have at home, they’re dialed in so nice. It makes a difference when you’re not constantly getting ripped off by a bricked or not complete loop shot on GNR going down the right drain, for example. It also helps being able to occasionally hit the left orbit and left ramp with the left flipper, same with the right side flipper, right ramp and right orbit. I always keep factory settings and outlanes in the middle. If a game is really hard sometimes I’ll bend and make special award an extra ball instead. That’s about it.

#23224 1 year ago

I’m actually not even hating slash solo as much anymore. It’s still not rewarding enough but it’s not terribly hard to get through. Then it’s done and out of the way for awhile. I’ll never understand the hate this game gets either.

#23276 1 year ago
Quoted from Doctor6:

Seems silly to subject the player to these album modes

As someone else pointed out to me awhile back on here, you can hold down the action button for a few seconds before launching a ball to turn off the album mode.

With the album mode disabled, you can then proceed to work towards playing more songs and focus on higher scoring. This is how I play 99% of the time. If you lose that ball, you'll have to disable album mode again before you launch the next ball.

If I want to complete the game someday I'll focus my patch strategy on making album modes easier to complete and change my playing strategy towards activating album modes faster.

I haven't bothered to change any factory settings at all except I did max out how many spins it takes to activate Slash solo.

Being able to bypass album modes was a game changer for me and should be for anyone else who doesn't like album modes.

Played just one game today. Trashed a song on Chinese Democracy even though I had 6 balls to start and cashed out with just 2 million and an extra ball.

Got a few boosters, had gun, fender, Vader, duff, drumsticks at this point.. get lighter, rose, a few others. Locked all 6 balls, selected Welcome to the Jungle since I had Gun and Rose. Forgot to check song level. Blew it anyway, about 3/4 into the song and lost a 65m jackpot. Ended with 20m.

Quoted from HornerSyndrome:

if you hit a clean left loop shot and then hold the right upper flipper does your ball consistently hit the coma target? Mine used to do this and now it hits just below it. I tried adjusting the flipper alignment but if I raise it up enough to hit the target then the ball hits the flipper tip even at rest and deflects it SDTM. I did move my machine and re-level it but seems like that slight a change wouldn’t effect the ball path that much on a fast shot but I’m not sure.

I'm still good and I'm at a 7.3-7.5 or so pitch. 1000+ plays. It feels like it's not ripping around the orbit quite as fast as it did last time I cleaned and waxed it, so it's probably due and that could be your issue. But if it was fine till you moved it and re-leveled it, then it seems more likely it's got something to do with your new pitch and level settings.

When I bought my Popeye, I could hit the left orbit and it would hit the gate and drop down one of the O-Y-L letters. After I first cleaned and waxed it, and since, the ball rips so fast it hits the gate and flies back down the orbit, skipping right past the O-Y-L letters, making the game modes more difficult to obtain.

Yes, that too was another reason I went with the poster art blades. Plus they came with the art blade protectors which are great when raising or lowering my GNR or any other playfield, and the poster art blades are much thinner than mirror blades.

Regular or black mirror blades also look amazing on this game. But then again, this game looks awesome anyway, even just bone stock out of the box.

Happy New Year everyone. Had a party last night. A few people hadn't ever seen GNR. They gave it some tries. Under 1 million each. Then asked me to show them how I play it. Decide to take one game only, battle, chop and grind with a slow start, low song levels & etc. for nearly an hour.. Went through about 3 songs. Slash solo lights. I tell them why I try and skip it, and I need to lock 6 balls to start a song. I somehow pull that off, play the song and an encore.

I'm up around 25,000,000. Last ball. Tell everyone I need to try and complete the 4 sponsor patches, had just Marshall left. Got it. Tell them now I still gotta collect the EB. Got that too thanks to a booster MB. Finished the booster, locked that 6th ball to skip slash solo and start another song. My Michelle. 195 song level. 65,000,000 jackpot I barely got. Encore, another 20,000,000 cause I cashed out since I was down to 1 ball. Tell them the only way to do this is lock another 6 balls to avoid Slash solo. SOMEHOW DO THAT AGAIN.

Shirt comes off, door opened to cool the room cause it was FIRE in there. And then I tell them I'm gonna choose Paradise City or Rocket Queen cause I have the patches. Select Rocket Queen. Nailed it. Encore was Paradise City. Random DUDE comes into the room, everyone tells him I've been playing a record setting game. He gets closer, starts talking to me, I tell him I'm setting records and playing over an hour straight on this game. He keeps talking and hovering super close, breaks the flow, game over. LOL. All good, I needed a break anyway.

P.S. Scorebit failed me again, so no record of that game on my logs. Not sure why it hangs up and not knocking it, I assume it's a GNR Beta Code issue.

#23930 1 year ago
Quoted from Vespula:

What was your final?

I really don't remember - I want to say I ended up around 80-85,000,000 or so. What I thought was around 65,000,000 on My Michelle might have actually been my total score after that song jackpot. I'm thinking My Michelle was around 45,000,000 or so jackpot.

Quoted from Eskaybee:

Scorbit has been a PIA and gets hung up so to speak for me too.

So frustrating. It seems to happen the most when I get 100,000,000+ point games too. 50% of my coin door opens were to try and reset the game and WiFi to get connected again. I didn't want to say anything because I actually like it a lot when it works and it's been great when it does.

GNR LE all the way for me. Don't know where I'd be without one of the best upper playfields of all time. My buddy bought an SE. Sold it after a month, hated GNR. Came to play my LE. Apologized in a way for hating on it (not verbatim) which I think was due to his subpar experience on the SE. He's been contemplating getting an LE ever since.

#23996 1 year ago

I could see the SE appealing to those who want the game to feel a bit faster, or if they're not into the added complexities of trying to master the upper playfield on the LE. I'm not here to hate on the SE, or those who have it and love it. It's still a JJP, and it's still a GNR. Welcome to the Jungle of PissedSide.

Beta has definitely been an extra added bonus experience on this game. It’s continually getting better very frequently - even though it was certainly much further along and complete than most new games are codewise when it was released.

Went to play a game today. Got irritated when my QR code failed to connect me again so there wouldn’t be record of my score or accomplishments.

Reluctantly decided to press on but almost turned the game off again mid way through once the first song was ready and only half the songs were available. At that moment I realized I had forgotten to turn adult mode back on after some young kids were over. I think those two things are about the only thing that’s ever come close to ruining my great experiences with this game.

Not sure how I managed to stick it out till the end but I was giving some company a tutorial so it wasn’t a total loss I guess. Still netted 20m.

Time to check my LED at Slash’s hat next.

Quoted from Pinfidel:

trying to hook it up to my wifi (which I couldn't get it to do),

When all else fails, if I reboot my modem and router, I have yet to have GNR not connect. For some reason, every now and then, I have to do that because it refuses to connect. You can power down, remove the USB WiFi card from the dongle, reinsert it, reboot the game and everything else - and if it still doesn’t connect then try rebooting your modem and router.

I suspect the game tries to keep or connect to a certain assigned and/or previous IP when I have my router set to throw random IPs every time a device connects. I’d need someone on the code dev team to confirm.

Since we're on the subject of not noticing LED's, I'm wondering if everyone realizes the guitar pick spinners also have RGB LED's illuminating them from the bracket that houses them. They have a great look to them when in action.

Quoted from ellips6:

It feels like there is a scew head or something in the center but really not sure.

Yes, there is a screw in the center of the label on the top side. You don’t have to puncture the label to tighten it, you can apply pressure with a thumb and usually it holds enough while you tighten it with the nut underneath the assembly below the playfield.

#24143 1 year ago

Yep, I ended up doing the loctite too and it’s held ever since. I took the mech out from under the playfield and was able to get to the end of the screw without removing the record sticker or taking the screw out through the top of it.

Quoted from PeterG:

but where is the code..

Have you not heard of the open Beta program? Plenty of updates happening there. No major issues. Seems like any other normal progressive series of code updates. Just ignore the beta moniker and treat it like a regular update and you should find more happiness.

#24158 1 year ago
Quoted from PanzerFreak:

GNR needs a couple big game changing updates like JJP did the with the Hobbit.

Completely agree with this.

Quoted from PanzerFreak:

Beta updates are great and all but they don't change the general perception about the games code as they are not official updates.

Quoted from PanzerFreak:

3 other GNR owners in a pinball league I'm in are saying similar things and one of them is now selling their game.

I think it's pretty lame to be in a position to own such an expensive and sophisticated game and not be aware of, or participate in the beta, and then use it as an excuse to hate on the game or sell it. It's great they're doing the beta updates, much better than nothing.

I see where you're coming from though.

Some people probably aren't aware. But if you're here in this thread, you're most likely aware. If you and we are aware, then we're all also likely able to tell people we know with the game who don't know about beta, and those who are complaining about lack of regular code updates, how to get in on it rather than letting them stew over it thinking there's nothing at all.

Quoted from javagrind888:

Beta combined with the scoring tweaks by Eskaybee turned this game around for me. I was about to sell it too

Case in point. Thanks.

Been awhile since I was up 50,000,000 with 4+ extra balls stacked and a 50,000,000 jackpot ready to collect, only to blow it all and then all 4 extra balls. Ended without breaking 50,000,000. Hit the punching bag *(next to Champion Pub) several times.

#24186 1 year ago

Today I just blew a 128,000,000 jackpot on Paradise City. Damnit.

#24187 1 year ago

Just checked Scorebit to see how my lost 128m jackpot would have ranked versus high scores and I have to call shenanigans on this 4116 character. All these great global players and none really top more than 300,000,000 once or twice after all this time then 4116 comes along and can do it consistently?

#24194 1 year ago

I don’t think there are any amount of settings that can be changed to enable that kind of scoring that often, so quickly. Otherwise we’d likely see more of those types of scores more consistently from many others and more of the top players on there.

#24198 1 year ago
Quoted from Vespula:

This is very suspect.

Fun while it lasted I suppose. Hopefully they can correct that example of obvious cheating, otherwise a lot of the fun factor and enjoyment of the app disappears. Giving it another go right now. For anyone who had issues connecting, I just turned on my location and it seems to be working better with connecting to my game.

#24199 1 year ago

New personal record 18,000,000 6-ball powerchord jackpot, didn’t know it could get that high. Kept hitting the bass ramp about 3-4x till I got ball 6 in there. 9m or so was my previous. Going back in for more.

#24202 1 year ago
Quoted from Eskaybee:

That’s bad ass! I forget, is there a high score table for highest powerchord jackpot?

Definitely caught me off guard, now I might have to keep hitting the bass ramp a little more often before I lock #6 if it's going to be that lucrative. I think GNR keeps track of the powerchord jackpots but I don't think I've seen it in Scorebit. I'm anxious to play again tonight.

My other games still get played but there hasn't been one guest who hasn't thought GNR was still one of the best or coolest games they've ever seen or played. A lot of times I wonder if I'll even get a turn to play it when I have people over and they keep it occupied. It definitely seems to be one of the most polarizing games of all time.

Just cleaned and waxed mine again earlier this week. No issues to report, except my record spinner finally came loose again.

#24272 1 year ago
Quoted from glpinball:

It's a drain monster despite some tweaking. If they had moved the left ramp back 4 inches or so I think that would've helped.

You mention drains and left ramp position - sounds like the air ball drains I used to get form hitting the edge(s) of the ramp and or the targets by the ramp. It made me hate that part of the game, it was so frustrating.

Was the airball deflector from Pin Monk one of the tweaks you tried? If not, it solved that issue for me well over 95% of the time it would happen.

#24286 1 year ago
Quoted from lemmings418:

My experience is a bit different.

Glad you shared it, it really helps present the game in a different perspective.

I tend to forget about the simple side of it and how quickly a novice (or anyone) can get into a song. This is due to me usually working on the perfect pre-song setup with boosters, ball locks and patches all in an effort to go for insanely high scoring.

I can't count how many times a song had to start before I was ready. I try and put them off as long as possible.

I appreciated reading your take on it. It also helps confirm how well-rounded this masterpiece of a game really is, for all audiences.

How to change your Jersey Jack Guns N' Roses pinball machine snubber rubber in under 5 minutes!!!

*** DISCLAIMER ***

USE EXTREME CAUTION. You risk serious damage to your playfield using this method as the metal guards around the scoop can dig into, and damage your playfield if you try to rotate them out of the way.

You can still get in there much faster and easier with this method, but instead of moving the metal guards, an 8mm ratcheting wrench or a small 8mm socket & ratchet will likely be the best approach for fastest completion and minimal risk of damage. - END OF DISCLAIMER.

After coming up with the relatively quick under 30 minute method that didn't require completely removing the upper playfield, I decided to go about it a different way.

All you need to do is remove 2 Philips head screws that hold the scoop, take the scoop out, and take off the 8mm nuts holding the snubber on with an 8mm ratcheting wrench or small 8mm socket.  Fast and easy!  Then just reassemble.

*** REMINDER - do not move the metal guides that hold the snubbers as I did in the video or you risk serious potential damage to your playfield!!!

#24468 1 year ago
Quoted from Mar3nBu:

The issue with that method is that when you push on the metal bracket holding the blue snubber it is rotating on the clear of the playfield.

Something to keep an eye on perhaps, but the factory scoop does provide clearance so the part holding the snubber doesn't slide across the playfield.

Quoted from romulusx:

It looks to me that there’s a tiny amount of clearance when you pivot metal over Cliffy protector?

Correct. Except that's the factory scoop assembly.

#24471 1 year ago
Quoted from Mar3nBu:

Not so much concerned with the end where the snubber is being held, but actually the end where it is still tethered to the playfield as I think that piece is directly against the playfield (basically where the posts are).

Very solid point. I have to agree, this 5 minute method is super, super high risk. After further consideration, and based on Mar3nBu's input, I probably would not recommend doing it this way. There's too much risk involved just to save about 20-30 minutes of time. This 5 minute method could still work to get in there if you don't move the metal guards around the scoop, and instead, use an 8mm socket or ratcheting wrench.

I added a disclaimer to the YouTube video & my post with the video above.

Worth80 Best JJP GNR departure eulogy ever?

#24489 1 year ago

Back to patches. Fender seems to be one of the first ones most people get. I always go for the gun, because it says it increases all patch scoring. So do we get points for each patch, and more points for them if you have the gun first, or does the gun increase the impact your patches have? The other thing about the gun is since I like playing AFD songs, when you add the rose it increases scoring on WTTJ and PC.

#24491 1 year ago

For highest points I go for gun, fender, Vater, duff skull, and franks drumsticks. After that I’ll go for the rose, if I’m low on balls I’ll go for the other sponsors. I think the sponsors help boost overall song score anyway plus the extra ball award. After all that then I go for candy, amp, lights and etc, sometimes I’ll throw in Appetite for destruction patch if that’s the album I’m playing in case that increases scoring in those songs.

#24493 1 year ago
Quoted from PinMonk:

Once I figured out that the rose disabled the magnet, I never went for the rose anymore.

Curious as to why. Unless I am missing something, the magnet ads basically zero value to the game unless you want it to grab and drop it down for an extra ball. But I usually just save extra balls and wait till multiball to grab them. So it’s basically useless to me.

#24496 1 year ago
Quoted from PinMonk:

I just enjoy the action of it grabbing the ball.

Fair point. So you doing that is not really strategy related, more of a preference.

Once in a blue moon I think it would have been helpful for me when I was down to one ball and an extra was sitting up there. Usually I don’t have too much trouble getting extras though.

Speaking of which, the other day I had 6+ extra’s sitting. New record for me. It didn’t help me break my high score though. Blew them all and ended up around 150,000,000 after losing 55,000,000 plus to a tilt on WTTJ.

#24498 1 year ago

Do you think the magnet helps you get more balls to drop down into the pops during frenzy in a song? I usually go through the spinner to get there, seems a little more direct and I feel like I can clear the balls from the flipper area faster with that shot than an orbit. But it might make sense to utilize the magnet to send some into the pops that way too.

#24500 1 year ago

I never really noticed it grab during frenzy either.

Spent a little time the last couple of days looking at foo fighter threads.
I think the funniest post was saying It’s the best rock pin ever lol

I enjoyed the complaints about no call-outs being done by members of the band and the color scheme.

Quoted from R_Coles:

There’s a large vocal contingent of brand loyal Stern fans on pinside

And judging by how aggressive they are, some of those fans could possibly even be planted or on the Stern payroll.

Quoted from CoolCatPinball:

Foo Fighters looks like a fun layout, BUT.... best rock pin ever?!! Put down the crack pipe my man.....

Well said. I'm off to go play my GNR now. Same thing I went to do after 5 minutes of the Foo twitch stream yesterday.

#24529 1 year ago
Quoted from Mattyk:

What I really like about GNR is that you are not constantly listening to songs during normal play. You get jam music and then songs start when decide to start them.

This guy gets it! I still don’t, and never will understand the appeal for the way any other music pin was done. Forget about whether or not you like the band or layout, GNR was such a great and well needed fresh take from the typical cut and paste rinse and repeat method.

And I am also not suggesting the other music pins suck or aren’t fun. But GNR was so much different in so many ways, none of which I think are bad.

#24531 1 year ago
Quoted from killborn:

The songs that were constantly playing were constantly interrupted. It was especially annoying when a song would get to the rockin part and abruptly stop because a mode would start.

Another fantastic point. I sort of feel bad for those who disagree and hate on GNR. Their loss, I suppose. Glad we’re all in good company here aside from the random trolls.

#24533 1 year ago
Quoted from Eskaybee:

I think TOOL would make a sweet pin.

Most definitely, especially with how intricate their music is. It would be epic but it would have to be JJP.

#24542 1 year ago
Quoted from TheBeefSupreme:

Main thing I was trying to get to is that I would have loved a mode to just play songs for leaderboards.

Most of the point of the game is to get to a song and to be able to play through the whole thing and get an encore or more than one encore.

I don’t play it to qualify album modes. They’re not bad but not worth a lot of points.

It’s really not difficult to get to a song, then you can interrupt the selection and pick the song you want to start with if you don’t like what they give you.

You can adjust a lot of the game settings to make it even faster to get to start a song but in all reality you want to build up the lights, pyro, crowd and amps first for more points. Plus try and lock as many balls as possible so you have a better chance at getting huge points and completing the songs. Throw in some choice patches for even larger points before you begin songs.

There’s plenty of talk in here about settings and adjustments and strategy so I’m confident if you just revisit what you’re doing a little bit that you’ll find this was the game you always wanted it to be. It’s really versatile.

#24543 1 year ago
Quoted from TheBeefSupreme:

They get the game beeping and booping around trying to qualify a song and have no idea what is going on, then the game ends.

I can see how it might be overwhelming at first. Start simple. Help guide them. They basically just need to qualify each band member to get to a song. To do that, it’s just a few shots in all the various places on the playfield. Take a look at it, it’s pretty simple to see where the members are and with the revolver chamber on the playfield you can see which ones are qualified or still need qualified.

If you and guests just looked it over together quick before playing and just do a quick crash course on where everything is, it will probably make a lot more sense and not overwhelm anyone as much.

As soon as you have all members you can start a song. No need to worry with locking balls or the booster multiballs or patches if you just want to get to the song as quick as possible (with or without changing settings to help make that happen even faster).

Once you get to that point then maybe introduce more strategy like patches, boosters and locked balls as you all progress as you and them get more comfortable and familiar with it.

Hope this helps.

Karl's Godfather stream

I think that stream did the game more justice than any video, teaser, trailer, or review / first look / opinion video I've seen on it so far. Happy to see you're in.

Latest GNR beta bumps up the bass by default (quite a bit, imho).

Thanks for confirming I wasn’t just hearing things differently. I actually dialed my sub down a little when I fired GNR up today because it was pretty obvious there was more bass with the latest beta.

My sound seems normal and consistent otherwise though.
