Played a few games on a LE this past weekend and was very impressed with this game. Lights, visuals, videos, sounds, ect all blew me away. By far the best immersion I have ever experienced in a game. Gameplay is a little slower to what Iā€™m used to and the flippers felt a tad soft, and I question the plunge design, but man was it fun to play. I think This game may be next on my list.

#14298 2 years ago
Quoted from greeneye:

JJP tends to have "mushy" flippers. Doesn't bother me really.
If you think that the gameplay was slow I would suggest a SE. They play faster and have less issues than the LE and CE models in regards to the playfield(s). The SE

JJP tends to have "mushy" flippers. Doesn't bother me really.

The speed Didnā€™t bother me - just noticed it was a little bit slower to what Iā€™m used to playing at home. I like variety in what I own and this game is badass and would be a great addition to my lineup.

Quoted from Hayfarmer:

I dont care if it's built or born. I just recieved a message from distributor that mine will ship tomorrow or Monday. First jjp, cant wait!!!

Hell yeah! Excited for you. Played it the past couple weekends and it definitely is a fun game. The immersion is awesome - Great playfield, Big screen, big sound, and incredible lighting. Seriously the whole package looks beautiful. I think youā€™ll love it. Plays a tad softer than my sterns if that makes any sense. Next in line for me to buy soon.

If all goes well tomorrow at the bank, I could very well be the owner of a NIB GNR LE. Fingers crossed.

Joining the club today - picking up my GNR LE in an hour from GAP. Gonna be a great day!

Did you let your Halloween go ?

Decided not to just yet - it Will be arriving next week and Iā€™m going to give it a shot. Iā€™m sure Iā€™ll have no problem selling it if it isnā€™t for me. Theme is 100% up my alley but I have some concerns on gameplay, which is more important (IMO).

#16935 2 years ago

Nothing like unboxing your brand new game and seeing that they forgot to pack the leg levelers and utility tool. Great CS so far as they are helping me out on a Saturday - Headed up to JJ to pick up the accessories now.

#16942 2 years ago

Nate at JJ is a great guy! Helped out a ton and went above and beyond.

Quoted from PinMonk:

You need to center the plastic part over the top of the LED strip (plastic inside the metal channel the LED strip is in) so the whole thing lights up. Yours looks like it's behind the strip.

Ok cool - Iā€™ll make an adjustment. Thanks!

#17043 2 years ago
Quoted from Hayfarmer:

Don't be tempted, do it. I'm on the fence on the topper, so any input helps. Also, is pinmonk working on an enhancement? Thought I read that,,,

Now that I have it setup correctly, Iā€™m happy with the JJP topper. It looks pretty nice now that the whole thing lights up. Yes it is basic, but also nice that it is only $200. Instructions could be better, but I had no issues wiring it up. The pic with the wire across the steel plate wasnā€™t from me. I simply took the light blue wire out of the guide clamp and fed it up the left side nice and neat. Looking forward to pinmonks mod for it as this topper could use a little added wow factor. But so far so good for only $200.
Now I just need to adjust the song scoop somehow - Iā€™m getting a lot of SDTM releases. Best score so far is 6.6m - loving this game!!!

Quick questionā€¦so When I hit my right orbit shot and upon the return down the left orbit the ball hits the left sling - any advice/tips to guide it so it hits the left flipper?

I figured bending the guide rail was the fix - is there a specific technique that most people use?

Hello all - need a little help please. Center scoop does not detect the ball/ score the shot when hit. Started happening right in the middle of the game just now. Ball only kicks out after a ball search. I see a little sensor on the left sideā€¦ I tried adjusting it up a little bit without force to make sure the ball hits it, but no luck. any tips?

Quoted from PinMonk:

It's just a roller switch that has either bent too much or one of the wires (or diode) ends on it has broken. Go into switch test mode and press that roller down and see if it registers. Make sure your solenoids aren't enabled or it will kick your finger if it IS working. IF the switch works in switch test mode, you just have to re-bend the arm so the ball will press it enough to register. If the switch DOES NOT work in test mode, you likely have a broken wire or diode leg.
Last possibility if the switch doesn't work is a bad switch.

Appreciate it - Thank you!

#20936 2 years ago

I pressed it down fully in the switch test and it doesnā€™t register. Safe to say I should reach out to JJP and ask for a new switch?

#20942 2 years ago

Just tried loosening the screws and it still doesnā€™t work. Thank you for all the guidance - I really appreciate it. Iā€™ll contact JJP tomorrow to get a new rollover switch

Quoted from glpinball:

Got the monkey mod installed on the topper from pinballmodz.com. looks pretty nice, just would wish for at least 6 more inches on the power wire.
[quoted image][quoted image][quoted image]

Just got mine as well and finished setting it up. Very happy with it and I had zero issues with any cable length. Just went down the left side behind the speaker and kept things neat. Directions had me a tad confused at first but Kyle got me back on track and the rest was easy. Make sure you have the proper height on the monkey for the best results. Great item!

Next is replacing my scoop switch - I will admit Iā€™m a tad intimidated when it involves me, a soldering iron, and a never performed task.

Had my left outlane switch stuck open this weekend and sent jjp an email. Steve replied on a Saturday night offering some tips. Made some tweaks and it is now working properly again. Always have had great service from JJP and it is appreciated.

#22361 1 year ago
Quoted from Blu:

Follow the below stepsā€¦
1. Select fender patch
2. Plunge for skill shot
3. Hit drum ramp or spinner to the left of scoop depending on flipper
4. Lock all the balls you can, which will probably result in light multi
5. Keep hitting ramps (youā€™ll probably get the patch here, and end up getting both keyboards)
6. Back down to 1 ball? Go after whatever band member is missing
7. Got every band member? Lock balls till you get six which will automatically start the song
8. Hit lit shots, and scoop when green. Dump the ball in the pops when you hear the band frenzy call out
9. Is jackpot above 2 million, and the scoop is green. Drain down to 1 ball and hit the scoop
10. Cash out
GnR is all about pushing your luck. Cash out when you are happy with the jackpot.
Once you can do 1-10 above, focus on the other pieces. Build the score boost by completing all 4 multiballs before starting the song. Complete other beneficial patches before going into the song. Keep the song going and get applause jackpot. Always dump the balls in the pops during band frenzy. Lock balls during the song to get a ball added and allow you to make the shots you need easier.
Youā€™ll get to the point where 20 mil, 60 mil, 100 mil arenā€™t even considered good games. Happy flipping

Thank you for these tips. Iā€™ve owned a LE since last fall and my best game is only 18m. Haha I still have never gotten all 6 up there yet - 5 is the best Iā€™ve done! Itā€™s a Great game!

Had a great time touring the plant and talking with Eric at Jersey Jack just now. Saw Steve walk by too as I was waiting in the lobby. Pittance to you guys I know, but I just had my best game and snagged a 33m jackpot on November Rain! It was a shit game and I was on my 3rd ball and went into a song. I had a solid jackpot of 14m but decided to push it one more time and I nailed the 2nd one! My new Grand Champion score is now 37.9m and Iā€™m thrilled. What a fun game!

You want to get the mini multiballs prior to starting a song if you want any shot at a decent score. Gotta be a fan of multiballs for this game.

So it finally happened to me....Bought a late Build 2021 LE NIB and just noticed my playfield pooling underneath the inner loop post by the Jam Target. Went to install a washer and the artwork completely chipped off leaving a nice 3/4" bare playfield when I unscrewed the post. Luckily the plastic washer completely covers it so it shouldn't spread. I suspect that it was tightened down to tightly at the plant. I play my games and do expect them to wear over time, but damn I haven't even had this one year. Oh well, shit happens I guess.

#22991 1 year ago
Quoted from PinMonk:

Did you get in on the half-price spare playfield sets? Good insurance to have for the future.

No i didn't. I wouldn't even think of attempting to do a playfield swap - way out of my league. Plus I shouldn't have to buy a spare playfield after spending 10,000+ on this game. I'll just accept the reality and go with the flow.

#23140 1 year ago

#23165 1 year ago
Quoted from pinballjah:

Has anyone installed one of these shooter lane protectors on their GnR? Thanks.[quoted image]

I ordered one but then it looked like a PITA to install (you have to take off the auto plunge mech) so I gave up on it for my GNR.

#23167 1 year ago
Quoted from Flipper_Ripper:

Really? Was going to purchase this, but if that's the case then I'm out.

Keep in mind that itā€™s amateur hour over here and I know my comfort zone when attempting to tweak my machines. My policy is If it ainā€™t broke donā€™t fix it - hence why I just donā€™t want to mess with the plunger area . With sterns itā€™s just 2 rail screws to install - simple as can be. A little more involved in this one. Could be easy, donā€™t knowā€¦

Just swapped out the 2 blue center scoop nubs for the first time after owning for a year and 1/2. Looked at the key posts and it said you have to take off the upper playfield. I thought that was quite odd and poor engineering if that was the case. But It can be done another way - I removed the steel scoop guide and then it took about an hour two get those 4 pia nuts out, many many small turns at the perfect angle - but I finally got it done. Very pleased.

#25074 1 year ago

Thanks for the video - I didnā€™t have the right size nut driver so I had to use a small wrench but this will help for next time.

#25079 1 year ago

Yeah just looked and I fucked up on the right side. Moved it out to get access and did chip the playfield. Wasnā€™t aware at the time. Live and learnā€¦donā€™t do what I did - do not move those. Thereā€™s pooling and chips under a couple posts anyway so it fits right in haha

#25090 1 year ago

Definitely put protectors in where need be - playfields were NOT fixed in later runs. Build date sept 2021 and I have the usual pooling/chipping around certain posts that many others have. itā€™s Beautiful and great game but the playfields are shit quality.

#25835 9 months ago
Quoted from Vespula:

I started to do that, and from what I could tell it was gonna scrape my playfield art swinging those metal snubber holders out to get to the nuts so I bailed.

That happened to me but it can be done without damage if you take your time - I just wasnā€™t thinking, rushed, and fucked up a small area on the right side. Hell I have a later build with pooling and chips under a couple posts anyway so it blends right in haha. Barely noticeable though.

#25845 9 months ago

To the impressive higher-scoring guys out there, what are the first 5 patches you go for? I need to change up my strategy as I'm not getting anywhere near some of the scores posted here - owned this game for almost 2 years now and the best i've ever done is 63 million and it felt like a fluke.

#25848 9 months ago
Quoted from Jaygee77:

My newest strategy is to first knock out Lights, Horn Hand, Firecracker, and Amp. Landing all four unlocks the ability to repeat multiballs without starting a song. This gives me the opportunity to qualify a bunch of songs, and really drive up the song level since I never risk draining a ball while multiball is in effect. After I get those four patches, I try to get Fender - Vater - Duff so that I can enter Band Frenzy easier within song mode.
Hope that helps!
(Edit - worth mentioning that I have an SE. Not sure if the strategy translates as well to LE/CE, since I can just hit the Duff ramp and not have to worry about the upper playfield to earn a patch letter.)

Thank you - appreciated - I will give this a shot.

#25851 9 months ago

Impressive information presented here - I appreciate the comments and will be trying these out next time I play. Thanks a bunch!

1 month later
#26013 8 months ago

Ive changed up my strategy recently- now from the get go, my main goal is to acquire lights, Firecracker, horn hand, and the amp patches in order to get unlimited multi-ball going and try to get as many going as possible before starting a song. Easier said than done for me. Iā€™ll then for the Gun next to help boost things as well. This is the only way I can seem to get good scoring during a song.

2 weeks later
#26089 7 months ago

After almost 2 years of owning this game - I Finally upped our Grand Champion score to 80.2 million last night - would have been 110 if I didnā€™t blow the last applause jackpot. Man that was a thrilling game! Now upping my goal to 100 million. Damn this a great game.

#26091 7 months ago

Definitely! I was on a pinball high for the rest of the night. So I First go for the unlimited multiballs (amp, lights, fire cracker, horn hand) and Try to spam the hell out of them for as long as possible to boost the song score prior to starting my first song. Last night I think I stared my first song with 174. Then I go for the gun followed by all the sponsors to boost the patches and extra ball opportunities. Then I go for the bra and panties to double my bonus. The color coding for patch sets on the action button really helps when things are frantic! So nice to finally kinda know what Iā€™m doing in this game after all this time haha!

#26093 7 months ago
Quoted from Vespula:

I'm going to focus on this patch strat and see what it gets me next time I play!
Now that you're hitting this new level, maybe add the T-shirt & poster patch set so the rock-it meter flipper decay is cut in half during a song so you can relax a bit, trap and focus more on completing the song objectives to get applause without jeopardizing not getting an encore.

Yeah give it a shot and let me know. Oooh didnā€™t know about that set. Cool Iā€™m on it - Thank you!

#26107 7 months ago

Right in the middle of a great game and my center scoop switch died again resulting in balls not ejecting and a down machine. Coil works in test mode - switch does not so itā€™s dead again. Same thing happened a year ago. Reached out to JJP again and am waiting for their reply. Anyone know the part #? - having a hard time finding it in the manual.

#26109 7 months ago

Thank you - I did see that in the manual, but didnā€™t know for sure if that was the one. Appreciated.

#26124 7 months ago

Anyone know how to attach the center scoop switch to the bracket? I have 2 screws and a rectangle spacerā€¦there is nothing that holds these screws in place!

#26126 7 months ago

Thank you! I was missing the small steel plate that it grabs on to. Found it lying in the cab. All set and back up and running. Appreciate your help!
Also want to mention a huge thank you to the guys at Jersey Jack - spoke with Eric Menuier and Steve in customer service today. They hooked me up with a new switch and since Iā€™m local they stashed it near their sign outside their facility since I wouldnā€™t be able to make it until after 5pm today. Eric also chatted with me this evening as he was playing pinball with his son to help me get back up and running as well. Their service is simply top tier and is greatly appreciated!

Just curious - what exactly are you hoping for with a new official GNR code update? All I see from you is complaints about lack of updates. Personally, I donā€™t think itā€™s bad at all in itsā€™ current state and the game is a hell of a lot of fun- especially the beta code. Is it a scoring issue or something?

#26167 7 months ago

Solid post and I agree with many aspects you mentioned. Scoring can be a tad unbalanced in certain areas - no big deal. Weā€™ll get there eventually.

Made some nice tweaks to the orbits and gave her a nice cleaning and my game is playing fast and smooth ever since. Once dialed in, this game is a beast and I donā€™t give a crap what the naysayers say.
Been improving my scoring lately too. My HS is now 115m and Iā€™m staring to get many games in the 40-70m range too which is an improvement for me.

Buddy and I have been playing a lot lately and he stated ā€œThis isnā€™t a game for simpletons!ā€ Loved hearing that and itā€™s damn true.

Took some time but After really learning the rule set and what the patches (and patch sets) do, this game really comes to life.

Major complaints I hear from many is too many bullshit multiballsā€¦. Never understood thatā€¦ I Love the mini multiballs and hereā€™s why - They tie directly into the theme and goal. Look at them as a warmup to the gig - get the patch set for unlimited and go balls out! Pounce on all of them as many times as you can before a song. Youā€™ll see huge scoring opportunities going into a song with a level of 145+ and thatā€™s where the fun begins! Then Talk about pressure - do I want the 58 million jackpot I just earned by having a crazy frenzy during my first song, or should I push it and go for more and possibly loose it all!? Then you also have the Encore for huge potential. Love that shit and it creates for under -pressure decision making!

Iā€™m not altering any rules in this game - I think it is great as is and judge my scoring accordingly. If I must, My only gripe is the rather low scoring in the slash solo but I think everything Else is just fine as is. Such an Awesome game.

Quoted from Silkenone:

But apart from the different art and the glitterā€¦

Could you tell me what you tweaked and how you went about it? Iā€™ve had a couple of attempts but not really made much difference. Ball still hits sling most of the time.

Yep hitting the slings was happening since day 1 for me. I (very gently) used a pliers with micro cloth for protection and bent out the very end of the left orbit rail. Slow and steady pressure and tested it until the ball hit the flipper 100% of the time. Even a little movement did a lot for me. Was a little nervous, but took my time and was a success.

Upped the flipper power a little bit too which helps. Cleaned, waxed, lubed up spinners and itā€™s playing great.

Also Added pinmonks GNR airball plastic piece which guides airballs back to the playfield in the lower left - this helps as this does happen every so often.

Only issue now is I need to replace the 2 screws that hold in the main scoop guide - those are now stripped out from making adjustments over time. Anyone know what size/threading I need to get?

My Spotlight servos did die, but I donā€™t know how to fix those yet or what to buyā€¦

Quoted from Hershy:

Any chance you can add images to explain what you did for us newbies (or just me if Iā€™m alone lol). Thanks

Hereā€™s some pics - very difficult to get a shot with the ramp return right there - but here is where I made the tweak.

Letā€™s be clear, Iā€™m no pro and am still learning - but this worked for me. Do at your own risk. Others mentioned you can move it by loosening from underneath the playfield too.

Needle nose pliers at the very end of the orbit rail - placed pliers just above the clear rubber thatā€™s right behind it with the cloth tightly wrapped around as to not scuff anything. Used just a hint of pressure to bend it slightly to the right a few times until I got it set perfectly. Makes a night and day difference and my orbits are fast and smooth.

Does anyone know the size for the 2 screws that hold the main center scoop guide? Mine are stripped from monthly tweaks to avoid SDTM shots and need replacements and I canā€™t seem to locate anything in the manual.

#26616 6 months ago

Thank you - must of missed that going through all those pages. 8-32 X 1/4 ms is what I believe I need.

Same - 1 of mine only moves up and down and the other doesnā€™t move at all. Still light up and look cool so just leaving it as is for now. No clue how to replace these servos - never tried. Heard itā€™s a PITA

Yeah I tried bumping up the flippers to 30, and they were way too strong - airballs aplenty. I think I am currently at 27 or 28 and have no problems making the ramps. Donā€™t remember what factory settings were, but bumping it up a little bit helped me. Still Not as snappy as sterns, but works fine for me.

Anyone know if there is a setting to have the start button steady on instead of blinking?

I mentioned it to Ken Cromwell when I was at Jersey Jack a couple months ago. Told him I need Jersey Jack to do a Floyd pin justice. He agreed that it would be an awesome theme.

Just ordered mine and will arrive on Saturday. GnR is one of my favorites and my only gripe is the mushy flippers - it will be great to see these improvements in action. Thanks for the reviews as well as install tips!

Quoted from Slaitster:

So, with the new I/O board is everyone turning down their flipper coils to default?

What are the default settings for the flippers? - canā€™t remember itā€™s been a while.

Thank you - Iā€™m going back to stock settings for one last day before I do the swap on Monday.

The Klipsch 12 definitely fills out the low end. You wonā€™t be disappointed.

Yeah I have a Klipsch 12 under each of my pins. Probably overkill, but I got them really cheap and I wanted each pin to have a dedicated sub to keep it clean. Subs are a must for music pins and I like the Klipsch 12 way more than the Polk 10 that many use. I use both auralex subwoofer isolation platforms as well as this one that is cheaper.

I took a little time to read up on the rules and have no problem understanding them and what you need to do to get higher scoring. Yes there are some scoring imbalances, but beyond that, I think the rules and coding is outstanding.

#27618 68 days ago

I like to collect the speaker, lights, firecracker, and horn hand patch set to get unlimited pre song multiballs. Then get the gun to boost them more. Then the logo to get the extra ball. If you can get those going and hit some shots, you can get into a song with at least a 125 value and see some huge scores as a result.

Very happy with the beta - Definitely much higher scoring now.
ā€œBiggest loserā€ is a great little add in!

#27725 53 days ago

I got nothing but encouragement from my buddies who played the new code tonight. They finally felt like they accomplished something for a change. Happy to see them regain interest in this game! Some just flip for fun - casual players who donā€™t know the detailed rules and they were tired of seeing abysmal song jackpots and overall scores prior to tonight.
I like where this is headed right now.

Overall, Iā€™d be happy to see my old 180 million grand champion score beat with the new amplified scoring. Been there for over a yearā€¦Keeps people playing to win!

Very cool it now shows the song level as you progress.

Built September 2021, and mine has a couple minor pooling issues. Covered up asap once I noticed, and Iā€™m ok with it. Game plays like a champ and have had no other major issues. JJ support has been fantastic when needed. Thumbs up!
