Joining the club end Thursday or Friday of next week, weather permitting, picking up a standard edition. I went from having no JJP games to getting 3 in the last few months, Dialed In, Wonka and now GNR.

#5428 3 years ago

Anyone with an SE, do you think there’s good location for these two amps? I had them installed on Metallica years ago and kept them after selling it just in case I had a use later. There wasn’t a good spot for them on my Aerosmith, so maybe they can be put to use on GNR.

Not sure if they could even be connected to use the LED in them, but still look good not lit up.

I have a subwoofer waiting for GNR. I buy them dirt cheap from the Goodwill store when I spot them. $8 for the KLH I bought last week.

Yard sale and flea market season was when I used to stock up on subwoofers, but now it's Goodwill for me. Usually find a high end, powered sub, once a month.

#5484 3 years ago

Yeah...I'm just connecting an external sub and rockin' out while playing pinball.

Thanks for confirming. I'm glad it is a bug and not an issue with the game. Are the known bugs listed anywhere?

Had it happen last night and I said it's likely already known and being addressed.

Not even 24 hours into ownership and made a nice mod to fill space on the stage.

The other speaker is taped to the right side, which was just a plastic with two exposed screw heads. Also serves the purpose of stopping fast balls coming up the ramp from sliding into the sidewall. This speaker overhang deflects any airballs right down and the right ramp feels really solid now.

#5669 3 years ago

Is there a setting to completely remove the song "This I Love" and never speak of it again?

WTF were they thinking adding that song instead of ANYTHING else?

It was literally the first song played on the first game I played. My wife came downstairs to check out the game and was like, "what the hell is this crap?" I had to agree and said it must be a song from Chinese Democracy. Not a good first impression at all.

#5688 3 years ago

Made a mod for the stage. Now the stage is looking fleshed out, nice effects with the mods and something to look at instead of ignore.

Also added LED strip around the translite for even lighting. Did the same with Dialed In and Wonka.

Is the translite mod lighting yours?

yeah. It’s an RGB LED “tv” light strip for $5 clearance at Walmart. Plugs into a USB port for power. Easy peasy.

Bally/Williams mirror blades do not fit. I have a set of gold mirror blades I have planned for The Shadow. Tested and the hole for the back box hinge is off enough to not fit. Needs to slide back a little further and does not have the clearance.

Too bad, because the gold blades look amazing.

Too bad, because the gold blades look amazing.

So I used a little bit of double sided tape because the bolt holes are off by a quarter of an inch due to the wood under the back box Getting in the way. They look great and I will keep them until I need them back for the shadow.

Quoted from screaminr:

Who did you get them off ?
Pinballdecals says they will fit .
The black and gold blades are way too expensive to buy if they don't fit .[quoted image]

I got them a few years ago during a Black Friday sale at the Pinball mirror website. Whoever made the gold mirror blades, that’s where I got them from. They are Bally Williams blades because I got it for shadow and I test fit in my empty Shadow cabinet and they fit fine.

The strip of wood that has the plastic channel screwed to it, the blades cannot slide between the end of that wood and the side wall. Could just be my game, maybe other cabinets have a slight gap on each side for the blades to slide in enough. Needs to slide back maybe 1/4” for the hole in the blades to align with the bolt hole in the cabinet wall.

The site’s photo does not show them installed on GNR either.

#5707 3 years ago
Quoted from pinballjah:

Cointaker has these specifically for JJP GnR. Luckily I didn't remove the mirror blades off of my Bally Dr Who to try them on the GnR.
https://cointaker.com/products/jersey-jack-mirror-blades

"FOR WONKA AND GNR, PLEASE ORDER THE BALLY/WMS REMAKES"

Wondering if they are saying the Bally/WMS will fit or if an alteration was made with the bolt hole placement?

I just took a couple pictures. You can see the mirror blade hitting that top piece of wood and if there was a slight gap on each side and the blade would be able to slide between there and line up with a hole. You can see the bolt hole and how much it’s off and one of those pictures.

Quoted from pinballjah:

Is that cross from Metallica?

Good eye, yup. When I had my Met Pro, I added the Rising Cross mod from the Premium and kept the stock cross. Happened to come across it (pun intended) when looking thru parts. Thought it would look better than the stock plastic with two exposed screw heads. Also helps keep balls settled down when flying around the ramp curve.

#5714 3 years ago

yeah, there's no clearance on my game to do that. Doesn't matter, double sided tape in 3 spots on each blade has them secure.

#5717 3 years ago
Quoted from Lermods:

are you able to take that plastic piece off and dremel off just enough to get the blades in there? Mine were tight to get between the channel and the side of the cabinet, but they did fit with no modification needed.

Yeah I could do that but I’m not going to hack up the game or even a single piece just for the blades. I’m happy with them installed with the high strength double sided tape and I might move them back to shadow when I put it all together again.

Not sure if this bug was reported or seen by anyone else yet. But just had a soft reboot on my SE after entering my GC name. Rebooted right after I entered my name....quick reboot like the Don't Cry reboot bug. I was having a great game, 16.2 million and would've been pissed if Don't Cry played and rebooted on me.

#5763 3 years ago

V1.13 is available to download...

#5772 3 years ago

My 1.13 installed successfully and finally could try out Don't Cry and see it's lightshow, etc. Very cool.

Anyone ever used a Stern shaker in a JJP game like this? My other 2 JJPs already have shakers, so only need to add one to GNR, but nice to save $60-$70.

Reached Desert Demolition twice since the update. The playfield monitor displayed a white screen with "Desert Demolition" in black text. Don't recall this before, but I think I've only reached that mode twice max.

Quoted from Leo13:

Do you know how to tighten the spinning record to stop it wobbling ?
height adjustment is ok, but I could not find how to stabilize it, so from time to time a ball get stuck at the edge of the spinning record and the playfield.

Adjusted mine yesterday because of the side to side wobble that started happening. Began to get stuck balls on the record because it dipped a little.

I removed the white plastic nut underneath and hand adjusted the height of the record, made sure it sat flush and tightened up with the white nut.

My wife and I didn’t like the white acrylic guitar over the left ramp on the standard edition. First of all it was too bright but there is a setting for the LED brightness so I cut that in half. But then it was still just boring white, so using a red paint marker, I painted the bottom edge of the acrylic. It removes with two nuts. When I make it to a store I am going to get a red plastic film to make it more red.

It’s already much more pleasing on the eye than the bare bright white even with the brightness turn down it wasn’t very attractive.

Thoughts on using some original Pinstadium lighting on an SE? Not sure if it will take away from some of the great lighting generated from the playfield. Has anyone tried Pinstadium on their SE? Thanks.

Have a set already? Try it out and post pics. I have a spare set, but no interest in testing them because I don't think it is worth my effort. Don't see the need, but wouldn't mind seeing the results.

Is there an option to disable the Scorbit QR code from being displayed on the screen? Finally had to disable Scorbit and wifi to get rid of the QR code. The game is in my house, I don't need or want a QR code plastered on my cool attract mode screen.

I set the Global high score anyway, so done with Scorbit until someone beats it.

Quoted from nicoy3k:

what do y’all have your flipper power at? This game plays so much better with powerful flippers but I want to make sure I’m not gonna to damage my game. Right now I am at +2 on each flipper, 18 on upper

I'm running stock settings on 1.14. Either I was getting better anyway, or the reduced power to the right flipper in the new code allows me to nail 4-5 loops in a row now.

Installed a shaker a few minutes ago. Drinking a beer first and trying out some games with it.

Black super bands on the flippers with these flame flipper decals I’ve had for years and no idea where I got them from. Tried them out for the hell of it and we really like the look. Always fun when I can use spare parts. Reinforces my hoarding.

Has anyone else done this. I have a set of usb leds and want to light up the border of the back glass and was wondering if there is a place to plug this into or do I have to tap into 5v somewhere?

My dialed in, Wonka and now guns and roses, all use 5V USB color LED strips I bought on clearance at Walmart for five dollars.

Wonka and Dialed in had an empty USB port on the computer that I used to power the strips for the back glass border. Guns and roses did not have an empty USB port so I used a small USB hub for power. Works and looks fantastic.

#6204 3 years ago
Quoted from Leo13:

Yes it does, it's in the daughter board near the tilt mechanism, next to the Bluetooth dongle.

I meant a free USB port on the computer to easily plug-in a 5V LED strip.

The recent magnet posts had me thinking that I haven’t noticed it working recently the other night. Forgot to test it after the game and didn’t remember until reading about it here.

Yup, magnet isn’t working, so I’ll put in a help ticket.

#6217 3 years ago
Quoted from DrJoe:

Yeah, I figured people were missing this maybe (the magnet not working). It's a problem for collecting extra balls, or Axl lanes, because there is no gate up there.

Yup, reminds me when I had a Sega Twister. Didn't even know there was a magnet up there that wasn't working until I read the owner thread. Actually sucked fixing it because the orbits were awesomely fun to nail over and over when I was dialed in. Then the magnet stopped the ball too much. haha

Tell you what, hitting the extra ball shot all the way from the left flipper, when the the record post is not in the way, is a fantastic shot.

New shooter rod.

And as far as any of the decals, I’m making do and just having some fun, nothing that can’t be redone. Did that rhyme? maybe. I currently am without a good color printer after mine bit the dust. The decal in the shooter housing is a $3 decal off ebay that I modified to fit the area. When my new printer arrives, I'll be able to print a final version all adjusted and whatever.

I’m having fun playing around with all the patches now. The other night I spent hours trying to get specific patches as practice. I like backhanding the left ramp so the ball returns to the GNR lane to help collect patches.

Going for and collecting the 4 equipment patches will earn an extra ball.

#6256 3 years ago

Patches aren’t easy on the SE. Maybe easier, but def not easy. Seems like the rollover switch hits increase, so not as simple as 3 rollovers to collect GNR like the first patch.

My first patch to get, since the magnet isn’t working, is the patch to spot AXL the rest of the game.

#6260 3 years ago
Quoted from DrJoe:

You need to use the lane change function as the ball enters the inlane to collect the patches. The switch requirements don't increase. Pay attention to lane change via the flippers and you'll see how it works.
Good thought on the collect Axl patch, which is very hard without a working magnet. JJP needs a fix for this ASAP.

I do use the lane changes but it did seem to me more switches were needed for subsequent patches. It does get confusing for me at time knowing what lane is active with so many lights and inserts. Def need to pay more attention.

So I paid more attention and I realized that the inlane switch sometimes was not registering a hit. Actually when I went into the switch test it was probably not registering half the time a ball was coming down fast from the ramp return.

The switch arm was bent slightly to the left so I straightened it and adjusted it so it sat higher and now it registers all the time. First game with the switch fixed I collected seven patches.

Can someone confirm that these mirror blades will fit without any modification on the SE model. Thanks.
https://cointaker.com/products/ballywms-remake-mirror-blades

Good luck. Maybe you have a little gap in the wood to slide them far enough back so they align with the bolt hole. My game had no gap in the wood, so I could not secure with the bolt and used 3 pieces of double sided tape to secure.

Go into the purchase expecting them to NOT be a perfect fit and you will not be disappointed.

#6316 3 years ago
Quoted from Lermods:

what do you mean you could not secure with the bolt? the ones I have go around the bolt and are only held on with a couple of screws in the bottom portion of the blades. Mine were marked BW remake.

I mean the hinge bolt, no room to line up and insert the bolt. Had to install with 3 pieces of double sided tape up top because at that point I'm not screwing into the wall for a part that doesn't fit correctly anyway.

#6325 3 years ago
Quoted from BrianBannon:

Joe, this may be my imagination, but it seems to me that on earlier code the magnet was working fine? I didn't notice the failure until I updated the code from 1.04.

When I traded for mine it was at 1.04 and had 135 games played. Magnet worked for me until I did an update to 1.12 (I think) a few days later.

#6334 3 years ago

I have a replacement part coming for my bad magnet, but I'm not installing it until there's an update addressing it (hopefully). As it is now, I love nailing orbits, so I'm fine with the magnet not stopping the ball to drop into the pops. Super flowy without the magnet.

Just get the AXL patch on your first ball to spot him the rest of the game. Or get the Fender patch to maybe add him when you get another band member. As far as when the ball is needed up in the lanes for an extra ball or AXL lanes, can still hit a soft orbit shot or straight up the center lane from the left flipper.

Quoted from BeeGee6533:

I own an LE but have played the SE. The SE plays faster with a bit more flow but seemed a bit one dimensional compared to the LE. I really enjoy the upper playfield and guitar headstock lock. Also the RGB hot rails on the LE vs. all white hot rails on the SE is a major difference. Personally, I can’t stand the SE cabinet and back box art. I think it looks hideous, lol. LE has the best art, IMO.

LOL and I made the trade for an SE because I thought it was the best art package.

Quoted from wcbrandes:

Anyone have the balls smack hard against the side of the inner cabinet wall before rolling down the drum sticks or is 7 layers of carnuaba wax my problem?

I taped a rubber Metallica cross I had to the blank plastic box above where the ball exits. On hard shots, it keeps the ball down and from gaining air and smacking into the wall.

#6642 3 years ago
Quoted from holminone:

Any buyers with buyers remorse or is this game the goat/bees knees/super fun as everyone seems to be experiencing?
Any of you dislike GNR before the purchase but now find yourself a fan? (My wife is not a fan... but I understand this pin can have a positive affect on people...)

My wife doesn't like the layout or gameplay that much. Took for at least 50 games to start enjoying the layout once I learned all the shots. Lots going on around the scoop, inner & outer loops area that can be a brickfest with balls just clustering and not going anywhere. After 100 games I was able to begin nailing 4 to 6 loops in a row and have the ball flowing everywhere.

#6701 3 years ago
Quoted from Mattyk:

I am seriously contemplating purchasing this pin. For those that have had it long enough to figure out the rules, is it still hard to figure out what to shoot for? As it has been brought up many times, with all the lights it seems like it’s difficult to know what to aim at.
Is there more to this pin than just flailing around in multi ball? It’s hard to find good YouTube videos because of the music copyright garbage

It gets much easier to learn what's going on and why when you have the game at home for sure. Knowing how & why the various 2-ball MBs start; then learning you want to have started them all before going into a song mode for the best scoring. Then all the patches to experiment with. I spent several nights only trying to collect patches. Lots of "side quests" you can focus on.

Should be an easy re-sell or trade if you buy it and find you want to move on.

Yup still waiting for it to appear as a wifi update.

#6760 3 years ago

My Wi-Fi update has been stuck here for 40 minutes now. I tried once prior and at the 15 minute mark I realized I don’t think this is working and I powered the game off and on. The game powered up still running 1.16. This is the second upgrade attempt.

1.18

#6765 3 years ago

I get the full yellow completion bar and then it remains there. A few minutes ago I turn the game off waited 30 seconds, powered it on and it booted to version 1.16.

I started the update a few minutes ago and again it is remaining at a full yellow bar on the installing screen like I showed above.

#6789 3 years ago

Starting to attempt the Wi-Fi upgrade right now. But doesn’t something look wrong here? Look at the version and the release date, it says 1.16 released yesterday then it goes down to list the 1.17 changes.

Wondering if it could actually be completing the update even though it never reboots on its own? But the version is named 1.16 instead of 1.17?

Played on the 1.17 code last night, reached Encore when collecting Applause jackpot for It's So Easy. All the balls drained, as expected, then the game just stayed chanting Encore, Encore.

I took this video after it had been stuck there for almost a minute. Finally a ball search happened, but it took a long time for the ball search to start.

Yes this is very important, I did not know that until a few days of ownership, now I just play whatever is ready. And that has really improved scoring.

#6915 3 years ago
Quoted from fnosm:

Is anyone having issues with collecting patches? It seems to me that the outlane lights and the backbox lights don't track progress on patches very well.

It can be tough at first to understand what lane is active and will add progress when the ball travels thru the lane. When going for patches, I'll trap up when possible and use the other flipper button have the AMP lane active. Then when I shoot and hopefully hit the left ramp, that flipper press made the GNR lane active and will make patch progress.

Quoted from pinchamp:

Yeah got 28M on live and let die... Encore...Encore...Encore!!! Stays on that and never ends. So that confirmed 1.16 sucks. Rolling back to 1.14 I guess. Sucks. I was having an epic game.

Had that happen on 1.17 when collecting Applause on It's So Easy.

Please try USB again. Start fresh. Download Full Install from US Mirror or EU Mirror ( try the one you didn't use before ). Use Unetbootin to install on your USB stick, try a different brand than your last attempt. 8GB to 16GB, with nothing else on it. Follow Full Install instructions carefully.

Still unable to update from 1.17 to 1.19 via USB. I have 3 USB sticks that are 8-16GB in size and tried them all. One is also the same USB stick I used to update Wonka. I tried two larger 64 and 128GB sticks and those boot to a screen asking about a boot device and to plug in a keyboard.

One the 8GB and 16GB sticks, I see the JJP logo appear on both screens for a few seconds, then it reboots, shows the logo, rinse and repeat.

I have updated 3 jjps in my life. If i insert the USB then power on it doesnt ever start up. If i do it already on and go to update via usb it will get through the recognition then when i hit start twice it goes super fast to the end and then sits there. THis morning I let it sit for 4 hours

Just for the heck of it, try to burn the ISO with Rufus and see if it works. I finally tried Rufus since I already had it installed and then my full USB install finally worked.

I found the soundbar to not be needed. Def needed an external subwoofer under the game - that made a HUGE improvement on the audio.

Soundbar, not so much for my ears. Was going to leave the soundbar installed for cosmetic reasons, but went in another direction for my topper.

Walmart sells Monster LED strips for 65" TVs that cost only $5. They are the perfect size for the monitor and full RGB with a remote. Nothing special at all is needed and I've done this mod myself on all my JJP games.

For those of you adding those LED TV strips from Walmart or Amazon for backglass lighting. Are they USB? If so, where are you plugging them in? I don’t see any open spots in my back box.

Usb lights, and I did not have an empty USB port on my GNR pc, so I plugged in a small USB port I had. Removed one usb cable, plugged in the hub and then reconnected the cable I unplugged and plugged in the light strip.

Great job and looks great. Don't see many modded SE either.

Thanks, still not finished with the topper. Need to make a base for it and then the monitor and the LED acrylics will be mounted flush and have a few cosmetic ideas for it.

I was trying another mounting spot for the backglass LEDs and they are too close mounted to the frame of the monitor. When I need to go back into the backbox, I'll move them further back where I had them before where they look smoother.
