Quoted from Vespula:

It's unusual for him not to reply. He's a ship shape kinda guy. Hope all is ok

I’ve found other threads here with similar issues over the past year or so, some taking as long as two months before shipping. I get it, life happens but beyond 30 days is a little excessive without communication to the buyer(s).

#30353 32 days ago

Got a shipping notification from Pin Monk! Looking forward to getting those flipper coolers installed. My guess is the guy is just overrun with orders and is busy.

Quoted from woleli:

Hi, Here is my Topper that I made for the JJP GNR LE more information in my shop on pinside: https://pinside.com/pinball/shops/shop/1647-vincent-mods/11725-new-topper-2024-for-jjp-pinball-guns-nroses-le

Looks wild! Very nice.

I sent a pm to PinMonk and got almost an instant reply. He wasn't getting notifications from my tags in my posts either which was odd to both of us. Maybe a site problem on the tagging notifications.
I'm not disagreeing with the communication time frame you pointed out, but he did tell me that there are some out of stock on certain kits which he's caught up on. I think the other is Zen kits which have been in stock. Either way I'm not probably getting it exactly right but just saying when I sent a direct message it was responsive. I'm obviously a big fan of him and his products so I was just trying to help facilitate by reaching out to him. I'm optimistically expecting you've already heard from him by now.

Thank you for looking out! I reached out to him via PM a few days ago since the order was about a month old asking for an update, and yesterday received a shipping notification with a nice note from him, so we're good!

I wouldn't hesitate to order from him again, but I would do so understanding not to hold my breath waiting for it to ship. (Which is acceptable)

His stuff is great, no doubt! His LE (red) badge frame continues to catch my eye on my pin as I work on and play it.

Today I discovered the housing on my left spotlight broke. Where the rear servo mounts to the housing snapped off through normal use, right where the two screws mount the servo to it. This was purchased new as an assembly from JJP a few months ago to replace the one with burned out servos that came with the machine. I was able to use the old housing I had kept and swapped servos to get it back up and running, but see the old housing is starting to crack where the new one broke, so it’s only a matter of time…
What’s a good source for the aftermarket 3D printed housings? Might as well assume it’s going to fail again. I should also get a few extra servos too, if anyone has a good source for those as well I’d appreciate a lead.

Spent some time today installing the PinWoofer PixlWav Backbox Speaker Light Kit in my LE. The order included very detailed and heavily illustrated instructions via email. I found it useful to print them out and followed it page by page as I performed the installation steps. It took some time, but wasn't difficult aside from mounting the newly LED populated speaker panel board in the back box. This step required the most care (and a helper, if available, I was able to do it alone) taking great care not to disturb the additional wiring and modules in the rear of the board. I had to repeat this step twice, just take it slow, and with care.
I couldn't be happier with the end result! This is my favorite mod thus far, and is the most visually obvious one too. It really looks like it came from the factory, it is that well integrated, and literally is as it's connected to the LEDs that run on both sides of the playfield so they are in sync with one another. You can tell a lot of time went into designing this mod, and in the instructions as well which is something I admire.
I spent more time than I should have making a short video about it to one of my favorite GN'R tunes for my own and perhaps your enjoyment, and/or if you're curious on how it looks on GN'R.

You can order them here: (There is a link posted a page or two back in this thread about a coupon code, I used that when I put the order in last week) https://pinwoofer.com/pixlwav-jersey-jack-pinball-backbox-speaker-light-kit/

Christmas came early! Anyone on the fence about the speaker lights mod, the photos and videos don’t do it justice. It’s killer. Really adds to the wow factor on an already amazing game.
I also replaced the 6 balls with new today, cleaned and waxed the playfield and replaced the two primary flipper rubbers, and cleaned the two others. Eventually rewarded myself with actually playing the game for an hour tonight!

If you play pinball half as good as you can make videos you're a pretty good player.

Thank you! I’d say my pinball skills are slightly above average but nothing amazing. It helped I grew up with Data East Jurassic Park and Star Wars and Williams No Fear. (Listed in order of my favorite of the three games)
Some of the JJP Guns scores I see posted by owners here blows my mind!

You will not be disappointed. I've heard and seen great thing with EJ, but have not had an opportunity to play one yet. JJPs are harder to find in the sea of Sterns at many of the arcades I've been to around here. I love how over the top these machines are!

Yes, the game arrives on Tuesday. I got it for a price I couldn’t refuse. I played a PE at CA Extreme and my wife and I enjoyed it. It felt a bit easy, but that’s OK as Godfather CE feels like the most brutal pin I own. I wouldn’t mind a few easier pins in the lineup that are just fun for friends and family.

Very nice! I’d imagine the CE to be beautiful. That’s my thoughts too, with some future pinball machines I plan on getting like Bride of Pinbot and DE Time Machine, simpler games compared to JJP Guns. A buddy of mine said there’s a pinball place near him with a JJP Wizard of Oz and that he didn’t like it and gravitated to other machines due to how difficult it was. It could also not be dialed in right. I’ve played WoZ before and loved it. I’ve played various machines on location that had SDTM issues and such that didn’t make playing them very fun but that’s something that just needs to be adjusted of course.

Yes, Godfather and WOZ are both frustrating games. They really punish you and are drain monsters. I have Godfather fully dialed in like butter and it still kicks my ass like nothing else except for maybe Black Knight or Led Zeppelin. Need lightning fast reflexes and lots of nudging for these games. JJP pins are so deep that only pin gods will ever complete them which is good and bad. Avatar CE looks gorgeous, but the boring callouts give me pause. Will wait and see how the code evolves on that one. Have fun on the JJP tour!

I have noticed that a little with my GN’R, even with the posts near the side drains moved optimally. Usually when I have an embarrassingly bad game it’s because of drains more or less out of my control. Then the next two games I’ll do incredibly well. I do like how it’s more challenging than other pins, especially for home use. It can be brutal to people who are not as experienced or have not played in a while. Fun game regardless! I play at least an hour every day so it goes pretty well.

So I finally got my topper light replacement. This one doesn't work either?

I'm so confused because my stock topper lights work fine. So I got out the old multimeter and tested every connection.

About 12 to 13 VDC at the plug. I have the same at the intermediate plug on the outlet of the cointaker topper mod.

So I tested the lights themselves and it reads about 13 VDC with no lights. I'm so damn confused as to why the lights aren't coming on. Do I need to do anything with the with little mode switches? They're supposed to change the flashing sequence and I have speed buttons. No combination or holding these down does anything. I measured the the little leads on the lights themselves and they also measure 12 VDC but no lights!!

I have a 12 VDC power supply I plug into the wall that fits these lights I have for some separate under cabinet lighting. I used it on the cointaker lights. The lights now light!!! 12 VDC everywhere.

Does anyone have any ideas?!? I'm so confused.

Not that I can see. Just topper light intensity. The stock topper has a similar LED strip and those light fine when they're plugged in.

The CoinTaker LED mod should just come on without the use of the integrated controller switch. I don't think I ever touched mine as I prefer the default that cycles through the various modes.

You have verified power out from the factory JJP topper molex connector with both your multimeter and your factory topper lighting. So it's not that.

You also verified the CoinTaker LED assembly lights up using the external power supply you had on hand, so it's not the CoinTaker LED assembly.

That leads me to believe it's something with the CoinTaker supplied adapter cable that connects the JJP factory molex cable to the CoinTaker LED assembly barrel connector. (This is what they forgot to send me with my original order)

Possible solution: The barrel connector on the adapter cable has two tiny screws in it that when tight, holds the two electrical wires retained with the metal contacts. You can easily remove the wires after loosening those screws, and reverse to reinstall. On the adapter, try reversing polarity (unscrew both wires, then plug them in in the opposite slots they were in originally) to see if that helps with everything plugged in and reinstalled. That is the only thing I can think of.

#30378 28 days ago

By the way, since I currently have two cointaker mods here until I return one, they both work (or don't work) in exactly the same way.

Even both barrel connectors. I'll try reversing polarity but I really don't think that's it.

#30379 28 days ago

Welp, Sweersa. Your troubleshooting skills are worthy. Reversing the polarity on the barrel connector worked.

Thanks!!!

#30380 28 days ago

One other interesting thing to note is since I have two barrel connectors, I had already reversed polarity on the new one to troubleshoot and it did nothing. Reversing polarity on the old one worked though.

Cointaker just sucks I guess, haha. Need to order two to cobble together working parts and I still need to dick with the wiring.

That is interesting. If you got one adaptor to work, and if everything else is equal, maybe the other one has an issue on the other end? After my subpar experience and your problems with them, I’m avoiding doing any business with them again. My brother had an issue with them as well a while back.

Quoted from Vespula:

That is understandable. I was pretty pissed when I recently found one of my newly replaced spotlight assemblies had broken (broken housing, servos were fine), and it was a new one from JJP I purchased a few months ago for $100. I could probably call/email them to get a replacement housing, but I'd rather acquire then install the superior aftermarket 3D printed ones and be done. I used cracked (they will break any day) parts from the original one with fried servos to get it working. It has lasted a dozen or more games so far...

The ball getting stuck behind one of the pop bumpers is annoying too, but the aftermarket 3D printed part is a decent remedy, and of course the scoop SDTM has a few viable fixes. I got mine fixed using doubled up washers (a total of 4) on the left side of the scoop. (facing it)

The most major issue is the playfield pooling and chipping around posts. I have some pooling even around where the "remedy" black plastic washers are. I've accepted it, and moved on and just run it.

#30386 27 days ago

My Pinball Monk coil cooling fans came in today, I also got his leg bolt washers, the thicker ones. They match the machine armor, and look great! I hope to have time this weekend to install the fans. I took some photos to share with the leg bolt washers installed. They are pretty inexpensive, and easy to install and I like their appearance, a lot more than I expected to.

My GnR has oinwoofer kit that the previous owner installed.

Quoted from Sweersa:

My Pinball Monk coil cooling fans came in today, I also got his leg bolt washers, the thicker ones. They match the machine armor, and look great! I hope to have time this weekend to install the fans. I took some photos to share with the leg bolt washers installed. They are pretty inexpensive, and easy to install and I like their appearance, a lot more than I expected to.

Back Alley Creations. He also did the sculpt work for JJP on this game. Matt does incredible work. He offers a handful of mods for this pinball machine and others.

What's the consensus on these colored washers? Only to protect the powder coat for those so inclined? I can't argue whether they look cool (they do) but why? I put em on a MTL PRO and they cracked straightaway. Very likely due to my propensity to treat pinball as a contact sport and the tilt bob has only the wire, no bob. Anyway - ? I suppose I'm answering my own question but still curious other thoughts.

edit: added pic.

I believe their intent is to protect the powder coat on the legs. Are they necessary? Probably not, but I figured why not? And they look nice and are inexpensive.
On yours that cracked, is that Pinball Monk’s washer? If so, I’m sure he will send you more if you chat with him about it. I know it’s part of the game, but I generally don’t tilt my game unless the ball is stuck. That’s just how I play though.

Hi all

Changed caps on i/o board approx 4 months ago - ball was rocketing up ramps everything rocked (coil stops and sleeves changed approx 5-6 months ago)

All of a sudden, ball barely making it up ramps - any thoughts on where to start?

Thanks

Howdy! I'm not well versed in this, as my JJP GN'R LE came with the upgraded I/O board. But have you visually inspected the board to ensure the caps are ok? I suppose if everything looks good, you could reseat all the connectors going to that board (with power off and machine unplugged) then power it back up to see if that helps.

Hopefully someone else will come along with other things to check out. I have not messed with the flippers much yet aside from changing out the rubbers. If both left and right are weak, it has to be something that is tied to both of them, rather than their individual assemblies, I'd imagine unless something happened to break both of them at the same time.

Do I need to do anything special changing out the flipper rubbers? I'm gonna do mine this weekend I think.

It's pretty simple, I pull from the skinny end, then lift up to relieve the tension then lift the rubber off of the flipper. I reverse to install. I have to be extra careful since my flippers have the graphics installed over the top, and I don't want the rubber to snag and lift and bend the graphics, should they catch them during removal. When installing new rubbers, you may need to press down a bit to fully seat them, the flippers have a ledge to tell when the new rubbers are fully seated. That's my process, I'm sure there are other ways to do it. I've replaced my rubbers twice now.

I may replace them with silicone the next time I have to do them, as they last significantly longer. (My mini flipper already had silicone, so I just cleaned it) I think Stern ships all their new pins with silicone. They look a little shiner than rubber, and are somewhat translucent. I'm not sure what, if any impact they have in playing performance over rubbers, if any. If someone made the blue snubber rubbers in silicone, I'd be all for that as that job is significantly more difficult...

I'm not looking forward to the snubbers.

It's not so bad, just take your time with it. When I do mine again, I'll do both sides with the upper playfield off.

#30398 25 days ago

Or you could do what I do and just play with them missing. Just replace your balls more often and make more accurate shots right down the middle. Haha

Tonight, I actually noticed my snubber rubber metal mounting brackets (where the snubber rubbers mount) are getting a bit beat up, with minor deformation of the metal facing where the ball impacts. (And that's with good snubbers in place) I don't plan on replacing them anytime soon, but I ordered a pair of them tonight from Pinball Life. They have discounts on their JJP and other parts. I definitely took advantage of that with extra balls, etc. for later on down the road.

This is one reason why I went back and had injection molded custom nylon washers made that were thicker and slightly wider (PLUSH) to provide better coverage of the bolt head, too. You can see the difference comparing the washer in your pic to the ones Sweersa posted. The PLUSH ones he installed more fully embrace the bolt head and are thicker.

I have been clearancing the small smaller standard nylon ones I started with at half price and removing colors as I run out of standards. I've never seen any of mine (standard or PLUSH) break like that, but if that's one of mine, PM me and I'll upgrade you to a PLUSH set.
