This is what I'm rolling the dice on. People seem to say if you're a GnR fan, you'll love it. And I'm a huge fan. So here we go! I'm gonna have to buy the Herculease upgrade for sure. It already comes with a topper so I'm set there.

#29056 81 days ago

Ok, so diving back into the settings menu, it appears “Directors Cut” has been around since once WOZ/DI, and while it doesn’t specify, I’m reading it cuts down on the ball saves. This might help with Multiball fatigue.
IMG_3534 (resized).jpegIMG_3534 (resized).jpeg

In addition to the Directors Cut presets, there is “Competition Mode” and “Pindemption(TM) Rules” which apparently have also been around for a bit as well (I never noticed them prior).

I’m going to spend some time tomorrow setting everything back to default and updating the sheet for the new 3.02/3.03 code game settings. I think now that the scoring is much more balanced, I’m going to strictly go for a column of settings to try and limit the multiball chaos. Again, I do know well the game was intended for non-stop multiball and limiting this will make the scoring lower, but the scores are much more boosted now anyway. I’m looking to make the game more fun & enjoyable, which for me is spreading out the MB Madness and randomness so you can concentrate finishing other objectives (ie patches, Tour, Etc) without being interrupted by a random wind blowing and Launching a Multiball storm

you won't be dissapointed. Get it dialed in right in your home and you are gonna love the game when you click with the ruleset. I love mine and it aint leaving but i might be biased because of my autographed apron. For me this game never gets old with al the great stuff thats in it. Everyone once in a while a callout surprises me and i swear its a new to me that is haven't heard before. Enjoy your game when it arrives

Does anybody know what the difference is between Game Play Type = “Balls in reserve” vs “Balls in play” ?

I'm not completely sure, but that might have to do with when your extra balls are played. Jjp style is to play them at the very end, whereas Stern style is to play them immediately after drain. It only makes a difference in multiplayer.

Ah ok. If that’s the case I noticed this on Elton John over the weekend. It’s actually a really anwesome option to have the extra balls after the last ball. It keeps the main game flowing between players (if you have 2 plus on the game) and if 1 player killed it, the rest of us losers can wander off and play another game while they continue to blow up the game after we’re done with ours.

#29061 80 days ago

Confirmed. Here is the changelog text output

=== Core Code
+ Reserve ball play. This is a new paradigm for playing pinball games where
one does not have a concept of a ball-in-play (i.e. ball 1, ball 2, etc.),
but rather has balls remaining, such as lives in a video game.
- This gives us 2 main abilities:
- 1. Players can join in at any time now, even your last ball.
- 2. Extra balls are not played immediately. Rather, players continue to
cycle turns as long as a player has balls to play. This way, a player
doesn't monopolize a game with his co-players with 4 extra balls
stacked at once, rather they are basically played at the end of the
game. If multiple players get extra balls, they continue to switch
off as if the game were a longer game.
+ Ball Play Type adjustment. Can be set for "BALLS IN PLAY" or "BALLS IN
RESERVE". The default is currently BALLS IN PLAY (the traditional way of
playing pinball).

Ok, so after a review of the latest code (3.02) game settings, I started from scratch to come up with some settings to suppress/limit the multi-ball madness, but at the same time keep the game fun. After a several tests, I present you “Chaka’s Weak Multiball Potion” game settings.

https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1Z8RVDc6Gwc6aXQHjjXT2V14pwRUKUqg7ZwE_mmcITI4/htmlview#gid=0

It’s not a cure for the Multiball blues, but it does suppress a lot of the MB madness, while still being able to complete and score in song modes.

The idea here was to keep the game fun while minimizing the constant 6 ball chaos flying around. Will this make getting some of the objectives more difficult like the boosters? Yes, but only slightly. I added a couple extra hits on each booster qualifier plus no stacking so you won’t be accidentally launching them. In return I’ve minimized the booster jackpot qualifiers and maximized the booster jackpot bonuses for higher payoffs. I’ve minimized the song mode ball save timers, so endless balls don’t keep kicking back out into play. Now you can choose how many balls you want to keep in play so you can concentrate on making the shots.

I’ve also made any attempt at getting extra balls easier. These are gonna be needed to make it to NSFTD. EB is always lit when you hit the pops, Coma is set on easy to get the ball back, Slash Solo Victory lap for EB is 1, and in System Settings, the Other Awards is set to Extra Ball (instead of Free Game). Bottom lane bonus difficulty is minimal to light song collect bonus extra ball. GNR mystery is easier to spot.

Superlock Timeout is Zero. This keeps multiballs you shoot into the lock out of the way while still rewarding you the Powerchord Jackpot when all other balls in play drain.

There’s no rock meter punishment for cradling. I may turn this back on sometime later but only after I can make it to NSFTD. While this adds a challenge to the game, keeping you on your toes, it’s just one extra challenge I’ve set aside for now until I can progress to the end. Then I’ll dial it back up later. If you like this feature, by all means leave it on.

I’ve lit 1 lock at start (it doesn’t mean you get a free lock), it’s just lit. What this does is drops the diverter on game launch so you can start putting balls in the lock immediately.

Patch rewards are maxed out. More of an incentive to use them wisely

Mini Wizards are set easier, but they’re still not easy.

After playing several games with these settings, some with a a couple balls in the lock and some with it loaded. I found that even if the song multiballs start out heavy, most of the time I ended up playing with 2 or 3 balls making it much easier to see the shots needed, and a much more enjoyable experience. It felt like a more controlled Multiball experience.

But hey, try it out and tell me what you think. It’s free and you have nothing to lose. All feedback is welcome (except Rolls-Royce because I still need to beat his score )

And with that, I give you my 30/30 guarantee. You are guaranteed to have fun and enjoy settings for 30 seconds or 30 feet, whatever comes first.

Go Play Pinball!

This is accurate. Somewhere way back this was asked and confirmed by JJP.

Well you could always install the coma lock then make a manual Jerry-rigged button to kick them out?

Thanks for your time and effort here!!!

This is my first time trying to update the settings in this way. I see your chart has 3 different user names. I assume the one to try and start with is yours? Chaka’s Shamele?

Thanks!!

Yup! I filled in the defaults last time but I figured it would be easier to just see what needs to be changed. I have the defaults for 3.02 in the column. To the left for reference, but the game also marks the defaults as green in case you want to set them back easily

Got a call from a buddy with a G&R CE who says that when he turns it on, he gets an electronic buzz and it doesn't boot. Before I dive into this too much, is this a known issue with a known solution? Will get more information from him if needed but I didn't know if this was common and "just reseat x".

Thanks!

I believe those will eventually wear the cabinet from nudging. I think the current way is to use/leave them on the metal kickouts that keep the legs from rubbing against the cabinet. I can say I used to use those plastic/nylon ones and they do mess with cabinet art. So I only use the metal kickouts now

Anyone that can help out and know where the special award is in settings to set Special to award extra ball?
... The one when the GnR Logo patch becomes available so that the right outlane lights for extra ball.
...guess it's in game settings, awards maybe? Special?

Not sure if this ever got answered, but it's under System Settings, if you scroll all the way to the bottom, you'll see it at the second row from the top. Special Award is right below March Percentage.

No.. I asked the same thing when I got mine and the resounding answer was remove them. You're not going to scratch and it's too unstable without. Meant to be bolted on there... and the floor.

Now, I only made four or so shots and I got 300k out of the mode, but at least I knocked Eric off the high score board

Well lighting struck twice!
I wasn't happy with not finishing the final mode, so this morning I went back for it and actually beat it!
It was still only worth 410k (JJP please balance this scoring too )

Actually cleared all the high scores before starting this game, so I got a lot to show for it. Happy flipping!

Did you happen to catch HOW you scored points during NSFTD mode? I've played it maybe a dozen times, and I think my high score on that mode is something ridiculously small like 120,000 (I think it starts you with 100,000 just for getting to it). I've never actually beaten it - and I think my personal best is collecting only 3 instruments, perhaps 4 at the most. For what it's worth, I'm on an SE.

#29094 77 days ago

Great price for someone that wants an LE. Frankly don't understand it. I have a very good lineup of machines and continue to get drawn to my GnR. I guess that is the cool thing about pinball, you just never know what is going to click with certain peeps. I guess me loving their music is a big piece of the puzzle.

I really had no idea how the scoring worked. Every time I looked up and saw the characters at the bottom of the screen they all had zeros around them. Now I need to get back to that mode and figure it out

I really like that beating the game gets you right at about 1BIL. It’s on par with Indiana Jones. Would be nice if there’s a big payoff for finishing the Wizard mode & getting all the objectives (like 100MIL or so)

Bad News: Got close only after a couple games with the new code & settings. Your score isn’t safe
