Is the best way to do this with the game powered on, if the existing battery is still ok? I gather this would be easier than having to plug a keyboard in ?
Cheers

Yes , change the battery with the game turned on .
Quoted from screaminr:I'm assuming it's the game levels , but then do you have to turn the game off and on again , to reset it .

thanks both - I tried setting the machine to default, power off, power on, set the machine to custom, power off, power on and no change. I've now tried playing it with the equaliser on default and custom and both sound terrible. Turning down the bass on the amp quite substantially doesn't seem to help either.
I'm paranoid the beta software equaliser reset led to my speakers being damaged. but when I get some more time I guess I'll try dialling it all in from scratch. At the moment it feels like there is no sweet spot where the bass sounds good before the speaker sound like they are toping out - gulp!

Thought the same thing. Same experience trying to dial it in. Thought speakers blown. Still haven't fixed it. I was tempted to go to 1.25 but didn't want to hassle. I'll play Rush instead or turn down GNR volume - a lot.
JJP said they have fixed it and a beta update is coming very soon. This is risk of beta, no biggie. Not sure how fooflighter fixed his. I couldn't get anything to work either. Set all my GNR sound settings to default. Fiddled with the equalizer, flat, custom, And it didn't make a difference The sound is all out of whack and distorted.

I'm happy to wait for the official release but even then , they won't Factor in people with pin woofer .
( if that makes any difference)

It worked fine when they introduced the EQ originally, just something happened during the last beta or 2.. not sure when it happened.

I wonder if you got out of beta and went back to the official code , if that would fix the issue .

It would because the EQ was introduced in beta.. b22 maybe. JJP is at b33 now and wasn't until recently with a later update that I started experiencing this issue.
I am not in the mood to backup my settings, download and install 1.25 with USB, reload my settings... I will just turn volume down for now.. I was told it's been fixed already, the new beta release is "Very soon"

Quoted from screaminr:I guess we'll find out , I'm happy for you to be the guinea pig
Yep! Sit back and enjoy the game. I got this, mate!
Although, I don't hear everyone on beta mentioning this issue, so I think there is something you had to do to unlock this "feature". Like a chain of events, install b22 with EQ, adjust and play with EQ, adjust settings in diag for pinwoofer, then install later b33, for example, and that jacked the settings if I did some previous altering...
Maybe if I never played with the EQ, I would have never got the bug. Dunno, but the fact fooflighter got his fixed but messing with those settings and rebooting makes me think somehow he got a magic combination of successfully resetting everything to get the levels in the software all back where they are supposed to be relative to what the software says on the EQ and system settings. Just a hunch. I can't make sense of it on my pin and so I think it's same problem but different solutions per pin based on where the settings were at the time the bug happened.
I definitely have the sound issue as described since the most recent beta. Had to redo the EQ but there’s still something amiss.
Just my observation w/latest beta (which is kind of old now).
The "default" flat curve has A LOT MORE bass than before -- even though it's flat.
If you are having trouble with a 3rd party bass product, perhaps (1) you don't need it anymore or (2) you should turn the bass 6 db or more DOWN in the EQ.

This makes sense. I'll try to drop the bass ranges down drastically and see if it sounds more like it was before.
My cabinet woofer distorts easily currently and sub is almost unusable at any volume.
I don't know how high up the frequency range I need to go because I get a lot of distortion on the skill shot, which I think has some mid-range in it too. For a while that skill shot was my adjustment metric, if I can make the skill shot sound good then I'm in range. But I quickly found that the rest of the game sounds like crap So the volume just has to stay very low with the bass volumes very low also... As I wait for the beta release.

I forgot to mention, I also reverted back to default factory code then reinstalled the beta - that was probably what fixed my issue on the equalizer. As others have mentioned the new settings were bass heavy and I toned them down dfrom my previous scooped mids curve

I agree, this was the conclusion I also reached. I forgot I did end up adjusting my external sub a little after I readjusted the EQ.
It’s still not as good as it was but it’s acceptable until I decide I’m ready to spend more time adjusting it further.

Ah!! I agree. Thanks this is very helpful. Thx.
If the "very soon to be released beta" doesn't fix for the people in this situation, then everyone on the beta train that does have this issue may have to go through this downgrade then upgrade process once. We'll see.
Just wanna say a big thanks to Super Skill Shot Shooters- unsure if he is on here but the products and service I received are fantastic
Goodbye to that silly yellow start button.

The holes around the edge in Lior mod are just aesthetic to match the single drum next to it which does light.

I’ve tried so many times to get a score like you did on Estranged and I think my best might be 50,000,000 or so on it.
Hearing others talk about getting or losing a big jackpot or even mentioning this game makes me want to play it. We’ve had some incredibly nice weather this spring though so my pinball time has been very limited lately. I keep waiting for that rainy day but we haven’t had much.
At the moment, GNR has a bunch of camera and other gear around it as I am finally preparing to attempt some streaming. Hopefully we get some rain soon so I have my excuse to finish up. I still have a lot to dial in with the stream software and layout of the screen and cameras.

That sounds awesome man! My friends tell me I should stream but I’m not sure it’s for me. Maybe in the future I’ll finally get the equipment together that’s needed to stream and give it a try. I’ll definitely jump in your stream once you go live since I love a good GnR stream. I haven’t played my GnR in a while because I just shuffled my lineup a bit and have a few new games that have been getting all my attention lately…but I hear GnR calling.

That's what I kept hearing from people too, "why don't you stream", "you should stream", stuff like that. Getting the equipment wasn't a big deal. Getting the setup figured out so camera angles are good, wires and stands out of the way, decent lighting, and etc. is a whole different task. I'm almost done with that. Then there's the amount of zoom, lighting, white balance & etc. to dial in. After that I still have to set up the stream software, and get it all connected to what? YouTube, Twitch, both of those, and/or others? Who knows. I still have to figure all that out.
I hope after I finally get it all dialed in everywhere that moving it to a different machine only requires a few minor camera angle adjustments.
I keep thinking about Estranged. I know I've had the patch setup that worked for big points on other songs, 6 balls locked & plenty of boosters but still no big points on it. I wish I could remember what song levels I am getting when I get to that song.
Do you remember at all if you played any other Use Your Illusion II songs prior to Estranged? I think when you play a song on an album it boosts your album score and I think the album score also helps boost the song level on other songs from the same album. Playing something else (and doing half decent) from that album is about the only thing I didn't do prior to going into Estranged.

I’m pretty sure I was maxed out on song level or close 190+ but it was the only song I played on that album. I probably had most of the patches or close to all. I do remember that I was in a good zone and progressed through a lot of the song waves/levels which is important because the jackpots grow higher and higher as you progress. That’s why I think Estranged has the potential of scoring crazy points since it has a lot of the easier shots to hit during the song and that helps blow through the song waves/levels. I think the main thing to try and do is hit the scoop as early and often when it’s lit to get to the next wave/level during ball save.

Download OBS. It integrates with twitch very easily and you could set up all your different cameras in one view. I'm not a streamer but I participated in the Godzilla challenge tournament and you had to stream your entries, I used OBS to do it. You can then download your videos from twitch and upload them to YouTube. That's what a lot of streamers do.

Wow, thanks for all that! I actually got OBS long before I got the extra cameras and gear. And that’s what I’ve been working on setting up. I’m have to add 1 more camera yet, the other 3 are ready. Then hopefully get the screen laid out for the stream with the camera views and some graphics. And hopefully I can save that setup and just move from game to game.
My only thing with Twitch is I don’t really expect any viewers while I stream. Hopefully that’s okay with Twitch, because it makes sense to try it there then upload to YouTube like you mentioned. I was more doing it just so there’s eventually a reference on YouTube for people to refer to anytime for possible tips, strategies and of course, hopefully seeing some nice scores and wizard modes.
Been working on getting a stream setup for some time also. Yeah, getting the gear is easy. Getting it all setup without wires everywhere, getting white balance dialed in, sound levels proper, etc is what has been holding me back- it’s quite daunting. I’m hopeful to start streaming though in the next few weeks, with JJP games (GNR, Toy Story and Godfather (when my CE lands)).
Here is a helpful page from Deadflip I used a while back when I was setting up a stream. Covers from budget to more expensive rigs as well as setting things up.

Let’s face it. GNR and JJP games in general, are a pain in the ass to maintain and keep playing well. But lemme tell ya; steep pitch, drooped flippers, hard settings w/increased album scoring, powerchord hold, applause timer adjustment…this game is so freakin bad ass. One of my favorites. Happy 3-day weekend gunners, enjoy.

Not to mention a relative bargain on the secondary market right now.

What kind of pitch are we talking here?!
Quoted from atg1469:What kind of pitch are we talking here?!
I’m at around 7.5 but I’d say at least 7. 8 is probably overkill. 7.5 is pretty good action and less side to side float.
Quoted from atg1469:What kind of pitch are we talking here?!
I’m actually not that steep. I think around 7deg. The other big improvement for my game was replacing the flipper bushings with precision flippers. It’s a huge difference. I didn’t install the precision flippers (couldn’t get them to work), but the bushings was a huge difference. I went from +3 flipper power to -1.

Most probably. I always do. Twenty years coming up on this one in December
