Hey all, I searched the thread but could not find an answer to an issue we're having; GnR won't allow a song to start? When a song is qualified (screen says Start The Song), the four inserts below the scoop light up as expected, but then a few seconds later they go out except for the "song" insert. Then, when you shoot the scoop, the ball just ejects out? It's like the song mode is canceled? This will continue to repeat. Only other thing odd is occasionally we're getting auto plunges at the start of a ball. And I've noticed each time the pin boots it says "calibrating sensors" in the lower left, but maybe that's normal and I just never noticed it before? I checked the switch test and nothing is stuck on. Any suggestions? Thanks!

Quoted from Eskaybee:

Happy weekend Gunners! You want balance? We’ve had it all along. Huge shout out and thanks to MikeS for working together with this.
You want big album mode scores, we got it. You want minimized multiballs, we got it! GNR settings are mostly set to extra easy, So let the settings tuning begin! - feel free to provide feedback or input as not all of this is 100% accurate.
• album mode scoring - change adjustment “time needed to qualify album”: default is 180 secs. Change to 30 secs.
What’s this do? This will substantially increase your album mode score level. I just played a live and let die encore followed by a partial November rain and cashed out. My desert demolition mode level was 71 and I didn’t have all 4 album patches (just the UYI1)
• booster multiball difficulty: increase lights, crowd, and pyro difficulty +1.
What’s this do? Reduces the amount of multiballs, especially the sporadic rando ones. This will increase difficulty of the game, especially pyro and crowd multiball.
• max ball song saver: default is 60. Recommend lowering to 30.
• Applause time: default is 15. Recommend increasing to 30.
What’s this do? This makes up for substantially reducing the max ball saver. This will light applause jackpot sooner cutting down ball times and giving better chances of hitting it to move on.
GNR mystery spellout: default is 8. Recommend changing to 10 to reduce random mystery songs.
• super lockout timer: default is 15. Recommend increasing to 20-25
What’s this do? Increases the timer of how long balls stay locked in the powerchord before releasing. This will allow for more planting of balls reducing the amount of multiball chaos in front of flippers. Tip: new locked balls or hitting the Duff scoop will reset the timer.
• Individual songs difficulty: there’s a difficulty setting for each song, well most - night train shows up twice (bug?) and one or two aren’t there. These are default to 1, extra easy, out of about 8 (hardest).
Recommendation: i found the sweet spot to be between 2-4 - with most at 2. I’ve played with all sorts of settings and I did increase the higher scoring songs (estranged mainly) to 7 or 8.
What’s this do? It effects multiple aspects. One; it increases the # of shots to light the green scoop and move to the next wave. As such, this decreases your shot values because you’ll be leveling up the song slower so you’re final song jackpot will be lower. At difficulty 2-3 it won’t affect it too much. It’s at the higher 4+ difficulty that it really affects the jackpot values.
Additionally, this will reduce multiball chaos as you won’t be adding balls as often. I’ve tried the difficulty near max and found that it significantly slows the game down too much and found just a small bump in difficulty gave a good balance of scoring and challenge while keeping it fun.
Enjoy mofo’s!

I found Lights and Pyro multiwall difficulty however I can not for the life of me find where to raise the Crowd multiball difficulty I do not see a crowd multiball specific setting option.

Quoted from Mattyk:

One time I played with the settings I think for awarding an extra ball for obtaining X number of patches (or gnr lane completions, can’t remember what it was called) and saw that a few patches disappeared. Fender was one of them. I changed the setting back and they came back. Definitely a bug
Not sure if this pertains to you

Thank you!! That’s gotta be it. I did Jack w the setting yesterday. Specifically xtra ball. I will change it back.
I am on beta code.

Just curious. Where does everyone have their xtra ball set? My best score in this game is 52mil. I have trouble breaking the 10min mark.
I guess I just suck.

Calibrating message at boot is totally normal.

It sounds like maybe you have a flaky shooter lane switch. Does the green light at the song start scoop light up?

Thank you for the reminder. And thank you for your work and taking the time to post these as I am LOVING it!!!!!!! Its way less frantic and I am now able to slow down and understand what's going on.

#24807 6 months ago

I normally go Pinwoofer with my pins, however this is my first music pin so I figure I would ask the community which speaker brand(if you updated) did you go with?

#24809 6 months ago
Quoted from ConstantDrain:

I guess I just suck.

What's your normal strategy?
So do you stack and collect mb to help increase your song value prior to starting a song? Extra balls are key anytime.
Collect patches that help scoring during songs
Try Pick easier songs and take the 15 points hit to your song value. If you have patches for a specific song that can help.
Work on collecting band members and locking balls prior to song. If you can start song by locking 6 balls then all the better.
During song, work to get band frenzy going and then feed the pops over and over.

Disclaimer I don't think I suck but my GC is 71 million. And the majority of those points came from collecting 66 million on out ta get me. Haven't had a game like that since. Breaking 10 mil pretty regularly can do... 20+ is a great game. 30 plus rare

Yes, the song start scoop lights up green for a few seconds, then turns off.

Quoted from arzoo:

Have you gone into switch test mode to see if any of the switches are red (error)? You might have a switch registering from vibration. To test that, glass off, pull the white post inside the coin door left inside edge, then go into the switch test menu and hit the playfield firmly at a few places with open palm or fist and see if that vibration triggers switches (except the sensor ones like keyboard, which will trigger from your hand hitting them).

If you want to slow it down even more, get the TShirt + Poster patch combos. Then you can trap more often during songs without too much worry to the crowd meter. Enjoy!

Thank you! it never ceases to amaze me how JJP and their rulesets crush. I am LOVING the patches as it really mixes up how you want to steer the game. Its also not easy for me to switch to the ones I want or remember to and in the order I need them! I love this game. Kinda crazy as I am new to the club however I almost passed on this as I just read too much of the forums and it seemed the general statement was this was a bore fest with waay too many multiballs. I am so glad I had a chance to play it first as this is and was a sleeper for me. Especially with your settings, its up there with Wonka as thats my other favorite pin of all time that will stay bolted with what appear to be with GNR! I hope its a hat trick with GF CE!!!!

#24814 6 months ago
Quoted from Kevlar:

Does anyone else's left ramp reject a lot of balls? I'm not sure if it's the diverter groove causing it or maybe the screw heads and rivets at the top of the ramp being proud but I get a lot of balls bouncing at the top of the ramp and coming straight back down. I've tried tightening the screws down but they're already down as low as they can go. Maybe the wrong screws are fitted?
[quoted image]

It looks like you have a playfield protector on the upper playfield. This causes the playfield to be higher than the ramp exit to said upperplayfield allowing the ball to roll back onto the ramp. Without that playfield protector the playfield is a bit lower than the ramp preventing the ball to roll back.

Replaced the ground loop isolator with one from Amazon. This seem to have fixed ALL problems, game sounds better than ever. Thanks all for the help all!

Turned out the ground loop isolator didn't fix the issue, after a few more plays issue started again. PinWoofer reached out and suggested the expander board delete, which has completely fixed the issue. Thanks again to PinWoofer for all the assistance getting my GnR rocking and rolling again!

Once you start to develop your ideal patch strategy, you'll eventually remember how man action button hits it takes to get to the next patch. For a long while, I was focused on reaching Not In This Lifetime mode, so I'd prioritize T-shirt and Poster, then go back to Fender and clear out all the sponsor patches to get the extra ball. While it's not worth taking your hands off the flippers when you're at risk of draining a ball, you'll eventually be able to quickly do it without looking at the LCD screen while the ball is on the ramps or up in the pops.

Glad you're enjoying this game - welcome to the jung... er, club!

Pretty sure I haven't, and the upper playfield surface is about half an inch lower than the top of the ramp.

Try sliding a credit card over the ramp to see if it catches/snags on the diverter hole. If it does you can add a few post rubbers to lift the bottom area of the diverter hole. On my game the ball use to jump up the ramp but once I did the “ramp lift kit” it’s nice and smooth. Hope this helps.

Regarding using the action button during gameplay to select patches....

Quoted from Jaygee77:

.
I can't tell you how many times I've been reminded of this......by the game. Yet I still find myself trying to get away with it anyway.

#24822 6 months ago

That’s why it’s extra important to come up with your patch strategies and also count how many times you need to hit that button to cycle through to the next patch you need. I’ve got about 6-8 roughly memorized now on my high point strategy. I also work on selecting them when a ball goes into the lock. Helps give me a quick break to find one I don’t have the count for yet. Plus during that break you could map out the count you need for the next 2-4 patches or however much you can remember. Then you don’t need to memorize 10+ at once. Start with your first 5 or so then add the near few to your memory when you get a break.

And for the one booster multiball I just try and look at the firecracker thing right away and count it out in my head about when I need to glance at it again to be ready for triple jackpot.

Quoted from Kevlar:

mmm, guess its an optical illusion then from the angle of the picture then. Sorry i can't help more then. I have a buddy who has the same issue sometimes and have not had the time to check his game out. If i do and find out what it is in his game i will get back to you.

First ball... November rain, blew an 18 million jackpot. Got an extra ball tho. Gotta go . Ball 2...

#24831 6 months ago

Guess I better join you and take a run on mine tonight.

#24832 6 months ago

Slash solo idea. Add both spinners to the record shot as a way to qualify guitar lock phase. Lock balls 1-3 and be awarded ”light extra ball.” Lock balls 3-6 and be awarded a second “light extra ball.” Maybe massage points earned as well.

Boom. Simple. Now slash solo is worth playing without trying to code into stacking or other intricacy

Back after one long game. I got Live and Let Die first, then November Rain and I blew a 24,000,000 or so jackpot on it. Ended up playing Paradise City, Out to Get Me, It’s So Easy, Welcome to the Jungle, Sweet Child of Mine (cashed out early), and maybe one more I’m missing. Ended up around 120,000,000 for the night. One game and done. That was a workout. Had a ton of patches but didn’t get max song until SCOM.

I'm more guilty of doing it during the Make Some Noise jackpot timer thing. Can't tell you how many multiballs I've wasted trying to smack that button - and not even trying to time it to the yellow/red segments, either!

The album mode for Chinese Democracy, "Shall We Play a Game?" that apes Wargames WOPR simulation. Gets new players every time. Great prank intro.

Got that for the first time tonight and ... well after shitting a brick, I laughed my ass off. Great to see them pay respect to war games!

That's an awesome setlist.
Your game ended waaaaay better than mine. I can't imagine playing that many songs in one game... the extra balls must have been your friend? Oh wait I forget who I'm talking to. Lol.
I struggled and couldn't cash out on my jackpots. Didn't focus on patches like I said I was going to do either. I got the t-shirt but I never got the poster before the next song started.
Ball two I was rockin the multiballs trying to build up points and I'll be damned if I didn't have three balls going two of them decided they were going to join together and head down the left out lane together and time it exactly to meet that third ball coming sdtm between the flippers. All three of them join precisely together in single group below the flippers to synchronize going down the trough together for a very abrupt ending. It was like I hit a brick wall at 60mph I just stood there processing that seemingly coordinated intentional 3 ball drain shaking my head.
.
Ball three, working my way up to a song, but My plans got cut short early......got mystery song, happened to be don't cry, nope, wanted a song that rocks... not as much a ballad, So I took the song value point hit and chose estranged..... I was riding the adrenaline train, but knew I wasn't playing like I was going to make it to applause, also I was not able to get down to one ball and cash out with the extra ball option either and so I double drained and went out ... Only blowing a small jackpot... Not even enough to really care about and finishing with a whopping 5 million.
For anybody new to the scene reading this, that's a very very normal game. GNR loves to have its way with me. But I like it. The "no two games alike" keeps me coming back as I know every game is going to have great moments and the next game could be my new GC.
That game took it out of me, I could see how it was going so I wasn't setting myself up for more punishment so instead I played one game of Rush, Just to teach gnr a lesson and had a great game 415m. Looked over at GNR, and snickered as I walked towards the door thinking "next time, sweet game of mine, next time" and powered down for the night.

#24842 6 months ago

Thanks vespula for all the insight.
My normal strategy is frenzy the duff then thunder chucker. Then it is gun then rose then GnR emblem.
I may go for an album patch after a song to help me w album mode.

I’ve owned GNR since October of 2020. I wouldn’t exactly call it crying. It would be nice to see the update after having this machine so long.

Inquiring about a code update that’s been talked about, for like a year now, seems reasonable to me. Even though it falls on deaf ears… I doubt JJP reads anything on this thread anyway.

#24846 6 months ago

I wish JJP received an email or phone call from each person who asks for a code update online somewhere, every time they asked for one.

PS - totally happy with my GNR just how it sits. Anything I didn’t like was an easy settings adjustment. The only setting I changed was how many spins it takes to get Slash solo.
