Quoted from PinMonk:

It's been over a year since I did it, but if I remember right it was because I didn't have the correct size on hand, so I put it around the third post to take up the slack. That's the first and only rubber that broke on GnR so far. Broke within a month. Caught me off guard. That's why it's white rubber instead of the stock translucent.

Amazing. Both of my slings broke within 50 plays! You've got good mojo.

I've been rotating the sling rubbers since they tend to cut at each end post. They have 3 bad spots in them now, so I'm expecting them to go any time.

True true. For me the honeymoon never wore off. I never thought I would own a pinball machine until GNR promo crossed my phone December 30th, 2020. I said wtf and went straight to JJP and gave him a deposit online. Called later that week and said when would it ship? Lol. Never heard of pinside ...didn't know that people have to wait for these things. And for me that wait was 11 months!
Finally November 21 it arrived! What a masterpiece. I always said I was a one-pin guy. Then Rush came out. My favorite band. Lurking in the owners forum watching some streams I realized this was a special pinball machine too. I figured out how I could squeeze one more in ordered it and got it set up one week ago today. It's so complimentary to GNR because it's a different manufacturer, my first stern, and it's a totally different experience. It almost feels more like a pinball machine in a more traditional way that I'm used to. Whereas GNR feels like an experience from another world! Best pin ever.
It was rough having the conversation with my wife, but she is the best even if she doesn't understand me most of the time. Two pins is my limit. I don't have any more space. I promise. Merry Christmas everybody! Thanks so much for supporting me on pinside and it has been an amazing first pin and pinside experience!

My wife finally gave up and just embraced my pinball wierdness. If you're ever in the Knoxville area, hit me up. We'll have some beers and flip some pins!

I am having an issue with the left guitar lock post. No matter what I do, it is starting in the down position at the start of every game. It will go up, but only after a ball has been locked on the other side. Then when it releases a ball it goes down and stays down releasing all balls.

Any ideas?

Is there a diag test/calibrate for this?

#23856 1 year ago

Guitar lock diagnostic is in coil test

Check out this post and picture of the coils with washer and spring issue and his fix in subsequent comments...May not be your fix but....

The spring slips past the washer on the coil. Remove the coil if necessary and twist the spring back down.

Here’s a new one for me: turned on GNR this afternoon and have no audio. Just a pop from the sub every five seconds or so.

Fuse and all wiring on the sound amplifier board looks good. Confirmed audio output directly from the CPU via headphones (and via front headphone jack). But getting absolutely nothing from speakers. Ran a new RCA cable from CPU to the sound board (in case of short); nada. Also bypassed the ground loop isolator in case that had fritzed out (unlikely, but trying to eliminate variables).

Any ideas?

#23861 1 year ago

Call jjp or open a ticket. Sound board probably crapped out.

Sorry.

Picked up a low play LE. Got to admit , I played this a few times in the wild and thought it was a multi ball mess. Now that I have played it more in the home environment and started ( And I mean just started) to learn the rules, I can see the attraction the lovers have for this game. There is a lot more to it that just multi balls and a lot is going on all at the same time. To me this game feels a lot like Iron Man. The game got crapped on till people started getting " it ". For the price of a pimped out Stern pro in the secondary market you get a tremendous value.

Has anybody made a dyi chasing lights mod for the topper? If so, which light kit did you use? I know the mod kits are out there, but obviously a lot cheaper to make your own. Thank In advance

I think once Kyle at pinballmodz.com did it so well and so affordably it was game over.

I've never seen any post of any one finding/making a marquee diy solution... other than his.

Plus his "monkey mod" is really cool too.
All very fairly priced. And not something the average person could diy.

More easily diy, is the cabinet lighting mirroring the hot rails. While several others here have assembled diy versions, the HYPERLYTES by deejaypee (cheapdrainz com) did it best and brought it to market very successfully and it's the defacto solution for cabinet lighting on GNR LE ( and TS4 would likely be compatible also) And while there are some other variations selling out there and are cheaper they're more of a LED music reaction this is the first brought to market that directly mirrors the playfield hot rails.

#23866 1 year ago

I never paid that much attention to the Playfield LCD , but since it's back up and running , I keep an eye on it now and have noticed just how much information it gives you . For example , if you start make some noise multiball and hold both balls , your shot value will rise from 10,000 to 50,000 and your metre will go from 1,000 to 6,000 , and back down again .
That's what I love about Keith Johnson's games , so much attention to detail you might not notice .
I think that's why the code update is taking so long , he's a perfectionist .

I see the a CE for sale with extra playfields.
I haven’t received mine yet.
How about every else?

#23868 1 year ago

Well I’ve been without a pin in the house for a few years and finally got one! Gnr LE, been wanting one since they came out! Love it so far but have had a few technical issues hoping to see if anyone has answers
First somewhat trajectory for me not one but both playfield slides loosened up underneath and the playfield fell off track and got jammed up scratched the side of the cab, not horrible I know but the game had 146 plays on it when I got it arrgh! I got that fixed and adjusted the horribly adjusted lock down bar and loose button switch, all good now
My main issue is the top lanes bulbs and rt lane side bulb and center X insert aren’t lighting at all and not sure if all pops are supposed to light but the top 2 don’t also the led to the rt of the lower pop
In attract mode or game play. I didn’t notice this originally. Any thoughts? Thx for
Any help

As usual - the pictures doesn't do them Justice .
Easily the best cosmetic mod I've made on the game .
I like the black ones as they are subtle but yet you still get the same effect with double the amount of hot rails and lights
They make the light shows look even more spectacular .
If you do get them , you'll have to get the blade protectors so they don't get scratched .

Very cool. Here’s a few of the regular mirror blades for comparison.

Yes, that too was another reason I went with the poster art blades. Plus they came with the art blade protectors which are great when raising or lowering my GNR or any other playfield, and the poster art blades are much thinner than mirror blades.

Regular or black mirror blades also look amazing on this game. But then again, this game looks awesome anyway, even just bone stock out of the box.

I don't know if I was just lucky or what, but I have zero issues with raising/lowering my playfield with the mirror blades installed. I purchased the blade protectors expecting issues but I don't even use them at this point, and I swear I have the hood up on this game more than I play it! I purchased my mirror blades from Pinball Decals Inc., no idea if they use a different size material or what, but I can certainly vouch for their quality.

Never seen that topper mod. It's a elegant simple lower cost solution to making your topper come alive. Pretty cool.
The pinballmodz.com is more expensive (149 I think).
https://www.pinballmodz.com/product-page/jjp-gnr-oem-top-rgb-led

and if you add the monkey mod it doubles the cost but it's a complete topper solution.... not even sure he is still making the mods, everything says out of stock,, but his is definitely the best quality and best implementation as it looks like a true marquee. Each individual LED lights up and has many different patterns that rotate instead of just an LED strip in the coin taker version that just backlights and has a lot of light bleed on the sign.

That being said that's being picky (but fair) and I definitely go with a coin taker mod if the pinballmodz.com wasn't available.

Probably worth its own thread , which is the best GNR topper .
The CE topper .
Standard topper with the monkey mod .
The English guys with the concert topper .
The DE topper .
Hologram topper .
Lior's topper .
The stadium topper .
And probably some I haven't seen .

Possibly I’ll check it, thank you. All of my audio connections look good. Is there anyway to force going into the bios now that the hard drive is hooked back up?

Here’s the audio settings I’m seeing in the bios (just disconnected hard drive again to get into it). I do have a Pinwoofer setup / amp connected to the game.

Got the audio part of the way back, loose Pinwoofer cable. However now it sounds very garbled.

Update: fixed! Pinwoofer cable was loose again. Go figure all this happened right before I’m having family over lol.
