Quoted from konghusker:

How do you advance cities? How does that factor into getting to wizard modes?

Three travel shots: Left/Right Orbits and upper flipper loop. When they are green, you can shoot it and the City advances. Beyond that I don't know the benefits yet.

Quoted from Blu:

It’d be a lot of work (at least for me) but you could make a custom apron to show it off. I look at it as just another hidden thing on the playfield that is cool to occasionally discover.

If they offered a kit to upgrade the coma lock for the LE and charge a ton I bet a lot of folks would buy it.

Quoted from Mrawesome44:

I tell you man the JJP hate train on Pinside is rough. The people who are shitting on GNR are the same people who say Iron Maiden is the second coming of pinball.

I am not one of those shitting on GnR at all, looking forward to playing it and possibly owning it.
But ... played some IMDN last night and something about that game is just a blast.
Def. not as pretty or as full as GnR .. but dam is it a fun machine.

Agreed. IMDN is my most played game, sits right next to my Aerosmith, and my GRLE will sit on the end of my trio of dad rock pins. I’ve never met a pin I didn’t like, but I love the music pins, and G&R will be my capstone

Quoted from kermit24:

OK, so since this IS an owners thread after all, I think I should post some early learnings.
1. When you remove the huge packing foam around Axl, check the switch wires. For me one of them (Guitar lock entry) was pressed down by the foam and was shorted closed. Just a simple adjustment to get the wire off the switch bracket.
2. After a a couple days, the spinning record became wobbly. Just needed to tighten the screw under the PF.
3. Did have one reset today while playing Patience. Not sure if they can send the log over WiFi to Keith or they need it?
4. I think all playfields are the same (except CE Glitter obviously). See the Coma lock under the LE apron?
Loving the game and will have a few friends over again tomorrow to play.

Good intel...

#556 3 years ago

Eh....

I was really surprised, after so much hate from some pinsiders, on how good Axl looked in the footage.

We got mean joke, after mean joke, and I was really happy and EXCITED everytime I saw Axl power stance, rock and about, and spin!

Seriously, AMAZING footage in this game, best ever in a rock pin, no question, and Axl, Slash, Duff and the gang look awesome!

I agree. I went to this concert last year and it did not disappoint. I was originally questioning why they did the current gnr vs the 80’s version with the music videos, but I actually really like this idea. On top of that, my wife really likes this concert idea as she can relate to it since we witnessed it first hand. The skeleton theme is awesome too, so well done jjp.

Shame covering up artwork like that.

Eh, they could have just left that area blank, instead there's a cool easter egg for people who get into the guts. I love it.

The artist might not have realized it would be covered up too, it can be hard to know sometimes depending on how much access to a physical game they had. I know there's some art on Alien I spent time on and later realized nobody would ever see unless they took the game apart.

I had exactly zero physical access though, so it can depend. First time I ever saw a printed playfield was at Expo on the prototype games.

I can tell you this: doing a playfield isn't the easiest job. It's like doing a big poster, combined with a user interface, where everything you do is dictated by the placement of 3D objects that you have no control over and might obscure anything from any angle.

I'm really impressed with the GNR playfield personally. Very solid from a technical drawing standpoint, but also just very balanced with how it fits the space and the inserts etc. It's not minimalist in any way, but it doesn't feel too busy either.

Has anyone heard who the artist is? Be nice if they got credit for the great work.

I'm guessing the coma lock move to CE was undecided at the time the art was drawn up.

#560 3 years ago

Wonder if that's any indication the Coma lock was going to be in the LE as well at some point?

His name was mentioned in one of the streams I watched. I've seen so many I forget which one along with the name. I'm sure someone here will chime in. But yeah, I love the playfield artwork!! Top notch.
Edit: I thought they said Arian Buhler.

Highly doubt it. As the LE and CE playfield are the same with the exception for some last coat glitter add my guess is they just stuck with one print for all.

I thought you all might like to see all the tour posters. I have a descent collection of these.

Some sell for thousands of dollars. Arian Buhler is considered by most to the the best artist who worked on these. His lithographs are generally the most sought after.

Thanks for sharing. Very cool. I want to get a few of the ones for shows I have been too. Where do these originate? I don't know much about these lithographs honestly. Are these for fans to purchase or are these supposed to be used to advertise upcoming shows?

They were hand numbered and available only at shows. Usually around 150-250 a show.

You can find some of them on the secondary market on Ebay, forums, facebook groups, etc...

Which shows did you go to?

Having never owned a JJP game, how are the sound systems typically when compared with Stern (only owned Stern).

Thanks

Would have to look for the exact dates.....back in 92 in East Rutherford, NJ with Metallica....then 3 of the "Not in this lifetime" shows in Philly, Newark and East Rutherford.

Cool. I found the poster for Newark.... By the way.....I was at this show....lol......"On July 29, 1992, while Guns N' Roses was playing during the second show at Giants Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey, Guns N' Roses frontman Axl Rose encountered severe pain in his throat, but he continued the show until he was hit in the genitals by a cigarette lighter thrown from the audience during "Knockin' on Heaven's Door", so Rose retreated backstage to regain his energy, while bassist Duff McKagan took over on vocals and then the show ended"

Axl certainly had anger issues in the 80/90's....the shit show he created in St Louis was nuts....seems like all of them have mellowed out with age, and its nice to see them alive and still playing.

So I had my AIQ premium paid in full to my distributor and I was expecting to get it probably sometime next week. I wasn't in love with the theme but I could tell it would be a good machine to play on at least. Something about it wasn't grabbing me in though.

Saw the reveal and videos for GNR.
Busted out my old Guns n' Roses piano book to play some songs.
Slept on it.
Had an epiphany.
Emailed my distributor and asked to change to a GNR LE. I wasn't sure if this was allowed or not since this is the first time I changed my mind. Fortunately said he was cool with it.

Not sure yet when I'll be getting it, but I am super pumped to get another JJP in the house! Love my Wonka, and have been playing Dialed In quite a bit in the past couple months. Granted those are Pat Lawlor pins, but I just love the quality and feel of JJP machines. About the only complaint I have is the weight lol. I have a feeling GNR is just going to be epic. Reminds me a lot of my dad's AC/DC. Don't care if the haters think I'm "f***ing crazy".

You won't regret it. This machine (and the other JJP pins) is in another league. I have AC/DC....not even close!

Here's the thread I created the other day. Has some more shots also. Unboxing and such.

It was a fun day, to say the least! Feels like two weeks ago, rather than Tuesday.... I'd rather be there glu glugging some beer, and playing, than at work now.

Yeah....that mech seems loose for sure. Seems a simple fix, but definitely something to tighten up or make sure the parts are wholly intact prior to play.

#597 3 years ago
Quoted from NightTrain:

Hate to say this, but man....you've just gotta stop. I swear, every GNR thread I open, there you are again. Saying the same shit over and over.
I'm aware you didn't order a game. So, I see some new posts in the GNR OWNER'S thread so I open it up. I'm excited to see what's going on. And then BOOM! There you are....again. It's like herpes....but slightly more annoying. It just won't go away....
And why post this negative stuff about the game in here? The amount of negativity from you and a handful of others is truly amazing. This is an OWNERS thread. Guys here are excited. I have a CE on order that I'm stoked to get. Why on earth do you need to post crap in here. It's such a buzz kill.
This game looks crazy awesome. At the end of the day though, it's just a damn pinball machine man. JJP made this game how they want. Maybe it's multi-ball heavy. Maybe it's with the video of the current line-up and what this band looks like today. That's how they wanted to make it. If you don't like heavy multiball or the current line-up, then don't buy the damn game. Honestly though, nobody really cares what you do. Nobody.
You and the other few that think so highly of your own opinions should open your own thread. Call it something like "Shit we don't like about JJP GNR and other opinions nobody actually wants to hear". Then I can just drain that thread and get excited over this game.
This game is going to fucking rock. I'm so psyched to see JJP and Eric do something like this. And to have Slash and the others with Guns put so much effort into this is truly amazing. Good on them. Bravo to all involved.
One last thing. We ALL know you think the LE art is better. We get it. Just.....just stop.

Well said man. I don’t own one but love to read how excited everyone is and all the good stuff. Someone needs to direct that guy to the “Non-Owners Group”

#598 3 years ago
Quoted from kermit24:

the Coma lock under the LE apron?

Hmmm. JJP should pull a Stranger Things UV Lighting Kit fast one, and sell a replacement apron and kit that adds Coma to the LE. They'd (eventually) sell 5,000 kits! I'm in! Where do I pre-order?

#599 3 years ago

Soooooo, my distributor says my game should ship today, but call JJP for a tracking number since it's being drop shipped. I then call JJP, and they emailed me the bill of lading from the freight company, still no tracking number though. So I call the freight company and they poke around in their computer and tell me "hmmm looks like our truck showed up for a pickup, but the business has moved"! So, another call to JJP, only to find out my distributor gave the shipping company JJPs OLD ADDRESS!!!! Dammit!!! How many weeks is this gonna cost me?

#600 3 years ago

For those that ordered directly from JJP and live in Illinois, I’m assuming taxes were charged? How much was shipping? I ordered from a distro but they are back ordered.
