i got one for the wall.
got one of every pf wade made except sky jump and jack in the box.
i am think about a strange world for the wall but i will cross that bridge later

Is there an accurate count on how many were made vs. sold? My playfield is in good shape but would consider buying one to support Wade’s efforts.

#405 8 months ago

Mine is on its way! Will be glad to be able to finally get my ACD up and running soon. It's been in pieces since I got it several years ago as I could never get around to doing the playfield painting and clearing.

There are going to be a lot more droolers around when photos of the new installed playfields hit Pinside

I'm embarrassed to say, but I bought the game on New Years Eve 2013 and haven't played a game on it since then. That was a crazy evening as we were hosting a New Years Eve party that night and I had to jump on the deal (can't remember what excuse I gave to my wife for sneaking out lol). Fortunately it was located only a mile away from my house so I wasn't gone for long

Finding myself with some free time, I started working on my Abra restoration. Had had some delaminated veneer on one side but otherwise pretty nice. And the glass well it speaks for itself. Here it is sitting in front of a window today.

I looked at the "who wants a pf" thread, didnt seem to be a serious count. Just drop Wade an email stating if there are any leftovers I may be interested in one. PBR probably has one for sale right now. And I always hit up Wade for his seconds, usually better than factory anyway.

#408 8 months ago

Wade said they are all spoken for...which bums me out seeing people buying them for their wall when my game could use one. Oh well? Maybe time to sell the Abra!

Quoted from Darcy:

Recently installed the proper playfield plastic that is under the Top Center Plastic. Needed the 2 piece posts. Now the rebound shots off of the Drop Targets seem to be rolling up the #2 or #3 upper roll overs a lot more easily. Before, some one had installed an extra post and just put a large rubber around the area.

[quoted image]

I just put in a new glass (what a difference) and I’m ready to get new lower plastics; where did you find the plastic piece you mentioned Darcy? Mine is cracked, but can’t seem to find it online..

Pinball Rescue. For Gottlieb playfield plastics and other playfield parts and decals. They are in Australia.

Rebuilding the flippers as part of the swap? Considering orange/yellow dot coils?

How do owners protect the lower plastics? The ones in point blank range of the flippers and, almost always, broken. (As blitzburgh99 's is in the photo above, and both of mine are...)

buy extra "small" sets from rescue. Not going to break very often, I'd leave them a little loose on the posts as well. Some folks like orange dot, I will start with originals, I think they are strong enough, dont want the game too easy. my opinion.

Anybody spot the factory artifact that Wade faithfully reproduced in his playfields? Quite humorous to see go to this extreme, he is a perfectionist!

I don't think I want to know lol. I've been involved with a couple of CPR repros and there are a couple of errors that I am aware of that bug me

I've seen the small sets and wondered about the color [mis-]match with the plastics that aren't being replaced. Assuming the remaining plastics aren't terribly faded, are the new ones noticeable?

far enough removed to be not terribly noticeable. you have to replace the small ones anyway

Just for that I'll tell you , below the left flipper there is a break in the black edging. we thought is was an error in the new pf but its on the original too

That's not too bad, I thought it was going to be a spelling mistake or some obvious midregistration. I just checked my original ACD playfield and it has that break in the keyline though I didn't notice it at first because the is a small chip in that area.

Mine too, an original ....fancy that.

#426 8 months ago

Hmmm... mine looks clean.

For a Gottlieb production run of ~2800 machines, I wonder how many batches of playfields they run?

I have Abra Serial Number 3041, do the playfields have any production info stamped on them?

The mystery deeps. I assume early pfs had the flaw and they fixed it in a later run. Or did a blob of paint stick to the silkscreen causing late games to have the flaw.

#429 8 months ago

I am also flawed:

Abra Flaw (resized).jpg
#430 8 months ago

are your serial numbers higher or lower than 3041?

#431 8 months ago

Higher for me.

You have quite the eclectic mix currently, approximately 30 years between each of your pins!

Thanks for noticing! My goal is to own 5 pins, one from each “major” era if you will.
Flipperless
EM (wedgehead is preferred)
SS
DMD
Then the dreaded Spike system

I think Abra-ca-Dabra would be a great suiter for the EM era

Mine is 5056 has the key line. Remember, silk screens only lasted for 30 or 40 uses.

#439 8 months ago

#4415 - missing key line.

I would be happy either way.

Busy Abra day, wire forms added, light tubes added, rails attached, sockets and braid added. need more laydown sockets from PBR. Lightly sand the outer edge of the light tubes (rub against some 320 grit) to a slight bevel, makes it easier inserting into the pf, tight fit. Use a wood block to work the tube back and forth to fully seat.

I think I have a relatively early pin... if I registered my s/n at IPSND, it would be the fourth lowest s/n of 70 production Abra's registered. The two largest registered clusters are s/n's 3500-4500 and 4700-5500. Keep in mind that Gottlieb (and others) inserted gaps in their serial number sequences to hide production quantities from competitors.

So the key line was there for early pins and late pins. Probably not the first time (nor the last) that a few minor imperfections showed up in the screening process during a long production run. Based on stashyboy 's info, roughly 70 sets of screens would've been used to produce 2800 machines.

Nice work, Ken! It is so cool to see the new playfield coming alive

#443 7 months ago

It's funny I repaired and repainted my playfield and repainted the black line, so I've attached a before and after.

Does anyone make reproduction manufacturer certificates for Gottliebs if a guy were doing a full restoration?
