Massachusetts is now under voluntary shelter in place orders. I gotta help close down my dealership for at least 2 weeks tomorrow. At noon everything non essential has the order to shut down.
First time in my 53 years I’ve ever been on unemployment assistance.

#2065 4 years ago
Quoted from CrazyLevi:

Hang in there buddy. I’m really sorry to hear so many are losing work, it sucks. The faster we get rid of this thing the faster we can all go back to work.

Thanks man. You’re in a potentially much more serious situation. Stay safe. We need you here!

#2463 4 years ago

ALL HAIL THE ALMIGHTY DOLLAR!

Folks are scared and some are dying. Some will die in the streets or alone due to not enough ventilators and beds.

But the economy will be back up by Easter. We’re still on the upward curve? Yeah well, don’t let that stop you from working. My dealership is closed voluntarily for at least 2 weeks for the safety of our customers. At least my boss cares enough to take the hit. Other dealers are trying to keep limping along with fewer customers coming in.

Quoted from Who-Dey:

It's the ONLY place that I go for my news. Anything else is fake news!

BRO! There are serious reporters on Fox!

I’m just fucking with ya. More humor.

Well, looks like I squeaked into the married filing jointly category.

Quoted from RWH:

I'm wondering about that can you give any particulars. I don't work (retired) but my wife does (for about another week as they let her go) and I was just curious if they'll count me at all? I mean I obviously don't contribute to the economy GNP anymore and let me tell ya when that happens you're left out of a lot of things!

Goes by 2019 tax returns. Did you both file jointly and together less than 150k gross?

Quoted from Coindork:

I would rather see flocks of seaguls than flocks of crows.
Several cities in China have had flocks of crows circling over them as crows are scavengers and eat carrion.
I.E. they can smell the death and are attracted to it.

Would you though? Would you REALLY?!?!

Quoted from o-din:

They would have to nail me to a cross first. I make my own immunities.
But for those that want it, great!

This is not the flu. It is a novel strain of a Corona virus. It can kill more aggressively. You may want to rethink your ‘purity’. Besides, didn’t all of our generation already get stabbed with the Polio and/or smallpox vaccines? You know, those wonderful arm or leg scars we have...

Unless the vaccine is Scotch. Then please self administer at your leisure.

Quoted from zr11990:

If you solder them it reduces the voltage. You are not supposed to solder wires on oxygen sensors on cars for that reason. At least that is what I have been told by mechanics. When I put headers on my Bette and took out the cats we had to buy extensions

It increases the voltage and reduces resistance. The harness and connectors are included in H02s calibrations. Once harness is damaged you throw the whole sensor out. Of course this is only in the 2 wires sending signals to the ECM, not the heater circuit itself. If any wires are damaged in a 6 pin sensor just replace the entire component.

Quoted from zr11990:

Ok. Something I did not know. One of many things. Thanks for the info.

Been a master tech for 28 years. Been out of work since Tuesday, so I’m bored right now.

#4012 4 years ago
Quoted from Multiballmaniac1:

And you said to me months ago your job was solid. Goes to show how f@cked we are right now. But everything is just beautiful. Take care. I am still working but my wife will be done soon.

It is solid, recession solid. This is different. I’m still employed. Voluntary dealership closedown til apr 7th. May go on longer if Gov Baker deems so. Essential is all well and good, but when I’m the only one willing to get into everyone’s car, well, things get done slowly. Owner decided not worth the risk. Other 5 techs were acting like it’s the plague. I put gloves on, Hand-sanitized, before and after repairs.

Up until we closed we still had customers trying to schedule in.

Quoted from cait001:

I feel like us non-Americans should have our own designated thread where we just look at the headlines from America and silently mouth "W T F" every hour.
Would save pinside like 50% of all moderation

People are scared and concerned for their families. I’m all about Reading the wtf comments. They can create animosity but also further discussion, along with said wtf person maybe learning something. Now is not the time to segregate countries. We’re all in this together.

Remember, folks venting. Including yourself.

#4623 4 years ago
Quoted from Rezdog:

Distance venting far outweighs actually ventilating

Geez, vent about it, why doncha.

#4660 4 years ago
Quoted from Rezdog:

“Let them eat cake” code has just been updated to “Let them vent while their lungs still can”
Only took 400 years.

Ok. That’s comedy gold right there.

Quoted from jamesmc:

An excerpt of John's Hopkins information. "The virus is not a living organism, but a protein molecule (rna) covered by a layer of lipid (fat) which, when absorbed by the cells of the ocular, nasal or buccal mucosa, changes their genetic code (mutation) and convert them into aggressive and multiplier cells. Since the virus is not a living organism but a protein molecule, it is not killed, it decays on its own. The disintegration time depends on the temperature, humidity and type of material where it lies. The virus is very fragile; the only thing that protects it is a tiny layer of fat. That's why any soap or detergent is the best remedy. Because the foam cuts the fat, that's why it the best remedy and why you have to wash for 20 seconds". As a family member scientist told me and I mentioned earlier, humidity is a factor. This explains a few things. I have been, but now know why 20 seconds of hand washing is important.

The cure was right under our noses the whole time!!

Quoted from cait001:

Dark thoughts: if something happened to you, are all your papers in order? Your will, bank accounts, credit cards, power of attorney, DNR, organ donations, etc? I dotted all the Is and crossed the Ts earlier this year.
One thing I'm also doing is making sure my partner knows someone she can trust for getting rid of my arcade stuff. Someone we can trust to handle all the logistics and put things out for fair prices, so she wouldn't have to deal with it all.
Wondering if anyone else has done the same?

Nope. I’ll be dead, so bye bye. I worked my ass off for my family...my kids are adults now. My wife was also an adult last I checked, so she can figure out my meager possessions. We came from nothing, we go unto the same.

#7046 4 years ago
Quoted from TheFamilyArcade:

Am I the only one a little disappointed in these "full disclosure" pics of the Corona situation? I mean, really, a bunch of true pics of balding (and hair recessive) pinheads isn't making this crisis any easier!
I pretty much envision all pinsiders as 1970 Clint Eastwood in a crazy three way with Penthouse Pets. Not...reality.

I may be bald but at least I’ve got a package made for porn.

No worries, won’t be sharing that pic.

#7101 4 years ago
Quoted from vicjw66:

Yeah me too. It may not be that big around, but at least it’s short.

The apocalypse isn’t enough...now I’ve got that picture in my brain.

Quoted from loneacer:

Ours is clean, but still pretty empty. Only cereal was Cheerios. Fourth week in a row with no TP. No eggs. Very little bread or meat. It's kind of taken a step back. Last week it was a bit better stocked, but two weeks ago was like today.
Strange thing is the grocery store a mile away from Walmart is fully stocked with everything. I've been getting a few non essentials at Walmart, then heading to the grocery store for everything else.

Same here. My sis in law works at Walmart, looks like a looted/empty shelved/end of the world mess. Go to Hannafords( higher end supermarket down the street) and always fully stocked.

My take away: I REALLY need supplies, but if only I could save $10-20 on a $300 stock up. Sure. Ok. Enjoy the empty shelves then I guess?

Jigsaw puzzles are hot now too. I had a few unopened ones in the closet that I planned to do someday. Now those $10 puzzles are going for $50+.

Yeah. Ok. Expendable income is overflowing these days.

Quoted from Blitzburgh99:

I’m tired of being cooped up....I’m ready to get infected and see where this shit takes me. If I live, then the fear is gone. If I die, well, it was gonna get me eventually anyways.[quoted image]

Or catch it again. What makes you think there is one strain?

Shit will take those you infect. Cuz your bored. Ok.

Trying to EXTEND timeline here, you know, for cure development.

Unless you were trying to be funny. Then I’ll leave this here:

Quoted from boscokid:

Sorry Texas - consumption really needs to be measured on a per capita basis
1 - New Hampshire
2 - Delaware
3 - Nevada
4 - North Dakota
5 - Wisconsin
Not surprisingly Texas rates right around average when compared to 50 states + DC

Nope. Mass, Vermont and Maine all export our beer. No sales tax. Consumption is based on sales in that state. So flawed data.

#9367 4 years ago

Well, going back to the dealership garage on Monday in Middlesex county, Massachusetts. 4417 cases so far there alone. And I’m 53. Meh. Nobody lives forever!

Not worried or even concerned. I’m sure folks will need repairs done since March 24th, when we closed.

#9426 4 years ago
Quoted from CrazyLevi:

What I wanna know is are the preppers just hunkered down and dipping into their doomsday stash?
Or were they flocking to wal mart to Buy a pallet of charmin just like everybody else?

I was doing both. Hidden bunker up north and enough supplies for at least a year. Just started dipping into my 2016 supplies.

Keep going to stores to keep home stocked.

I believe I have seen this guy. Not sure I would want to eat MRE that old.

The game promptly rewarded me with the single highest score ever set on the machine by anyone, by a long shot. Funny how that works sometimes!

Maybe the rats haven’t heard of Ubereats or Grubhub?

Issue is the same with any disease in history. Less food available from us=aggression in rodents. Next step is invading homes, and then sickness.

Quoted from Daditude:

Stimulus checks have arrived for some. Mine came in yesterday, however, it was all spent on bills in about 2 minutes flat.

Sorry man. Expendable income ideas for us:

1) Save a few pennies a day. In just a few short months that candy bar will taste well earned.

2) Remember, braces for the kids are nothing more than adhesive, wire and wiring retainers. All readily available at Home Depot for 1/10 the cost of those overpriced orthodontists!

3) High priced foods like Circle O’s , Tasty Cereal Squares and Ramen Sometimes have bottom shelf grocery store doppelgängers. If not available, dent a can. Pity can be profitable!

4) Dirt is high in iron. Grass is high in fiber.

5) Camping can be fun! That’s the icebreaker for the kids when Landlord says we’re being kicked out. Make it an ADVENTURE!

This sums up my feelings on Bill Gates pretty well. [quoted image]

Well, the road to redemption is straight on the starting line and gets dangerous to travel. Bill Gates has done great things, but I was there when he didn’t. His not great things were epic and destroyed people’s lives.

These ‘potatoe heads’ On the net will be one of his reminders for his lifetime.
