I was so bored last night that I phoned Jake at State Farm just to ask him what he was wearing.

I have two best friends for life. They are both like family to me. One I was with nearly every day from age 10 to 20. We learned to play guitar together and he was in my rock 'n roll band in high school. We read and collect the same multiple series of books and share many other interests. He was best man at my wedding 40 years ago this August.
The other I was with nearly every day from age 20 to 30. He played drums on recordings of my jazz-rock compositions (on which I play guitar, bass and keyboards). We were foosball partners at bars and in tournaments and went to arcades together to play pinball (he owns 10 pins while I have 17). He was bartender at my parent's 25th wedding anniversary. We're also car buddies (he has three hot cars and two motorcycles while I have five muscle cars).
I haven't seen either one during this virus lockdown. The drummer/pinball buddy phoned me today to see if I was okay and to thank me for being his closest friend for almost fifty years. These scary times make you appreciate the people who really matter in your life.

Light traffic due to the virus had cars zipping along way faster than normal rush hours yesterday morning. Added to a few inches of snow falling and temps in the 30s (twenty degrees below normal for this time of year) made for ice covered roadways and a fifty car and three semi pileup on the Kennedy Expressway into Chicago. 14 people taken to hospitals and 45 more were treated at the scene.
