Quoted from albummydavis:

I can stand people talking about free education.
Ever live in a country where the government pays for college? It’s not so wonderful, unless you are chosen to attend. The govt pays, so the govt decides who gets an education. Best case scenario, it is truly merit based and, by the time you’re 13 your test results putnyou on a college track. God forbid you screw up your life as a teenager—there’s not so many second chances. Going back to school as an adult is a rarity. Worst case scenario-the govt starts deciding to fund students based on quotas and demographics, not merit. Or you’re told what your aptitude is or what the governments needs are, and what they will pay you to study.
No thanks

Wow, not sure what your source or country of reference is but that’s not at all how it typically works. And yes, I grew up in a country that offers free education and none of the things you mention are even close to my experience on how it works!

State of WA was where things started getting bad really quick, and for a while we were the epicenter of the infections and the poster child of things going wrong. But I have to give credit for Gov. Inslee for thoughtful actions, calm and rational updates and in general making a bad situation as good as it can be as quickly as possible. If we didn’t have all the restrictions in place, as tough as they may be, I believe we’d be in much worse situation. Seeing some parts of the country still not taking this seriously is a bit puzzling, but I guess it remains to be seen where that leads. Still, it’s not often I give credit for our politicians, but feels like it’s due here. Hopefully this all will be over soon and we can start rebuilding our economy and get back to normalcy
