Shouldn’t you be out partying, not giving a shit about anything? Maybe howling out at the moon?! I wonder why you get so many downvotes..how about making a somewhat thoughtful comment for a change?

Quoted from pinstyle:

They are just people man, people like anyone else. You can disagree with how China runs things but to make such a broad statement is a pretty sh!tty thing to say. Hell I don't agree with how Chin handles some things and I absolutely HATE that everything in our stores is made in China, but have some respect for another human being.

I'm glad that we don't have much of a gun culture. We can spend our gun money on TP.

Quoted from taz:

So much for this not being a political thread. The same half dozen people just can't help themselves and have to keep virtue signaling over and over again.

It's pretty much impossible to take politics out of the most politically important event of our time. I hate our PM, but he seems to be taking hints from Europe. Good on him. Like him or hate him, your guy doesn't take hints from anybody, including Europe or scientists. Mexico's guy is in denial, which is even worse. We can have a balanced discussion about decisions made that will affect all of us.

The American corporations are going steal everything they can. That will be the real story when the dust settles.

#2862 4 years ago

Looks like we have a giant aid package that just passed. I wonder if we're going to see inflation or if it will be all relative. If we do see it, I hate the fact that I'll be punished for being a good manager and saver with my finances.

#2868 4 years ago
Quoted from Zablon:

Eh, yea, I'm trying to not look at it that way. I've been fortunate, even though I've worked my ass off to be where I'm at and people make fun of not spending every cent you have... I know there's people way more in need than me, so help them. I'll get by. I just don't want all the focus to be on the big companies because time and again they prove they don't see past the $$.

Oh, I have no issue with helping the poor or small businesses, but most of the aid package will go to corporations that either don't need it or sucked every penny of profit out for execs. Most of these would deserve to fail. In the end, I'll likely have to pony up 20% of my savings to these assholes via inflation.

#2881 4 years ago
Quoted from PinJim:

No offense, but what's the basis of your statement?
So Outback should fail because of this?
Cedar Fair should fail?
Name your favorite hotel chain. They should fail?
Automakers should fold?
It could be an extensive list of companies. I think people assume that big companies are sitting on giant piles of cash. Many of them operate on razor thin margins. And what about all of their workers that will be unemployed - and nobody is hiring since a large percentage of companies folded?
I know it's not popular, but I understand why there is a push to re-open the economy. Say we don't re-open it. What did you accomplish? Saved lives? Ya think? The virus isn't going to magically disappear, no matter how long we socially distance. The only hope is wait for a cure or effective treatment. In the mean time, half the country is out of work. I'm all for trying to control it via distancing, but to remain shut down will have an immediate and long lasting impact.
I don't want to see a single person die. I have a lot of family members that most likely won't survive this. It sucks. I'm not sure that there's a good outcome, again, short of a vaccine or treatment within the next week (unlikely).

Multiple logical fallicies.. Where to begin. I never named a specific corporation, but let's start with Goldman Sachs? I'm talking the big guys who have stolen from the coffers in the past.

It's not unpopular to want to reopen the economy. Arguments like that make you look silly. I was obviously arguing for a package that does not favour corporations that DO NOT NEED aid.

I never mentioned people dying, and your insinuation that I support that again makes you look silly. Please read, or reread, or improve your reading comprehension if you want to argue.

#2982 4 years ago
Quoted from taz:

Yeah, there's a lot of truth in what you say. Somehow, so many of us become prisoners to two opposing ideas, almost totally vacating the middle ground. A good case in point is how the Kennedy Center suddenly stormed into this thread. I'm still shaking my head on that one. Also snipes at Ingram and Hannity, and sure to be followed soon by snipes at Maddow, etc. I come here looking for a variety of Coronavirus data, news on the impact upon other states, rumors of possible treatments, stories about the infected, and the like. Unfortunately, it takes sorting through dozens of posts dripping in sticky political goo to get to the good stuff. But, despite that, it's still worth it to visit this thread a couple of times a day.

I really do wish people could be in the middle. I consider myself to be. I do disagree that people "swipe." For example, Hannity has hundreds of documented lies. It doesn't matter if you like him or not, this is a fact. Facts don't lie. This is not a swipe. It is critical thinking. "You should not trust this man because he lies." I'm sure Maddow has made some mistakes, but she does not have a similar list. You might not like her opinions, and that's fine. I may not like her opinions. That's fine too. If you remove emotion, it's pretty easy to distinguish facts from fiction. I like some right-wing policies, and I like some left-wing policies. We all hate liars. It's just a human quality that we do not tollerate on a day-to-day basis.

In other coronavirus news.
In the Gallup poll, 60% of Americans approve of the job Trump is doing in handling the crisis while 38% disapprove of how he has done. Six in 10 independents approve of how Trump has done on the coronavirus as do more than 1 in 4 (27%) of Democrats. In the Monmouth poll, 50% say Trump has done a good job with coronavirus while 45% said he has done a bad job.

Just read that:
"Trump Says That Due to the Democratic Governors of Washington (3,369 Coronavirus Cases) and Michigan (3,657 Cases)—the Latter of Whom He Calls "the Woman in Michigan"—Not Being "Appreciative" Enough of Him, He Has Told the Coronavirus Task Force Head "Not to Call Them""

So... "I feel insulted, so I let people die!"?
WTF?!

So what is the rule for moderation? We're not allowed to post quotes from politicians during the most important political moment in the last century? Back to Netflix I guess....

Man, our contry is still completely asleep on this. The new "rule" is that IF you have covid symptoms, you can't board a plane. How in the hell can you still board a plane??? There's lineups to get into grocery stores, yet you can get on an inclosed tube for hours and sit right beside a fellow idiot. I suppose we'll wait for the death numbers to go up before cancelling all air travel. Man, the stupidity is astounding.

There shouldn't be any blame placed on NY, but state lockdown is a pretty good idea. That means ALL states, not just NY. If they locked down the provinces in Canada, I'd applaud it. Everyone is saying "stay the fuck home," so locking down states should only affect losers that want to travel, relocate etc. etc.

Just like Crooked Hillary (political joke, not statement - meant to be neutral for a laugh - haha from left and right and centre - funny)

CBC just covered rise of Asian racism in the US and a severe spike in Asians buying guns. US government officials tried to have the virus named Wuhan Virus, which was flatly rejected by the international community.

They interviewed people buying guns for the first time. They each said that "leaders" are responsible for the hatred they are living with.

Support your fellow Americans and slap down racism, even if it feels subtle to you. On the other side, it's not subtle.

#5091 4 years ago
Quoted from Who-Dey:

I think the real story is that people in this country now hate China's government, not Asian people that are living here in the U.S. or even the people that live in China.

That's not the story I heard. I'm sure it is a large minority of citizens, but racism is on the rise due to Covid, whether you like it or not.

#5099 4 years ago
Quoted from arcademojo:

People will see racism wherever they want.
I guess we can blame Canada's leaders then also.
"Chinese Canadians speak out against racism, misinformation in wake of coronavirus"
Here is their racism Quoted from post.
"More than 9,000 people signed a petition calling on the school board to keep children whose family members had recently traveled to China home from school for 17 days.
"At times such as this, we must come together as Canadians and avoid any hint of xenophobia, which in this case can victimize our East Asian Chinese community," school board officials wrote."
So asking for people that just traveled to China to be quarantined is now racism. Sorry I call that smart.

Are you really that simple? I wasn't trying to attack the USA. I was relaying what I literally heard on the radio at the time. Of course we have racists too.

Quoted from Who-Dey:

I have no shame at all in admitting I thought this was not going to be a big deal. I am always changing my mind on things as they evolve. I don't know everything and never claimed to. I am right a lot more than I am wrong but I was wrong about this. Big deal

You were wrong about the biggest deal in your lifetime, and the science was right in front of your face. Maybe time to be introspective?

#5219 4 years ago
Quoted from Who-Dey:

I'm not a scientist. What do you want me to do kill myself for being wrong about something? Go on National TV and tell everyone that I'm an idiot or what? Lol

No, just reevaluate the way you consume and process information. Your the one who doesn't think it's a big deal that you failed to understand what was true. Said so yourself. It IS a big deal.

#5223 4 years ago
Quoted from Who-Dey:

Gotta love the people that are being so boastful about being right about this don't you? Of course if they ended up being wrong they would act like they didn't say that we were going to have a crisis like this.

Gotta love people that spread disinformation and then play the victim when they're called on it.

Quoted from wrb1977:

He admitted he was wrong.

No need to tell someone how to think. It is NOT a big deal he was wrong...no lives were lost because of his opinion...he was not making decisions that affected anyone’s life.

Once again, he was man enough to admit he was wrong. No harm...no foul.

Love the logic: admit your wrong and all responsibilities for your actions disappear. I can simplify my point of you like: people should try to learn something from their mistakes. They should care about them.

Now that you're on your horse to the rescue, please, let's hear you attempt to distort and deny that simple message...

#5269 4 years ago
Quoted from chad:

Honey is the best , pure item and works. I generally will ramp up jalapeno, serrno, habenero and manzunu peppers in stir fry or salad. Oh yeah garlic too!

If you have an itchy throat and are coughing alot, gargling water with a teaspoon of cayenne pepper thoroughly mixed in will stop the itch. The burning of the pepper feels like scratching on the itch. Have to do it about every hour. Way better than the numbing spray.

Quoted from dirkdiggler:

Serious question for you guys. Would you go see a doctor or risk a hospital visit right now? I'm pretty sure I need to see a doctor but not even sure there's physicians servicing my area and would have to go to a ER at a local hospital most likely.

I was in the middle of testing with my doc, and I'm putting it on hold until probably January or so. That's the earliest I see this ending... In our house, we're only going to the doc/hospital if we're seriously and immediately ill. That's just us though.

Quoted from Who-Dey:

I really don’t quite understand WTF you are talking about or so upset about. What responsibilities could i possibly have for thinking this would not turn into the shit show that it has? Im pretty sure that about 90% of the population didn’t think that this would happen. You are acting like I’m the surgeon general or something and i told everyone in America that nothing was going to happen. Give it a rest dude. You already have heart issues so please dont have a heart attack because some dipshit named Who Dey on the internet didn’t think there was going to be a pandemic. I mean seriously, that’s just stupid.

Ugh... reading comprehension.. again! Where did I say I have a heart problem? Never had a single issue in my life.

For you and your crew of deniers: Far, far, far less than 90% of the population thought this was "fake news." It's only the Fox crew that thought that. Most of the first world was amazed at the response. You supported this response.

You said you were wrong, and that's great. I commend you for it. But you also said you didn't care that you were wrong, a point you notedly left out in your reply. I simply responded by stating that you should care, and, sorry, I'm right. You should care. You should reconsider trusting Fox. That's it. But your blinders are on yet again. So run blind. Run free. I won't run with you though because, as we all know, my heart is such a concern.

True colors shining through. Don't be afraid.

#5333 4 years ago
Quoted from Who-Dey:

You have mentioned that you are in pretty bad health many times and i thought you said that it was your heart. I could have swore that you said that you have had heart surgeries? My thoughts on this virus were not from watching fox news, they were MY own thoughts. I don't sit around and watch the news all day But when i do Fox news is my choice. Shoot me i guess for not liking Don Lemon on CNN or Rachel Maddow on MSNBC.

You mention MSNBC, not me. I mentioned that I am in testing with my doc a few posts back, and that's yearly bloodwork for my yearly physical. I have never had a surgery in my life, and I'm in good physical health.

The only thing I'm debating you about is caring about being wrong. You don't care, and I think you should. That's it. Let's agree to disagree and move on.

#5335 4 years ago

I have to wonder, how many people are truly out of work? I'm working from home. People at my old company got furloughed for 2 weeks. At my current company, we are moving at 100 mph since we serve the parcel industry (FedEx, UPS, Amazon).
Are you out of work? With or without pay? Temporary or permanent?

My wife is a pilot and she's on reduced hours and will likely be demoted to a smaller aircraft then laid off. My hours have increased because I'm an online specialist in my department.

It's probably going to be like the 30s. About 30% of the population will be screwed. The rest will be fine.

Interesting to see the way people respond to our gov'ts aid package. What bugs me the most is that many of my fellow citizens cry for free-market capitalism, which has it's good and bad points, until the handouts start flowing. It's amazing that people who max out debt, don't save a dime, and bitch about paying taxes are the first in line and the loudest when shit hits the fan.

I do agree that those who need help should get it - those who need things like food and shelter and keeping a business alive - but if irresponsible consumers need to sell some assets to get by, that's life. The government's role is not to support quality of life, especially at a citizen's convenience.

#7613 4 years ago

Clearly you guys have been stockpiling food. The trolls are being fed very well!

#8376 4 years ago

By basic logic, the numbers 100% have to be higher than those reported, a lot higher. Our province is considered to be one of the most vigilant in testing, and we're still completely unsure of actual numbers. The numbers are an educated guess.

I'm not a conspiracy nut, but I do see it as the government's best interest to lie. They will keep lying and bumping the date of "return to normal" to keep panic at a low. We will continue to see extensions in the self isolation recommendations. There is probably only one leader that actually thought it would go away pretty quick.

China has a history of posturing ("nothing wrong over here") for ages, so they are definitely lying about their numbers.

One thing most scientists agree on, from what I've read, is that herd immunity is only possible with a minimum of 50% (most likely 80%) getting the virus. This is why we're trying to flatten the curve. Most of us are going to get it unless a vaccine comes very soon, and it's going to take a long time for this to get through a population that is isolating.

My best guess, from a guy who took one undergraduate statistics course lol, is that social isolation will go on until at least July at best and December at worst.

The countries that let their elderly die will be done with this much quicker. I've heard 3-4 months and it's pretty much gone, along with Grandpa Charlie and Grandma Sue.

I was the one saying you can't be racist against any race , and anybody who knows me , knows how many different friends I have that are of different races . Not that that matters , I treat everyone as equal , it's not like I'm looking to get a diverse group of friends , if we get along we get along .

Been debating with friends about what's happening, what should happen and what will happen with regard to covid. Here's a summary:

1. What's happening -Many smaller cities and areas are flattening the curve very well, maybe too well. Numbers are down, and society is at a stand-still, for the most part. Things are happening possibly too slow. Major centres have far higher numbers, and will get through the horror much quicker, likely too quick.

2. What should happen -This is a tough one. The concensus that I'm hearing is that there is no way society will last like this for a year. There is no guarantee that there will be a vaccine. Two possibilies that might work: (1) Enforce strict adherence to masks, sanitizer etc. everywhere and impose steep fines for those who do not follow. Open up half (less crowded, interactive parts) of society and work diligently to protect the elderly. (2) Enforce all of the first solution except for age groups. Let out those under 25, no restrictions. Then move up to 35 and so on, all the time protecting the elderly. These ideas will only work in smaller communities, but shouldn't we have our hospitals at around 50% with covid if we plan to get through this without a vaccine? We simply cannot bank on a vaccine, unfortunately, and the economy, not just money, but our entire system that pays for our social programs, must start its recover soon.

3. What will happen -The governments don't seem to have a part B figured out for this pandemic, so the lockdown will remain. More people will join the protests and refuse to self-isolate in less than three months. They will stop following the lockdown and the virus will overload the health system everywhere and we get all the bad results that we've been trying to avoid.

I'm not sure if any of this is correct, just what I'm hearing and thinking. What do you guys think?

#12294 3 years ago
Quoted from PinMonk:

Don't get your news from Fox News. They have LOTS of opinion, and precious little fact. There's a reason Rupert Murdoch has massively lawyered up recently. He's preparing for massive lawsuits over the half-truths, misdirections, and lies broadcast on Fox the last couple months. You don't hire an army of lawyers if you're innocent.
Watch PBS Newshour instead. You'll be quite surprised at how much more accurate actual journalism is over time, and PBS is a great source of old-school, impartial news coverage.
Also, Birx is shill. You can't believe 80% of what comes out of her mouth, she's owned somehow. Fauci is more honest, his ratio is the inverse of Birx - believe about 80% of what Fauci says.

PBS, npr, Al Jazeera, CBC in Canada, BBC... Lots of good news sources that are far less biased.

“At Ad Fontes Media, our mission is to make news consumers smarter and news media better.
This is a tall order, because we have a big problem in our news media landscape: too much junk news. Junk news is like junk food, and just like junk food has caused massive health epidemics in our country, junk news is causing a massive polarization epidemic.
We are optimistic that together, we can rise to this challenge. It is imperative that we do.
A problem this big requires a multi-pronged solution and participation from all the stakeholders in good journalism. Our focus is on the following:
“We analyze and rank news content and display those rankings in a way that is easy for people to understand.
https://www.adfontesmedia.com/?v=402f03a963ba

That reminds me of the time CBC tried to add some junk to get more eyes and ears. Man, did they get an earful. Made me proud of my fellow Canucks.

Honest question, have you ever been outside of the United States? Every time I go to the countries you mention, I don't want to leave. My country has consistently been ranked pretty high on the livablity scale. I've traveled extensively, and I've never heard a single human being respond to their home country the way you profess.

I hope that a return to Quality becomes a side effect of this current predicament.

High hopes there. You're talking about reversing inter-generational societal norms. These take decades to change and require constant pressure and legislation.

Please don't take this as political, but your system is close to beyond repair, regardless of who leads. Ours is always just a step behind. Good times!

Quoted from Who-Dey:

I know one person who's relative died of terminal cancer and her death certificate says she died of covid 19, plus we are reading that this is happening a lot. I cant prove that to you just like you cant prove to me that it isnt happening but I believe it to be true. Once again this is the pandemic that never showed up and you know it's true also if you are a doctor. I doubt seriously that you are being overrun with coronavirus patients. How many have you personally had?

"Argument from ignorance (from Latin: argumentum ad ignorantiam), also known as appeal to ignorance (in which ignorance represents "a lack of contrary evidence"), is a fallacy in informal logic. It asserts that a proposition is true because it has not yet been proven false or a proposition is false because it has not yet been proven true."

I would suppose you might not consider my sources legitimate either, making it kind of pointless, even if there was room to write a thousand pages of "war and peace" on this forum post. Besides, it would probably just be "controlled", and not published. Taboo topics, you see. You'd have to expand your own research instead of me spelling everything out.
Another thing that is not legitimate is your use of the word "evidence" for the subject.
For some people nothing will ever correct the tunnel vision, closed mind, or clinging on to the hope that what they have been led to believe must be how things really are. Also it's just easier, isn't it?.
It isn't really the peoples fault, we're only human right?. Just some devisive mechanisms at work, and well oiled.

That's one loooong-assed logical fallacy. LoL.

Quoted from razorsedge:

You would most likely not have access to a vast majority of the information, not legitimately, anyway. I am not trying to make anything "political". "Politics" is a big part of the problem. Trying to put it aside is a good idea I think. I was trying to get to freedom of information, which seems limited at best.
I could show that if you like?, demonstrate, but you might not like it.
Just like with some of the realities of big pharma. Some people Wouldn't like it, or may refuse to even consider some reasoning. Reality sux in other ways than people will be able to believe sometimes. Money, and stuff, and things.
Also sometimes things are better than people can believe. I don't know too much, but when the story says 2+2=5, and some distractions thrown in... it's a reasonable time to be asking more questions. Deadly virus is very real, that is no question. Many other less obvious questions that really need asking, and they don't all have answers when they should. Also Questions sometimes that one might not even think needed to be asked?
I'm happy to help, where I can. It's kind of limited though. I am sorry. You are not alone. I am not alone... We are not alone.

This post was surprisingly worse than your last. To summarize:

"I don't believe any of your sources because it's so hard to get access to good information. I can help you to understand this, but I won't because you won't like what I say or refuse to believe what I say."

LoL. Please take a course in logic of you want to profess logic to others. The irony here is mentally painful. You literally hurt my brain.

Quoted from razorsedge:

All you have done is Pretend to quote me, which you have not, only Misquoted, made it seem as if I said things I did not, and show your own shortcomings for logic. Maybe try testing your sources, rather than just thoughtlessly swallowing whatever is plopped in front of you?. Yes information can be harder depending the geographic location, no issues here, but not all are so lucky. One of your mistakes appears to be poor assumptions. Translated my words to mean your own thing, to reflect only yourself.
If you read a little more carefully, I in fact said I can demonstrate, as a Question. I guessed some would not like it, I never said I would not demonstrate if a demonstration was wanted. If you believe big pharma is rainbows and unicorns, you may not like it. Some simply don't want to know, it's just too hard to process. That's all.
Please correct your misquoting, thank you.
I really am happy to help where possible. I can understand too, why people would get a bit upset at realising they've been hoodwinked. Cheer up though, it's not all bad news!.
This is a meta example for you, of what can fool people, the mentality, hopefuly simple and very easy to understand:

Read the comments. It's worth it. Tries to put a lighter spin on something dodgy, slightly comical at the same time as not trying to make people feel stupid, it is very well done. For some people there is hope, and their eyes may open. There's some basic lessons or arguments for logic in there, I hope it helps in some way mate. Honestly.
For Most people this vid is just some light hearted entertainment. Some highlights of the clip: "Hopefully you are familiar with Rain", and "Oceans don't have wings!" ... I lost it Pmsl

Summarization is a form of interpretation, not quotation, and I never offered an opinion on your content, just the logic or lack thereof.

Canada continues close to 4k per day infections...vaccines here are staggered and unorganised. I'm lucky I live North and the lineup was short but it was very long after I left on the first day of my age group vaccination.
Lineups in toronto are long and frustrating, according to local news.

In little Lethbridge, the process was streamlined. Booked an appointment online. Showed up. Paperwork for 1 minute. Stuck the next minute. Wait for 15 in a cubicle to be sure you don't turn into sloth... Done!

I did get the AstraZeneca, which gave me the chills about six hours later, even in a scorching bath. I'm feeling better now. I'm assuming a response is better than none as some ppl apparently don't react to the vaccines at all and are not protected (20% - your mileage may vary).

I'd recommend everyone plan for potentially being down for 48 hours with any of them. I didn't realize symptoms appear in 1 in 10. I'll update tomorrow to let you know if I get worse.

Again, I'm GLAD I have symptoms. Get a damned vaccines if you can. Hearing about ppl who survive covid makes this a walk in the park.

I'm still a bit tired on day four after first AstraZeneca shot. It was pretty rough, but way better than covid!

Quoted from Daditude:

How does everyone feel about mask wearing in your area?
Should we continue? Stop? Slow down?
I'm curious to know.

It really shouldn't be a question of anyone's feelings. The evidence is pretty clear. They help. We need to curb the spread until the levels are way down.
