Quoted from CrazyLevi:

I got a question doc:
Isn’t it too little, too late, and too half ass to “flatten the curve” to a point where we do better than Italy?
I live in nyc and the past two days I’ve seen sweaty guys with no shirts on playing half court basketball In groups of 10. If that’s going on here in nyc I can’t imagine how seriously the rest of the country is taking this.

They're not taking it seriously around here either. If the bars and restaurants were still open they'd be full. I dont know if its denial or ignorance, but most people dont appear to give a damn.

Quoted from o-din:

Our governor is showing optimism like no tomorrow. All our leaders are. But they aren't sugar coating the reality of the situation.

I cant say I'm feeling any optimism as it stands right now. I wish there was a little light coming through at the tunnel, but that could be months away.

IDK if this was posted already, but This is an editorial on a report co-authored by Dr Fauci. Interesting thing to note is that the 2% case fatality rate is based on cases with pneumonia. If that's true, then there are literally millions of people that do or have had this virus already.

I feel so lucky right now to work for a small company run by an intelligent and compassionate guy.

Thats a rarity.

Sometimes it's better to have an international perspective. The facts make this pandemic a lot less scary IMO.

I was initially very concerned about this pandemic and wanted everything shutdown for as long as it takes to get past this mess. And While I realize that this is still a dangerous illness for the elderly, those with compromised immune systems and anybody that has to work at hospitals with the seriously Ill, guys like epidemiology professor Knut Wittkowski from NYC are having me second guess our tactics with a complete lock down. He's not an outlier among experts in epidemiology in his way of looking at this pandemic.

Quoted from JodyG:

Don't forget....hitting the peak doesn't mean it is over. You still need to ride the wave back down again. And if everyone decides its over as soon as totals start to trend down, we will start to rocket up again in another 7-14 days.

It wont end until there's herd immunity which is somewhere in the 70 to 80% range of the total population. I've seen enough of the experts talk about this to realize this is the way it will be whether we like it or not. On the upside, the NYC area maybe closer to this than they realize .

Quoted from arcademojo:

A UPMC doctor on Thursday made a case the death rate for people infected with the new coronavirus may be as low as 0.25% — far lower than the mortality rates of 2-4% or even higher cited in the early days of the pandemic.
https://www.pennlive.com/news/2020/04/umpc-argues-covid-19-not-as-deadly-as-feared-says-its-hospitals-will-shift-back-to-normal.html

I've read interviews from a handful of other epidemiologists that pretty much said the same thing.
