Quoted from onemilemore:Curious for the medical professionals in this thread to weigh in on vaccine approvals for under 12s and if they think it'd be safe to accelerate. I've seen the American Academy of Pediatrics call for EUAs to happen now, basically, and sending my 10 y/o to school every day...sucks, if we're being honest. It's scary right now.
It really shouldn't be scary. There is no rush to accelerate. Around 400 kids in a country of over 330 million have died from Covid. Most were before 12-18 year olds were getting vaccinated. Almost all had serious chronic medical issues. So the odds of a kid in the U.S. dying of Covid is around 1 in 1 million. Far less so if the are healthy. And about 100 to 1,000 times less than that if they are between 12-18 and vaccinated. Kids should be all going to school without masks. Their statistical odds are greater of dying in an auto accident on the way to or from school over the course of the year.
