Quoted from wrb1977:

You would think that but it does not.

Still about that "wishy washy" thing...

#3590 4 years ago
Quoted from wrb1977:

Forgetting about what is right or wrong for a moment...President Trump has no authority to override the decisions of each individual State. He cannot “order” businesses to reopen or to close.

Still internationally we only see him and without judging him (to not spawn a political discussion)... he, uh... kinda changes his opinion quite rapidly?

#3594 4 years ago
Quoted from Zablon:

Almost like his mood is based on the market direction?

It's your president not mine, so I refrain to comment,...

...but beeing who he is he spawned an international discussion about social darwinism, wich really isn't helping.

(I'm sitting, helping out in a hospital at the moment. - On a break.)

Some "general" info that may or may not have been posted allready, coming to you from my butt sitting working (*cough*) in a local hospital:

Plz note that even if you're not a high risk group, in case of a severe infection, you'll most likely survive but are also likely to stick with a constant lung damage.

To reduce the risk of any inflamation/ prevent that from happening, plz. stroll around for at least 20 minutes a day (and expose some Skin to the sun to genrate Vitamin D, wich reduces Inflammation risk) and... eat a lot of curry, because Cucuma is also very good to prevent getting an inflamation.

This is not some Vodoo mumbo jumbo, it actually helps (you and me):
https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S1297319X10002708
https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/19594223

Also of course eat healthy (Vitamin C helps the immune system in general).

Stay healthy!

Quoted from Trogdor:

Interesting- but need study which shows reduced inflammation increases chance of CV survival. Ibuprofen is anti-inflammatory but they thought that increased risk.

That Ibuprofen thing is hard to explain but yes, in this case it's counter productive.
You can have an inflammation because of different reasons, Ibuprofen won't help you if it's due to a virus (as I understand it at least).

Quoted from Trogdor:

Now, backtracking from that claim- hard to study. You would need to suppress immune response to decrease inflammation- is that good idea in viral situation?

To put it easy (plz note english is not my mother tongue):
Calcitriol connects to Vitamin D and has the effect that the cells know better how to differenciate to... well, what belongs here and what does not.
Therefore it surpresses "unneccesary" immune response AND helps to keep the virus from connecting it's proteins to the cell. Same goes for cancer cells.

"You don't belong here!"

Quoted from Asael:

„You cannot have a baby in one month by impregnating nine women“.

I'm willing to test that!

#4369 4 years ago

There's allways a middleground.

You can't justify a "shutdown" to the public, before at least a small turd hits the fan; but you can not deny the whole situation and do prepartations.

Like silently getting tests ready, for free, so you know what you're dealing with and ramp up hospital capacity accordingly.

I'm in a hospital in germany; Situation isn't much different to the public but internally we were preparing since january.
(Of course we have problems as well with idiots stealing desinfectant and masks.)

Just read that:

"Trump Says That Due to the Democratic Governors of Washington (3,369 Coronavirus Cases) and Michigan (3,657 Cases)—the Latter of Whom He Calls "the Woman in Michigan"—Not Being "Appreciative" Enough of Him, He Has Told the Coronavirus Task Force Head "Not to Call Them""

https://twitter.com/SethAbramson/status/1243671436931272709

So... "I feel insulted, so I let people die!"?

WTF?!

So what is the rule for moderation? We're not allowed to post quotes from politicians during the most important political moment in the last century? Back to Netflix I guess....

That escalated quickly! XD

Quoted from Zablon:

A new FDA-authorized COVID-19 test doesn't need a lab and can produce results in just 5 minutes
https://www.yahoo.com/news/fda-authorized-covid-19-test-033823184.html
"Unlike the rapid tests that have been used in other countries, and that received a new type of authorization under an FDA guideline that doesn't confirm the accuracy fo the results, this rapid testing solution uses the molecular testing method, which works with saliva and mucus samples swabbed from a patient. This means that it works by identifying a portion of the virus' DNA in a patient, which means it's much better at detecting the actual presence of the virus during infection, whereas other tests that search the blood for antibodies that are used in point-of-care settings can only detect antibodies, which might be present in recovered patients who don't actively have the virus."

How it tests is how all current tests work; looking for antibodys would take way more time but will be helpful later on to determine who may stroll freely.

That a machine does it for you and not a laboratory is the cool thing.

Doing hundreds of tests at once in a laboratory is still faster tough but that device is cool for on location usage.
Still have to produce it very quickly to benefit from it.

Quoted from PinJim:

I had the same thought. How do they even do it? Converting a car factory to a ventilator factory with the snap of a finger? Seems impossible. Maybe I’m just not up to speed on how quickly you can convert a machine from making plastic part for a car to plastic parts for something else. Same applies to motors, electronics, etc. Not to mention setting up assembly lines. I guess they’d just forgo QA?
I’m not sure I buy it.

As mentioned a bit above. We started that process with VW but thats only industrial 3D printing of some parts and how helpfull this is is still to be seen.

Of course I want it to work.

Quoted from wrb1977:

My brother lives in Nashville and was very sick at the end of November thru the beginning of December. He told me he had never felt that sick in his entire life and just figured it was a case of the “bad flu” that was going around...now he wonders if it was the coronavirus. Without test data from back then we will never know the answer.

If he really got sick but his breathing was still good it‘s more likely to be a severe influenza.
Sadly we have no widespread antibody tests yet.

Quoted from zr11990:

So a bunch of liberals from either side of the country and a bunch of stupid kids who think socialism is awesome so they can get a free ride can destroy this country from the rest of us. That makes a lot of sense. I for one think the founding fathers were geniuses.

Social Isurances, healthcare and free education help everybody and strengthen the system.

Better education = better jobs = more money = more taxes

Less poverty = less criminals = people feeling safe = less guns = less people shot dead

#4457 4 years ago
Quoted from Zablon:

You can't really go by the numbers - sounds odd to say...
But the problem is a) differences in amount of testing as well as who is getting tested b) people dying who were not tested/confirmed
Each country is kind of doing their own special math...

In addition the GB hospitals are usually allready over capacity during normal flu season and BoJo was one of the Deniers if I recall correctly.

Quoted from CrazyLevi:

I can’t believe there’s still people who think bleating “fake news” is in any way clever, or bolsters any kind of argument.
I miss actual debate.

The only debate you can have is Economy vs. Health, in wich everybody will sooner or later stick to the latter as soon as a relative, friend or colleague dies.

Edit: Oh, ok, and about your President, but that is forbidden by forum rules.

#4485 4 years ago
Quoted from PantherCityPins:

Yes and no. We have enough ICU docs and respiratory therapists to manage the load I would think. The problem will be trained ICU nurses.

For your sake I wish you‘re right but I wouldn‘t believe it. You‘d need 5% of your populations ICU beds and ventilators over 6 months, while each bed is occupied for about 3 weeks - if you don‘t „flatten the curve“.

#4537 4 years ago
Quoted from Pinballs:

Relatively few tests done (only those admitted to hospital until recently), so the denominator is low making the mortality rate seem higher. By contrast, Germany does a lot of tests and has an apparently low mortaliy rate (0.5%) for the opposite reason.

As said just a few posts above, that is one part of it. The other part is the GB health system...

If you want to have a more relieable percentage just compare the death count to the number of people who had to get intensive care.

#4602 4 years ago
Quoted from cait001:

one thing that gets me is the math looking at the global numbers:
Deaths: 30,835
Recovered: 141,468
So of all the people that got Coronavirus to the point where they have been tallied and are now through with it, 17.9% have ended in death.

You're not obligated to report that you have cured, so don't take this numer too serious.

Man, you guys can't even last 10 minutes without posting a political inflammatory post.
Should be first post moderated since the warning.

I didn't wrote/ discussed anything political.

Just posted a satiric picture, wich usually falls under art.

(But I'll stop to not ruin Foreceflows day.)

Maybe worry about the Fatherland!

I worry about people.

#7468 4 years ago
Quoted from cooked71:

Germany might be more proactive and therefore testing a wider range of the population.

If you need compareable numbers just compare how many people need intensive medical care at the moment.

That'd be about 4000 people in germany and about 6000 people in the US at the moment.

This 4000 beds is what we (countrywide) would under normal circumstances be able to spare, so everyone gets the optimum medical attention (and that's propably why deathrates are still compareably low).
(But this of course can change quickly, if you don't slow down the infection rate and expand capacity.)

why don't you guys tell me where I'm wrong here

If China was a "communistic dictatorship", noone would do business with them, therefore noone gere would've gotten Corona.

If China is a "communistic dictatorship" and you do business with them, you're a co-perpetrator.

You choose!

#9291 4 years ago
Quoted from arcademojo:

China has had COVID-19 (Coronavirus) in its Wuhan lab for SEVEN YEARS.
Could this be true?
https://gellerreport.com/2020/04/china-cio-terror-covid.html/?utm

"She runs the website, The Geller Report, which is registered through her organization, the American Freedom Defense Initiative.[31][32]
[...] In November 2018, the website falsely claimed that Michael Flynn had been cleared of criminal wrong-doing in the Russia probe.[31] The website described the Russia probe as a "coup" against Trump.[31]"

Objective driven "journalism", so no credible source.

#9310 4 years ago
Quoted from arcademojo:

LOL. Please tell me what news source isn't objective driven and hasn't had many retracted (false) news articles. Go ahead I need a good laugh.

We're talking about a 1-person no supervision whatsoever newsblog here.

And yes, there is objective journalism if you're in for paying the people doing it and not let them write articles for clickbait and sponsored agendas.

There's a lot of countries that have compulsory charges for people to pay the broadcasting network, to work outside of any profit motivation (intentionally not influenced by the government also, but that varies widely).

Objective journalism informs you. It does not spoon feed you things they've allready judged (!) for you.
At the moment the television "news" tell you "this is a move by the XYZ to make ABC look bad" and you eat this up, you've been taken for a fool.

And to get back to Covid:
The concrete answer to every question is: There IS no concrete answer, only estimates and assumptions!
There is no answer yet what'll come. So that Fauci guy may seems wishy-washy to some, but he's the one being actually reasonable.
The opposite would be to state completely contradictory shit every other week. - Wonder who'd that do?

#9430 4 years ago
Quoted from cait001:

Anyone here interested in preppers and prepper culture?
I'm listening to this podcast wnycstudios.org/podcasts/otm/segments/why-preppers-werent-really-prepared-pandemic
"Why Preppers Weren't Really Prepared For The Pandemic"

I got kind of a prepper since I lived a while abroad where a typhoon could (way too regulary) cut you off for a while - but I use to have stuff (food, water, oil and a solar generator) for 2 weeks around. Not a long period of time.

I NEVER THOUGHT OF HAND SANITIZER OR TOILET PAPER BEING UNABLE TO PURCHASE FOR MONTHS!!! XD

THERE IS NO CLIMATE CHANGE, IT'S STILL SNOWING SOMEWHERE!!!

#10279 4 years ago
Quoted from woody76:

even on the worst corona virus death day, it still does come close to these things that will never shut the economy down. May 1st is coming soon boys, time to put your big boy pants on.
1 day totals
26,283 people died of Cancer
24,641 died of Heart Disease
4,300 people died of Diabetes
Suicide took 3024 lives - and this rate will rise daily as the economic downslide furthers
Moreover, Mosquitoes kill 2,740 people every day and Snakes kill 137 people every day.

What you don't get is that if you don't stop the spreading, you'll have 1 Million deaths a day worldwide for half a year, and this is only with optimum healthcare and a death rate of 2.5%.

If you just don't give a shit that'd be more like 10% and 4 Million people dead, EVERY DAY!
