Harris County in Texas just issued lock down effective tonight (3/25/2020) midnight.
Got my 'essential business' letter to show should it be needed. Just hope there are businesses near me that still need our products.
In the mean time I could ramp up translite creations.

Goes by 2019 tax returns.

And they extended this filing deadline until July 15, 2020 so those who have yet to file get to wait even longer?

One thing this has taught me: I always thought I’d be terrible at homeschooling the kids. Just seemed like it was not in my wheelhouse whatsoever.

I think many parents will come to that conclusion, teachers deserve a pay raise!

Where’s the other $900B going?

That is a Need to know item, and we don't need to know?

Let's see. If I go do something productive and come back in say three hours,

Wait, I thought you were going to do what you did yesterday? That implies you actually did something productive yesterday?

Quoted from PantherCityPins:

To get a nasopharyngeal sample the swab has to to into the nose about 4 inches or so and reach the back of the throat. This is uncomfortable and I think a lot of people aren’t going to get a good sample and you will see false negatives.

Cripes, I gag and cringe just thinking about that, agree, most would be ineffective testing themselves.

Haha just got an email with this:

“Per the statement issued by Governor Walz, Squeegee Squad is classified as an essential services provider”

Window Cleaners are an essential business. Gotta have that crystal clear view as the world burns.

Wow, funny what is "essential". I shared a link from a local news outfit here that listed what was essential, would have been MUCH shorter to list was is NOT essential!

NOT a political post, and if covered earlier, my apologies.
https://www.cnn.com/2020/03/31/politics/trump-coronavirus/index.html
So now the President is being 'honest' by 'leveling' with America about the pending severity... questions:

1) why NOW?
2) this late in the game, might sound like the boy who cried wolf?

I mean I for one feel it is going to be bad so why was there such sugar coating?

#6189 4 years ago
Quoted from wrb1977:

We are slowly being “heated” and brought up to the boiling point in a pot of water instead of just being thrown into a pot of boiling water...if that makes sense?

Yes, good point. I figured something like that, just have to wonder (hindsight) would we have taken things more seriously from that start and perhaps lessened the impact.

it doesn’t mean there is a 50% chance of rain in your area, it means they project 50% of the viewing area of their station will get some sort of rain that day.

I have actually heard one of our local guys use that exact terminology, sure helped not get sooo mad when my specific area did or did not get what was forecast. After all the Houston AREA is rather large!

That statement by Trump was SO disingenuous. You can't even hide under a rock these days without hearing about testing issues.

Quoted from phil-lee:

A lot of "Empty Hospital" videos popping up, just wondered if anyone in these areas could explain or verify if they are real or bogus. The big Hospital in New York was featured by several people, they all looked like ghost towns.

Could be things similar to this one where the landlord says NO:

https://www.click2houston.com/news/local/2020/04/02/county-city-discussing-bellaire-hospital-availability-after-landlord-says-no-coronavirus-patients/

My 'OPINIONs' on China:

1) much higher population density that U.S.

2) larger population living in poverty (i.e. difficult to isolate)

3) media even more biased (being state run) that in the U.S.

I don't believe for one moment our numbers are higher than theirs. Like was said a moment ago, statistical improbability.

Anyone else's car getting 3 weeks to the gallon right now?

I'm not saving on my fuel consumption but tolls around here have been waived, I'm saving time and funds on my commute these days however!

#8643 4 years ago
Quoted from PantherCityPins:

Will we see sub $1 gas soon?

I know I'm in the minority, but god I hope not.

My incentives are directly proportionate to the cost of a barrel of crude thus I'm ok paying more. And since my incentive is exponentially greater than the fuel cost I incur, it's a no brainer. But I do feel for the balance of the country when we are at $2.50 and some are a buck more / gallon.
The refinery coast, we have been / are spoiled.

So have any of you guys been able to get hand sanitizer where you live?

We have been fortunate enough to have sourced over 30,000 gallons so far, and currently sitting on over 20,000 gallons. Our company 'acquired' all that could be produced from a local distillery through the end of May.
We've been shipping it everywhere under the sun. It's just pure denatured 80% Ethanol, but it works. Primarily going to automotive, facilities and food and beverage producers and chemical plants.
I'm actually getting worried we might have too much as I'm starting to get SPAM from competitors advertising they too have sanitizer. All be it about 2X what we are sourcing it for. I've heard Specs' is selling it, Lowes has gotten supplies.

Thus it's making it's way around.
Keep in mind we are working with just ONE local distillery, and there must be thousands of them in this country likely doing the very same thing.

How many gallons can I put you down for?

Non Buffet story. Wife and I were at our local favorite pizza place. To our left a table with 4 moms and about 9 kids.
I notice one of the kids taking the parm shaker and licking the top of it, then passing it around to the others. The funny part was when they licked the red pepper shaker.
The worst part was when one of the moms caught the kids doing it and just put it back in the middle of the table w/o saying anything!
As soon as they left, I did advise our waitperson whom quickly snatched them up and brought out what I assume were new ones but I'm just saying, it ain't just the buffet that is an issue! Stuff can happen anywhere.

Mask debate...
Think about this for a moment, do masks work? Um YES, why do nurses and doctors wear them in hospitals?? They wore them BEFORE the Covid 19 pandemic, they wear them currently, and they will wear them AFTER the pandemic. How else could one explain the fact they are not ALWAYS sick from what the ill drag into the clinics??? If they did not work, wouldn't we have a 100% infection rate among the health care workers. Psst, they also wash their hands a lot too.

Lot’s of coughing in a Florida Costco today. I’m an idiot for going in there…

In the grocery store this weekend, most were mask less, lady walks past us, then a few feet away coughs, and clearly did nothing to cover it.
I told the wife, THAT is why we are still wearing our masks!

Why do people insist on learning the hard, and permanent way!?

Quoted from RTR:

Days later he was admitted to a hospital with Covid. Spent 55 days on a ventilator, 8 months in hospitals, had to have a liver transplant and will now spend the rest of his now immunocompromised life being very kind to someone else's liver in hopes it doesn't bail on him. His rural ruggedly independent county is 69% UNvaccinated.

Sadly I think this is what all the other anti-vaxers / anti- maskers will have to endure before they come around.

We may be on the Zeta variant before this happens too.

#24228 2 years ago

I wonder how many people have reconsidered the shot but are the type that just can't be wrong. Thus they WON'T get the shot now as that would be admitting they have a fault. For goodness sake people, don't be one of those on a death bed admitting to being wrong and praying the vaccine will help when it is far too late

How many stories have to be posted of strong nay sayers who only end up dead "from a little cold" before we can admit fault?

Anyone else think this could be the case in some folks?

And pediatric unit beds for Covid kids, is now a huge problem.

Quoted from PantherCityPins:

The F-ing point is that if we all get vaccinated and the amount of people with COVID in the hospital goes down then when YOU get sick with something or crash a four wheeler or have a heart attack YOU aren’t sitting in an ER somewhere for days on end because all the beds at the major medical center are filled with people who wondered WTF the point was.

So the owner of our company lives in Beaumont TX, his dad got ill this weekend with heart issues. The closest facility with the specialist that could take him was in Dallas, DALLAS. All other facilities close by were full! Good thing it wasn't an 'emergency'.

WTF! Mask up again people, geesus.

Quoted from Wolfmarsh:

It's really hard to educate people who actively refuse to get educated.

One of my attorneys, whom one would think is a pretty well educated fellow, unbeknownst to me was a huge anti-vaxer, he is going on week 6 suffering with "just a little cold".
I'm eager to hear what he thinks now, should he pull through.

Setting: very rural town in Alabama, specifically Washington County, my mom lives there so, yea, um, I believe her:

47 y/o female, contacts Delta, passes away from complications approx 3 days after diagnosis.
Her parents (my mothers neighbors), in their 80's both of whom had NOT been vaxed, received their first shots 1 day after their daughter was in the ground.

WHY, WHY, WHY does it take the above scenario to convince some people?

#24706 2 years ago
Quoted from ForceFlow:

I think they don't see it as a real thing until it affects them directly. It kind of shocks them out of the reality distortion field that they're living in.

Oh, yes, I'm sure that is a big part, their political leaning is a part. Also I know this specific community feels "isolated" enough from the big city not to worry.
OOOPs !

I just wish, hope, families like this didn't wait for it to become personal to get a freaking clue!

Governor of Texas just tested positive. Anyone know if he was vaccinated?

Am I am ass for lol'ing when I read that?

Rhetorical question folks, the answer has been and will always be yes, just ask my wife.

#24842 2 years ago
Quoted from cottonm4:

But at the same time he talks about the "know your rights" and it seems that more people listen to the "know your rights" mantra than pay attention that their governor did get vaccinated.

The above, and this:

https://www.cnn.com/2021/08/18/politics/greg-abbott-covid-19-texas/index.html

"It's not about freedom -- we have never had the freedom to endanger others knowingly -- but rather about civic responsibility. We are all in this together, and the actions of one impact many.
That elected officials like Abbott continue to prioritize political calculation over public health is deeply disappointing and, candidly, selfish."

I don't often agree with that "news" agency, but those last two statements seemed to speak volumes.

Quoted from RTR:

Another unvaccinated conservative radio host, Phil Valentine (right here in Nashville TN), has died from Covid. A Fauci bashing, Covid downplaying, "vaccine cautious" influencer, he had a death bed change of heart about vaccinations over the last month.

Well, to his credit, the vaccine didn't kill him.

Doc, I applaud your patience for repeating yourself over and over again for the non believers.

Thank you for being a continued great source of detail, I for one sure do appreciate it!

#25249 2 years ago

I am starting to think every anti-vaxer is going to actually have to contract Covid before we are "out of the woods".
So far, in my circle of people I know of who are nay-sayers, track record is going rather well. Most of them are either recovering from or suffering with it currently.
Any tables out there to predict how long of a process that would take if hard headed folks continue to deny this is a real sickness?
Would that be called 'natural' herd immunity?

Maybe this was covered back on page 2?

I think it's likely been said a few time in this topic already, if masks did not work against communicable diseases, why would doctors and nurses wear them treating patients in hospitals. Pretty sure they do!

#25638 2 years ago
Quoted from Trekkie1978:

They also don’t wear the same mask all day. Let alone for days, weeks, or even months at a time the way all of us do.

Add on top that they are trained how to properly wear them.

That is true, however, do you sneeze and or cough into your palm or arm, or do you spew your saliva / possible phlegm all over the environment and persons near by? Would a mask and sneezing into you palm / arm further reduce particle spread?

When you blow your nose, do you use a tissue or just hawk your mucus all over people and objects nearby? If you use a tissue, why?

Just got my 3rd hit of Pfizer. Had no issues with shots 1 nor 2. Hoping for the best with this one.
I think the worst part was the damn line at the clinic.
Only 3 cashiers, line out the door and only 5 masked folks in site, I was 1 of them.
But in light of the possible alternatives, meh, 1 hour is worth it.

Happy to report no issues from booster, might have had a very slight head ache last night but thankfully, seems the booster and I agreed.
So curious about how others have faired, specially when does 1 nor 2 had a reaction but the booster did. A very curious thing.

Be well everyone!
