Thanks!

And yes, with .006% of the world population testing positive of which I am not one of, and me rarely getting ill, I'll take my chances.

This is something I put up in one of the closed threads 46 days ago. Seems like a lifetime ago. In those 46 days, the daily death rate is averaging 585 deaths per day. But, averages, only tell one small part of a picture.

Then:

GM is required to start production, not sure of specifics, but they don’t have a choice

What kind of ramp up time is involved in this, I would imagine it is months at best?

#4219 4 years ago

Just got a new high score on my Bad Cats.

But I must confess, being 57 years, overweight, having diabetes and high blood pressure (even though they are in control by medication) I am getting a bit scared. Not only for myself but my two cats if something serious happens.

Good luck to you all.

I'd prefer Honda or Toyota make my ventilator.

Much sooner and here is what GM said prior to the DPA act being used. According to the article a plant in Warren Michigan will start making medical masks next week with 50,000 being able to be made per day. Go GM!

This talks about what I posted earlier regarding an earlier possible timeline of the virus and everyone mistaking it for the flu/pneumonia.

Quoted from swampfire:

At this point we're just fighting math. 30% increase per day makes me want to become a loan shark:[quoted image]

I posted this chart about 8 days ago, and I was off by a day for the 100k mark. I’ll hedge for the 1M mark, because I think/hope we’re slowing this thing down. With a 20% daily growth rate, we won’t get to 1 million until April 10, which ironically is Good Friday.

Also...we’re probably at the point where we need to start looking at deaths per day to get a better idea of where we really stand. Inconsistent or no testing here makes the # of infected pretty useless as a forecasting tool.

Oh, and it should have said April for the 1M date, not May.

Editing to add this: if the growth in the death rate holds steady at 30%, we’ll also be looking at over 60,000 deaths by Good Friday.

Not true in first part as far as ventilators. They hadn’t lifted more than a pen on production. Also the bulk of the high price was cost of retooling.

So now GM gets to eat the cost? Does the government get to decide the price? That’s where I am fuzzy.

EDIT: also he wants them to reopen a plant that shut awhile ago and recently sold. How’s that going to work?

Quoted from Atari_Daze:

Sure. Good that they will survive a bit longer.

Are you going to deny the use of a GM made ventilator if you are hospitalized? 1000 of their workers are going to be making them and putting their own health on the line to save others. This is the first time since WW2 that something like this has happened. Be happy, and be proud that General Motors is the first auto maker in the US to start production.

I think that’s why he did it, they were supposed to be making them already and said they’d have 40,000 by end of April, then said they’d only have 6,000

Well I’m glad that GM has been ordered to make tens of thousands of ventilators that last night we were told aren’t needed lol.

I am happy to see the action. Speaks louder than words.

#4241 4 years ago

On the one hand, yay ventilators. On the other hand, daaaaaamn.

Eh, the other hand can worry about that stuff after everyone can breathe.

I think theres a big benefit in using the DPA in that it will light a fire under the ass of companies that are thankfully already stepping up to the plate to make medical equipment. Theres a big difference in someone telling their boss "sure, I'll have that done in two weeks" and your boss telling you "you have 3 days".

I'm going to make my own using this UF professor's design. I've already got most of this shi* in my garage.

It's one thing to do this at home...it's an entirely different thing to actually go out in public.
