Wow.

I wonder if his doctor told him he's 100 percent incapable of dying from COVID as he is an in-shape athlete.

Building a sandcastle is difficult when 40% of the people on the beach spend their day knocking them over.

Doesn't matter much where the beach is located.

Since omicron wave:

My sister and fam caught it from elementary school.

My brother and fam caught it from their kids indoor sport practice.

My brother in law x2 caught it from a Vikings game or the after game bar hopping and brought it home to their families.

My cousins large family all got it from somewhere.

My uncle and aunt caught it from the hospital they work in (my uncle runs the Covid testing labs for their network, aunt is Covid nurse).

Of all of these my fully boosted sister, my not boosted and many pre-existing condition brother and my anti-vax cousin had bad reactions. (as in all vaccines, he homeschooled his kids to avoid having to get them vaccinated way back when).

Brother looks like he is out of the woods. So far no significant residual effects.

Sister got her taste back but still has some brain fog.

All my cousins kids are now fully recovered, but he struggles to climb two flights of stairs. No preexisting conditions other than being over 50 and he is an avid biker/runner. Says one flight of stairs is like biking 40 miles. Two flights is like 40 miles uphill. Still says he regrets nothing.

I've somehow avoided Omicron.

I had Delta (probably) back in the summer and triple vaxxed so maybe that helped. Also maybe I'm just lucky.

Haven't been hiding out at home, but haven't been going to huge super spreader events either. I did change my mind about Magfest (though I probably would have gone if the pinball tournament TD hadn't gotten COVID and canceled the tournament). Have been doing small dinners with friends and have had small groups over to my place to flip.

I do have a Judas Priest concert to go to at the End of March, and I won't be missing that as long as it happens. Maybe we'll have a shiny new variant by then!

Quoted from DaveH:

From a different article about him: "I think the world is watching what is going on with Scott," Holsten told FOX 9’s Paul Blume. "And as he gets better and better, we are going to see that you know what, there are protocols that should be used that hospitals have not been using. And I am hoping that changes are going to be made as a result of this case."
(Note: Holsten above is the families lawyer)
From me: I’ve been through having someone I love be on a ventilator from Covid, and the emotional roller coaster that comes with it. I sincerely doubt there has been no other organ damage after this much time, but hey, modern medicine? It sounds fishy that his family is saying they found out about his planned disconnection by reading a chart. I found doctors and nurses to be much more communicative than that.
I understand their desire to fight, but Scott (the patient) will never be the same. They are holding out too much hope here. It was time to say goodbye. And believe me, I remember exactly how much that day hurts. But after that, all they are doing is torturing him. Even if he lives, it’s going to be a disaster for him.
Finally, I saw a picture of the family around his bed, with two people wearing their masks around their necks. In a hospital… in a Covid ward… next to a person dying of Covid… and this is the family wanting to change hospital protocols…

I know it is a bit ghoulish, but this whole case just has my attention. Like I said, they should have said goodbye a while ago rather than sue the hospital.

However, they won the suit to be able to move him. The Life Link flight went great, because his oxygen saturation only went down to 61... (don't worry, it gets worse). However the new doctors were finally able to administer Ivermectin, nutrition, and fluids to start to get his weight back up (he lost 30 pounds since going on the ventilator). According to the wife's lawyer, he is now communicating through blinking and hand squeezing.

I listened to a podcast that has talked to the wife in the past. I usually don't drive to crazytown, but I got curious. They were accusing the hospital this guy was at of murder (not of this guy, for this guy they were accusing them of attempted murder and intentional abuse). Premeditated murder, accusing a certain Dr F of creating a self spreading bioweapon, and a whole host of other things. They got pretty dark, but fortunately they were able to find all the exact people to blame for each step of this, from creating it, giving it to Scott, down to the fact that they have killed so many people with Remdesivir (which they know, because people get worse when they take it).

And finally, the kicker, they stated that "when you hear these stories, it starts to become painfully clear, that these people are intentionally killing unvaccinated people!". I went back and listened to that again, because I was like "did he just say that???". Yup, verbatim.

Fortunately they had a set of vitamins for sale that would eradicate the self spreading bioweapon, along with protecting you from all the other NIH bioweapons like flu. They had the only cure you needed. Fix you right up.

Now that Scott is out of the killers hands, they are looking forward to the day they can interview him in person... Yeah, in person interview with this patient. Good luck with that.

Ok, that is enough walking around in the sewers. I need to go wash my shoes.

Quoted from Pinplayer1967:

I don't understand your comment making fun of testing, it's a valuable tool and you are making it political when it's not. I feel much safer being able to test if I have Covid after I've been exposed to someone infected with the virus or if I'm having symptoms before hanging out with my family and friends or going to work. If it spreads too much at work, we have to shut down. And my parents are 84 and I have friends and a partner that are immune compromised, minimizing their exposure and chances of getting sick just might help save their lives. Being able to test can help people normalize their lives and spend time with family and friends with less risk of spreading infection, it should make you feel safer not just for you, but for your family, friends and community. We are all in this together.

Quoted from sataneatscheese:

Well. My youngest tested positive yesterday. Bad news it was a day of vomiting and being tired. Good news is we have to try and keep him still now because he's feeling better. Brought out an NES classic he's never seen. I'm essentially giving him a stack of 30 Nintendo games and telling him to have fun. He just asked us if he could be sick again tomorrow...[quoted image]

Well, the Covid is running rampant through my family. My 5 year old had it Monday and spent the day vomiting, but was just fine the next day. My 8 year old had it Tuesday, and was lethargic, but was better the next day and is 100% today. My 10 year old felt a little feverish yesterday, but is fine now. All are in virtual school for the week as case rates were high enough at the school to shut it down. My wife has had a little headache but is otherwise fine. They've all tested positive. I have so far avoided the plague and/or am asymptomatic. I think everyone will be well enough for the weekly HeroQuest game this weekend.

The good news is it does not seem to affect kids nearly as much as adults. It was essentially a day flu for them.

Not my post but pretty damn funny:

“ A lot of people have been asking me what it's like being on the COVID wards in the hospital, so I figured I'd share what a typical day looks like for me:

6am - Wake up. Roll off of my pile of money that Big Pharma gave me. Softly weep as it doesn’t put a dent in my medical school loans

6:30am - Make breakfast, using only foods from the diet that gives me everlasting life by avoiding all fats, sugars, carbs, and proteins. For details buy my book and check out my shop.

7am - Get to work, load up my syringes with coronavirus before rounds.

8am - See my patients for the day. Administer the medications that the government tells me to. Covertly rub essential oils on the ones I want to get better.

9:30am - Call Bill Gates to check how 5G tower construction is going, hoping for more coronavirus soon. He tells me they’re delayed due to repairs on the towers used to spread the Black Plague. Curse the fact that this is the most efficient way to spread infectious diseases.

10am - One patient tells me he knows “the truth” about coronavirus. I give him a Tdap booster. He becomes autistic in front of my eyes. He’ll never conspire against me again.

11am - Tend to the secret hospital garden of St. John’s wort and ginkgo leaves that we save for rich patients and donors.

12:30pm - Pick up my briefcase of money from payroll, my gift from Pfizer for the incomprehensible profits we make off of the free influenza vaccine given every year.

1pm - Conference call with Dr. Fauci and the lab in Wuhan responsible for manufacturing viruses. Tell them my idea about how an apocalypse-style zombie virus would be a cool one to try for the next batch.

2pm - A patient starts asking me about getting rid of toxins. I ask her if she has a liver and kidneys. She tells me she knows “the truth” about Big Anatomy and that the only way to detoxify herself is to eat nothing but lemon wedges and mayonnaise for weeks. I give her a Tdap booster.

2:45pm - Help the FBI, CIA, and CDC silence the masses. Lament the fact that I can only infringe on one or two of their rights. Oh well, there’s always tomorrow.

4pm - One of my rich patients begins to crash. Laugh as I realize I’ve mismatched her spirit animal and zodiac moon sign. I switch out the Purple Amethyst above her bed for a Tiger’s Eye geode. She stabilizes. I throw some ginkgo leaves on her for good measure

6pm - Go onto YouTube and see coronavirus conspiracy videos everywhere. Curse my all powerful government for how inept they are at keeping people from spreading “the truth”

6:10pm - Go onto Amazon and see that a book about “the truth” is the #1 seller this week. Question the power of my all powerful government. Make a reminder to myself to get more Tdap boosters from the Surgeon General next time we talk.

7pm - Time to go home. Before I leave, sacrifice a goat to Dr. Fauci and say three Hippocratic Oaths.

9pm - Take a contented sigh as I snuggle under the covers made of the tinfoil hats of my enemies, realizing that my 4 years of medical school and 3 years of residency training have been put to good use today.”

A bit off topic here, but disruptive passengers is nothing new. Who remembers the "Air Rage" indecent stories in the news back in the 1990s?
the airlines would do virtually nothing about it back then, and they're not doing much today. This is one of many reasons I no longer fly!

Anti-vaxxers are now putting hydrogen peroxide in nebulizers and breathing it to treat Covid and to try to prevent themselves from getting it. It's become common enough that the Asthma and Allergy Foundation of America had to put out a statement telling people not to do this with their nebulizers.

OK. We have had the Magic Dirt. And then the Viagra that is supposed to open the airways. One of the vaccines is made by Pfizer but the people will not take because they don’t know what’s in it and do not trust Pfizer. But golly gee, what company makes Viagra?

And then we have to “ go pee in a cup and drink it” and you will be all better.

And now hydrogen peroxide.

Oh, and lest I forget, when Covid was getting started, Jim Bakker ( Tammy Faye’s husband ) was hawking a waste-of-money product called Silver Solution as a cure for covid. The govt. shut him down fast.

I went to one last show last Tuesday. It's hard to gauge risk - if doctors can work with COVID patients with n95s, it should be good enough for a show I'd hope.

Either way, the band announced one band member and crew had COVID 2 days later. Can't imagine any show is safe for the band these days.

Just for any comparison....from several friends and family in the school systems in Orlando,

Between Teachers and Students, 20%-30% are out sick.
Some classrooms with under 10 kids.

Pretty significant, as others only see "Disney".

The show I was at required vaccinations and masks, but the whole mask thing falls apart when they serve food or drinks and all the cool kids think if they bought a drink, they don't need to mask the entire show. Meanwhile, the band isn't masked, what do they expect is going to happen when in a club packed with people?

That’s rough for Adele fans but at least there’s plenty to do in Vegas. David Lee Roth had to cancel his engagement too, including his New Year’s Eve show at the last minute. Bummer man!

From a friend in nursing school:

"I had a bad day today and I feel like my life is falling apart. Winter quarter is a lot and it’s doing it’s best to just neatly snap me in two. I hate fucking COVID and I hate hearing and talking about it and I hate taking chest x rays on young healthy looking people that are hospitalized with COVID. I hate that healthcare workers are being forced to work WHILE POSITIVE because “symptoms are lessening” so “just make sure to wear an N95” and entire departments are shut down because of a lack of staff. I’m tired, y’all. I’m done and I just started - the world is just a raw aching open wound and I can’t help but acutely just feel it all. I feel like everything is getting turned on it’s ass. Anyway. Might delete later, had to get it somewhere that wasn’t in my head and heart. Fuck COVID."

The moderation team has reached a decision to close this thread.

Although many of the finer points surrounding covid are still being discussed and debated, the fact is that covid is no longer a huge mystery to most of us like it was when it first emerged way back in 2019. Yes, we've all really been continuously discussing it since then.

Unfortunately, this thread has required a continuous and disproportionate amount of time and attention from the moderation team. We would instead like to try to refocus our attention on the main purpose and interest of this forum: all things pinball.

Special thanks to all the folks in the medical and science fields taking the time to comment in this thread, especially Pinball_Gizzard for his regular participation in this thread and patience with everyone's questions/concerns. I'm sure it made a huge difference to everyone here.

Since there are other sources of information and other discussion platforms available for covid-related matters, we would ask that you direct your attention to those places instead. Any attempts to start new threads here about covid or discussions/debates about covid within other threads will be deleted.

Thanks to everyone for participating in this thread and offering your comments, insight, opinions, and support. We hope that you all stay safe, healthy, and find happiness in pinball.
