Quoted from cottonm4:"One of the last things they do before they're intubated is beg me for the vaccine. I hold their hand and tell them that I'm sorry, but it's too late," Cobia wrote in a Facebook post Sunday."

I keep thinking about this quote. Here you are in the hospital. Your brave talk about not getting the vaccine has backfired. And as you are laying on the gurney, the nurse tells you it is too late and you KNOW you are going to die when they shove that ventilator down your throat.

Quoted from DaveH:

FALSE, unless "They" refer to people spreading misinformation.

FALSE

Ah yes, the ever-present "they". I don't know why they don't do something about it. If they would just fix this and that, then they might have a prayer.

Quoted from nwpinball:

I just went for a Covid test a few hours ago. I've been having cold or allergy like symptoms and it's mandatory to get tested or not come into work if you have any symptoms. Plus I'm going to a mandatory vaxxed party this weekend with 25 friends where they've asked anyone with any signs to get tested.
It's funny, this is actually my first Covid test and it's months after I've been fully vaccinated. But the Delta variant has already hit a bunch of local vaccinated people, so we can't be too careful at this point. The process was a breeze, I made an appointment online for 20 minutes from then and drove over. We have a drive by testing center in an old auto emissions testing place, so they had 4 lanes of testing and a very short line. It's the newer self swab, the whole process took less than 5 minutes.

Woo, no Covid, I got my test results in 22 hours. This is the first time I've been sick since January 2020, I think it's just allergies or a minor cold. I really liked not ever getting sick, one reason why I'm still going to keep up with the hand sanitizer, masks and social distancing to some extent going forward.

That is good news. I had a little sinus congestion and slight soreness in my throat yesterday morning so I used my netipot and it was gone within an hour. I think it was sinus irritation that often leads to sinus infection if I don’t use the netipot to flush it out.

It's been a while since people posted links in this thread to right-wing conspiracy hubs. Thanks for the nostalgic blast from the past, reminds me of my youth when I was only 45.

You're welcome Levi.

Is it true though?

Edit:
I think it's dangerous if we don't seek out information from all "sides" and sources.

If it's false, by all means, call it out! I have no issue removing a false story link. Just provide the proof.

I don't pander to one "side", and I would hope you don't either. The truth should be just that, regardless of source.

Labeling "us" and "them" seems archaic to me. "We" are divided enough.

There is one camp that says if we cut the $300.00/month Federal benefits then people will get off their asses and get back to work.

And there is this. From the trenches.

https://www.cnn.com/2021/07/23/business/restaurant-workers-experience/index.html

"Workers interviewed by CNN Business said they're struggling in the short-staffed environment. Servers are stepping into other roles as overworked back-of-the-house employees quit, and sometimes seeing their tips ebb as they scramble to keep up with the new responsibilities. Fed-up colleagues sometimes quit in the middle of their shifts."

"...many workers were laid off, as safety measures required some restaurants to close dining entirely. Eventually, when restaurants started re-hiring, they found a smaller pool of potential employees. Some moved away, others found new jobs in other industries. Some are still staying home to care for children or other dependents. Some, fed up with what are often low wages for the arduous work, vowed never to return.

" Morton understands why people might quit. After waiting to be seated, customers arrive at their tables "already angry, already wanting to complain about things," he said. A few weeks ago one employee started to cry because a customer was so mean to her.

"One of our first nights of reopening, some guy came to the bar and yelled at our manager. [He said] 'you need to hire more staff,' as if she could solve that problem right then, right there," she said.

( My guess is that the complainers are the same ones who did not wear their masks. But it is just a guess. )

Quoted from cottonm4:

The data from the states that cut the benefits proved this theory wasn't true. And I'm not sure everyone is on their asses, in the past 1.5 years alot of people had a Covid moment and changed career paths, retired early, moved to different areas, retrained, decided to spend more time living and less time working, etc. Some fundamentals changed and the employers that pay their employees the least are going to have to learn to adapt to this new world where people don't want their shit paying jobs.

#23719 2 years ago

Some positive news today. At our biweekly COVID update we discussed recent Ivermectin preliminary results which do seem to show some positive benefits. It’s still very early and there will be more studies to come in the next several months but so far it looks promising. Time will tell.

I just wonder what the husband who got half his large family infected tells himself? The wife nearly died and there she is being interviewed while on supplemental oxygen. They just weren’t sure about the vaccine yet.

Quoted from roffels:

Someone at some point should explain to me why some folks think that using the words "virtue signaling" is some kind of gotcha. "Look at this guy over here, caring about more than half a million people dead! What a virtue signaler, am i right?" "oh wow, this person cares about something. Virtue signal much? "
It's not like they're going around displaying their flag lapel or shouting political slogans in unrelated threads. Seems pretty appropriate to talk about the impact of covid in the Coronavirus thread.

Your virtues are duly noted. Back to enjoying my life. (The math still doesn't lie regarding unemployment though)

Quoted from cottonm4:

Some, fed up with what are often low wages for the arduous work, vowed never to return.

Way before the virus ever hit we were dining out one night at a pretty good place, and all of a sudden all this noise and commotion started coming from the kitchen, and someone in the kitchen yelling a bunch of expletives.

I can not remember what all they said, but loud enough that everyone in the restaurant heard what was going on in the kitchen. Someone was fed up and quitting, and being very vocal about it.

Sorry, your post just reminded me of that.

Anyway, I have noticed some negative talk about J&J here, but that is what we have, and we are 100% fine.

With any vaccine, you can still get the virus, and you can still spread the virus, so we need to stay careful.

BUT, if you are vaccinated, with any of the vaccines, you stand a lot better chance of not getting ill enough to have to go to the hospital.

C'mon, if little Johnny can get vaccinated, anyone can.

So what if it’s true? What’s your point?

I was linking to a self test for asymptomatic people. Apparently the link caused a stir, so I asked if the information contained was true.

No point per say.

#23726 2 years ago

Not to be outdone, the US continues it upward tick in cases with 118,791 cases reported on 07/23, up from 56k, 52k in the previous days. Hopefully this is not a trend and the daily case count can get below 100,000 cases again over the next week.

Might be a good time to visit Canada, with Canada only reporting 594 new cases for 07/23. Border reopens for Americans on August 9th.

I just got moderated and my post below was deleted
because it was Off Topic, (posted in one of the recent topics about the PHOF reopening)
I posted it in response to someone bitching about having to wear a mask again at the PHOF (by state mandate);
and the poster stating that he/she did not give a sh#t about Covid.

So I guess I need to re-post it here instead to stay on topic.

"Masking hurts no one, I do not see the big deal. Its easy cheap insurance. Its just being kind and courteous and conscientious.
If it was only about protecting yourself, I can see maybe not caring about protecting yourself;
but masking protects not only your self but others and innocents, as well.
My brother-in-law did not care about Covid either, up until he caught it in mid April 2021, 2 weeks later, my sister is a widow.
Sorry for the OT rant."

Again truly sorry I broke the Pinside Posting rules

A radio host who mocked Covid now has Covid.

https://www.cnn.com/2021/07/23/us/radio-host-vaccine-trnd/index.html

"For months, conservative Nashville, Tennessee-based radio host Phil Valentine has repeatedly made posts on multiple social media platforms telling his fans that if they weren't at risk for Covid-19, they shouldn't get the vaccine."

"Phil contracted the Covid virus a little over a week ago and has since been hospitalized and is in very serious condition, suffering from Covid Pneumonia and the attendant side effects," the family statement reads, which emphasizes that Valentine has never been an anti-vaxxer. "(Phil) regrets not being more vehemently 'Pro-Vaccine' and looks forward to being able to more vigorously advocate that position as soon as he is back on the air, which we all hope will be soon."

Maybe he will live and maybe do some good on the vaccine front.

Dude had 7000 followers on Twitter where he spewed his moronic narcissistic anti-vax “look at me” covid denial nonsense.

So I suppose he would be considered an influencer. Hopefully his completely senseless and preventable death will influence some of them to get vaccinated.

These stories are so easy to find now. They aren’t even ironic anymore, just stupid. Even Alabama’s governor is like smdh.

You get that? The governor of the state that thanks God for Mississippi is ashamed of the unvaccinated crowd’s behavior.

UK cases 31,795 yesterday (previous days 36,389, 39,906, 44,104, 46,558). Definite downward trend. Yet to see effects of 'Freedom Day' on 19th July, but anecdotally it didn't make much difference to mask-wearing and other behaviours.

Hopefully this will be the last significant 'wave' as % vaccinated continues to rise, and anti-Delta (and other variants) boosters are rolled out soon. Kids are on holiday for a while now too, which will help. But as ever, I'm probably too much of an optimist

We still do, and Ontario is almost at 70% vaccinated.

I wonder when you will no longer be allowed to wear a mask in a bank? Not “your choice to wear it or not” but “you can not enter with a mask on” I don’t know if we’ll ever get to that point.

So many people are worried about government surveillance with facial recognition, I wonder if some people will just continue to wear a mask whenever they’re out and about.

#23745 2 years ago
Quoted from tomdrum:

I was hoping to be mask free at Pinfest since I'm fully vaccinated. But with the Delta and selling at the show for the duration, I'll be masked. My local county (Centre PA) has very few infections but with the spike and people coming from all over, I won't risk it.

Quoted from rkahr:

I'm still planning to set up my vendor booth, but 100% of the time I'll be masked. I might bring a face shield too. I'm also thinking how to set up my 10' x 10' space to optimize distancing, but it really isn't much space to work with.

I'm watching the mayo clinic map somebody posted a little while back. With one week to go I like the present situation that shows the entire Northeast and all states adjoining PA are "in the yellow". If this changes for the worse my attendance plan will change too.

Here we are, the Sunday prior to doors opening in Allentown. On the national Mayo Map all the states surrounding PA except Maryland have flipped from yellow to Orange: https://www.mayoclinic.org/coronavirus-covid-19/map . There is no green - the key starts with yellow and has 7 coloring steps, so PA is one of the few states nationwide remaining at the lowest level.

Immediately local to Allentown, Northampton County (the county immediately adjacent to Allentown) flipped from yellow to orange on the Mayo Map yesterday: https://www.mayoclinic.org/coronavirus-covid-19/map/pennsylvania . Here is a google map showing where Allentown sits on the Southeastern edge of Northampton county: https://goo.gl/maps/xwbQHPrcxUBud2bd9 . Zooming in, one of the runways at Lehigh Airport is mere feet from the county line. My guess is the county border would be porous to the point of being invisible to the virus.

The New Jersey map is also relevant as NJ counties are closer to Allentown than many PA counties. https://www.mayoclinic.org/coronavirus-covid-19/map/new-jersey . Looks to me like a strong skewing to the eastern beachfront counties.

In all, it looks to me like the locals should be more concerned about us coming than we should be about picking something up from the locals. Hopefully a lot of folks will be following tomdrum 's lead re: face covering both in the show and in the hosting community.

Congratulations to the USA, what a dramatic drop in new cases for 7/24, down to 27,395 from 118k the day before. There must have been some states that double reported certain results yesterday as 118k seems like a very unusually high amount of new cases for a single day. This is the lowest total since 7/18! Even the UK continues it daily drop in cases down to 31k, from 36k, 40k and 44k reported in preceding days. Maybe we have turned a corner?

He talked a lot is smack even 3 days before dying so thinking it’s funny is natural. I think it’s totally hysterical. The show “1000 Ways to Die” which highlights Darwin winners like this needs to come back on the air. Sad part is it won’t change the minds of some his followers.

Three days before his death, Harmon tweeted:
“If you don’t have faith that God can heal me over your stupid ventilator then keep the Hell out of my ICU room, there’s no room in here for fear or lack of faith!”

Before his hospitalization, Harmon had made fun of vaccination efforts on social media.

“I got 99 problems but a vax ain't one," he said in a tweet last month.

He was only 34 years old.
