Google search: "cheers missing vaccination goals". That will take you there.

Looks like we're both being lazy

Quoted from PantherCityPins:

My experience is that the people who are not vaccinated at this point are probably 70% hard core against it for either political or anti-vax reasons. I’ve tried to debunk myths with these folks but it’s really like talking to a wall. There are some younger patients who have not been vaccinated yet and we might see some improvement in vaccine rates among those under 40 in the next month or so.
I’m not sure anything is going to convince the older unvaccinated folks to get the vaccine, as has been said above; once you are so deep into a way of thinking it’s really tough to break out of it.

I was leaving my Doctors office today and 2 really nice senior ladies joked to me while removing her mask I think when the lord wants me he will call!I replied better get your phone ready if your not going to keep a mask on inside a crowded Doctors office.

A couple tweets from a freedom loving 24yo anti-vax RN in Louisiana:

"This vaccine has been released using recombinant DNA faster than any vaccine in the world. It manipulates your DNA at the tiniest molecular level. Do. Not. Get. It. It's not safe,"

"Am I the only one thinking they are trying to see how much they can control us? We are a straight-up social experiment."

A news story about her recent (preventable and sad) death from Covid complications:
https://www.theadvocate.com/acadiana/news/coronavirus/article_c4f70fb6-e3de-11eb-95a5-cb7b3f1edb55.html

Louisiana has a spike going on right now and only 35% of the population are vaccinated. The article also highlights a 30yo pastor that died from Covid and doctors from local hospitals describing Covid patients coming in younger, sicker, and unvaccinated. Get vaccinated.

If anyone is on the fence about getting the shot like I was - do it! Here in MA almost everyone I know is vaccinated. No more masks. It is great! Plus, it gives me some sense of comfort knowing that by everyone getting vaccinated, my children who are not will be afforded some level of protection. My 73 year old Uncle in CA was infected with COVID last November. He called me last week and said he still can’t breath and has blood clots all over his body. He said he keeps thinking to himself - “is this how it is going to end?”. He is in the medical field. He wanted the vaccine. I wish he was out here - seems like healthcare in CA is slow. Can anyone in CA confirm this? In MA I know for a fact that all of his testing, etc. would have been expedited as well as a Doctor telling him to go to the hospital earlier. He was admitted for a few weeks in December. I feel very bad for him. I suppose at the end of the day I still believe In “you do you and I’ll do me”. Just offering a real life story.

Tragic. As >95% of over-50s in the UK are vaccinated, it will be the young who develop long covid (no-one knows how bad this will be down the line), get admitted to hospital and/or die, particularly as they are generally the socialisers and risk-takers, and last to be vaccinated. Average age of Covid cases in the UK is 25 or so.

I am not relaxed about having 50-100,000 cases per day just because deaths and admissions are lower, because there are still a sizeable AND AVOIDABLE number of deaths and admissions in absolute terms. We need to vaccinate more (daily numbers are down to 150,000 or less in the UK, from 0.6 million). We also need to maintain social distancing and masks, to stop wave 3 taking off dramatically.

Finally, I am very worried about what variant might emerge with a high Covid incidence in a mostly vaccinated population. Obviously, the evolved Super Covid variant could well be immune to the vaccines, and then we are in deep doodah. IMO this represents a much greater risk than Delta, which emerged in India in a mostly unvaccinated population.

In that context, I find the UK government proposals to unleash the 'natural course' of the delta virus utterly insane, because the UK will become (already has really) a variant factory. Thankfully, local authorities such as the London mayor, Wales etc are maintaining measures such as masks and 1m social distancing, even though the UK PM and banker health minister have lost their marbles (health-wise anyway, because these are sharp people and we all know why they're doing this).

Anyway, the UK is getting ready for a helluva ride as we unleash Covid! In your face, Sweden!

Looks like we're stuffed again .

They have now spread it in Victoria and we had 8 or 9 cases today .

Fuck it. One man. All it would take in this country to get the population to get vaccinated is the man who pushed the buttons to get the vaccine to the public in record time. He has had the vaccine himself and he has made a couple of mealy mouth, hand over your mouth type statements about getting vaccinated. But if this dude would shout it from the rooftops that you need to get vaccinated, we would have a better response, IMO.

But someone did not win and gets all butt hurt about it. The vaccination rate would improve tremendously if one man would quit copping an attitude.

One man. That is all it would take. As it is, he reminds me of the Pied Piper.

Quoted from 7oxford:

Not sure if it’s been covered in this forum but studies of US states, Scandinavian countries and several other countries show a correlation that those that had less people die of COVID per million also did better financially as measured by GDP.
Countries that kept covid under control did slightly better financially than those countries who tried to keep their economies open with less restrictions.

It was brought up and determined about a year ago by media, economcists, epidemiologists and polemicists, still quite tough to forecast how the long term effect will be imo as many countries are depending on each other.
Mortality and overall health is what should be of importance in the end and not economy.
It will take several years to get some reliable data on the full impact this will have on society, few countries has managed this well so far.
Luckily we have the vaccines in place now but its way too soon to relax.

It's crazy here, 3000 is now the allowed number during sitting events and 600 standing, tomorrow they will loosen up the restrictions even more.

Slow healthcare in California I dont think this is the case.Medical workers and essential workers were given the vaccine first so your relative should have had his shot available. We are vaccinated at a higher % rate than most other states 75 % in my county and most neighboring counties .We have same day availability for a shot.Need a shot just walk in.A 73 year old medical worker would have had the 1st or 2nd priority to get vaccinated when they were available.

#23516 2 years ago

Too many unvaccinated people are following CDC rules as if they are vaccinated. It only works for people who got the shot.

WHO is saying now that you shouldn't mix and match vaccines but the Canadian governments doctor's say it's ok?

European countries are considering a travel passport and won't recognize the astrazenica shot as a valid vacinine. It would be funny if Trudeau couldn't travel because he got the astrazenica shot and now we're (Canada) is giving all of our shots away to poorer countries

I think the recognition issue for AZ only relates to the Indian-manufactured batches. There were 5 million doses in 3 batches sold to UK early on, for example; the remainder is locally produced and no issues. Some countries like Malta are causing problems to UK tourists who received these batches, but I suspect this will be resolved quickly when AZ provides equivalence and quality data, and of course if EU countries want tourist pounds and dollars

UK cases today were 42,302 (vs 36,000 yesterday). Up, up and away!

The discussion here has been can an employer require a vaccine, and not get shot down by a legal action?

So far, I believe employers can do this.
Any additional knowledge? Is there anything related state to state?

Then our talk went to the Fed, as today an Anti Mask Bill in Public Transport coming from Rand Paul.
Could the Federal Govt change funding so that No Vaccine, No Federal ("Socialist") Health care help if you catch Covid?

Could Health Insurance companies Surcharge or cancel someone Not vaccinated?

#23525 2 years ago

This is interesting. Looks like England cases have been rising at a faster than exponential rate, but are now starting to slow down to 'just' an exponential rate (i.e. a straight line on a logarithmic curve). Best case- starting to move towards a plateau.

Just had 3 people in my family get diagnosed with Covid-19. These are 3 people that have refused to get vaccinated and have downplayed / mocked the virus over the past year.

One of the people diagnosed works with the elderly. You would think that alone would persuade that person to get vaccinated but nope. This is the same person that said to me "If I don't get the flu vaccine why would I get this"...ugh.

I honestly don't think it would make that much a difference. Maybe a few million more shots.

This is the one thing that the anti-vaxx "patriots" won't do for their leader. He's created a cult within his party, but the anti-vaxxers are so against it that they're not getting a shot no matter what. I work with a few of these and their excuses for not getting a shot are mind blowing. One guy claims that he personally knows 11 people that have died from the shot. 11 people. Good luck trying to ask him any questions about it though, he just knew those 11 people.

This is our reality and the Biden administration needs to realize that they'll never get to their vaccination goals.

Its funny how these folks are so set in their minds are never willing to discuss the situation and often instead of talking get violently upset at the thought of a discussion. No information in makes jack a dull (dumb) boy.No one wants to be exposed as stupid and discussion puts a light on their ignorance.

Here's one from a antivaxer we know. She claims that 3 people she knows got the shot then their cats got sick and died within a week. Lol. So she won't get vaccinated cause she has a couple cats.

I have trouble sleeping at night so I'll pick up the Ipad and read anything. Anti-vaxxers/Covid Deniers generally don't lock down their Facebook accounts very well, so it's an open book into their lives. I picked one that had family needing prayers and read their posts. Then I picked one of their friends and so on. Almost without fail, they've all lost immediate family within the last 6 months. One person lost both parents within a 5 month time span. None take the pandemic seriously. Not all the deaths are Covid I'm sure. Many appear to be overdose related for that matter.

You can do what you can to be safer, but even vaccinated, you aren't really safe. And it feels like it's just never going to end...

Talking of never going to end, today's UK cases are 48,553 (yesterday was 42,302, day before 36,000), with a not too trivial 63 deaths.

Sadly, Covid deniers are running the UK now, as their policy is 'let it rip'. And it is ripping. When mask wearing and social distancing ends in 4 days, it will get further ripped, not to mention when the effects of Euro 2020 kick in.

Clowns to the left of me!
Jokers to the right!
Here I am stuck in the middle with you.

Really what would change the entire ball game would be a covid variant that killed more people but the vaccinated didnt get it, like 25% or more death rate. Its probabably the only thing that will actually get the anitvaxxers to get vaccinated unfortunately. Its highly possible this could happen if we dont get a better hold of this covid as variants keep getting stronger.

#23538 2 years ago

This 24yo vaccine hesitant guy (he wanted to wait a couple of years to see if there are problems with the vaccine) doesn't even count as a death. Dying isn't the only risk. Get vaccinated even if you have to eat some crow! Hell, don't even eat the crow - get vaxxed and keep it to yourself if you don't want others to know.

Not sure what there was to disagree with in my post. Even the guy that is now waiting around for 2 new (to him) lungs and has a gofundme to pay his massive medical bills regrets his decision not to get vaccinated against the disease that has killed 607,000 Americans, is still killing about 9,000 people a month, and wrecked the health of many more. His entire family all got the shot and they are all fine.

These stories are easy to find. Get the shot. Encourage others to get it. Don't be that guy.

I gave the downvote because I don't feel this guy should be lambasted because he was hesitant to inject an Emergency Use Authorized Only vaccine into his system. Nothing personal toward you.

Ultimately, it didn't pan out for him, but it isn't like he was a nut case, just cautious. I fear too many people are just following and not taking a second to think.

You can go all in on pocket aces and still lose the hand. Just saying. The odds were probably in his favor, but shit happens. I'm certain lots of unvaccinated are fine, and lots of vaccinated are still showing symptoms. Or maybe not showing symptoms but not getting tested, so we'll never know.

To say I'm skeptical would be an understatement, but that doesn't mean I don't believe something isn't floating around out there. Trying to gather unsensationalized journalism, or just straight up facts and figures is getting hard to find. So many factors seem to change so often it makes it difficult to compare values.

I keep hearing how bad the Delta variant is, yet England is about to open up. Stuff like that makes me wonder. I don't believe it's just incompetence.
