Yes, they are starting to distribute doses of these experimental vaccines in the UK this week. Fortunately, I was able to have a conversation with my daughter this weekend who is stationed over there with her military husband.

I just recommended to do some research and perhaps wait until many other human guinea pigs have already gotten stabbed and see how it goes, considering we are almost a year into this pandemic and she hasn't even had a sniffle. Plus, it being such a rush job and that no successful vaccine has ever been made for any coronavirus yet. And who knows the longterm or even short term effects of it yet.

She's pretty smart and has already stated that is her position. Her husband may not have any choice in the matter though. I, personally, will not be getting one. Ever. Even if stimulus money or anything else is dependent on it as is already rumored. Freedom of choice not to be some medical experiment is still out there, at least in our country, no matter how much pressure or guilt trips others might try to force on you. And, if anybody does decide they will get one, that will be their choice and I will not criticize them for that.

You will all be happy (I hope ) to know that I just tested NEGATIVE for coronavirus.

Congrats!

And although I have not been tested, and don't foresee any reason for doing so, I'm still feeling great myself!

Quoted from nwpinball:

The scientific studies done on the effectiveness of various types of masks disagrees with you.

I know from whence I speak:

From MedRxiv:
An N95 respirator blocked 99% of the cough aerosol, a medical grade procedure mask blocked 59%, a 3-ply cotton cloth face mask blocked 51%, and a polyester neck gaiter blocked 47% as a single layer and 60% when folded into a double layer.

My comment was further in regard to the fact that many non-N95 masks are not worn correctly; I know, I see it every time I go out. It's hard to wear an N95 wrong because of how it goes on your face.

IMO, 47%-60% is a pretty poor level of protection. At 99%, you can encounter dozens of people for less risk than a single cloth mask encounter. Cloth is better than nothing, yes, but too many people treat it like it's at that 99% level rather than its true 50% level and act sloppy.

#20656 3 years ago
Quoted from bobmathuse:

Too many porous cloth masks. Get N95s people!

The thing I always think of when people say this is a video I saw on transmission a few months ago. Any mask is better than no mask. Sure, it would be great if we were all in the best masks possible, and I agree they should be readily available by now. But something is better than nothing. With 2 people around each other, 1 mask cuts down transmission a bit. 2 masks cut it down much more. Proper usage and wearing cut it down more. Distance between people cuts it down more. Better masks cut it down more. Being near less people cuts it down more.

In the end, it's just a virus that transmits really easily. Each barrier, even if it is cloth, helps decrease the odds of that transmission.

Wouldn’t worry too much about (at least one of) the modified rna versions being readily available any time soon for you anyway.

Looks like we passed on securing a significant number of doses. By the time we get our next bump, there will be millions of Europeans that will already have taken it.

Quoted from Azmodeus:

I was walking around target shopping for a couple things and I just looked around and took it all in. The strangest Christmas I have ever experienced.
Glad to be alive, all the way around.
I have a desire to start a mask company in America. A new one. As things progress, this idea looks better and better.
Can you imagine if I could produce masks and some of them, but not all of them could be absolutely free.
I hope to make this happen someday. It's a dream that was created in the Covid crisis for me.
Digression over...

It’s really discouraging that many of the US companies that ramped up production can’t find their ways into distribution channels that government agencies utilize. We are sending billions in taxpayer money overseas instead of creating jobs here. Here’s one that has taken to selling direct to consumers

OK, Im really pissed. I am Aware of Rebekah Jones work when she was the star of Florida State reporting.
She was fired when she refused to censure the numbers lower, earlier in the year, by DeSantis.
She continued, reported school numbers, and the nation. She often shared how the numbers were being manipulated lower.
Ive shared her work several times here.

Now, Im also aware of how significantly lower all numbers are through a variety of relationships.

This is what happened to her. Her home raided, and her computers confiscated, for "security reasons"

Quoted from mcluvin:

They think he picked it up at the new Buc-ee’s south of Macon. That place is a 24 hour a day super spreader event.

120 fuel pumps and a grocery-store sized travel store with multiple food stations. Huge, clean rest rooms with hand sanitizer by every urinal and stall.

I was at that Macon location two weeks ago. Masks suggested, but not required unless you "are in close contact with a Buc-ee's employee while inside". Not required at the registers as they have the plexi shields at every register.

An amazing place. Yes, I wore a mask even though not required. I Estimate that 75% of customers were wearing one.

He wants $3.75 apiece for his N-95 masks. That's a lot of money. Poor people and laid off people are going to get in line at that price .

Man, I was growing up all we used to read about was what was happening in the Soviet Union. Everything was propaganda. And we had Joe McCarthy accusing half the country of being communist. And now it sounds like we are becoming like what we used to hear about them.

We stopped there early afternoon this past Saturday. They definitely had very competitive gas prices and I regret not getting to try the Beaver Nuts. They were comparable to Sam's Club for gas. It was a mad house though. I'd estimate ~2/3 of the customers were wearing a mask with a percentage of those being full dick nose. I walked in and walked right back out. Way too many people in that place masks or not.

My family and I drove the 35 minutes to Wisconsin to enjoy dinner and drinks. We met up with some of my extended family and had about 20 of us head to another restaurant. It felt great to be out and about, none of us are high risk, oldest one is 56 and in great health. It's sad Minnesota is going to give up potential income and force closures to Wisconsin for nothing. Planning to head back over the river on Friday.

Been on the Michigan Indian Casino restaurant circuit as well as Toledo, Ohio where restaurants are open until 10pm nightly.

Is it conceivable that these vaccine(s) could be approved and released before the companies have published their results? This is crucial, because people will have lots of questions for their physicians about the vaccine(s). Without published data, the physicians will have no solid answers.

So, 20 of you went out eating and drinking at 2 different restaurants and gloating about it here? The closures are to save people from themselves selves.

I'm with o'din, will watch this experiment first. That being said there is no way in hell that I would take the Moderna one ...it was developed by Moderna and Darpa. Darpa is kinda like secret black ops research that is not publicly talked about. Yea that 100 dollar hammer ...10 bucks went to pay for the hammer the other 90 went to Darpa. The fact is there is nano technology in this vaccine and they state that its harmless...I seriously question that ....it may be true but there is one thing I know after serving in the the U.S Military ......the Military does not always disclose the truth and you can bet Darpa is even worse.... that I can neither confirm nor deny .......I will wait for the Pfizer one should I decide to go down this path

One thing I don't get - why even bother with hand sanitizer if you're not going to have near 100% mask compliance? The primary transmission is through droplets from people breathing. 25% of people not wearing masks seems like the bigger problem. Kind of like skydiving wearing a helmet but no parachute.

The new guy says he is going to ask us to wear masks for 100 more days. Not forever, only 100 days. That must be what the science is saying now.

Quoted from PokerJake:

It's sad Minnesota is going to give up potential income and force closures to Wisconsin for nothing.

Nothing? I realize I am on the far opposite side of this coin, but I still find it surprising when people say this is nothing.

Quoted from PokerJake:

Quoted from PokerJake:

I'm actually curious how this whole experiment works out. I don't gather in large groups, and I don't eat at restaurants right now. But you sounds like you are pretty sure the infection rate of the group will remain zero. So I hope you will continue to report the results of the entire group. Because the experiment goes against recommendations in Minnesota, I have to assume the entire group will bring the same cavalier attitude to everything. Therefore any case really is related, even if it was acquired separate from the group. Let us know how it works out.

Georgia regulations at the time.

Buc-ee's mask sign was written by someone trying to give you every opportunity to not wear a mask. It doesn't matter. It's up to the individual without enforcement.

I'm fine with people choosing to not get the vaccination as long as they make the vaccination mandatory for flying, staying in hotels, going to public schools, using public transportation, sporting events, concerts, bars, churches and restaurants. Keep the Covid carriers away from the rest of us. They have the right to not get the vaccine, but they don't have the right to get other Americans sick or kill them.

Do the rest of America a favor then: if any of you get sick - and I hope you don't- stay away from Emergency rooms. The last thing health care workers need, is to treat cavalier patients.
