Fat fingered from an iPhone. I’m sure I’ve accidentally downvoted long time ago. One reason I changed my settings to show upvotes only and don’t accidentally p/o someone.

Its no accident

Wife has noted an apparent shift in tone. Don’t get me wrong, she still got a “this whole thing isn’t real/a big deal and you guys are making it up for profit” today but now the more prominent theme is “where is my vaccine? Why won’t you give me the vaccine? I’m a better candidate than those other people. Why are you hoarding it? Where is it? Give it to me.”
People be crazy.

Oh wow. I don't mean to pry, but has this been a major source of friction between you two? There are some things people can disagree on and still get along, but I would seriously have a lot of trouble with such differing views on something so serious.

Predicted timeline for vaccine distribution and when herd immunity is achieved (from Business Insider):

Looks like April or May when most of us get the vaccine and herd immunity by next Halloween if enough people get it:

I'm bored with staying in, and yes, walks are nice.
Even the current TV programs seem to be uneventful. Just noticed a show called "Bridezillas", here's to hoping there is a large screaming main character.

I can provide some insight to this. My wife and have very different views on this COVID situation, I wear a mask out in public as does she, I do not where one at work for the most part, I work in an office with 2 other people and we all have separate offices/work spaces and maintain at least 6' distance when talking, usually shout to each other from our desks. She rotates working at home 3 days and working in the office 2 day, her coworker has the opposite schedule so they never interact. She thinks I am being careless with my job situation and we have blow ups all the time! She will go see her mother out of town, no mask! Have her daughter come over from out of town, no mask! Apparently her family members are immune to this And we fight about it! She says I don't have to go to her family functions if I am scared, I yell "that's not how this works" lot's of friction!!! Lots of yelling, but in the end cooler heads prevail! We make it work because in the end the virus might get one of us and spending time arguing is a waste of time!

I am sure this pandemic has caused and will cause a lot of friction between family and friends and even coworkers! But as long as you, we everybody understands people are trying to to the right thing to the best of their ability and nobody is perfect in handling this pandemic, unless you were able to lock yourself in your house back in March and never leave until you are vaccinated!

For us the virus will have to kill one of us, we will not split up no matter how much we disagree! Sorry for the ramble, but I hope this gave you kind of an answer.

Amazingly compassionate photograph. Why would someone downvote this?

Because even if you were suffering from a previous illness and the beer virus paid you a visit and subsequently you passed. The primary cause of death is blamed on the beer virus. When you are in your twilight years you have generally an underlying health issue, diagnosed or not. Posting an intimate moment to make a point is why I down voted.
It was no mistake. If feelings were hurt, it was unintentional, but I rely on information provided to me by my own investigations and choice of media.

My wife and I wear a mask anytime we go in somewhere outside of the house. At work we wear a mask into the building and get temp checked at the door. My area is fairly isolated. We have about 10 people in my office but we are all spread out so we don't wear masks once in the office.

In November I got Covid. No one else in my office area did. We walk past each other on occasion and share a bathroom.

Everyone in my family got it it. Including my adult daughters who regularly visit and the grandkids. My wife and I had a few rough days but the kids all were mild to no symptoms at all.

Not sure if that helps your argument. I just wanted to share my situation. I wear a mask everywhere but at home and once inside the office. The big difference between my co-workers and my family seems to be that we don't hug and kiss our co-workers.

I think you have a fundamental misunderstanding about how death certificates work. A good explanation has been discussed here previously by @pinball_gizzard.

Unfortunately, people often have blinders on when it comes to family, and it's one of the main reasons this thing is spreading so rapidly. To me, it's not that complicated. Unless you have strictly quarantined, you should always operate under the assumption that you are infected. If people want to visit with family members safely, then both parties need to isolate for a couple weeks first. And I'm talking STRICT isolation. No leaving the house for unnecessary errands. Nothing that puts you in close proximity to someone outside your home. If you are unable to do this because of your job or some other reason, then you need to accept the fact that you can't safely visit with your family right now. For example, I haven't let my brother or even my parents in my house since March. I'll hang out with them outside in my backyard, but that's it. I think if everyone was this cautious, we would be in a much better place as a country right now.

No. They just have been told a vaccine is just around the corner. It will be here in just a few more days. And they believe it.

I was tested yesterday, required, as I finally have back surgery tomorrow, and find out.

I started the process in February, and Covid caused it to be kicked down the road.

At the height of all this, Now, is when they will tackle me.

I truly hope I dont catch it, it is a death sentence to me.

It definitely feels like a crapshoot at times. Have had 2 uncles, 2 aunts, 5 cousins get it so far. The one that faired the best (asymptomatic) was the high risk uncle. The low risk under 40 yr old cousin was the only one hospitalized, and the one that ended up dying.

It is the seemingly randomness of it all that makes me feel off kilter.

I had to go in and have sinus surgery 3-4 weeks ago. Several trips to the sinus doc were involved. For each trip I had to go in 2 days early where I would be tested in the parking lot. If the test came up positive then I would have had to wait.

If they have tested you first, assume they are doing that for everybody. They don't want to take any unnecessary chances. I think there is high probability it will all be OK.

Now, good luck with you back surgery. I wish you well.

I am excited about the vaccines becoming available.

We are really going to need to push hard to support the businesses we love. Such as arcades and pinball, as they begin to open.

I am also looking forward to concerts and knots berry farm opening again. Hanging tight. Waiting for this storm to pass more...

I want to go to a banning event asap.

Fortunately no one I know has been effected by Covid in a way that will last.

Thankfully because I know not everyone gets to say that.

Looking at this situation and all the vaccines that are coming out at the same time, I think I have watched too many zombie movies, after all isn't it how they all started ...Pandemic + vaccine = zombies. Cancer + cure = zombies. Almost like Science Fiction predicting real life as it has done so many times in the past. Not looking forward to a Will Smith or Brad Pitt kind of future. I can totally understand why some people would want to wait and see what the side effects of these things are. And although I would really like to see our lives to get back to normal but I think I will hole up for a bit longer and observe what happens.

I hope this thing for as horrible as it is has been will teach us some well needed lessons.
like
Money is not the reason for living and it doesn't matter how much you have if your dead
we all need compassion and respect for one another so that in the next episode we will do the things we need to do to protect one another
we need to upgrade our existing HVAC systems to filter out germs and bacteria in places where a lot of people congregate.
we need to protect our planet so that food and water can be had that is not contaminated and produced in a manner that is not detrimental to human life
and that Isolation is not a good thing for most peoples mental health

the list can go on and on but for me I will be happy with getting back to some semblance of normal

change comes from within

As has been pointed out above, you have a fundamental misunderstanding of how death certificates work.

Bottom line is that people who have underlying conditions are more likely to die from ANY major illness. That doesn’t mean their underlying condition is their immediate cause of death.

For example, say you have diabetes and get pneumonia. You are more likely to die from the pneumonia than someone who doesn’t have any medical issues. If you die from pneumonia the death certificate will list pneumonia as the primary cause of death and the diabetes as a contributing diagnosis to death.

Same thing with COVID.

We are all entitled to an opinion, sounds like you agree with what I am saying that they blame the beer virus thus escalating the mortality numbers. If I read correctly.
But that is alright. I am not upset nor combative.
At the end of the day if you are dead you are dead and whether you or I are correct it won't change anything.
Discussion is good.

I thought this article might be worth sharing, comparing New Zealand’s COVID mortality rate with other OECD countries. And although we compare favourably the authors still found areas for improvement. I think some of the suggestions could be beneficially applied regardless of which country you are in.

No, I don’t agree with your statement at all.

If you have diabetes and COVID and contract COVID and die from respiratory issues you died from COVID. Period. The cause of death is the immediate cause of death regardless of whatever other diseases you may have. For example, say you have terminal lung cancer and get pneumonia and die. Pneumonia is your cause of death. Lung cancer is a contributing cause to your death.

All this “inflating COVID numbers” stuff is conspiracy theory crap. The reality is the COVID death toll is likely UNDER represented by the CDC numbers if you look at excess death in the US in 2020. The last numbers I saw showed about 300,000 more people died from January - October 2020 compared to the same time period over the last 5 years. The official death toll from COVID is over 260,000 so it’s safe to say that number is not inflated and likely is low.

I think that it’s great news that Bush, Clinton, and Obama all have volunteered to take the vaccine to prove it’s safe. Anything that unites people and brings confidence.

Here we go with the anti-vaxxers jumping on any scrap of alleged bad news they can find. If we vaccinate millions of people, some are going to have bad stuff happen later. It doesn’t mean it was related to the vaccine. Here is an example based on 10 million.

No anger here, just squashing the same conspiracy theories that people have been posting for months on end.

You are free to disagree all you like, it doesn’t make your position correct though. There are plenty of people who will vehemently disagree with you if you tell them the earth is round even though that fact has been scientifically proven for centuries.

Thats great, but he too could be wrong? There are way too many differing answers from different fields to say this is the only fact. The numbers of death reported are lunacy IMO. You can always pick an extreme measure to prove a point, but generally that's what people who aren't open to discussion do.
It all depends on where you get the information and how you ingest it.
Happy to be alive
