You left out the best part. The girl who took that photo was suspended from school for posting it.

It is a divisive thing, money.

But have we ever been this divided?

Quoted from noob-a-tron:

But have we ever been this divided?

Maybe it's just that people begin to notice it more, as pre-existing divisions become more evident.

Or the silent majority of reasonable people start to speak up more about stupid things, and vocal minorities... if nobody opposes or calls out stupidity, then stupidity will win.

Quoted from noob-a-tron:

But have we ever been this divided?

This virus has big time shown just how divided we all are.

Me: hell yeah I would love to go to the beach and then hit some bars at night like I used to.

But HELL no, I want to stay away from even a chance of catching this as much as I can.

The problem I have with this virus is that it is so random.

1. Some people never even know they have it. They feel fine.

2. Some people spend months in a hospital in very bad shape. And even after that they are still having problems.

3. A whole lot of people have died.

Me:

1. It would suck if I had it and I was getting others sick.

2. I hate suffering and anything hospital related (especially the bills even with insurance).

3. Not ready to die, going to be as careful as I can.

Anyway, with all this being careful stuff I can say me, and anyone that is around me has not even had as much as a cold so far this year.

If we could all be very careful maybe not only could we get rid of this virus, but maybe even the regular flu also.

That will never happen though.

While I am skipping beach and bar vacation plans this year, plenty of others are still doing that.

Quoted from metallik:

Sturgis is an interesting predicament..
Without the bike rally, a lot of the town would basically go broke. Many businesses rely on the rally for most of their income, it's the Christmas of Sturgis. The residents don't want the virus brought to town, but they also don't want economic devastation.
Best bet is for the locals to just lay in supplies and ride out the rally at home, and let the businesses do what they must. If the bikers are going to spread it amongst themselves, they do so knowing the risks.

60 percent of the townspeople of sturgis surveyed said they wanted the city to cancel the event this year.

That’s democracy in action as usual.

Say what you will, but nobody can be blaming the spread of COVID on New York. New York and Cuomo stepped down hard and got COVID somewhat under control.

The other states with different styles of leadership are paying a price.

Fact.

And there are STILL people
Saying “oh yeah? Well why does New York lead in deaths?!” As if it’s our fault.

We had zero warning and no head start and were blasted by 3 international airports and the largest, densest population in the country. And we still stomped the curve, relatively quickly.

You simply can’t compare it to the rest of the country, who had a THREE MONTH head start and still managed to blow it. No excuse at all, and no comparison. If the rest of the country reacted at the same time in the same fashion this would be over by now. And no “har har har what about nursing homes lol lol” changes that.

Quoted from cottonm4:

Spare me the 1st amendment crap.

This says it all. There are those that do not mind tinpot dictators deciding their control over your life doesn't stop at your front door.
Having a pinball party? Birthday Party? Bible Study? We don't like it, cut his water off.
This acceptance of overreach by so-called "Authorities" seems to be prevalent with people who live in Cities. I grew up in a City, got really tired of the constant new fees, regulations, controls.
Moved to a primarily agricultural Community and never looked back.
Once you relinquish your rights concerning your Home, privacy against unlawful search and siezure (utilities) it will only accelerate. Absolute power corrupts absolutely.
This virus is not an excuse to throw out hard fought for protections of rights, security, and freedom.

Quoted from CrazyLevi:

It's actually the perfect answer.
When my sister and brother in law had their first house, in Baltimore, their upstairs neighbors were obnoxious college students who threw parties. My brother in law discovered the fuse box in his apartment. Whenever a party ran too long, they'd just cut the power, and the party was over. 20 minutes later after everybody had left they'd put it back on.
The idiots upstairs never figured it out lol.
So yeah, for these morons renting houses and throwing huge parties - in violation of local mandates - it's actually a clever and perfect solution. I wasn't aware the "first amendment" granted you unfettered use of electricity, but I guess I'm not up on my consitutional studies.

You obviously enjoyed the power yourBrother in law held over "The idiots upstairs". If they had done the same to you when your guitar was blasting you would have screamed hell.
There is a subset of people who want to see the Authorities crush dissent with the longarm of the Law. They too enjoy having control over others when these people do not comply. Yet they are the first to join protests over police abuse of power when it affects them and they are labeled "The idiots".
Its for your own good. We do it for the children. We will decide whats best for you. You must comply, you must be mutual.
Once you give these maggots a little power its never enough, they want more.
Yes, there is a virus causing problems. It is never good to throw the baby out with the bathwater. Your acceptance of authoritarian control is obviously greater than mine, not a bad thing if you live in a big City, since you have no choice.
My new neighbor from NY told me wanted a better life, couldn't take it no more. There are a lot of people just like him looking for something better, this virus has brought out the worst in humanity and its escalating.

Why do people think like this. Several completely different approaches, similar curve, but different time frames. Every state could be doing better, no doubt. But there is an element of this disease having a natural course. That doesn’t mean you don’t try to limit it as much as possible through testing, masks and quarantine, it just means no one approach is foolproof. In fact, what happened in NY and NJ nursing homes was kind of a discrace. There are lots of disgraces and lots of mistakes being made everywhere

And yes, Sturgis is scary as shit.

If you call 33K deaths under control. LOL

I don’t understand why some people here continually down NY. The travel ban did not stop 60,000 people coming into 3 international airports from Europe early on in the year. This is fact. They went from being an epicenter to having a infection rate below 5% and 1000 people dying to several a day in a shot period of time. It’s not a fair comparison to make living in a less densely populated area like Collegeville, PA or anywhere else. It’s also a low blow to joke about 30,000 dead. If we haven’t learned this yet let me remind you that we are all in this together.

They could cancel it. Instead they just rolled out the red carpet like every year, despite the wishes of 60 percent of the citizens of Sturgis. If they had officially canceled it a month ago and forced all events to cancel, 250,000 people wouldn’t be streaming into town now. Of course you’d have some stragglers but there wouldn’t be 100,000 people
Rocking out to The Guess Who right now.

Some of that “we losing our freedoms!!” Stuff that Phil Lee is going on about. Forcing a super spreading event on a small town that doesn’t want it in favor of some money seems like a pretty bad violation of personal freedoms!

There have been spikes but I have seen no evidence of a unique spike attributed to any of these events. If Germany doesn't display one in the next few weeks no one will.

How would we be able to figure it out when you still do not have your location set to public?

Yeah, good luck with that. I've been to the Sturgis rally. The cops are scared shitless of anyone they perceive to be in a gang.

#17785 3 years ago

On Sturgis.....to me, its a shame, and a result again, of a lack of leadership.
I have no issue with Bikes, and Bikers. In fact, I manufactured ride bells for Sturgis for many years.
I found everyone reasonable, until recent politics.

What bothers me most is the news on Hair loss, like Chemo, happening for some recovered people.
There are also long term cognitive issues showing up even in asymptomatic people.
There is also the current studies showing "some" who are asymptomatic, or recovered having long term organ issues...
Brain, kidneys, liver, lungs....we just dont know yet.
(Although some still disagree with fighting herd immunity).

Viruses, Like Epstein-Barr, stay with you for life.
Spanish Flu is still here.
Yet Smallpox, we defeated after suffering "forever" trying Herd immunity.

This is a huge mess, and unless we have a vaccine or miracle, the half ass method of politicizing this for an election
is what gets to me.
We saw its ugly head again this weekend.

It's been known for some time, but not being fat is a great way to increase your chances of not getting seriously ill from this virus.

They are saying obesity is the number one cause of serious complications. Which also helps explain why the USA is and will continue to be number one by a wide margin until this is over.

Obesity certainly doesn’t help matters, but too many healthy folks are having nasty residual effects. Marathon runners that can’t go up flights of stairs without being winded, that sort of thing. Sure they didn’t die but...yikes.

Also, they are already warning that obesity may make the vaccines ineffective. So there is that too.

This school came across the news and Judy said this is the same school where her brother taught at. He said what ripped it for him was all of these high school kids coming up and getting in his face.

Starting Aug 12, masks will be mandatory in Walmart across Canada. Curious to see how they implement this. Are they going to have a security guard at each store? I can't imagine the usual senior door greeter trying to stop the ignorant assholes that you know will be kicking and screaming that they don't have to mask up.
