doh_covid19-_nhadmissionsreadmissions_-032520.pdfQuoted from metallik:When I see similar groups I just give them the benefit of the doubt and assume they quarantined together for the most part. Social bubbles they're calling it now.
This is something I hadn't heard of, but I just looked it up. I guess some people are willing to expand their shelter in place group by deaming others as "safe". They all agree to abide by certain rules and precautions, and then they can hang out, go over to each other's houses, etc ... It's an interesting concept, but my OCD would never allow me to put that kind of faith in another family at this juncture.
Quoted from metallik:Perhaps the no-mask folks have already had the disease? As time goes on we have to realize an increasing number of people will have put this thing behind them.
Most of the no-mask people screaming about their liberty being infringed don’t strike me as the types that would go get an antibodies test to see if they have had and resolved the virus ... and an amazing number don’t seem to understand that the masks are primarily for the protection of others.
Quoted from cottonm4:I am going to give this the ultimate test here an hour or so. I live one mile from Dole V.A. Regional medical center. That place has been locked down tight since this virus thing started. All gates, save one have been blocked. I need to get some blood drawn for an appointment next week. I'll see how far I get without a mask.
EDIT: I forgot to add that along with The VA closing all of the gates but one, there are also two checkpoints you pass through before you get to go park and go inside.
I just got back from my trip to the V.A. The parking lot is still shut down to one entrance only. There is only one way inside. All other entry doors are closed. You are greeted at the door with a 3-4 people all wearing masks. I had my mask on but if I did not I would have been given one; There was a large plastic bad full of masks. This is government. There is security. Only a fool would ask if he had to wear a mask, or refuse to wear one.
Quoted from jlm33:Sweden approach to Covid-19 (no lockdown) came with a price... 4,125 deaths for a population of only 10 millions.
(as compared to ≈200 and 300 deaths for neighboring countries, Norway and Finland)[quoted image]
That chart is going to change in different directions for different countries over time and is quite irrelevant regarding the Swedish approach, go back a month or two and take a look but we probably have to wait a year before we have a qlue to what has been a good approach to deal with this, and a lot of reports that media has created about what Sweden does (or dont do) is very misleading.
On April 25 Sweden peaked at 10.64 on that chart but since it wasnt the worst country that day there was no interest to make another great story, no suprise media didnt cared about that.
This whole thing is just sad and Im sure every country is paying a big price in one way or another right now and will do further in this pandemic too, cause this isnt over yet.

Quoted from PantherCityPins:I just don’t get the people that refuse to wear a mask on principle. It’s a little piece of cloth that you wear for 15 minutes while you’re in the store. What’s the big deal?
I’d ask those people the following questions:
Do you wear clothes? Clothes are there to protect you from the sun and the elements. It also hides your naughty bits but really the core reason to wear clothes is to avoid exposure. It’s keeping you safer.
Do you wear a seatbelt? Seatbelt laws are in place to protect you in the case of an accident. It keeps you safer.
Do you follow traffic laws? Those are in place to keep you and those around you safer.
If the above things are not an affront to your constitutional rights then wearing a mask shouldn’t be either. They all keep you and those around you safer.
I assume these same people also go to restaurants with no shirt or shoes and yet demand service.
Quoted from Bryan_Kelly:I just did a Home Depot and Ace Hardware curbside pickup. Watching people going in and out, it's about 50/50 on the mask wearing. Age and gender didn't seem to make a difference. Employees that brought the items out wore masks and were both very pleasant.
Weird, it's required at most places around here and generally people are compliant. I won't go into any store that doesn't require masks, so to me stores not enforcing that are basically begging me to go shopping on Amazon or elsewhere. Not a problem, I'm happy to take my money elsewhere.
Quoted from Gott1978:Latest information on mask wearing from the American Medical Association:
“Face masks should be used only by individuals who have symptoms of respiratory infection such as coughing, sneezing, or, in some cases, fever. Face masks should also be worn by healthcare workers, by individuals who are taking care of or are in close contact with people who have respiratory infections, or otherwise as directed by a doctor. Face masks should not be worn by healthy individuals to protect themselves from acquiring respiratory infection because there is no evidence to suggest that face masks worn by healthy individuals are effective in preventing people from becoming ill. Face masks should be reserved for those who need them because masks can be in short supply during periods of widespread respiratory infection. Because N95 respirators require special fit testing, they are not recommended for use by the general public.” (Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA); April 21, 2020 Volume 323, Number 15 https://jamanetwork.com/journals/jama/fullarticle/2762694)
I see that pinsiders down vote the American Medical Association. I'm done with this forum -- all the best to those of you who stay.
Do you have anything from the AMA from 1951 telling us that red meat and cigarettes are good for us, also? It’s outdated information. What did you want?
The governor of the State of Mississippi had a news conference today and stated that beginning on Monday, June 1, gatherings of people practicing safe guidelines can gather indoors in groups of up to 20 people. Outdoor gatherings are limited to 100 people, still requiring safe guidelines. Masks is still a big topic of conversation and is still being recommended.

Its an old article and the date on the article (4 March 2020) is older than what you stated it was (21 April 2020). Your post was misleading, the only question is was that due to a mistake or was it intentional. I assumed the later, I applogise if I got that wrong.

I hope you read a couple more posts down in the thread, the one that says this was from march and presented as the most current information at the end of may. That's why the down votes were there, its outdated material.
Masks are great. I bet big brothers facial recognition system is not working so good.
The difference between rich, poor...healthy, dead seem to revolve around something I call choices. Make good ones, this is not a pinball or video game. You don't get more lives or chances for another quarter.
Game over has a more sinister implication in real life.
Drove to the city of Toronto today, not downtown but 1 in 30 wearing a mask. I felt at least 10% smarter. Would my ratio be more like 70% because I wore my mask and gloves? Therefore is that not really bad news for all of us?
Why is not clicking in to people ??? The virus is still being studied.
Quoted from gambit3113:Do you have anything from the AMA from 1951 telling us that red meat and cigarettes are good for us, also? It’s outdated information. What did you want?
This was the same intentional mis-information being harped by the surgeon general, doctors, health professionals and anyone else that had a platform at that time. There is no new groundbreaking information that has since come out in the past Month. It was a lie then and now.
What will it be next Month? They have to get rid of acceptance of masks at some point to further implement facial-recognition systems.
Any interesting coast to coast radio with George Noory lately? Show Dropped by the station I listened to for years with my wife . Too bad ..Great night elixir.

Yep. You’ve sniffed it out. 7.79 billion of us are in on this ruse to convince you in Orwellian style to wear a mask for our nefarious purposes. None of us actually read what we claimed to read or saw what we claimed to see. And we’d have gotten away with it, too. If it wasn’t for you meddling true life V for Vendetta‘s on the pinball forum!!!
Ok...had a few drinks

You are missing it. I have been an advocate for masks since day one (my Posts reflect that conviction. I wear one whenever in Public areas.
My beef is simple. One Month does not make a profound change in mask science.
We were told this to preserve a severe shortage in N-95 masks for Health Care workers. I get that.
If N-95 (to be more specific, 3M) masks had been available in the quantities necessary and the proper urgency communicated to the population we would not have 100.000 deaths.
We would not be looking at 100,000 more. A thousand people wearing proper N-95 masks since January 28 and the response would have been more reserved, the death rate minuscule.
Less Health Care workers, Doctors and mortuary Technicians would be needed, less masks for them as well.
The Official mantra early on was to avoid masks spouted from every orifice of MSM.
Now they do a 180 and expect nobody to notice? Or everybody to be up on the latest and disregard the Information that was hammered into brains early on?
My neighbor has this sign in his front yard. It is about 1/2 way down our street which is a dead end road. the price is about $20.00 so I wonder who the real idiot is? And why he would claim "MY Governor" instead of The Governor. Nice of him to take responsibility for his voting actions. I really need to find out why he has this opinion... weather it was what the Governor, did or did not do...
idiot (2) (resized).jpgRemember that these masks were meant for one time use. In the Chemical Industry an average worker went through 6 a day.
The problem today is these masks are being used many times without cleaning. What results is sputum collecting on the inside, under the right warm humid conditions multiple bacteria and mold can thrive.
Keep slapping it on without proper replacement or cleaning and one recirculates this petri dish through their breathing.
Billions were (and still are) needed when hundred of thousands were available.
You see a N-95 Certified mask is a precision tool, designed for a purpose it does very well.
Everything else short of a full-faced respirator or ScBA is hit or miss.
My aunt (63) was sent home from the hospital a few weeks ago with COVID, but she’s back now. She’s had several mini-strokes due to the clotting issue, but thankfully she’s not on a ventilator yet. Still hoping she makes it out okay, but she had so many health problems going into this that we’re preparing for the worst. We aren’t that close, but blood is blood. Nobody should have to die at 63 from a stupid virus.
So we are all in agreement now - masks good. Wear them. I wore one in the bank today (which was little weird) and they thanked me. All the tellers and managers were wearing them too.
Sorry about your aunt swampfire I hope she recovers fully. Fauci was asked about taking a baby aspirin to help with the potential clotting issue with Covid. Fauci said there are a lot of things to consider when starting aspirin therapy and you shouldn't do it without talking with your doctor, BUT that it might not be an unreasonable thing to do that might provide some protection.
If you are at risk for contracting Covid, maybe ask your personal physician about it. Would like to hear PantherCityPins 's take on it.
I did hear of some people today that had the coronavirus. It's my sister in laws doctor who is 66. He nearly died two times he said and he said it was horrible. His wife also got it and her symptoms weren't that bad. His three kids all got it and they wasnt all that sick either but unfortunately his father who is 90 also got it and died.
That is literally the first people I have heard of in my area getting it other than my girlfriend friend that got it and died. I know there are obviously more but it's not bad around here for some reason.
Quoted from Jaybird815:If Who Dey can stick around, anyone can!
That's what happens when you are always on good behavior like I am.

Kansas is opening up. The county I live is going all the way. Very few restrictions.
The doc's advise was kicked to the curb.
Because of possible paywall, I took screenshots of the first few paragraphs.

Saw a great story today. A Ukrainian woman took off here pants to put her underwear on as a mask because she was being refused service. She is my hero and no we do not all agree that face masks save lives. Keep your chins up though, you people are great. I love when people like many of you try to say shit to me in public for not being a sheep. Because I will say shit straight back at y'all.
But hopefully this will make some of you happy. If I am in a place that requires masks I will wear one. I probably wont try and go back there anytime soon. But if no face mask is required no face mask for me hurray for freedom!
For our local circumstance we have been advised (asked) not to wear masks. We should only be wearing masks here if needed. Health workers etc. need them, and we are asked to wear a mask if we have any questionable symptoms such as coughs etc. We have been asked not to wear them if there is no reason to.

Yep, we're in the same boat here. Went from staged approach to everything open in one day, no limits on anything. I hope all those people that forced the immediate reopening know what they're doing.

That's good.
Just as MN starts opening up, the twin cities metro area ICUs are nearly at capacity.
Looking like the initial “surge” was more like slowly boiling a frog.
Meanwhile, Neighbor across the street had a huge 40th birthday / daughter high school graduation pool party.
This will end well.
This reminds me of some of my dearest pinside covid 19 specialists. Enjoy!!! So hilarious!!! He needs to have his crew spend as much time as him on matching his face mask color with his shirt.

In reality, they only need you to carry your cell phone. The perfect tracker ...
Quoted from Who-Dey:I know there are obviously more but it's not bad around here for some reason
"For some reason". You mean like all the lockdown stuff actually worked and kept it from really wrecking Ohio?
It's unfortunately not over yet either.
I wear a mask when I am around people. Not to wear a mask is not a sign or symbol for freedom. Yes, I don't think that wearing a mask makes me or others absolutly save. But no one can deny that there is the possibility that it could prevent spreading diseases a little bit. So I can understand that it should be regulated that everyone has to wear a mask in public transportation and in places with near contact to many people. And I think even without Covid, everybody that has signs of illness like the flu should always wear a mask around other people. Cause if it is a sign or a symbol than it stands for the respect for each other. If someone around me in private doesn't wear mask I don't have panic like some I know, I tell them politely why I think it would be better to wear a mask, that is all. In my pub everybody has to wear a mask when not sitting at a table. It is the law now, and I think it is a good law. I have many old people as guests. Everybody that don‘t want to wear a mask can stay away. If everybody is a little bit carefull around all others, covid is not a big problem. I wear my mask 10 hours a day without break, have to change them often to breath better. I have to be around a lot of people. It's not so easy in the sun and I can understand why people don't like it. But it is a small price to pay and for now the right thing to do. It is nothing that bothers me and nothing to fight over.
I don't know if it is allowed here on pinside to discuss politics but I just don't understand the world anymore. Everybody talks about the masks and personal freedom. It is an angry discussion. At the same time china captured Hong Kong to test what the whole world will say to it. And I have the feeling that nobody cares about it. We have to be careful not only with covid. I think we have to be careful that we are not losing the view on the big things. We fight over masks and unimportant distractions and we don't see the real battles for freedom everywhere in the world. If we stay quiet where it matters we will lose more than the freedom to be assholes around each other.

My girlfriend says the virus is culling the herd. Maybe the Darwin Awards will kick in.
