Quoted from cait001:

Implementing a Universal Basic Income doesn't wrench inflation like that. What it does do is help prevent people from starving and getting evicted.

I thought we were not posting conspiracy theories here any more?

Quoted from phil-lee:

There is a little place in NC called Lowland, every night the people who work there and do not live there are required to leave and they raise the small Draw Bridge. No crime at night unless its Locals.
I tried to buy an old fixer-upper house there, no dice. Tight knit Community, you need an invitation to purchase Property.
Would bet there are no Covid cases in Lowland, need to call my Cousin..

I’m pretty sure all of these scenarios are illegal and unconstitutional.

Dow posting its best 2-week run in 82 years amid 22 million job losses." Do you see anything wrong with this headline?

Quoted from cait001:

Well yes, landlords are a problem and need to be regulated heavily. Most landlords would gladly gut the life out of a neighborhood for a 10% profit increase.

You must be a tenant?? Most landlords struggle to keep their places kept in good condition and get paid on time. The government has made so many rules that if you get bad tenant you have to fight to get them evicted and there is usually a huge mess to clean up after the fact. I am not saying there are not bad landlords or slum lords as some call it, but to paint all as a bunch of greedy people is not fair or warranted. Just another left wing view of how things should be in the nanny state.

No more illegal than what Boston did with gentrification. It goes on man,its reality, just the facts.

Studies have shown that when people get UBI (at a certain level), they do continue to work. I’m not sold on UBI myself, but I don’t think it makes people lazy. Its academic though, because I doubt it would ever happen in the US.

This is the textbook example of “getting out too far over your skis”. The S&P is only down 10%, which seems crazy given the kinds of earnings we can expect over the next couple of years.

"Continue to work" in your statement is the key. Lazy people will always be lazy, and hard working people will always be hard working. They will use the extra money to get ahead in life, while the lazy people would only use it to foster a lazy life style.

Coronavirus experts agree the U.S. can start moving into a new phase of reopening the country: "A national shutdown is not a sustainable, long-term solution."

If isolation were the key to remaining healthy Nursing Homes wouldn't be getting slammed. The shut down and home isolation will lead to serious issues, depression, hunger, anxiety, suicide, you name it.

You haven't been around enough low income people if you don't think it makes them lazy. I've witness enough to wright a book about. Yeah I grew up in a low income family. Same with most of my friends. Everyone had there own tricks to beat the system.

I am a landlord ! Let me tell you s Story
We had 4 apartments above a Commercial
Store below old building etc. A new tenant came in after I refinished hardwood floors
Paint, new granite counters , new bath
The guy said he’s having trouble could he pay next month x2 I said sure , then he said he will have all the rent 3 months worth, now I’m $3000 in the hole
I approached him he said F- off throw me out . Lawyer fees $5000, lost rent $6000
Then he thrashed the place and left after
6 months . Tenants are a pain in the Ass
If I raised my voice I’d get arrested for harassment? And all 4 units were at75%
Of what was reasonable. People who don’t have rental or second homes are quick to judge ! I hear it all the time but that’s what 40 yrs 6 days a week gets the working man

So I can’t go to work either ? My jobs are shut down ? So do I pay and give free rent ?

Not really. DNA is a unique identifier that can be used in a lot of predictive health Programs. DNA belongs to the individual,it should be private.
The National DNA Database could be used in a lot of nefarious ways, completing a Blockchain File on the individual that could interfere with his/her rights.
The success of Crime TV showing 40 year old arrests of rapists and killers is great, just remember most "Save the Children" type programs come into being for a good thing but turn very bad.

Never so true words!! Why is it that some people hold any success against you. For most of us small business owners we create jobs for people and really are the ones that keep the economy moving. We cant all work for big business or the government in whatever form that is either local state or national. I do agree that the large CEO's make way too much money for what they do compared to years gone by and the mentality of the big corporations at the top needs to be adjusted. I mean really, how can you have the CEO's of some of the fortune 500 making more in the 1st day of the year than the average worker does in a year. That is just obscene. For the rest of us, unlike some who think we should all work for the state ( socialism or worse communism ) we sometimes go without a paycheque so we can pay the bills, taxes and employees. When you owe the government they dont give a crap if you had a bad month or somebody stiffed you for the work you have done they just want the $$$. As for a living wage I like to think we pay our people to what their abilities are and what they bring to the table every day. You know the fair days pay for a fair days work thing.

Hey man I know the feeling all too well. I love it how some people have this vision that we are all living high off the hog and rolling in $$. They all need a reality check. It's always the same ones who think the nanny state should look after them. Maybe they should move to China and see how that works out.

Thank goodness I have an essential job but you had me curious. As a result of this mess the CARES acted was created. You can get mortgage forgiveness up to 12 months but a lot of lenders are offering leeway anyway I guess.

OK instead of everyone worrying if having a social safety net makes people lazy or that people are being too mean to rent-seekers, let's check in on today's numbers:

USA has broken 40k deaths https://www.worldometers.info/coronavirus/country/us/ BUT daily new cases have been stable for 2 weeks.

Italy, France and Spain are still in a bad spot but there numbers have been really reigned in:
https://www.worldometers.info/coronavirus/country/italy/
https://www.worldometers.info/coronavirus/country/france/
https://www.worldometers.info/coronavirus/country/spain/

Canada's numbers keep going up, but unfortunately this site doesn't provide regional breakdowns: https://www.worldometers.info/coronavirus/country/canada/

One startling (global) number is that for the "closed" cases, 21% are resolving as deceased.

My mortgage has offered 6 months with no payments, no interest, and no negative credit reporting. They did say, however, that the "grace period" balance would be due in it's entirety at the end of the 6 months

I pursued it and I asked about it for after that as well. They said it would likely be reviewed further (at the end of the 6 months) and possibly granted deferred payments with interest or rolled into my current mortgage with interest.

Either way, they aren't giving free payments away. It will be due.

They recommended paying what I can in the mean time.

If deaths continue at the current pace (~2k per day), we’ll be over 60k when things open back up on May 1. I hope the “summer makes it fade” crowd are correct.

A lot of pockets of civil disobedience in our country regarding the stay at home order. Most likely more to come. I'd be really interested in hearing from our pinball friends in other countries if they're seeing the same thing.

Haven't really heard of any protests in Canada. Quick Google news search mostly came back with reports of the US. There was one story about a 15 person protest in Vancouver. According to the story Dan Dick (the organizer) calls himself a journalist and described the protest as a "massive March".

The article went on to note:
"Dicks has also posted videos on subjects including the “global chemtrail summit” and “how to 5G proof your house”."

That ratio is somewhat meaningless, as deaths happen much sooner/faster than people are being cleared of the virus.

That's what I was thinking when I first saw that number, but now that we have enough weeks in our data, it's really starting to worry me. There is certainly always a 2-3 week lag on the numbers of the ratio, and it would be interesting to see it adjusted with that in mind.

#11834 3 years ago

Couple of random observations.

My caution level has been dropping slightly. A month ago, I was wiping down every single thing that came into the house. Now, I just put things away. My boss at one point was buying cases of beer, filling up the bathtub and washing the individual cans. Now he’s switched to half-kegs to avoid that. I just put my beers away, and wash my hands after.

There are no quarantine protests happening here in GA. Is that because we have a Republican governor? Or is it because we see what’s happening in Albany? Either way, I’m glad things are quiet here.

One article I read recommended looking at the average time to death (say, 10 days), and using that difference. So, compare today’s deaths to the number of known cases X days ago. But even that’s not great, since a lot of cases are resolving with people never knowing they had COVID-19. I tend to believe the consensus estimate of around 1%.

I have a rental property also and it's funny how people thinks that I am getting rich off of it. They have no idea what it cost to keep a property up and then when you get a bad tenant that really buries you financially.

I can honestly say that I have lost my f*cking ass on my rental property mainly because I'm a nice guy and have gotten taken advantage of really bad a few times. There is no more Mr. Niceguy from me anymore when it comes to my tenants. I will never be taken advantage of again and I will not take anyone's shit ever again and I will be the biggest asshole anyone has ever seen if need be. I now let my tenants know this before they move in. Think I'm an asshole all you want I dont care anymore.

I don’t own any rental property, but am constantly amazed at how people, including politicians, think rental properties are a public utility and exist for the benefit of residents, not the owners. I have friends that own apartments and it’s a nightmare. An absolute nightmare. Obviously, there should be regulation and there are always bad landlords, but almost without fail, laws are completely pro-tenant.

#11838 3 years ago
Quoted from cait001:

Not sure how different it is down there, but in Canada they really wanted to discourage people with money from running to cottage country to "escape" the virus because the local areas only had so much capacity for the year-round residents, in terms of hospitals and groceries/supplies.

Unless you're the Prime Minister of course.

Can anybody provide some numbers on the average number of deaths per day from the flu in the United States for 2019 and for 2020? Additionally, can anybody provide some numbers on the average number of deaths per day from Covid-19 since the first case was reported in Washington state? Thanks in advance!

Yep i agree. Only reason I have a rental is because it's a house that I once lived in and I kept it because when I raced cars my shop is behind the house and I continued to work out of it.

I do know several people though that have several rental properties and they work very hard at keeping them up and they are always stressed out due to tenants not paying and treating them like shit. Being a landlord is not a glamorous life at all. It's super super hard work at times. I have no desire to own any more properties. I would personally rather go to my job and punch a time clock everyday.

In Australia we locked down early. No need to rebel against logic. Stay home. Sure there’s economic catastrophe but the alternative as seen in parts of Europe and the USA seems to be a poor better second choice. Less than 50 new cases a day for last week, however we’re now faced with getting out of this....slowly
Same situation in New Zealand

Agreed. WAY TOO CLOSE THOSE PEOPLE

I was thinking about Israel today though.

All I can say is Israeli chicks are hot. Yes...……….I could post picks of chicks with guns and all that shit, but bottom line...…..they have a few things up on the typical American woman.

well.……….I posted a pic of a chick with a gun...…...shame on me.
