A great way to get the most factual info is to look at the key posts, skip past unwanted comments, or just block/ignore certain posters you don't agree with.

Some say it was to shop our supermarkets as the ones in Miami were depleted pretty quick when this thing got kicking off...…..others say it was rob unoccupied homes while the lockdown was in effect. Some people probably just wanted to come down and fish. Who knows.
Now you have to have proof of residency to get in. Deed, utility bill, ID etc...………..
Anyway....it's weird to live in a place where yes in fact the road is being policed and blockaded by the man.

I tried to rent a house on Ocracoke Island year round, the Realtor told me unless I worked in the Motel or Food Business it was a no go. "We want people to go Home after the Season. You need a Sponsor proving you are needed"

I like living in nyc and I like my apartment. Unfortunately, however, as I have two windows facing busy 10th Avenue, everything near the wall gets covered in a fine layer of soot I have to clean one a week. The floor, the back of the tv, etc. Or don’t clean one a week and it builds up pretty disgustingly.

To me it also revealed that we have zero social safety net in this country. In other places they fire up apple/google classroom app and their kids continue to do their schooling at home, their salaries are covered, there healthcare is covered, etc. Over here you are basically left completely on your own to fend for yourself. I hate to use this word because it's so misunderstood, but the difference between socialism in the USA and in other countries is that in other countries everyone has it so you are covered in panic situations and are never left destitute whereas in this country only the rich have it and have convinced the commoners that it's bad for them all the while training them with panic that going back to work is their only salvation. The only thing more insane with this setup is that many have been convinced that it's the best setup in the world. The whole thing is like a country wide Stockholm syndrome experiment that somehow continues to operate successfully.

In the 80’s we drank Strohs 30 packs. I had a ski boot bag in highschool that a 30 pack fit perfect where the ski boot compartment was in the bottom. Then I’d put the boots in the top storage area. Heavy as hell to load or carry but it worked out great cause the storage compartments of the busses were unconditioned so the beers would be nicely chilled when we got to where we were heading.

To me, this all falls into the supply/demand nature of a capitalistic society. This pandemic has really brought it all to the forefront. Some people, however, know how to play the game and others don't (or just won't). It's not necessarily always a bad thing, but some will certainly use it to work more and get ahead, some will do just enough to buy things and use credit to look like they have made it, and others will do as little as possible and find every hand out possible. People's motivations can rarely be changed, however.
Many also rate "success" by what work you do and how much money you make, working hard just to "keep up with the Joneses." It is hard not to...especially with constant ads, sales pitches, and a global economy that highlights what others have and what is actually available out there.
The economic impact of this has been HUGE, and it will continue to be.

Nothing whatsoever regarding civil disobedience or protests in the UK about the lockdown. In fact it's the opposite, people pointing out the idiots who are going out for 'non-essential' reasons. My sister lives in NYC and is a teacher along with her husband and live in a smallish apartment with 2 children 8 & 12. Despite having to do online teaching for their pupils as well as taking care of their own kids they are in shock at the protests as well.

US public debt is on track to exceed its GDP by September. Once a country passes that 100% tipping point, it’s very rare that it recovers. There are only 2 ways out: inflation or default. I used to think that a US default was impossible, but given the right kind of political dysfunction, it can definitely happen. We’re in for a world of pain no matter which outcome we get.

You're missing all of the benefits and how they effect the economy and community. the reduced costs to the social services, the reduction in poverty, starvation, desperation.
The "Reagan"-style of propaganda was to always counter a public good with "well who's gonna pay for it" while trying to hide the actual math behind it showing things to be mostly revenue neutral or revenue positive, while also using it as a distraction to funnel assistance to corporations. Public goods aren't privately profitable, and so need to be demonized. If you can't collect rent on something, what good is it to an investor?
Will there be some inflation? Maybe! Will it be $1200 loaves of bread? LOL no. The kind of real world stimulus a UBI provides is nothing in contrast to corporate welfare levels.

My GF lives in the South of France, the reaction is more similar to the UK. People are hating fact that they intend to break the lockdown (in schools first) before there is a vaccine or widespread tests and that people, are still dying in huge numbers.
I know people in most European countries through my pinball travels, and they're all understanding and approving of the lockdown.
My sister lives in NYC and is a teacher along with her husband and live in a smallish apartment with 2 children 8 & 12. Despite having to do online teaching for their pupils as well as taking care of their own kids they are in shock at the protests as well.
The way SOME Americans are treating this is truly remarkable and a very poor reflection on the American people as a whole.
This virus has unfortunately shown just how undisciplined some Americans have become with a "no one will tell me what to do" attitude. That type of mindset has been growing for years and just finally blew with this. Then if someone doesn't like one version of the facts based on science they just find another source that tells them what they want to hear. Yes its bonkers. It's frustrating for those trying to follow the guidelines while others don't give a crap and end up putting thousands of others at risk.
At the same time millions are now out of work, stressed out, can't pay their bills, depressed, etc. Its been a very difficult time for many.
Proper SOP (safe operating procedures) can insure limited transmission at the work place, nearly any workplace. The problem comes in transportation to work if using mass transit. Also Recreation (Concerts, Stadiums, etc.) So got to work, then go home! Ride a Bike or drive a private vehicle.
Testing is useless since immunity from having Covid hasn't been proven. Test negative, touch a door handle, test positive.
Not sure where they are getting this herd immunity belief from, I haven't seen the Science.

Early on began wearing PPE, before PPE was cool. Isolated myself. I feel I had a case of this around Thanksgiving, which means all information as to origins and timeframe are a lie.

Well. We’ve got two choices. We can institute some or all of these or we can shelter in place until we have a vaccine. Neither is great. The problem with instituting any of the plans is they require trust in our government. Unfortunately we’re at a point where partisanship is at an all time high. Political attacks by either party or partisan media only make it worse. Thankfully these decisions have been pushed down to the state level where things are less partisan. It at least gives us a fighting chance.

This ingrained in the American mindset, responsible for our successful Revolution against England and the basis for so much success for our Country.
Over the Years this concept has been challenged as best for our future sustainability.
All Experts agree isolation is not a long-term solution to Covid.
So get with the Program and create the next best thing, you have the MENSA IQ and billions of dollars, get with it.
When I see my neighbor go to work cause they are "Essential" and I could safely do my job and have to sit home?
