I’m glad I don’t have any debt. Apparently there is a loophole in the the stimulus plan where creditors can seize the money.

Quoted from Blitzburgh99:

The bears in the US are the criminals. And we are nation full of them.

Over here guns are really hard and expensive to get . If you get robbed over here , usually the criminal has a knife or baseball bat , I'd rather take on either one of those , than a glock .

Quoted from phil-lee:

Don't critizize the protest in Michigan, it's the start of a Revolution.
Pay attention, this is how these things start.
These are my guys.

You really should be out there with them. Please consider it.

Quoted from Blitzburgh99:

It will be scarier when a foreign military force invades the EU and everyone is just sitting ducks....waiting for the USA military to arrive.

Why would America go to the EU? They have oil deposits we don't know about?

I risked my life to get a few movies the other day , I guess I'll find out in 2 weeks if it was worth it .

All of those are fun movies! Enjoy. I actually think Jumanji Next Level was my favorite out of the 3.

I saw them all at the movies and you're right Jumanji not too bad , Ruby Roundhouse - oh yeah .

Quoted from Luckydogg420:

Maybe it’s a Canadian thing, or a community thing, but I don’t see how a gun would help me or my neighbors in a disaster. I don’t fear people around me, and will help them out best I can. I’m not on my own, I know my neighbors.

I totally agree with the frustration, it’s just like any other news story, you have to sift through the static to find the signal. It takes time to find out correct answers. And we’re looking for correct answers not just ones that fulfill our personal needs.

We have a lot of mouth breathers in our country that love guns, hate and division more than they do a reasonable approach to solving problems, let alone caring for others.. the evil person is always running although no one is pursuing him, but the righteous are bold as a lion.

Quoted from Blitzburgh99:

Correct. It’s somewhere between 2 and 9%, depending on what stats that are quoted. And those stats are all over the place...kids and middle aged and old are all dying. Old at higher rates...but if you just think about you, yourself.
WHEN you get it, can you say for sure you won’t die from it? That a ventilator will be available for you? That you don’t get overlooked among 30 or 40 others laying in beds around you? That the hospital doesn’t run out of hydroxychlotinquine? That it affects your heart or your lungs? That’s why it’s 50/50 for anyone. There are too many variables to say “I only have a 2% chance of dying because that’s the death rate.”
[quoted image]

I think you are confusing some statistical principles.

An individual’s outcome is binary. You either recover or you don’t. That might seem to imply that it’s a 50/50 chance but it does not. It is a binary outcome but the chances of survival if you get coronavirus depend on your overall health and age going in to the illness.

If you are under age 65 and otherwise healthy, your survival chances are 99% or better. If you are elderly and have multiple medical issues your chances of survival might be 70-80%.

There’s no data to support saying you have a 50/50 chance of survival with ANY demographic. Even the very elderly have better survival statistics than that.

"Anybody who wants a test can get one." I seem to recall someone saying that awhile back.

New York's governor lays that statement to waste. I figure if anybody knows anything about anything, the NY Gov. ought a to have a pretty good handle on the challenges. Maybe everyone else will get different mileage from this, but to me, it sounds like we are screwed.

28 new testing sites are opening today in Illinois using the new Abbot tests that take about 5 minutes to get results.

That looks like peaking to me. It stopped the upwards trajectory around 4/4. If it kept rising at the rate prior to that we'd be up around 80k new cases a day now.

We're up to 64 deaths for the nation . Pubs and cafes are closed as well as gym's , nail salon's and lots of other places as well and gatherings of two or more , but , shops , liquor stores , hairdressers , hardware and lots of other places are open . Thankfully my wife and I still have our jobs (for now ) so really not much has changed over here ( if you still have your job )

Anyone ever actually done that? I mean like seriously compress an expected travel time? Always an amazing feat, but I don't know which is better:

Deliberately trying and making an effort to get "somewhere by some time" that seems questionable if not impossible, and succeeding... (details may be spared in the interest of plausible deniability *ahem* as this behavior should not be encouraged)...

OR

Just going about your business casually, not being reckless, not being deliberate, just setting your own casual pace with the apparent blessing of both God and the police across a long familiar trip and then... how the hell did you get there so early, by like... hours holy carp WTF?

Everyone thought the stock market peaked around October 2018, too....not enough data to say if covid-19 has peaked or not. The true peak will reveal itself years from now, only after a vaccine has been given to everyone.

I don't recall if it was this thread, but I mentioned somewhere when I hear his 'updates' I'm reminded of Damone from Fast Times and his 5 point plan.

3. Act like wherever you are - that’s the place to be ... "isn't this great"...

So yes, the ultimate! Ain't it beautiful.

Light traffic due to the virus had cars zipping along way faster than normal rush hours yesterday morning. Added to a few inches of snow falling and temps in the 30s (twenty degrees below normal for this time of year) made for ice covered roadways and a fifty car and three semi pileup on the Kennedy Expressway into Chicago. 14 people taken to hospitals and 45 more were treated at the scene.

You gotta love it. United Airlines is holding its hand out for the govt. money. The stipulation is UAL has to keep the staff on for 6 months. At 6 months and one day, UAL is going to go ahead and lay off big time. That is capitalism at its best.

Just shut down now. And quit burning jet fuel with empty planes.

https://www.cnn.com/2020/04/16/business/united-schedule-staff-cuts/index.html

" United Airlines is making the deepest cuts yet announced by a US airline, reducing its May and June schedule by about 90% of what was originally planned at the start of the year.

" And while the airline is precluded from laying off staff for the next six months under terms of a federal financial assistance package that will provide it with about $5 billion, it is preparing to cut staff as soon as Oct. 1, according to a letter sent to staff by CEO Oscar Munoz and President Scott Kirby.

#10845 3 years ago

Why is the US government subsidizing salaries for airline employees, but not employees of restaurants and other businesses impacted by the virus? The airline bailout has something to piss everyone off: socialism for the employees, and socialism for the companies and stockholders. I understand that airlines are more critical than other impacted businesses, but why the very special treatment?

Maybe I'm not thinking this through...what would happen without a bailout? Shareholders would be wiped out, employees would be in the same boat as everyone else, and eventually all the airlines would go bankrupt and reorganize. But at the end of it all there would still be airlines - maybe not as many, but the market demand will return.

#10846 3 years ago
Quoted from screaminr:

What about the people who have had good health care and have still died ,Blitz is right it is 50 /50 if you survive or not

So.... because there are only two possible outcomes, live or survive, the probability must be 50/50?? Flipping coins works that way but not everything does.

Hmmm. Bigger paychecks in the airline industry might mean larger and more political donations than some poor sap of a waitress trying to feed her kids?

Lots of sports owners are involved. I know Mark Cuban said he will be one. WWE isn't a sports team, but they do have thousands of viewers per venue, and probably employ more than any sports team as they are year round and have multiple events, with multiple television events. It is a multi-billion dollar industry. So it makes sense.

Exactly....we don’t need to kiss the waitress’s ass because all we need from her is her vote, and we already know what that will be. Let ‘em eat cake!

It's all empty theatrics just like everything else...you can put together as many pointless Zoom conferences as you want with business leaders / sports owners etc. It won't result in anything besides showy "Federal guidelines" nobody needs to follow.

No one person will be "opening the economy" or "opening sports." That's going to be up to individual states.
