I was chatting on WhatsApp today with a good friend and colleague of mine in France. A friend ours and her family are battling with COVID19 at the moment. Her son has it rather mild, her case was kind of medium and they are both on the mend. Her husbands case is much more serious, but they think he is going to pull through (although that was questionable up until today).
Appearantly one of the side affects some of them are experiencing is loss of smell and loss of taste (even after recovered) as well as trouble breathing and getting tired (winded) easily.
I was well aware that this can cause permanent lung damage, but don’t recall people discussing loss of smell and taste buds.
Maybe some of the members in the medical field can chime in if this is a common thing?

They wear them even when they travel, we get many visitors here from that part of the world and it's common to see them walking around here with masks on at the beach communities.

It is. I don't have immediate sources, but I recall anecdotal descriptions of this phenomenon. IMO, If you suddenly have a loss of smell or taste, call your doctor and consider every precautionary measure you can take.
A look at Micro droplets suspended in air. A must watch video if you want to see how easily this can transfer from one person to the other.
Has a good view of how just talking will spread droplets through the air and how they linger through the air.

Remember there are hundreds of cruise ships cycling all the time. The main ships are never idle unless in refurb. The ships that are out there mostly did leave right before the shit hit the fan. Some of these were cruises that were supposed to be 2 weeks... trips all the way down south america etc.
Don’t forget how quickly this situation escalated in the US... days.

That was an old story... basically boilerroom talking points on their sales agents in one call center. It was from the start of the crisis before the shutdowns were starting.

It seems like these should be charted based on the population size. The maximum death day will likely be much higher in the US than Italy because there are so many more people in the country (US has 6 times more population than Italy). Our chart will start to plateau as soon as the social distancing takes effect which is after the pre-social distancing infected people die or recover or at least get half way through that process.
Also, it does not help that the most populated countries such as China and India have fudged their numbers. The US does not really have any other country to compare to on the chart to do a direct comparison because of the population size and not having valid data for other comparable population sized countries. We are only left to extrapolate what we can from smaller countries with lesser medical systems and different aged populations.

This has been discussed earlier in the thread. There isn't a use in having the data per capita as per the type of data were studying. The explanation was from the data scientist who does the charts.
I know someone who is slowly recovering from Covid, and they said they lost smell and taste early. They are just now starting to get it back. I believe it is a very early warning sign that a person has it.

And the US hasn't? Our numbers aren't even close to being accurate, we have way more cases than are being reported. South Korea and Germany are like the only major countries with accurate testing.
We're going to be over a million by the end of April. Regardless of how you want to graph it or spin it, we've handled it very poorly. Like all aspects, testing, shutting things down too late, ignoring the problem, not enough supplies, etc. And the worst part is about those issues is, despite being issues for a month, they're still just as big of problems now, like we've solved nothing.
Our current plan is:

3) virus gone

Yeah tired of hearing about our awesome, accurate, sweeping testing and rock solid honesty in all things counting Covid in the U.S. in comparison to those sneaky little devils in other countries who are totally fudging the numbers.
I know - personally - at least 5 people who probably have/had it, and never got tested. There's probably tens of thousands of people like that.

False. There IS a use and value in that type of data. Any and all data is important when evaluating anything...the more information the better.

There is a MAJOR difference between inaccurate numbers due to the amount of testing performed and “fudging” numbers. Inaccurate numbers can be a result of things such as inadequate testing, asymptomatic cases, those that had minor symptoms and never got medical attention, or those that already had the virus before testing began. “Fudging” numbers is knowingly being deceitful for many of various possible ulterior motives.

And at this rate the US will hit 1 million infections in less than two weeks time. Which is roughly the apex for North America. The next few weeks will be nerve racking. Canada is not fairing much better right now and we are consistent with your infection curve (on a smaller scale).
This site uses the John Hopkins dataset and plots it in a way where you can compare each state vs. any other subset of states. (So MN vs. TX, MN vs. All, etc. )
Also has some global data. Both log and linear scale.
