Thanks Doc for answering some of my questions...makes sense.

Just to pile on a bit, Doc, I appreciate you answering my "give it back to bats" question a little earlier today.

I find it HIGHLY ironic that the US mints latest special quarter has a bat on it...

Something about pinball. And the economy.

I had been viewing a particular part (new parts) on Ebay from a name brand pinball part seller. Ebay has just sent me an email that this seller is offering me a 48 hour buy it at a a 5% discount. I don't know if this shop's business has slowed down, or if he has too much in inventory for this particular part. I have no clue at all about this 5% discount offer.

But I think it is strange to even get a discount. This guys is usually pretty stiff with his prices.

I have no opinion. Just passing this on.

I'm very lucky that Paul has been cutting his own hair long before we met, so he need not fear my hair cutting skills for him.

As for me, I've always been a tomboy and also cut my own hair. Saves a lot of money and I don't like fancy haircuts, too much upkeep for me.

I can't imagine what high maintenance ladies are doing right now, they must be freaking out. They can't go to the hair dresser or get their nails did. I'm sure many are making home visits, as dumb a move as that is.

I don’t want to get moderated for being a “broken record”, so I will not say this again. The reason for my post #5806 was NOT a flu argument. I know this IS worse than the flu. The comparison between influenza and COVID-19 was meant to show the seriousness of the flu, NOT minimize the seriousness of COVID-19. I just couldn’t understand why we do not treat the flu in the same way as it is killing tens of thousands in the US annually.

Thanks to those that answered my questions. I have dealt with anxiety issues my entire life and I have found, especially during this uncertain and scary time, knowledge eases my anxiety because it reduces the fear of the unknown. Everyone be safe and stay healthy!

Everyone’s a bit tense, understandably, don’t take things personally. We’ll all get through this.

Those bats are a little suggestive in their pose. No wonder George is looking away.

Quoted from RTR:

Hit dog always hollers.
But if you are serious - Flu is endemic. For various reasons we cannot eradicate it. It will always be with us. We have developed ways to fight it - Tamiflu, flu shots, herd immunity, partially immunity, etc. We are not defenseless against it and the mortality rate has gone down to roughly .01% due to our efforts in fighting it.
Coronavirus is pandemic, but will likely become endemic. And we have ZERO proven defenses for it, except our own immune sytems and our over-large brain - which if used correctly - can allow many of us to avoid catching it for a while. Add to this that the mortality rate is much higher than flu and the % of people requiring hospitalization is higher as well. Therefore it takes up an inordinate amount of resources to fight it as compared to flu.

Thanks for the info...good explanation. So do you think we will get coronavirus shots in the future like we do for the flu?

Personal experience:

We are still only testing those who are high risk.

PPE is still in short supply.

Other parts of the country may have different experiences, I can only speak for myself.

Not first had experience, but a my daughters' closest friend's mother was diagnosed with Covid-19 on Sunday. She is an MD and was unable to get a test until she had been symptomatic for a week.

I don't know how effective they are but I'm using what's called a Buff and some are called a Neck Gator. Its very long so I can double up its thickness maybe even triple it. Easy and convenient to raise and lower as needed. I also wash it with bleach after each use.
It's gotta be better than nothing. Maybe?

Surely better than nothing, I have also seen people cut rectangles out of 2300 rated or higher furnace filters then add them in as a layer between the folds of your Buff

Someone forgot to tell Dakotas, Nebraska, Iowa and Arkansas about Coronavirus. I know casinos are shutdown in Nevada so striking them from this list.
Coronavirus is real and Coronavirus is here. Everyone is being asked to comply with their state or local laws about keeping 6 foot social distancing, no group functions, only essential workers going into work and washing hands frequently to wearing a mask in public places now.

It's frustrating to say the least. Many here don't get the magnitude of the situation. One thing we do have going for us is very low population density.

While dropping off tp and water for family member, I went down to T street where I grew up. These 2 brothers were pretty fun to watch how they interacted with their friends from a distance. Made me feel good. Awhile back I rented a truck to pick up a pin. Had out of state plates. Local kids yelled at me to go back home. I grew up on the street and still owned a part of a home on the street. Made me feel all warm and fuzzy. Hasn't changed much after all these years.

My apologies for being bitchy. I'm a little frazzled too.

I just got the call from the owner of my company, offered 2 for 1 on vacation time if I’d sit for awhile, so he didn’t have to lay off the guy with a young family, I gladly took him up on his offer. I am now sitting until further notice, paid.

This is wrong, AGAIN.
Evolution does not state that the young survive while the old and sick die. That’s just life.
Evolution states that an organism that can adapt to a change in environment survives while one that can’t adapt or adapts less well dies out.
So a good example of evolution would be if an organism failed to recognize the change in environment or wasn’t intelligent enough to recognize the change and then died due to the change. Examples I can think of are college kids who went to a COVID party or congregated on a beach in Florida and then contracted coronavirus. Also, someone who refuses to accept the reality of this pandemic and goes about their business without any regard for their own well being or that of others.

Actually you’re wrong. Show me your stats here. Vast majority. Pretty sure last time I checked, you didn’t cure anything. So quit grandstanding

#5880 4 years ago
Quoted from cottonm4:

if you ever get a chance, try to get someone to give you a tour of one of your local TV channels where you can see a TV set for a news show. On TV, it looks all glittery and upscale. But up close you will see some of the backdrops are held together with scotch tape. The news caster is sitting there with his/her jacket and tie on while below desk level he is wearing a pair of Bermuda shorts and flip flops. And on either side of the set, you will see the brick walls of what is basically a warehouse building..

Missing in your whole comparison is the key point... the point that the backdrop is INTENTIONALLY CONTRIVED. It's setup to project some image or thought. That's the point. If you're doing that in your youtube video... it's because you're trying to project something.

TV stations do the same - but for different reasons. If you found a TV station trying to roll images of 'credibility' or 'awards' in their backdrop... you'd probably have similar skepticism on why...

But people that can't search the internet on their own need a resident doctor's advice.

#5883 4 years ago
Quoted from CrazyLevi:

For the billionth time:
it’s far more contagious and deadly than the annual flu. The annual flu doesn’t quickly overwhelm our hospitals causing massive disruption to our health care system, causing even more deaths and misery. We don’t need pop up morgues and hospital ships and triage in the park to deal with the annual flu.
This answer and awful truth won’t change no matter how many times people ask the same question.

I just looked up that between 2013 and 2017 a total of 68,000 died of the flu in Italy. A little over 12,000 per year. They’re at 12,000 after 6 weeks with Coronavirus. It’s not the flue.

York County Weis employee tests positive for COVID-19
Not a very descriptive article but what is worrisome is they never mentioned if they closed the store for decontamination. And they only have one other employee that worked with this person in quarantine.

Doctors are glorified tour guides. Mainly responsible for the opioid epidemic which was the largest killer of humans in the past 2 years. It was so bad the life expectancy decreased for the first time in hundreds of years. The facts are clear, the only thing curing this disease to date is the human immune system. But this “forum doctor” here is going to deny that? Where’s the vaccine? Doctors aren’t even working on it, scientists & biologists are. Last time I checked it was still in the works. But this grandstanding forum doctor here just doesn’t want to give credit where it’s due. Human Immune System 170,000 (in the US) Doctors 0

No apologies necessary! I’m trying to make sense of all of this...we all are. I’ve had more questions than answers and have been trying to do my own research as well as listen to people here in an effort to answer them. I tend to easily get defensive and take things personal, which I am working on. I’ve honestly got more answers and understanding here in a pinball forum than I get watching the news! There has been a lot of good humor and good cooking shows, o-din’s lasagne, here too that lightens things up! I’m appreciative the mods kept this thread open and have squashed most of the political bs.
