At this rate my yard will be ready for summer before april. I got all of the brush burned today. Just have to fill some leaf bags tomorrow[quoted image]

Man am I jealous. Still snowed in here. -6 here today. Only get out to walk the dog

I won't link the article because I'm sure someone will think it's political, but I just need to say: on behalf of gay people everywhere, I am sorry for all the covid-19. Oops, our bad.

Yes, please share what you are doing with your downtime.

I’m taking off next week to celebrate my birthday and Spring, something I started about 10 years ago. I will definitely finish my Mata Hari playfield swap, and I hope to start on Skateball (although I’d much rather have @odin’s).

Man I hate you!!! My Bally room looks like a storage room right now. Can hardly see my games.
Maybe I should work on cleaning that out. Love your games by the way.

Now it's all about layers of assembly.

Excuse the mess. I think I'll have plenty of time to clean it up. This is better than me cracking jokes, isn't it?

I’m loving the positive vibe here today. I have to say it guts me to hear what some of ya’ll are going through, and I wish for you a change for the better. I got laid off about 3 years ago, it was damned near impossible to find work and then I suddenly ended up in my favorite job ever. I want that for everyone who’s struggling right now.

#5610 4 years ago

America passed France today in deaths.
Tomorrow they will probably pass China's widely-questioned death number too, with only Italy and Spain ahead.

Quoted from arcademojo:

Unless they changed it, it was stated as $600 a week plus regular unemployment. The $600 wasn't pulled out of thin air. It is based on the $15.00 an hour minimum wage some are trying to push.

Correct, I got the additional amount mixed up. It is $600 additional, not $200. This could have some pretty bad unintended consequences. Unless you make a very good living, it creates a big incentive to try to get fired or otherwise become unemployed.

It doesn’t really seem fair that an essential worker is busting their ass working while someone is being paid significantly more not to work. Especially in low wage states. I think you might see a revolt among employed grocery workers. This was not well thought out at all.

#5612 4 years ago

Now to just let it bake. 375. Half hour foil on, 15-20 minutes foil off.

Now that wasn't so hard, was it?

People who are unemployed would rather be working than getting the extra money. Why? Because they would have health benefits. Unemployed = lose your health coverage. And COBRA is unaffordable. Way more than $600 a month for a family of four.

If some folks get more than if they are working, then let’s chalk one up for the peasants for a change.

The average unemployment is about $450/week. They give "up to $600" extra per week depending on your situation and earnings from the last several months from your job.

In many cases you are correct. I was thinking mainly of those younger workers who don’t care so much about the healthcare or else don’t get health benefits from their employer. Again, this will be more of an issue in low wage states. They tend to be the same states that feel healthcare benefits are frowned upon. $600 extra per week to not work is a pretty big incentive for someone who might normally make $500/week total. They see their friend, who made about the same $500 now getting paid $1100 to not work, and they are going to be a little upset and motivated to join them in unemployment. We shall see.

We shall see.

Alright, here’s my thread challenge. Go to your device’s photo feed, scroll back and post the first picture that makes you smile. Explain why it makes you happy. Obviously no porn or politics or memes - ideally it’s something you or a friend/family took.

For me, it’s this picture. We had a little ski trip to Beech Mountain NC about 6 weeks ago, and my niece brought her dog Jax. He was always happy, and was a good boi while we were out skiing. He loved his first trip to the mountains.

I think it was very well thought out and possibly the most efficient use of money in the entire bill. Nearly all of that extra $600 a week (for 4 months) will be reinvested into the local economy and will provide a needed boost to help jumpstart the economy. Without it we are dead in the water. The corporate bailouts do help as well but they are a much less efficient use of taxpayer money.

Too many posts to follow. I read a few and got to Forceflow's "we are stepping up the moderation, you have been warned post." It is funny to scroll along and see who is thumbing up and who is thumbing down. Some you have real thin skin and the slightest bit of humor sure seems to piss some of you off.

This youtube movie got everybody laughing 17 years ago. Maybe there is still some juice to be squeezed from it.

The average is much less than $450/week. I believe that is the max. From what I’ve just read it is not up to $600 extra but is $600 extra.

This 100%
Most of the younger associates at my store make $8 to $10 an hour. Even with the $2 temp raise they are still getting screwed big time. And they don't get health insurance until they are there for 2 years part time. We have very few full time positions. So for them they would make a lot more being laid off. Plus no matter how you look at it we are in a job that is high risk for catching the coronavirus.

They should be making minimum $15 an hour. Don’t you agree? I guess I’m one of those people “pushing it.”

Supermarkets are making a KILLING right now and wages should instantly be raised to $15 minimum. I’m sure you’ll confirm there’s zero sales on anything now too. The 4 for $10 TV dinners I bought the Thursday after the shit hit the fan are $5 each now. My last trip to the supermarket I didn’t see a single thing on sale. And why would I?

Agree on the jump starting the economy. But it could lead to a severe shortage of essential workers in the short term. If you were a young grocery store worker, would you rather get paid $1100/week to stay at home, or $500/week to work with the bonus of being exposed to coved-19? Like I said, we shall just have to wait and see what happens.

That’s pretty much how welfare works... folks can make more staying at home, getting food stamps, getting housing paid for, cellphones paid for.

I’m curious how the next 4 or 5 rounds of virus money will go out and to whom.

Wasn't that what's the $1200 stimulus is for? Jump starting the economy.
Here is how it really sounds.
Hey Jim you have to work for $10 an hour 32 hours a week for a total of $320 before taxes and have a 50% higher chance of catching CV then your buddy Joe that's setting at home now making $800 a week after taxes.
Sucks to be Jim.

#5636 4 years ago

I didn't have to go to work. I did because it is healthy and breaks up the routine. Worked for the minimum in the profession I have mastered. I could have done side work for much more.

But I busted my ass since I was 13 to never get a paid vacation or paid health benefits, and getting squeezed on the quality of work I was doing. And any time something did go wrong, the money to pay these doctors came right out of my pocket.

Should I feel guilty?

We could go down a rabbit hole discussing this subject, but this is why it makes sense for a higher minimum wage so companies like Walmart aren’t being subsidized by the state and federal governments to make sure their workers can support themselves, all so the Walton family can be multi billionaires.

Around here prices haven't changed that much and we still have our weekly sales. As for right now I agree with the 15 an hour but couldn't agree on it under normal circumstances. If you had to work with some of these kids you would understand.
Agreed, They are making a killing right now. And not much OT available. They just make the salary managers come in and work stocking to help out. Main reason I refused to move up to a salary manager when they asked me. (several times)

https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.nytimes.com/article/coronavirus-stimulus-package-questions-answers.amp.html

"How much will I receive?

It depends on your state.

Benefits will be expanded in an attempt to replace the average worker’s paycheck, explained Andrew Stettner, a senior fellow at the Century Foundation, a public policy research group. The average worker earns about $1,000 a week, and unemployment benefits often replace roughly 40 to 45 percent of that. The expansion will pay an extra amount to fill the gap.

Under the plan, eligible workers will get an extra $600 per week on top of their state benefit. But some states are more generous than others. According to the Century Foundation, the maximum weekly benefit in Alabama is $275, but it’s $450 in California and $713 in New Jersey.

So let’s say a worker was making $1,100 per week in New York; she’d be eligible for the maximum state unemployment benefit of $504 per week. Under the new expansion, she gets an additional $600 of federal pandemic unemployment compensation, for a total of $1,104, essentially replacing her original paycheck.

States have the option of providing the entire amount in one payment, or sending the extra portion separately. But it must all be done on the same weekly basis."

Quoted from vicjw66:

The average is much less than $450/week. I believe that is the max. From what I’ve just read it is not up to $600 extra but is $600 extra.[quoted image]

You can average it out if you like, but it is about about 450 per week. Where I live (Texas) it is 521. These are "max numbers per week, " btw.

Note it is "Eligible workers" for the 600

Last year, I got a raise after 7 years from $15 an hour to $16 an hour. And my Christmas bonus was my boss forgetting to leave me my regular paycheck.

Best job I've ever had and been there longer than any others.

Anyone have an explanation for where this $25 million of coronavirus relief money goes?

Hopefully relief checks and tax returns helps everyone that qualifies or getting a return. Additionally, small businesses qualify for the CARES act recently passed.

Where I work as a contractor our hours have basically been cub in half - one week on, one week off. Our company may use the money from the CARES act to pay our salaries.

"How much will I receive?
It depends on your state.
