    Quoted from gandamack:

Three day pass for $150. Is that all? Friggin' boat show was only 20 bucks to get in the door. I was gonna go, but that price is dumb. It will cost more to repair your broken-into car window after parking in downtown Tacoma for an hour.

Pretty sure you don't get to drive the boats!

Yeah and the boat show has high dollar commercial companies which pay tens of thousands of dollars for their spaces to subsidize the costs to sell boats. The NWPAS show is run by volunteers, and everyone is donating their machines for the weekend. Also profits go to charity at the end.

You lost me at boat show... that's nothing like a pinball convention where you get to play 450 games all weekend, there are speakers, tournaments, vendors, homebrew games, new and rare games, and just stuff you don't see anywhere else. Most collectors bring a game and get in free, the show is highly incentivized for collectors and players to get in free by volunteering time and games to make it a big community run event and ticket sales to the general population fund the event. Those that just want to pay and be part of the public usually buy their weekend pass early when it's a cheaper rate.

FYI, the price is reflective of the cost it takes to put on the show, it's non-profit and we all do the work for free.

Absolutely wild crowd for a Friday morning

    #162 1 year ago

This looks like the best PNW show yet! Sorry I cant attend this year, but well done to all the organizers and volunteers !

    #163 1 year ago

Definitely our largest number of games and a surprisingly large turnout for Friday, usually Friday is when we have time to work through repairs and get everything running well, but we hit the ground running! You can really tell how much the hobby has expanded over the past couple years and also how ready people were for an event like this after not doing many events for the past 2 years.

And it's really great how many rare, 2.0/revisited games, and brand new games ended up making it, along with so many classic WPC, 80s and EM games. Such a good mix of games!

I hope everyone is having a blast at the show this weekend, I know I sure am! We could really use at least a dozen more people for teardown on Sunday, even if you can only help pack up from 3-5pm to get the first set of trucks loaded and on their way that would be a huge help. It makes it so much easier if we have a full community of people helping the first couple hours, so stick around or stop if you can after the show ends. Thanks!

This was the backbox of my Whirlwind as prepared before the show. The game lasted the entire show with ZERO maintenance. I did not open up this machine once for the entire duration of the show.

This is the backbox of my Indiana Jones after the show closed. This game lasted the show but a few loose screws required some maintenance but the boards passed for the entire duration. No problems. No resets. Happy players!

    For those interested in statistics.

I tried very hard to get my games played numbers before closing but it's impossible to get people off machines. Ultimately the power was cut and I missed three final counts. I was most excited to get the Safe Cracker count but that's just an impossibility. That game was played a lot. These are the numbers that I do have - in order of games placed on the show floor.

    Twilight Zone: Friday=212, Saturday=244, Sunday=104, Total=560.
    Lord of the Rings: Friday=135, Saturday=192, Sunday=83, Total=410.
    Whirlwind: Friday=195, Saturday=229, Sunday=?, Total=?.
    The Addams Family: Friday=169, Saturday=216, Sunday=?, Total=?.
    Black Knight 2000: Friday=163, Saturday=215, Sunday=93, Total=471.
    Indiana Jones: Friday=130, Saturday=209, Sunday=85, Total=424.
    Bram Stoker's Dracula: Friday=138, Saturday=195, Sunday=100, Total=433.
    Safe Cracker: Friday=172, Saturday=197, Sunday=?, Total=?.

I don't have accurate counts of tokens dispensed. I estimate I had about 100 tokens in both tubes and I'm left with around 30 tokens. This is about what I expected - a minimum of 60 and a maximum of 80 based on 2017 and 2018 numbers.

Comparison to 2019 (the last show).

    Twilight Zone: 2019=515, 2022=560.
Lord of the Rings: 2019=437, 2022=410.
    Black Knight 2000: 2019=543, 2022=471.
    Indiana Jones: 2019=494, 2022=424.
    Bram Stoker's Dracula: 2019=621, 2022=433.

When the games missing the final counts are set up and I can get the numbers from them I'll update this. I know numbers can be boring for most people but I find them fascinating to track both usage and popularity although this is hardly a scientific method to doing that.

Our first tournament at Northwest Pinball & Arcade Show was our Classic Pingolf event sponsored by Olaf's (which incidentally is my neighborhood bar and pinball spot).

161 players participated in the 10 holes challenge and tried to get into the top 28 finals. The cut off was at 39 strokes which did not leave much room for errors. (https://matchplay.events/live/nwpaspingolf)

The finalists faced off in a 5 strikes group knockout fair strike format, which went on for 8 rounds until we had our winner. Germain finished it off against Jeff and Craig with a strong game of Quicksilver, Dave Stewart took the 4ht place plaques. All top 28 finalists won money. A total of $5,600 cash payout for this event!

    https://matchplay.events/live/zzz76433/standings

The results are already published in IFPA with the full standings:

Looks like NWPinballshow beat me to forwarding my post into this thread for each tournament

I think i can win on the wrap up post!

Wrapping up the Northwest Pinball & Arcade Show tournaments by saying a big THANK YOU!

The tournament would not happen without the support from many MANY people, or without players choosing to come to the show and come participate!

We had 196 unique players in the OPEN Matchplay tournament this year, 163 in CLASSIC Pingolf, 69 in the Women's Championship and 60 in the Rookie event. For the first year post COVID, a 3 years cap, people came in force, from the area and from multiple states and provinces!

Due to generosity of our sponsor and growth in attendance our cash prizes paid over $20,000, as well as Trophies and plaques for all top 4 finishers. The winner of the OPEN Matchplay won $2,000-

We welcome any feedback and comments to make these tournaments better every year ([email protected]).

Of course, this could not have happened without all our INCREDIBLE volunteers, sponsors and partners. I am always worried to call out people by name as there has been SO MANY people helping out (you know who you are!).
All the people volunteering to help the tournaments, over 20 people from Thursday morning to Sunday evening, helping setting up, tearing down, dialing up, fixing, cleaning, registering, etc...

The people joining the TD team, Jasmijn, Al Gird and Lonnie were critical in keeping the tournaments going. Special thanks to Travis, Alex and Tis working extra hard on setting up and fixing the games.

Massive kudos to GeekGamer.TV, with our first experience trying to stream qualifying and finals for several divisions. All the set up, support and preparation cannot be underestimated.

We rely on generous local collector to loan us game for our events, this could not happen without them either, thank you!

BIGGEST THANKS to the Northwest Pinball & Arcade Show which none of this would be possible without their great support of the events.

And also our sponsors, which help making this event better and provide for better payout for all finalist. Shorty's for sponsoring the Open Matchplay as well as Waterland Arcade sponsoring the B-Division, 8-Bit Arcade and The Triple Knock sponsoring the Women's Championships, Olaf's the Classic Pingolf and Another Castle the Rookie event.

let's pack away the show until next year, if you want some more pinball competition look into the Northwest Pinball Championships 2022 (https://www.nwpinballchamps.com/) in September.

The Marco crew are aces, they bring a ton of games, fun and energy to the show every year. I missed having Marc (RIP) and Antoinette's colorful hair, but it was great to see Paul again and Imoto and the rest of the crew are awesome.

The message on her top was absolutely hilarious but likely NSFW depending on your tolerance to choice of words.

Also thanks to everyone who helped with set up and tear down. Many hands make light and fast work.
