Bump. I promise you all. The show will be everything you love about pin a go go and more. Keep the faith.

    #9 6 years ago
    Quoted from Sparky:

It's more than just "wanting to change the name." It's my understanding that the show organizers wanted to keep the name, but it wasn't worth the legal fight or broken relationships as a result.
Honestly, it could be called, "Flippy-Doo-Doo Pinball Show," and it really wouldn't matter. The current organizers have saved this show, and people will attend Lodi because it's more about the people. I remember the lean years: no tournament, no second building, no food vendor, no pin-techs, games leaving the floor on Sunday by noon, half the machines not showing up until Friday night or Saturday morning, and half of those games getting rolled out the back door after being purchased immediately.
As a 15-year attendee, going back to 1998, I always hated the name Pin-a-Go-Go. I started telling people I was going to a pinball show instead of saying "Pin-a-Go-Go" because of the quizzical looks and flippant remarks after telling them.
I'm looking forward to the better venue!

This. Thank you Sparky. No one else could have said it better.

    #15 6 years ago
    Quoted from PismoArcade:

Like everybody else, I was taken aback when I saw the banner that said this was the last PAGG in Dixon. However, the more people "in the know" that I talked to along with seeing the positive changes coming next year (you had me at "beer" and super close hotels) the more relieved I was.
I'm not a big fan of change, but I'm really looking forward to next year in Lodi.

Brother Pismo, it wont be a show unless you are there too. see you in Lodi.

    #16 6 years ago

It is also important to note that the Golden State pinball festival will continue to be non profit and all proceeds will continue to benefit local kids charities.

    #19 6 years ago
    Quoted from Cheddar:

Wow what a show! We just got done cleaning the facility.

Thank you Cheddar for your tireless efforts to help put on the best pinball show ever.

    #24 6 years ago
    Quoted from pinballnut:

Cheddar, thanks for staying 'till the bitter end while Greg & Steve took the fans & truck back to West Sac. We got my games put away, I came home then fell asleep in a chair. I hope your games are put away by now...thanks to everyone and a big thumbs up on Sparky's post.
Our friendly community deserves a venue with more elbow room, cooler inside temps and more rv spaces! This show belongs to the people who bring the games, help out and show up to party, not a board or a "member of the old guard."
It's always been about the people, not the space. And a rose is the same by any name...

    Testify brother.

    #27 6 years ago
    Quoted from gaspumprob:

I bet Gary Stern will show up next year when he sees our new location and our vendor list!

    And beer.

    #29 6 years ago
    Quoted from Cheddar:

So many people deserve thanks. It takes 6 board members, a dozen super volunteers, 6 truck drivers, 80+ game owners, over a dozen vendors and another 300 volunteers to put this show on every year.

This. It is absolutely amazing to see the dedication that the wonderful people of our show do to make the shows happen and work so smoothly. They truly deserve Our gratitude and respect.

    #33 6 years ago
    Quoted from QuietEarp:

Was there a lack of beer in Dixon? I was not aware.

Technically no alcohol is not allowed at pin a go go. Only in the rv area. In years past the fair grounds have been pretty strict on it.
This year seemed a little more relaxed.
At Lodi you can have a beer vendor.

    #34 6 years ago
    Quoted from Out-West:

Might also add the RV park filled early this year and was the first time I have seen campers against the fence on the main road. Time for more RV room and pinball room. Can't wait to see new location.

Exactly. One of the reasons for the move.
The show has grown and needs more room for games and campers.

    #52 6 years ago

360 days until The Golden State Pinball Festival!

I googled it so it's accurate.

    #54 6 years ago

Friday and Sunday are usually less crowded and it's easier to get on the newer games. Saturday is always pretty busy until the evening.
However, with the new, bigger location we should have more games than ever as we often ran out of room at the old location.
In past years as with this year around 270 games were available on free play with paid admission. Hope to see you at the 2018 Golden State Pinball Festival.

    Quoted from pinpoor:

Sparky has it right. We have been at PAGG for 20 years, (missed the first one I believe) at times it was very lean. A huge tick up since Brad,Steve,Greg took over. Thumbs up to Eric,Seth,Chris.
As to Sparky...did anyone get a picture of Susi's cake this year? She is considering not doing that anymore since people are afraid to cut into it, so a lot of it goes wasted. Either way, Susi cookies next year for sure....

My boys begged to eat it. And did.

And as an added bonus, the birth place of A&W?
Yup, Lodi ca. There is still a real A&W there serving up teen burgers and frosty cold mugs of Rootbeer. Two great American icons to visit in may. Pinball and A&W.

The covered area is going to be where the swap meet will be. It has power to it so outdoor night pinball can happen. The camp sites will hold nearly 100 campers. The main building is more than double the size of both the Dixon buildings put together. The smaller building that has games in it will be for seminars. We had games there today because it was a get together for all the volunteers that helped out at pin a go go.
The camp site even has rest rooms and showers that will remain open 24 hours a day during the show.
Enjoy the pics and see you all in may.

    #176 6 years ago

The main hall/halls have the capacity to hold more than 400 games! Are you ready? It's going to be epic! See you all in may 2018

    #180 6 years ago
    Quoted from Azmodeus:

I hope you all are going to make it to banning too, before this.
All this and Christmas is coming...

I'm going to try to make banning this year.

    #185 6 years ago

Bumping this to page one. Where it belongs.

    #186 6 years ago

The pics do not do the venue justice. You will all be amazed when you see how much bigger the new venue is. It is a fair grounds so it has the same charm as the Dixon site. Another cool feature is at the main building there is a full kitchen that has a walk up order window from the exterior of the building next to the tables and chairs outside and it has one at the interior of the building so the food vendor will be able to service customers in or out.

There are plenty of rest rooms, the covered area is going the make the swap meet extra nice. It has power to it so vendors can plug in a game for a potential customer. There is just so much good stuff to be excited about with this wonderful new location. Even at the dinner table yesterday my family was still talking about it. Everyone that attends the 2018 Golden State Pinball Festival will simply be amazed.

Stay tuned pinheads. There is much more good stuff coming soon.

On Tuesday evening, August 22, 2017 at the Dixon, CA City Council Meeting, the Northern California Pinball Association (NCPA) presented a check in the amount of $20,000.00 to the Dixon Teen Center. NCPA is moving their show to the Grape Festival grounds in Lodi, CA to make more room for more pinball machines, participants, and more fun. Over the last six years, the NCPA has donated over $140,000.00 to the Teen Center which represents 20% of their annual operating budget. NCPA has been very fortunate to work with many great people in the city of Dixon and the wonderful volunteers from the Teen Center. We wish them good luck as they move ahead with a new facility to benefit the local teens

    January 16, 2018

The Northern California Pinball Association (NCPA) is very pleased to present the Golden State Pinball Festival in Lodi, California on May 18 – 20, 2018.

The NCPA is a 100% volunteer driven organization, and a California and Federally registered 501(c)(3) Non-Profit, with 100% of our show proceeds benefiting local youth charities. The donated proceeds from our previous shows totals over $100,000, and benefited the Dixon Teen Center and the Boys and Girls Club.

For 2018, we have partnered with the World of Wonders Science Museum in Lodi, a hands-on Science Museum that teaches real-world application of the Sciences, and promotes learning for both youths and adults in STEM related fields.

One of our best ways of generating show revenue is through a huge Raffle and Silent Auction. We rely on generous donations from Pinball related companies, as well as local area businesses that would like to do something good for their community. We respectfully ask for a donation of an item (or two) to this years show - it need not be pinball related – Gift Cards, Gift Baskets, Tickets to local shows, Books, Toys, Art, etc. have all been donated in previous years. All donated items will be displayed with a placard acknowledging the generosity of the donor.

Building upon six years of producing the Pin-a-Go-Go Pinball Show in Dixon, the Golden State Pinball Festival promises to be great fun for all.

Please feel free to contact us with any questions, or to arrange a donation. Show information can be found at www.goldenstatepinball.org, by email at [email protected], or by phone at (209) 339-1962. Ready to donate an item? Please ship to the address below – but be sure to drop us a line so we know to whom the credit goes.

    Attn: NCPA
    2370 Maggio Circle, Ste. 7
    Lodi, CA 95240

    Thank you for your consideration,

    Chris Bannister, NCPA Raffle/Auction Coordinator

Certainly possible. Mostly depends on if Spooky has them coming off the line or not.
If it's at all possible, I will definitely do my best to make it happen.
I can also confirm though, that Multimorphic's P³, Lexy Lightspeed-Escape from Earth will be there as well! =)

    Yikes.....thanks for the heads up!
You're right; Hampton Inn is ridiculous. I just booked a room from them though and justified the price in my mind because 1) I only travel to two pinball shows a year and 2) The proximity to GSPF.
Even with my Honor members discount, final cost for two days was $523. For a Hampton. In Lodi. Oof.
Here's hoping next year they offer a special GSPF discount.

I'm just glad you will be there Man.

Hey pinheads, just a reminder about the new and greatly improved swap meet area at golden state pinball festival.

That's right, the swap meet area is covered,
Like a really big rv parking area. So your wares will stay dry and in the shade.
Another added bonus is there is power there. 110 outlets everywhere so if you have a project game you want to plug in you can.

So if you have parts to sell, or trade, or you are looking for a part, the swap meet on Saturday will be a must.

    See you there.

    #368 6 years ago

    FLASH!!!!
Lodi beer company is now an official sponsor of the golden state pinball festival.

Just wanted to give a shout out to YouTube channel 8-bit-pit!! An interesting channel with arcade and pinball restorations. He will be at the festival with games and gave it a nice advert on his last broadcast. Demonetized as a result of new youtube policies, so I know he would appreciate some subscribers and channel watching.

I apologize if this is bad form. I do not know this person, just thought it was cool that he advocated going to the show.

    Quoted from practicalsteve:

As someone with a little “behind the scenes” knowledge let me tell you that when someone says coming soon it’s not because they are waiting until the last minute, or figuring it out, it’s because they are rigorously testing a system and getting out all the bugs and making things go as smoothly and easily as possible. The amount of effort and work is tremendous. They want this first show at the new location to be perfect and are working in overdrive to make that happen.

Yup, what steve said. The organizers and the volunteers are working round the clock to insure you all have the best show ever.

Friday at Pinball University! Free with admission! Kill Bill Pinball!
    Come see the live demo!
Kill Bill is a custom pinball machine running on the P-ROC Pinball Control System. The game is based on the legendary Quentin Tarantino movie. Kill Bill was developed on a Bally World Cup Soccer, but nearly a dozen playfield changes needed to be made. Visuals are running on two screens: a 27” HD-screen as well as a classic pinball dot-matrix screen. Learn how the film Kill Bill inspired game rules, display animations, music, software and artwork to turn this game into a roaring rampage of revenge! What does it take to convert a friendly game of soccer into a machine to kill for?
Starting in 2011, with almost no experience in pinball programming, Dennis Vanderpass set out to make a serious dent in pinball forever! Fast forward to 2018 and three machines have been totally re-programmed for a full custom experience extravaganza. From Demolition Man on Steroids (new software), The Matrix (re-theme) and his latest project Kill Bill (complete re-theme, playfield and hardware changes) it’s been quite a ride! What’s common in all of his projects? Know the rules, break the rules, make the rules!

Friday at Pinball University Soldering done correctly with Rob Anthony!!
Did you know leaking batteries can kill your pinball machine?
Rob Anthony of Pinball Classics will show two installs of his anyPin™ NVRAM Battery Eliminators. One will be done with professional equipment, "the right way", and one will be done with just a soldering iron. This session will show the proper way to do NVRAM installs, and a "quick and dirty" way that will get the job done without destroying things. Having done professional board work for 30 years, Rob can share his expertise to get you on your way to learning how to expertly solder!
Rob Anthony started working at a local arcade at age 13 and immediately took to the service aspect of pinball machines. After running an amusement route and taking technical training from Williams, Bally, NSM, Atari, and Rowe he developed extensive board repair experience and can now troubleshoot and repair most any issue. He travels all over the US repairing games and will be offering on-site board and game repair at the show. Long live the memory of Rob's boy, Taro.

Using real life examples, David Volansky will talk through how schematics are used to pinpoint interesting and hard to find problems in EM games. He will also use schematics to explain the logical operation of some EM machine components such as score motors and relay lock-in switches.
While this is not a beginner session, all are welcome to attend and everyone will take away some new knowledge. For those that have little or no experience, you will see the promise of this valuable skill. Others will take away some tips for using schematics for EM troubleshooting and have a more full understanding of how the games work.

I just got home. Games are packed but n the game room. Probably will sit there till the weekend. I had a great time as always.
So good to see old friends and new.

So many great games as well.

    See you all next year.

    #1191 5 years ago

Big, big thank you to all the organizers and volunteers who make the show work.

Lots of water and rest today fellows.
    The pinlagg is brutal.

    #1219 5 years ago
    Quoted from genex:

Great show and love the new venue. The RV/camping was spot on and I think we wanna try and do a "Dory Hill" type thing as part of this next year. My two favorite games I played/learned/discovered for this year are Oh Boy ($1 games!) and Counterforce b/c I think I figured out some of the rules and it's pretty sweet!
The worst? hand dryers are weak sauce! Maybe the venue can improve those? I washed and just air-dried outside which was still 3-minutes faster than those dryers (which are obviously NOT Fast Dry!):

Last night I was talking with board members and this was discussed. They are working on a solution for next year's show.

    #1263 5 years ago

How is everyone dealing with the pinlagg?
    I'm still pretty whipped.
And back to the grind in the morning.

    #1270 5 years ago
    Quoted from PismoArcade:

A big "nope"....The bottles of water were a generous 16 oz for a buck. Perhaps you were "distracted".

Friday they did have little water bottles.
Next year that should be fixed.

I always bring an ice chest with plenty of water.
If anyone is ever needing hydration I'm happy to share from my supply.

    #1274 5 years ago
    Quoted from PismoArcade:

    Didn't know about that...My apologies.

    No worries brother.
It was a long crazy weekend.
And we all had an amazing time.

    #1284 5 years ago
    Quoted from Epistaxis:

That's my Johnny Mnemonic. It wasn't a kit, I just grab some Led strips off of Amazon and wired them up to a GI light. I think I used a purple down in the trough and then a blue one up above the glove. Yeah that game really pops with the lighting the way it is. Thanks for the compliment I appreciateit. Any questions about it just message me.

I played it also. It's absolutely beautiful. Thank you for bringing it.

    #1328 5 years ago

I have a camera with many pics. I will get to them soon and post them here.

    #1374 5 years ago

finally getting around to dropping the pics my 10 year old son took.
