Quoted from MarkInc:

Yes, Frank. That's the plan. As rough as it is - it's a good reference point before the art's done.
I'll be in the FAST booth.
"Everyone loves a box of lights!"

LOL. I'll have a pretty box of covered in art. Let's see if we can get some lights in it too!

Hire a driver - work in the trailer. Put those 30 hours to good use!

I have a silly question, where's the space to mount front bezel speakers? Or are you only doing lower cabinet speakers? Love that you're bringing it to expo.

I'm putting speakers up there. No back glass art. I want the title silhouette cut in metal. and some animated figures in the orange 'T' section.backbox.jpgbackbox.jpg

Interesting. That would be next level of animated backglasses - animated backboxes!
Looking forward to playing your creation at EXPO.

Agreed. the home brew game area keeps getting better and better every year.

I'm looking forward to seeing it in person @ expo. awesome progress so far!

#259 8 years ago

Wow! Trade for my AFM?

#260 8 years ago

Sweet, Thanks for the update

#261 8 years ago

Keeps getting better!!! Wish I was going to Expo to see it in person...

I know this is a taboo question for a lot of people, but any idea how much you've spent so far? Or is this one of those projects where you don't keep track of costs on purpose?!

This would be a perfect candidate for a "kit"-type of offering... Sorta like what's being mentioned in the WOOLY thread.

#262 8 years ago

This really really makes me wish I could go to expo.

Rough guess...

cab 350 (based on TZ)
trim 400 (trim kit - legs, rails, door, hinges, etc.)
pc 100 (refurb)
display 50 (used Dell)
ps 150 (70/24, 12/5)
wood 200 (playfield, misc)
alum 50 (guides)
wire 200 (several colours, 18, 20)
fast 1000 (3208X2, 1616, Nano, LEDs, fuse, servo)
parts 1500 (flippers, trough, inserts, posts, etc.)
art ??
Time 20000 (~4 hrs/day X 8 months X 30 Days X $20)

Don't ask me to add that up!

About $4000 not counting your time.

Shit in that case ill trade you my Dr Who instead

I doubt he would trade for your Dr Who and AFM

When you spend this much time on a creative project it's worth way more than the sum of its parts.

You missed a couple zeros on the end there Mike!

You are doing a great pinball creation. Watching with much excitement!

#270 8 years ago

looking great. can't wait to see it all put together.

Quoted from MarkInc:

fast 1000 (3208X2, 1616, Nano, LEDs, fuse, servo)

What does this all include? Is this all the electronics and programing?

#272 8 years ago
Quoted from Methos:

Yes, the PC runs mission pinball framework software (free) which talks to the controller board (Nano) which communicates with the driver/switch boards (3208s, 1616, and servo boards) Those boards connect to the coils, motors, switches and LEDs.)
Those other components I listed under 'parts' - (flippers, VUK, Scoop, magnet, targets, opto switches, diverters, buttons, etc.)
The game rules are on top of the framework. My friend Gemini fleshed out a rough set of game ideas I had into a huge document with tons of modes and cool ideas. I'm in the process of coding them using MPF and Python while trying to finish the physical construction. This is a bit much for a one man show.
Maybe I should have built a cloning machine first.

This is all amazing. Was thinking of trying to start a game myself. What was your background or how much design/pinball "know-how" did you have before you started?

Um, let's see, I played pinball before this.

Background: some electronics, lots of game programming, very basic tools skills.

#278 8 years ago

Looking great.
Really dig the upper right loop back-around to the top right flipper.

Arrived.
Man, it's windy here!

#283 8 years ago

what the hell. I had to go to beat traffic. I would have loved to have played this before the lines start.

At expo all weekend. Drop by, and say hi.

Loved getting to check this out, want to see more of it.

#286 8 years ago

One of the main reasons I'm depressed about missing expo. I really wanted to check this out, it looks amazing. I showed the project to my wife (who's a HUGE Nightmare fan) and she was excited to say the least. Can't wait to see more on this project!

My feelings exactly (well, except sub "fiancé" in for "wife").

#288 8 years ago

Amazing, wish Texas was closer to the windy city

#289 8 years ago

Got to play it. Amazing!

#290 8 years ago

Great to meet you and talk about your build process, Mark! The game was awesome. Looking forward to future progress in this thread!

#291 8 years ago

I got to play it too. Great flow (other than the left orbit needs to be tweaked so it doesn't drain from the shooter lane, but he knows it). Really dug the ramps, the ball lock, and the 3-bank drop targets (very AMH-ish, with the added magnet to pull it into the hole. Can't wait to see how this progresses with rules and artwork.

#292 8 years ago

Great to meet you Mark. Was really impressed with your enthusiasm about the project. By the time I caught up with you, I'm sure you'd spoken to well over 100 people. But, you'd think I was the first based on how positive you were and patient with my questions. Thanks for making the effort to not only get the machine to the show, but also to spend so many hours in the vendor hall sharing your experience. Looking forward to your continued progress.

#293 8 years ago

great feed back from many. What a great start!

#294 8 years ago

This morning at Expo,Ben Heck came up to the machine and immediately wanted to touch everything. I thought he was some blind guy. Long talk between these outsider designers and both guys are obviously class acts.

#295 8 years ago

Looking forward to seeing the artwork that you make for the table. Good work, I would love to have a Nightmare Before Christmas pin, if only Stern or JJP would get their act together. Unless you were thinking of mass production

#296 8 years ago
Quoted from stooped:

Hmm, the sunglasses as the Spooky talk make sense now.

#297 8 years ago

played this today. Love the shot layout. Can't wait to see more.

#298 8 years ago

Had a great time talking to you Mark and love what you've done so far, I loved playing it and it's got great flow so far. Looking forward to the game as progress continues. This was such a bonus for me flying out from the west coast. Thanks again.

I really enjoyed playing this at Expo! Thanks again for bringing it. It's my dream theme and can't wait to see more!

#300 8 years ago

Agreed!
Mark's a trooper. He's still going strong in the vendor hall at 3:22AM Chicago time!
I really liked shooting it for the first time with you there Mark.
I can tell you have the passion to see it all the way through and I'm glad Fast has your back to help you with any future hurdles.
It will be a spectacular addition to the pin-verse when it's all finished!
Congrats on all the hard work up till now!
