Quoted from Redketchup:

What the plan with the ramps? What kind of finishing you will used? Raw steel, paint, powder coat, chrome...
I'm really impressed with your work, i would like to have all the skill necessary to do something like that.

For now I think I am going to paint the outside of the ramps to look like stone.

I don't have many skills to start - just a stubbornness to keep going.
But I sure am learning about many things as I go.

The sticky is stuck.
Off to clear coat you go.

Feeling a little nervous with my playfield being away at summer clear coat camp.

Oh well.

Onward to coding:

Nice work, were you able to incorporate "Zero" in there somehow?

WIP - cabinet art - Halloween and Christmas sides.

And... the playfield was cleared tonight! I'll post pics when I get it back home.

This is so cool. I hope this is picked up by someone and made for the rest of us. And MarkInc should get mad money...the amount of work in this is unbelievable. Such a cool game and theme.

looking great Mark

#812 4 years ago

Mark that side art is fantastic. True to the theme but not too crowded.

#813 4 years ago

Mark,
The side art is great. It will be exciting to see all these elements come together. Great job!

Update on the playfield: Not quite done yet - needs more coats!

The first few layers were put on last night and somewhat 'absorbed' into the vinyl. Looks like it will need some blocking to remove any highs and lows and then a few more coats followed with a polish.

I'm going batty. So much to do before Expo!

This is the coolest machine...very jealous there is only one. Wish I could play it when done.

#820 4 years ago

Wow! I think I really like the somewhat muted colors on the PF. I bet once you get to t assembled with lighting its going to be amazing. Such a cool moment, you get to see it come to life!!!

This is amazing!

Now your talkin. How long can you wait till you repopulate? That's gotta cure.

#823 4 years ago

I'm gonna give it a week to cure. Then I'll start on the bottom reassembly. The next week top side. So, probably 3 weeks before a ball rolls on it.

#824 4 years ago

Wow. Great work! I have a playfield in my head for some time now. Hope to get started soon, after my house and the shed are finished You did one of my features with that hole behind the flipper. Does it work out?

#825 4 years ago

Congrats!!! Looks phenomenal!

Looking forward to seeing it physically complete...

#826 4 years ago

Looks really good. I can't believe I haven't seen this thread before. Good work.

#827 4 years ago

Well I wasn't going to plan on attending Expo this year, but now it looks like I have to. Great job!

Also if Spooky Pinball isn't watching this thread they should be!

- But this game has ramps. That's gonna increase the cost substantially!

This is a JJP quality game in both layout and features. No way Spooky could handle such a machine. No offense.

Stern would just make it a super LE and then strip it down for premium and pro.

What exactly could Spooky not handle? It's never going to happen, hate to burst anyone's bubble but this will stay a very cool one off, but I don't know what mystical pinball assembly you think only JJP can do.

#832 4 years ago

Let's be nice, people.

It's also a widebody - so, I can see it fitting with JJP.

I am just not impressed with anything spooky has done. They all look like 3d printed home builds of lower quality. I LOVE TNA though, but they basically just bought that design from Scott.

I hope they stick around. I would buy TNA if I had the money. I just dont think this machine SHOULD be built by any one but JJP.

If you vectorize it, the edges should come out cleaner for a stencil.

Yes, thanks.
I'm going to be doing that in Inkscape. I've done the Oogie/bats and the title letters already and they came out great.

Vector Magic can automate a large part of the process.

I used filter/cutout in PS to reduce the images down to a few colours and then some manual colour fills and tweaking.
Saved as PNG and then imported into Inkscape and trace bitmap function. Easy Peasy.

Vector Magic is not free like Inkscape.

I feel the not free software thing. I was a illustrator user for years and it's been a painful transition to Inkscape driven by Adobe fee structure and monthly bills forever... have you done all the art in Inkscape? I am slowly adapting and still feel like it's not a drop in replacement for Illustrator, but it's at least not expensive (I donated hoping to help keep them going). If you managed all the art here I suppose I can probably adapt!

How will you cut your stencils?

I'm having them cut at the same place that printed my playfield. Signature Graphics.

We did the playfield in an old version of Photoshop (CS3?)
I only just started using inkscape.

Really happy how this one turned out:

Looks like your able to hide the bolt heads in the black areas, nice. I hate when those things mess up nice cab side art.

Ha! Yes. It was a challenge with the title/bolts flipped on the other side. Thanks, I'm glad someone noticed.

As soon as I saw your pictures it was THE first thing I noticed. You had that in mind when you laid out the art.

Thanks! You guys are awesome.

Yes, there are many things I can't do or haven't tried yet.
I'm checking them off one by one as I stumble through.
I'm more eager to show the positive results though!
