Quoted from 3pinballs:I think you let the cat out of the bag there Lloyd
No, wishful thinking. Knowing Josh ( Rosh ) is a huge Sherlock Holmes fan, which I think would translate into a really great game.
LTG : )
Quoted from Viggin900:Also I haven't seen a game with pop up targets in the playfield in a long time
Hobbit.
LTG : )
Quoted from Viggin900:I hear its great.
It really came into it's own in the last year or so.
LTG : )
Quoted from DanDanDAN:We have a leak!
A leak of what ? We'll never know. Could be real. Could be employees betting a buck ahead on how long it takes to get to Pinside. Closest guess wins the pot.
LTG : )
Quoted from cooked71:Is this a cryptic clue LTG?
No. Not at all.
Just commenting on the direction American Pinball is taking my dear Watson.
LTG : )
Disclaimer : I just did it again.
Quoted from NoQuarters:What and when are the rumors for game #4 ?
Please allow me.
Sherlock Holmes for the win.
LTG : )
Quoted from mkk629:If Sherlock Holmes, please be Rathbone/Bruce!
Sherlock VS Moriarty. At the start you get to be the good guy or the bad guy.
LTG : )
Quoted from Rdoyle1978:This is a humungous opportunity for homebrew designers to get a game made AND be mentored by some legends of pinball. And AP to sell them!
There was talk or posts back when they moved to the new building that they could have three lines. One for next game. One for reruns. And one for people wanting to make a small run of their game. Which I thought would be a golden opportunity for AP to see something with potential and make a deal to produce them.
LTG : )
Quoted from Charlemagne1987:I’d be stoked for a Sherlock Holmes from AP. I hope you’re right.
Me too. Especially if you could be Sherlock or Moriarty.
And rosh could wear his deerstalker hat at shows.
LTG : )
Quoted from TreyBo69:I noticed the other day that AP updated the trademark filing for this recently. There’s hope!
It's a no brainer. While Josh ( rosh ) is a huge fan of Sherlock. With Dennis Nordman in the mix, you just know Dennis has been dying to walk around a pinball show with a deerstalker hat on and a meerschaum pipe in his hand.
Just a question of which AP guy wears the Moriarty outfit.
LTG : )
Quoted from Charlemagne1987:I think it will be a surprise only if it isn't Sherlock Holmes.
I wonder with Nordman in the mix. If all previous teases might be gone and new things flowing ?
LTG : )
Quoted from Paul_from_Gilroy:It could be modernized for the 21st century (video display Vs. DMD,
Quoted from Paul_from_Gilroy:and also played the prototype of Pinball Inc’s “remake”.
You didn't notice the larger LCD ?
LTG : )
Dennis updated his picture on Facebook. He's sitting in a Corsair air plane. The same one his father flew.
Could be Father's Day stuff. Could be the next American Pinball machine will be Air Planes ?
LTG : )
Quoted from NoQuarters:Whatever it is hope it's revealed soon.
With the changes made and plans for the future. It may take a bit to get rolling. But once they do, Dennis and company will be on a roll.
LTG : )
Quoted from Scoot:Has anyone heard if Joe Balcer is continuing to do the next pins?
It's been posted here on Pinside that Joe is no longer with them.
Dennis Nordman is, and besides the game he is working on. He is training others ( 4 I think ? ) to design games in the future with his guidence.
Joe is with Homepin now.
LTG : )
Quoted from bobukcat:Will be interesting to see if they still do the game Joe designed that was supposed to be #4
Rumor was he was pulled off of #4. So not likely it will be built or finished.
LTG : )
Quoted from dozer1:Maybe they are going full virtual pin.
Too funny. And it's not even April 1st. ( they aren't )
LTG : )
Quoted from Coz:There is a trade show that Aimtron will be at this week in Las Vegas called G2E - it’s possible that the game will be shown there???
I've gotten an invite to it. Unfortunately can't go.
It would be exciting to see a new pin there.
LTG : )
Quoted from manadams:They just announced on INDISC stream that AP hired Barry Engler and Barry Oursler.
Barry Engler left jjp ? He left AP for jjp.
LTG : )
Quoted from tk375:Barry Engler as production manager... Lol..
As another pinsider said, "There goes American Pinball down the toilet..."
No. He's got the education, training, and more experience. And more he can do there.
This will be a positive move for American Pinball.
LTG : )
Quoted from Scoot:I'm still hoping it is Sherlock Homes.
Without Josh's love of the theme. I don't think it would be the same now.
LTG : )
Quoted from Viggin900:They are usually the first to get inventory from AP.
You kidding ?
Wander over to the jjp Toy Story thread.
LTG : )
Quoted from solid_snake:Is the next game from Nordman or Balcer?
I believe it was reported on Pinside that before his departure Balcer was pulled off of his game.
So could be Nordman, or Balcer's game with Nordman's touch ?
What ever it is should be exciting.
LTG : )
Quoted from denoument:Why does American Pinball register a trademark for a name that isn't the final name of the pinball machine?
Tax write off. Have fun with people trying to figure the next game. Maybe plans changed and another title was selected.
Or just for the heck of it.
LTG : )
Quoted from brenna98:This is my last day as American Pinball’s tech service manager.
You had a good run.
Best wishes on what is next.
LTG : )
Quoted from Bagittagit603:Big loss for API.
Barry Engler is back with AP. He's a top notch tech too.
Not to take away from all brenna98 all did for AP.
LTG : )
Quoted from bobukcat:He is and is but according to the Pinball Magazine article when Barry rejoined it was in a completely different role of Sr. Production Manager which is not the same thing at all as you, better than most, already know.
Thank you for clarifying his position.
LTG : )
Quoted from punkin:It's even more awesome, cause they have Lloyd.
I help what little I can on the AP threads. I don't work for AP.
LTG : )
Quoted from Scoot:I have been extremely fortunate to have owned all of the API pins so far in my collection.
Beautiful line up !
LTG : )
Quoted from rosh:bummed I won’t get to do rules and code on it.
I wish you had your fingers in it too.
Lots of exciting things happening at AP.
LTG : )
Quoted from Charlemagne1987:David Fix told me he was working on that when I met him at FreePlay Florida back in November. They’re definitely aware of the problem.
I hope he's successful. That would be good for players and potential new customers, if they can see it, play it. Maybe even get a peak inside.
Pinball shows don't cover enough of the potential market out there.
LTG : )
Quoted from Ballderdash:Anyone remember?
Yes. And just sh*t when I had it and discovered a laser disc player in it.
Oh great, $1200 a year to keep it going.
And typical Sega they were going to make other games for it. Only took three or four years. Then later a two player version.
LTG : (
Quoted from Capn12:Crazy how many good AP folks, are not AP folks anymore.
I believe Barry Engler is there. He is a top of the line tech. ( they don't grow on trees ).
LTG : )
Quoted from spoke:Barry left AP, I believe it was back in January.
Sorry to hear.
I hope he found something better.
So no tech support guys left at AP ?
LTG : (
Quoted from BarryJ:looking for a developer job
I hope you find something great. Best wishes !
LTG : )
Quoted from Ferret:And the company announced a couple new hires a few weeks ago, but I don't remember a flurry of "hiring boom at American!!!" messages when that happened.
Announced where ?
Maybe you missed your target audience.
LTG : )
Quoted from Jason_Jehosaphat:Spooky is in the same boat.
Not really.
Growing, keep out growing previous buildings. Have a loyal almost cult following. And unlike any others. They have Charlie ( Chuck Emery ) who had a dream. Lived on macaroni and cheese for a year. Had family support. And worked his butt off to build a great company.
Not many people have that drive and ambition to make something work.
And loyal too. TPF is where sales really took off. And as long as there is a Spooky Pinball, they will be at TPF every year.
LTG : )
Quoted from mkk629:I wouldn’t think that a Rathbone/Bruce license would cost much.
Game wouldn't be the same without rosh 's enthusiasm in the game.
LTG : )
Quoted from Markharris2000:I keep thinking that there must be more to the current AP story. There must be some parent company constraints that the AP team is wrestling with, and can't speak about publically.
Does seem like something behind the scenes. So many highs and lows. Rolling along, disappear. Move to new building to add lines, then disappear. Hire Dennis Norman to design a game and train four others to design games so they could make 3 or 4 pins a year. And now silence.
What ever they have going on. I wish they figure it out and get rolling again. Maybe strive for one great game a year ?
LTG : )
Quoted from Yesh23:They have about 4 employees that come in daily…not going to make very many games that way.
Depends on what they do there. Sit with nothing to do ? Or work hard ?
LTG : )
Quoted from Charlemagne1987:I would think Aimtron would be demanding some major restructuring over there.
I wonder if Aimtron's meddling is the issue ?
LTG : )
Quoted from BMore-Pinball:Agree, while Fix has a passion and knowledge of pinball - he doesn't seem to have much manufacturing or business experience which is the hard part.
IMHO it was a very poor appointment.
There is always the possibility management is holding him back.
They've done it before.
LTG : )
Quoted from Charlemagne1987:they gotta get their shit together
That seems to be a problem. Every time they get rolling, things take an abrupt turn.
They have great people and ideas, and have made some interesting games. I hope they get rolling in a positive direction and keep going.
LTG : )
Quoted from PinStalker:Someone was the initial driving force - what happened to them?
Maybe the parent company keeps sticking their nose in it ?
LTG : )
Quoted from bobukcat:I asked about 10 people I know, all non-pinball people, ages ranging from mid 30s to 70s, about it and not one of them had ever heard of it either.
With the majority of new games going into the home market. It's hard for non pinball people to get exposed to new games they might see on location. Or at a friends house. Not every friend gets every new title.
No easy answer to get the word out to the masses.
LTG : )
Quoted from Sorokyl:Aren't they privately owned with a billionaire backer?
Did you confuse them with another company ?
LTG : )
Quoted from rosh:Sherlock had a lot of potential as an unlicensed theme that is very recognizable. We had made some progress on it before the plug was pulled
Another sad chapter in the book of what could have been, in pinball.
LTG : )
Quoted from rosh:I am not done with pinball, I guess I never will be since I've been flipping for over 50 years, but more on point, not done as a developer, and pretty soon you will know what I have been working on.
Glad to hear that.
Though I do hope your love of Sherlock Holmes sees the light of day at some point.
LTG : )
Quoted from blueberryjohnson:I'm interviews, Fix says the reason things have changed is because the culture was all wrong at AP when he arrived. Per Fix, he had to start more or less from scratch to create a new company and teach staff how to have a good workplace culture.
I wish him good luck. He's got his work cut out.
LTG : )
Quoted from Roostking:Support is a problem if you are out of business.
Is Barry Engler still there ?
LTG : )
Quoted from bobukcat:Unless he came back for a third time, I don't think so.
He's a good tech. I hope he lands somewhere. Maybe Stern ?
LTG : )
Quoted from Sorokyl:Anyone want their own pinball company? Comes with 1 David Fix, 32 3d printers, and 367 sets of tank treads.
https://www.knapparcade.org/post/aunt-ron-is-looking-for-a-buyer-for-american-pinball
That explains a lot. David called me a couple weeks ago, was going to call me back between 1pm and 2pm the next day.
Never heard back.
Which isn't unusual, they did that the last three times they contacted me.
I hope it works out and they start rolling again. New buyer or not.
LTG : )
Quoted from Colehvac1:All American games just plummeted
Tech support and game specific parts could be hurting.
Common items used in other manufacturers games like ball trough, sling shots, pop bumpers, are available from parts sellers.
LTG : )
Quoted from Colehvac1:You think? Williams closed shop and everything worked out fine.
Yes. When Williams closed you couldn't call them for tech support. Or get game specific parts. They blew out a big 30 page sale. And then sold the rest to Gene. And things there were so disorganized, they didn't know what they had or not. And Williams had a 13% over run of game specific parts, when they were gone they were gone. Even when Williams was still open.
And Williams was a larger concern with many more games out there. More reason to make parts, game specific or not.
American Pinball doesn't have near as many games out there. So game specific parts might be hard to get. And tech support, who you gonna call ? With less games out there, fewer people have worked on them, so even help here on Pinside might be a problem.
LTG : )
Anybody think to call AP and ask about the rumor ?
LTG : )
Disclaimer : If I owned an AP game, I wouldn't worry.
Quoted from Rizmo:Still have no idea why they thought it would be the best idea to release unlicensed before a licensed
Because all of Pinside is crying for unlicensed titles ?
LTG : )
It's been a crazy week. All kinds of rumors. And lots of speculation.
As rosh pointed out what they've accomplished in three years. I hope they get rolling and dispel all the rumors.
And I hope when they unveil their next game at TPF. That it is a major success for American Pinball.
I look forward to the pictures and show reports. Get some excitement back into the mix.
LTG : )
Quoted from BallyKISS1978:Can’t believe they were considering Sherlock Holmes.
rosh is the worlds biggest Sherlock Holmes fan. Doing something you love, he would have made it great.
I thought playing it two way. As Sherlock Holmes, or as Moriarty.
What an epic pinball battle.
Not sure how serious AP was, or how far it got. I wish it would have been done.
LTG : )
Quoted from Whistles:It's not like he was brought in to a smooth sailing ship and then threw caution to the wind and ended up on the rocks, the boat was already on the rocks or in the shoals.
Not going to be easy and will take some time.
Sounds like he is working hard to get everybody rowing in the same direction.
I wish American Pinball a great future.
LTG : )
Quoted from TreyBo69:A big announcement? It can be anything! Get hyped!
I hope it's good news and exciting !
LTG : )
Quoted from PinStalker:Incredible news....... hmmmmm...... what could it be?
1. Date for next game reveal announcement or early teaser shown (Food Truck)
2. New management shakeup
3. Company has been sold
4. "We're not dead"
5. All games going on sale - return to pre-covid pricing across the board
6. "Did we say there was an announcement?.... nah"
7. Buy GTF now, get a 3D translite
8. Rereleasing all games in standard cab...... goodbye AP cab
9. Food Truck bumped..... get ready for what's coming (teaser White Water 2)
10. Hot Wheels ramp kit released
11. Magic Girl "Complete" announcedIt's more fun to guess than it is to find out!!!
My guess is part of #1 and #4.
LTG : )
Quoted from jrcmlc:did you get a hot wheels?
I'll have all of them shortly. GTF first, followed by Houdini, then the others.
LTG : )
Quoted from jrcmlc:If you need to move anything to make room, let me know.
This might free up a couple games to trade for a Labyrinth.
LTG : )
Quoted from TreyBo69:They really needed a moderator in their twitch chat. It was bedlam in there.
That would help. It got ugly fast which is why they probably started to ignore it.
LTG : )
Quoted from PanzerKraken:The whole thing is just innocent PR, they plan to start streaming regularly, they had some company info, basically dispelling rumors and confirming a new game is coming soon.
Their first one too. They'll get better.
I remember when Jesse and I did the first "Talk Pinball" podcast. It did not go well. We learned, the next five were fun.
LTG : )
Quoted from AMartin56:but I fear he's associating with the wrong people.
I'd sleep with the devil if it enabled me to help people with their pinball machines better.
And I don't think American Pinball is the wrong people. I can't fault them for trying to make things better, for past customers and future customers.
I'm glad this time it came together and I can be part of AP going forward.
LTG : )
Quoted from Charlemagne1987:And doesn’t Nordman have a history of jumping ship before a company goes under?
No. He does move around a lot. Multi Morphic, Chicago Gaming ( he'll finish the game he was doing for them ) before American Pinball.
LTG : )
Quoted from stubborngamer:Though I guess there's a prop bet on if we see another game period from the company.
We will. Mine came today. Two small things. I won't set it up until after the American Pinball announcement. And I couldn't get it off the truck awhile ago. There were crates in front of it we couldn't move, stuck in place with a forklift, on pallets too small to get a pallet jack in.
So it's coming back tomorrow along with a Houdini.
LTG : )
Quoted from vdojaq:So tomorrow you will have the new Backyard BBQ Game? Does it come with A.P. Brand BBQ Sauce?
No idea what the game is. I never asked. And box it comes in will be unmarked or code name of the game on the outside. I was just told they'd send me one for tech support, to be opened after their announcement. Which I'll keep it sealed until then.
Quoted from stubborngamer:ooo, I'm liking the ease at which I am able to pull some juicy info today.
Not too juicy. Here or Facebook it's been mentioned today or this weekend.
Quoted from luvthatapex2:Nice! Hope you get a legends of Valhalla too!
After the new game, and Houdini. Coming soon will be Oktoberfest and Legends of Valhalla. I'll have the full American Pinball line up. And the Full Chicago Gaming line up.
LTG : )
Mine came yesterday. But couldn't get it out of the truck because of three huge immovable pallets in front of it.
Supposed to come back today.
If all goes well it will be on the floor and ready to play tomorrow. ( Saturday )
LTG : )
Quoted from danarchy:Nirml is Mukesh's son and currently "in charge" of API
Nirml ( on the left in the pictue ) is cool, loves pinball. Very enthusiastic about pinball. Check out his outfit at Expo when Oktoberfest was released.
