TOTAN
CV
WOZ
BHZA (don't know what it looks like yet)
PREDATOR (early signals are looking great)

Totan is just freaking amazing....

#2 11 years ago

Take your pick from 1981 Bally.

#3 11 years ago

Wow nothing from the eighties? This is pinball blasphemy

Quoted from iceman44:

BHZA (don't know what it looks like yet)

#4 11 years ago

TOTAN
Centaur
Fathom
Iron Maiden (Stern)
CFTBL

Quoted from iceman44:

BHZA (don't know what it looks like yet)

Don't know that makes sense..., how can you judge somethings looks you haven't seen?

#5 11 years ago

Not counting Jpops
Fathom
Paragon
Whirlwind
Scared Stiff
Big Bang Bar

#6 11 years ago

Haha...I know, because Jpop is doing it and it should blow everyone away!

Yeah, the 80's, why can't we have that type of quality again!

#7 11 years ago

Ooh, one more post to 5,000. Woohoo!

#8 11 years ago

Anything by Dave "Mad Dog" Christensen. Mata Hari, Old Chicago, Nitro Ground Shaker...

#9 11 years ago

Forgot about Whirlwind and Fathom....just don't think of those but played em both and they are beauties.....

#10 11 years ago

I personally like Theatre of Magic pretty well.

#11 11 years ago

I like RFM as well although it hardly gets mentioned either.

#12 11 years ago

XENON , but there are several from the early to mid 80's I like

#13 11 years ago

DMD snobs.

How can you make a top five list of art and not include any of the Bally masterpieces from the late 70s to 80s.

#14 11 years ago

X-men

#15 11 years ago

Haunted House

#16 11 years ago

Hands down Phantom of the Opera has the most beautiful and detailed artwork (IMO), a Faris masterpiece!! Have a close look. Centaur is a very close second.

POTO
Centaur
Fathom
Paragon
Earthshaker backglass

#17 11 years ago

Bally lost world
Silverball mania
Mata hari
Paragon
Gulfstream (lol)

#18 11 years ago

playfield looks. Nothing beats TOTAN.

Cabinet. TOM

Backglass Miss World.

Roms LOTR (hey, brains can be sexy too)

i'm going to make a game with all 4 things in it, and it will be the best looking game ever.

#19 11 years ago

There's TOTAN and then there's everything else. Playfield, cabinet, and backglass are all gorgeous. It truly is in a class of it's own.

#20 11 years ago

Honorable Mention to Williams' Spanish Eyes.

That's what I'm talking about Jar!......I was playing it in Austin a week ago and spent a ton of time just looking at the detail and creativity......it really is amazing.....that a big reason I popped on BHZA...no pun intended

I want Jpop to say there is BHZA, a piece of art......then Totan a distant second and then everything else!

#22 11 years ago

Space Invaders

#23 11 years ago

Wait let me get this straight...you want Detailed & Gorgeous; D&G? TOTAN is great, and I'm a DMD snob....but it's Centaur & nothing. NOTHING IS EVEN CLOSE!

#24 11 years ago

Barracora
Hot Line
Paragon
Fathom
Asteroid Annie and the Aliens

#25 11 years ago
Quoted from TheLaw:

NOTHING IS EVEN CLOSE!

Fair enough looking over the posts...Paragon can be a close call; Fucking Beast's lair.
BUT...I think Paragon gets trumped up by backglass art. It is great, but Centaur is all time all around perfect.

#26 11 years ago

Centaur
Fathom
Tales of the Arabian nights
Sorcerer
Twilight Zone

#27 11 years ago

Centaur is great too.....black, white and red mix but Totan for all out colorful beauty!

#28 11 years ago

PAUL FARIS!

#29 11 years ago

embryon

#30 11 years ago

Centaur
TOTAN
Barracorda (backglasd)
Xenon
Paragon
POTO
Black knight (backglass)

But i also like alot of art from on EM games
One usually finds something hidden in the detail

#31 11 years ago

Phantom of the Opera has some very beautiful artwork on it. That's why I bought the pin . . . for its looks . . . not for how much fun it is to play. Which it ain't! Ha.

#32 11 years ago

phantom is a good time. LIttle on the easy side, but it's nice to have a old school style game scoring in a bigger collection. Art and sound package POTO is awesome.

#33 11 years ago

So let me get this straight. Two of your top 5 all time best looking pins are two that don't exist yet and you've never even seen?

For me (in order):
Totan
Xmen (pro probably)
Cirqus Voltaire
Theatre of magic
Cactus canyon

Quoted from barakandl:

DMD snobs.

Lol some of us have not even so much as seen those old things

#35 11 years ago

I'm biased toward pins I own, but I own them because the artwork rocks!

1-Black Knight
2-Fathom
3-Embryon
4-Quicksilver, Barracorra (tie)

#37 11 years ago

Fathom
Baracora
Paragon
TOTAN
CV

#38 11 years ago
Quoted from markmon:

Lol some of us have not even so much as seen those old things

Respect your elders, dammit!

#39 11 years ago

totan, cv,xmen, cftbl, tom

#40 11 years ago

In no particular order:
1) TOTAN
2) CFTBL (mostly for translight)
3) MM
4) TSPP (love the cabinet)
5) TOM

Yep, I'm a DMD snob.

#41 11 years ago

TOTAN!!!
Oh yea, CFTBL for its translight!

#42 11 years ago

Sorcerer is stunningly gorgeous
BOP
BK2K (80's badassery combined with a charging knight)
Judge Dredd (I am a sucker for comic art)
and revenge from mars. The original work done for this title is great. you can tell they were giving it their all to try and save pinball

I seek out titles that have beautiful artwork to my eyes. Sorcerer is one i have not been able to find in acceptable condition.

#43 11 years ago

Wow! That one came out of left field! But approve (first arcade I worked in in the early eighties had one).

#44 11 years ago

Magic Castle
Centaur
Fathom
Star Gazer
Viking(Bally)

Lots of Zaccaria games have bright, vivid color schemes. Farfalla european backglass would rank up there, too.

#46 11 years ago

Medusa
Star Gazer
Barracora

#47 11 years ago

JD - the pf and bg is great and has so much detail. I wish the detail would have carried over to the cab which looks a little bland imho

#48 11 years ago
Quoted from markmon:

Lol some of us have not even so much as seen those old things

Your loss

#49 11 years ago

Big Bang Bar
ToTAN
Voltan Escapes the Cosmic Doom
X-Men
Centaur/Fathom

Pretty much my response; This thread was headed for irrelevance based upon the first post boldly delcaring 2 unreleased/unfinished games as having "THE BEST ART EVAR".

Then the number of lists that do not include games that should be no brainers is... kinda shameful but not shocking.

Here is my Top 5 Best art EVAR:

WPT: Bold new direction; daring. Fearless execution of a plan some might consider "ill advised".
IM: This game wins everything. Look at the translite. BOOM!
The Hobbit:Because each of these lists NEEDs to have at least two unrelased games in it; it is what all the cool kids are doing. And you want to be cool don't you?
Star Trek Into Darkness: see above
Centaur: One of the rare absolute masterpieces in terms of playfield art.

Even I had a hard time making a completly janky list.

WTF is with absolutely zero mentions of Lord of the Rings even by DMD snobs? Does everybody own the "enhanced" hair schlong version?
