Quoted from Atari_Daze:

LATE 70s, but still the 70s.
[quoted image][quoted image][quoted image]

I just had to go check the closet after seeing the pic you posted of the slot car set.
Looking online I’ve found mine was from 1977 but I think my brother and I got it in 1978-79. It has a $45 price tag on it.
I used an online inflation calculator which says that’s approx. $200 today.

Quoted from o-din:

The ones I had were called Ker Knockers. As fun for a ten year old as owning a set of nunchucks.[quoted image]

I think I was in 3rd grade when ker-bangers were banned from school.
As I remember it, kids were breaking fingers/bones in their hands.

Quoted from o-din:

I didn't see Star Wars until years later. I did see Close Encounters in the theatre.
I worked with an older guy that seemed kind of strange at the time.
I mean who be so enthused with a movie that he would go out and pay extra so he could have two personalized license plates "R2D2" and "CP3O". Both were Subarus, one was a Brat.

My buddy drove a brat. it was his dads. It was always funny trying to call shotgun first in order to not have to ride in the open back seats in the wintertime. Although it was fun riding back there especially if it was snowing (facing backwards)as long as you were dressed properly. The seats had cool hand bars with BMX style grips on both sides of both seats so you had something to hold onto if it got bumpy or when there were turns in the road.

A 16 oz. Busch pounder returnable and a little ganja helped us cope with the cold too!

Quoted from holminone:

And the Playboy magazines from the seventies. Solid.

Yes!
Almost all my friends dads had stacks of playboy in the basement.
A few had penthouse or oui which were always a bit more revealing.
I think we got catv in 1979. Our house was on a flag lot with a 400 ft long driveway.
Our neighbor got cable before us and the installers were lazy and just patched us into his box that the had already run between our houses. He was a tv junky and got every channel available so we got the same channels even though we only had a basic channel package. HBO,Cinemax ,prism, the movie channel, showtime then the playboy channel around 1981.

Quoted from o-din:

In the 70s even riding in the bed, we no worry about accidents.[quoted image]

My dad had a 77 F250. I remember my mom calling the state police to see if it was ok for 3 of us to ride in the back on the Pennsylvania turnpike. The officer said that’s not a problem at all but thanks for checking !

Quoted from NY2Colorado:

Anyone else have a hippity hop?

Yes !!!
they were awesome to use on a concrete basement or garage floor-but it hurt like hell if you miss judged and lost your balance only to slam onto the floor.

Sit and spin was also cool as were big wheels and green machines. We had a couple big hills in our neighbor hood and you could really get going fast. Sometimes we would get a group of 5 or 6 of us together and have mad max/Chinese downhill anything goes races.
Good times and amazingly no one ever got hurt more than a little road rash!!!

Quoted from luch:

in Canada it was street hockey , " car ! "

We would play roller hockey in some of our friends basements that had lots of room and weren’t filled with junk.

Quoted from Honch:

Love the Green machine!! Owning a Green machine was my goal in life in 1978, but by the fall of 1979 my attention turned to the schwinn scrambler. Two kids in the neighborhood had one that were black and yellow. It was the first time I ever saw mag wheels on a bmx bike. After that I was hooked and I ended up in the 80s getting heavily into riding dirt track and quarter pipe ramps.[quoted image]

Quoted from zombywoof:

The Ross Snapper from '78 I posted back on page 3 had Tuff Wheel 1s. They were super strong, but man were they heavy! Ok for bicycle motocross, but for freestyle or the half-pipe, they just didn't cut it. It's pretty cool that they are still in business, though.

I was shocked to read they still made these until 2017.
Does anyone remember what they cost?
I vaguely remember them costing about $120 in 1979 when I got a pair for my bike.
I definitely recall that It took quite a bit of lawn mowing to pay for them. My buddies and I would ride our bikes to Odyssey Land which was the arcade a couple miles from our neighborhood.
